  • Looking for downloadable demo of a .Net service accessed through a pure JavaScript client, without r

    - by blueberryfields
I am told that the configuration below is possible, but have had significant difficulty in finding instructions on how to set it up. While I'm trying to muddle my way through this on my own, maybe stack-overflow knows of better sources for documentation: I am looking for a walkthrough, including a downloadable, working example, for setting up the following configuration: Server-side .net application (For .net 2.0 or higher), installed/deployed as a windows' service (that is, not served through IIS), and accessed by a client tool that is completely implemented in JavaScript.

  • Do you have a data roadmap?

    - by BuckWoody
I often visit companies where they asked me “What is SQL Server’s Roadmap?” What they mean is that they want to know where Microsoft is going with our database products. I explain that we’re expanding not only the capacities in SQL Server but the capabilities – we’re trying to make an “information platform”, rather than just a data store. But it’s interesting when I ask the same question back. “What is your data roadmap?” Most folks are surprised by the question, thinking only about storage and archival. To them, data is data. Ah, not so. Your data is one of the most valuable, if not the most valuable asset in your organization. And you should be thinking about how you’ll acquire it, how it will be distributed, how you’ll archive it (which includes more than just backing it up) and most importantly, how you’ll leverage it. Because it’s only when data becomes information that it is truly useful. to be sure, the folks on the web that collect lots of data have a strategy for it – do you? • Your experience with .Net based CMS

    - by Vaibhav
Which is a good .Net based CMS out there (for creating a corporate website). I have used Kentico CMS for some time, and am moderately happy with it. However, is there anything better out there. I would like the ability to develop my own custom asp.net templates for various page types and install them.

  • Does the .NET Framework 4.0 intaller installs .NET 3.5 as well?

    - by John Doe
.NET 4.0 is meant to run side-by-side with 3.5 and won't run 3.5 apps, which is making me worried about having to instruct my users to download .NET 3.5 instead of just "the latest version". I've read in a blog that the 4.0 installer will install 3.5 as well if it's not already installed but I can't test it right now, did anyone try this or have an answer from a trusted source?

  • .NET coupled with MATLAB or R?

    - by Peter
I'm writing a program in .NET that will need to utilize the statistical and data analysis functions of R or MATLAB. I have used R but am now contemplating moving to MATLAB since it has a .Net compiler while R can only interface via COM objects. Can anyone recommend going either way? I know MATLAB is infinitely more expensive than R (since R is free) but I'm thinking that may translate to an easier development cycle?

  • J2EE v6 and .NET 4.0 comparison

    - by sme89288
We are running our applications on .NET 3.5 and are planning on either updating to .NET 4.0 or switching entirely to the Java platform, J2EE v6, as we've heard from some clients that "it's better." Can anyone either explain some of the large differences between the two platforms and maybe what kind of costs would be associated with switching to Java rather than just updating, or point me to some articles or papers that make such comparisons? Thanks!
