  • Getting started with PHP on Windows

    - by jamesaharvey
I'm getting started with a side project that will be developed using PHP and I'm looking for guidance on getting my Windows machine up and running and ready for development (as quickly as possible). Being that PHP development is more geared towards Linux users/developers (which I am not), I'm trying to figure out how to get all the pieces in place to get a 'WAMP' stack operational locally on my Windows machine. Any good tutorials/quick start guides out there and if not, does someone have all the steps that they could provide me with here?

  • Outlook Object Library for Visual Studio

    - by Ukodiak
Our office is running two different versions of MS Office (2007 and 2010). Is there a way for me to integrate Outlook into a C# project and have it work for both versions of Outlook? I have added a reference to Microsoft Outlook 14.0 Object Library, but for users of Outlook 2007, do they require version 12.0 or will the newer version work?

  • Is jQuery modular? How to trim it down?

    - by usr
Uncompressed, jQuery is 160KB in size. I did not see a way to exclude seldomly used parts of it like with jQuery UI. How can I reduce the (compressed and minified) file size of jQuery? I am quite concerned because dial-up lines and slow machines/browsers are very common among users of my site.

    - by Petr
    Hi, Being quite new with PHP, I cannot find any solution why this does not work. The query is OK and the resource is returned. But I dunno why fetch_assoc does not print values. Thanks $query=sprintf("SELECT ID,NAME FROM USERS WHERE PASS='%s' AND NAME='%s'",mysql_real_escape_string($p),mysql_real_escape_string($n)); $result=mysql_query($query); if ($result) { while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { echo $row['ID']; echo $row['NAME']; } } }

  • Resetting passwords without emailing the user

    - by Cory
We need to provide a way to reset password for users who are using our website. The typical way is to send email to the user and ask to click on the link to reset. The issue is that we don't want to run a mail server just for the purpose of resetting password. Is there other clever way of reseting password without having to mail the user?

  • Making many network shares appear as one

    - by jimbojw
Givens: disk is cheap, and there's plenty lying around on various computers around the corporate intranet redundant contiguous large storage volumes are expensive Problem: It would be fantastic to have a single entry point (drive letter, network path) that presents all this space as one contiguous filesystem, effectively abstracting the disk and network architecture from the paths presented to users. Does anyone know how to implement such a solution? I'm open to Windows and non-windows solutions, free and proprietary.

How should i go about doing this?

  • Maintaining many socket connections with a single thread

    - by John
Many tutorials on socket communication I see seem to use 1 thread per socket. But on a server used for online gaming, you might have 10k concurrent users - 10k threads isn't probably a wonderful idea. I came across a tool (SmartFox) which claims to use a single thread for monitoring all socket connections, potentially thousands of them. This app happens to be in Java, but I figure C++ or C# could do the same... how would you achieve this?
