  • FormsAuthentication AuthCookie data type

    - by FreshCode
Does the original data type of the username string in a call to FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(...) make any difference with regards to security or code maintainability? As I understand it, the cookie is encrypted and used to identify a user on each request. I'm curious whether it should affect the design of the primary key on my Users table in my database, eg. Guid vs int or a unique username string.

    - by wacdany
We are developing a site that will require the usage of a captcha service. Has anyone successfully use Google Recaptcha (https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/index.html) for a website for users from Mainland China? Did you have major problems with load-time? Did you experience any reliability problems? Any problems with the great firewall of china? Any experience that you can share is appreciated.

  • Is there a standard place to store Spring library jar files?

    - by richj
I've downloaded Spring 3.0.2 with dependencies and found that it contains 405 jar files. I usually keep third party libraries in a "lib" subdirectory, but there are so many Spring jars that it seems sensible to keep them separately so that they don't swamp the other libraries and to simplify version upgrades. I suspect that I want to keep the full set of libraries in Subversion, but only deploy the subset that is actually used. Do Spring users have a standard way to deal with this problem?

  • Subversion causes network problems

    - by richard
I often use tortoisesvn to checkout or update a working copy on a development server. Whenever I do this, it seems to slow down the network and other users complain that browsing websites and accessing files on the dev server is slow. Is this a common bug in Subversion or has anyone else has come across similar problems?

  • Rules regarding iPhone apps

    - by iphone newbie
iphone dev has this rule for iphone developers Be certain that the items you offer for purchase do not contain, or relate to, pornography, hate speech, defamation, or gambling (simulated gambling is acceptable). But how come there are apps in the app store such as iBetMate, which, in fact, allows users to gamble? Is there a clause or something that I missed in Apple's rules?

  • What license to use for translations of open source software

    - by vividos
I'm writing an open source software that is licensed under the GPL. Now I'm offering that other users can translate the software, starting from an english translation I made by myself. What license or range of license may be best for translation of text strings, dialogs, etc.? As GPL is a software license, I thought about a Creative Commons license. The goal is so that all translations remain free and may be updated by other translators.

  • Speech recognition webservice that scores the accuracy of one audio clips vs. another?

    - by wgpubs
Does such a thing exist? Building a Rails based web application where users can upload an audio file of them speaking that then needs to be compared to another audio file for the purposes of determining how similar to voices are. Ideally I'd like to simply get a response that gives me a score of how similar they are in terms of percentage (e.g. 75% similar etc...). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

  • Python: How should I make instance variables available?

    - by swisstony
Suppose I have: class myclass: def __init__(self): self.foo = "bar" where the value of foo needs to be available to users of myclass. Is it OK to just read the value of foo directly from an instance of myclass? Should I add a get_foo method to myclass or perhaps add a foo property? What's the best practice here?
