  • INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE on Windows 8.1 Bootcamp

    I'm on my MacBook Pro and I want to use my Bootcamp partition to work on one screen. I've installed Parallels 9 and after I installed it and configured it to look at my Windows partition through the Bootcamp Wizard it gives me an "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" error when I try and boot. I figured it must be an issue with parallels so I've rebooted and now I'm getting it when I try to boot into Windows 8.1. Any ideas? Thanks

  • 256 Colors in Terminal over SSH on OSX 10.6

    I am using either Windows 7 or Ubuntu 12.04 and trying to SSH into OSX 10.6. Using Vim color schemes, I can emulate the colors on xterm-256 color on Linux and gVim on Windows. However, I would like the colors to follow through when I am SSHing onto the OSX. The default terminal, however, does not support xterm-256color. Is there a way to have OSX use iterm2 by default, to accept all SSH requests instead of terminal.app? If not, is there a way to install xterm-256color into the default terminal? Upgrading to Lion is out of the question at this point. Thank you!

I sent it to my phone via Bluetooth, but when I try to open the wgt file on my phone it says it can't open it, because it doesn't know the filetype.     To gain access to WIFI at university I have to login with my user/pass credentials. The certificate of their website (the local home page that asks for the credentials) is not recognized as a trusted certificate, so we install it separately on our computers. The problem is that I don't take my laptop with me often to university, so I usually want to connect using my HTC Magic, but I have no clue on how to install the certificate separately on Android, it is always rejected.   • Home networking problem between power line communication and Ethernet

    My network runs through the electrical wiring of the house and is organised as such: Groundfloor: an ADSL+network switch, using DHCP (address : 172.19.3.1) (Mac) PCs connected via an electrical adapter (model: D-Link DHP-200) (1 per PC) First Floor: 1 switch (8 ports) connected via an electrical adapter (model: D-Link DHP-200) (address unknown) 2 Mac PCs connected (via RJ45 network wires) to that router using DHCP The Problem On the first floor, file tranfers between PCs are fast and perfect. But if I try to transfer files from or to a computer on the ground floor, the speed is slow and eventually the transfer dies out. The Question So I suspect the 1st floor switch is creating some kind of barrier (firewall?) preventing external PCs from accessing the PCs it is connected to? Am I right and if so, how could I disable that barrier?

    Hi, I'm, trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 Server on an HP Proliant DL160 G6. The HP hardware is certified by Ubuntu for the 9.04 version, which I can't install due to company policy. The problem is that Ubuntu would not recognize the RAID 1+0 disk configured by the BIOS. The raid creates one ~470GB disk from two 500GB physical disks. Any ideas? Adam

  • Goldtouch USB Keyboard reverses keystrokes in fast typing -- expected?

    I am running into an odd keyboard problem: some key combinations end up reversed (e.g. "pl" ends up being emitted as "lp") when I'm typing quickly. The problematic ones are the key combos I hit with two adjacent fingers on my right hand-- in other words, the combos I can hit the fastest. No idea how fast is "fastest", but I guess around 50-150 msecs gap between them. I'm trying to track down whether this represents a failed keyboard, an inherent limitation of my Goldtouch USB keyboards, or a software problem on my Windows 7 Lenovo T500. I use a PS/2 version of the same Goldtouch keyboard at home with no problems. I've tried another USB keyboard with my laptop and can't repro the problem. I've also used this keyboard on other laptops without a problem. According to this SU thread, USB keyboards have higher latency than PS/2 keyboards-- up to 30 msecs. I find it hard to imagine that I can type key combos faster than 50 msecs, probably more like 100-150. Anyone encountered this problem with this or another keyboard? If so, how did you fix it? Any idea if there's a "keyboard log" or some way to diagnose the problem inside Windows?

  • MacBook Pro - 7200 vs 5400 rpm drives - Heat and Noise

    I am looking at a new 15" MacBook Pro for development purposes. I am planning to run a Virtual Machine for about 50% of my work (Windows 7 x64, IIS, SQL Server, and VS 2010). The upgrade from a 5400 rpm drive to a 7200 rpm is only $45. From what I understand the faster rotational speed of the 7200 rpm drive will help virtual machine performance. However, I am concerned that additional heat and fan noise might be an issue. I will be running mostly on A/C power so decreased battery life is not a major concern for me. Since I would be running with a Core i7 processor which gives off a fair amount of heat already I was wondering if it might be best to stay at 5400 rpm for the hard drive. What do you all think?   • Connecting Wii to router to Proxy Server via VPN to BBC iPlayer

    I live in the USA and want to be able to watch UK TV streamed over the web. The relevant services are geographically crippled. I can do this by using a VPN proxy server in the UK, connecting to the VPN service using a straight Windows VPN connection. However, this means I have to watch everything on my PC. The BBC iPlayer works on the Wii in the UK. So, I'd like to connect my Wii to a wireless router (LinkSys WRT54G2) and have that be automatically connected via VPN to my proxy service in the UK. If I can do this then I'd be able to stream UK TV direct to my TV via the Wii. I thought I could have one router act as my VPN connection, connected to a 2nd router that connects to my Cable internet access. But this bit isn't working, any thoughts?

  • xfx 680i motherboard failure?

    At some point last night we must have had a blip in our power, as the stove clock was blinking like it would had their been... a blip in the power. When I came into my office this morning, my desktop computer was powered down and would not turn on. Cracking the case, I can see a small blue blinking light on the front right corner of the motherboard. Unplugging the power from the PSU causes the blinking to stop. Plugging in the power causes the blinking to resume. Pressing the power button does nothing. Does anyone know what this blinking blue light means? I'm mostly curious now if it's the motherboard that has gone bad, or the power supply. I don't have any other desktop parts to use to troubleshoot these components. Any ideas? My motherboard is an XFX NFORCE 680I SLI INTEL SOCKET 775 DDR2 ( Model #: MB-N680-ISH9 )

  • How to start networking on a wired interface before logon in Ubuntu Desktop Edition

    Problem Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition (and possibly previous versions as well, I haven't tested them) has no network connections after boot until at least 1 user logs in. This means any services that require networking (e.g. openssh-server) are not available until someone logs in locally either via gdm, kdm, or a TTY. Background Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition uses the NetworkManager service to take commands from the nm-applet in Gnome (or it's equivalent in KDE). As I understand it, while NetworkManager is running at boot, it is not issued any commands to connect until you login for the first time because nm-applet isn't running until you login and your Gnome session starts (or similar for KDE). I'm not sure what prompts NetworkManager to connect to the network when you login via a TTY. There are several relevant variables involved in starting up the network connections including: Wired vs Wireless (and the resulting drivers, SSID, passwords, and priorities) Static vs DHCP Multiple interfaces Constraints Support Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala (bonus points for additional supported versions) Support wired eth0 interface Receive an IP address via DHCP Receive DNS information via DHCP (obviously the DHCP server must provide this information) Enable networking at the proper time (e.g. some time after file systems are loaded but before network services like ssh start) Switching distros or versions (e.g. to Server Edition) is not an acceptable solution Switching to a Static IP configuration is not an acceptable solution Question How to start networking on a wired interface before logon in Ubuntu Desktop Edition? What I have tried Per this guide, adding the following entry into /etc/network/interfaces so that NetworkManager won't manage the eth0 interface: auth eth0 iface inet dhcp After reboot eth0 is down. Issuing ifconfig eth0 up brings the interface up but it receives no IP address. Issuing dhclient eth0 instead Does bring up the interface and it Does receive an IP address. Completely removing the NetworkManager package in addition to the settings above. I'm a bit confused with the whole UpStart/SysVinit mangling that's going in Ubuntu currently (I'm more familiar with the CentOS world). However, directly issuing sudo /etc/init.d/networking start Or sudo start networking does not bring up the eth0 interface at all, much less get an IP address.   • Can't copy file with green filename, access denied

    Using Windows Explorer under XP I see some of my files have green filenames. When I try and copy one of these files I get an error reporting Access denied. The My pictures folder also appears with green text and I have a large number of photos from family holidays I don't want to loose. I need to backup these files as I'm changing laptop soon. We use SafeBoot to encryt our hard drives but I don't think this is the problem as it allows me to copy other files to removable media with no problems. Has anybody come across this before and how can I resolve this?

    I can't get USB tethering to work. My setup: iMac with Mac OS 10.6.2 iPhone 3G, Sofware version 3.1.2 (Build 7D11) The phone shows up in iTunes and syncing works as it should. I went to System Preferences / Network and added the iPhone as a Network Service. To the right there is a status message for the selected service. With the iPhone not plugged in, the status message reads: Either the cable for iPhone is not plugged in or the device is not responding. With the iPhone plugged in, the status message reads: Either the cable for iPhone USB is not plugged in or the device is not responding. Almost identical messages, the only difference is "USB". Any clues?

    Currently I had a situation where I sent an email to [email protected], but when I receive mail from [email protected], it showed as [email protected], with extra '.com' behind the email address, this just happen within this week. Before this, I didn't change any setting, currently I am using Outlook 2010. When I checked the email in webmail, it also showed it as [email protected]. It seem that it has nothing to do with Outlook. However, I also tried on Thunderbird 16.0.1, but still the problem is the same. Has anyone experienced this before? Is the problem caused by the sender or receiver?     I have an outlook meeting series that occurs weekly. Every week, I open the current occurrence, attach the current week’s meeting materials and send an update to the invites. I have done this for the same meeting series for several years. Recently, I started to run into a problem where every time I try to update or cancel a meeting occurrence I received the error “the attachment size exceeds the allowable limit” regardless of whether or not I have an attachment. I am not even able to cancel the series in order to start fresh. I have 2 questions regarding this issue: Is there any way to send attachments on the occurrence of a meeting invite without running into this issue? Is there any way to remove this meeting series?

    Hi, I currently have a 640GB external HD that has 1 partition formatted as HSF+ Now I want to split some of the free space into a new FAT32 partition, without having to reformat the whole HD and losing all my data. I read that I'm supposed to be able to add new partitions in the Hard Disc Utility by clicking the "+" sign, without any loss of data. But in my case the "+" is not clickable and it says that this partition cannot be altered. Can anyone tell me how to proceed. Or is it impossible without reformatting the whole disc? Thanks ps: I'm running osx snow leopard 10.6.6
