  • good, simple music streaming for windows?

    I've been using itunes to stream music over lan, and quite frankly the quality is terrible. On the other hand, its ease of use - having a simple client on either end, and it just 'working' with full control on my end is nice- the quality however is terrible - I'm wondering if there's any controllable streaming remote music serve for windows that will let me pick the bitrate it sends at, or uses whatever bitrate the original file is in, and just sends it, and has itself controllable at the client end, and will work acceptably over a wlan connection

  • Does overheating cause a computer to slow down?

    It's a pet peeve of mine that people leave the tower of their desktop computers in the small enclosed cabinet part of computer desks. I've heard that heat issues can cause problems with PCs, but is this realistic? Is leaving the desktop in a cabinet area, or above-average-room-temp, a realistic potential cause of slowdowns? (I'm completely aware that there are other contributing factors to computer 'slowness', just wondering if this is a realistic problem, or mostly mental).

    I'm new to ssh and linux in general. I've got putty set up and I can connect to my server and list files and everything. I'm wondering how I can edit a file using notepad++ (or another editor). Is there a way to have it automatically download and upload through ssh? How else do you edit a file? Thanks

  • Windows 7 Dell 1545 rotate screen and change wallpaper

    I recently bought a second monitor and hooked it to my laptop. I like to put the monitor in portrait mode when coding and i can do this with igfx but i was wondering if there was a way to make a keyboard shortcut that will rotate my display 270 degrees and change my wallpaper to one that fits the 1050 X 1680 portrait resolution, and then have a key that rotates back to normal and resets my wallpaper?   • Editing the registry entry to have Citrix call the local install of an application

    We use Citrix to access an app (APP1) remotely. As it currently stands, when APP1 needs to do a merge document, it calls a session of another app (APP2) from the Citrix server. However, due to latency issues, we now want APP1 to call a local version of APP2. This is controlled in the registry entry for APP1. I'm wondering what kind of path entry would need to be made so that APP1 would call the local APP2 while following the rules of the Citrix profile.

  • Can you create ACLs with open vSwitch on XenServer 5.6FP1 without using the DVS appliance?

    I have a pool of XenServer hosts running the Free version of XenServer 5.6 FP1. I was wondering if I change the network backend to use Open vSwitch if I can specify ACLs on individual network VIFs without needing to use the DVS appliance (distributed virtual switch) which requires an Advanced License or higher. Basically I'm looking for a way to isolate VMs on my network so that if a user had root access on the command line they couldn't access other servers they should not be able to (without using a VLAN).

    We have recently found out about nginxes post_action. We were wondering it there was a way to use this directive if a proxy cache hit is made? The flow we were hoping on is as follows: 1) User request comes in 2) If cache HIT goto A / If cache MISS goto B A) 1) Serve Cached Result A) 2) post_action to another url on the backend B) 1) Server request from backend B) 2) Store result from backend Any ideas if this is possible via post_action?   • Cassandra on heterogeneous servers

    I am currently running 4 cassandra nodes with the following hardware in a Apache Cassandra cluster: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 8G RAM 750G hard disk It shows not such a good writing performance and a really bad read performance with sometimes also timeouts. I was wondering if it makes sense to add 2 nodes with a different hardware (8 CPUs and more RAM) to improve this. Or does a cassandra cluster works best with the same hardware in every node?   • Does gunzip work in memory or does it write to disk?

    We have our log files gzipped to save space. Normally we keep them compressed and just do gunzip -c file.gz | grep 'test' to find important information but we're wondering if it's quicker to keep the files uncompressed and then do the grep. cat file | grep 'test' There has been some discussions about how gzip works if it would make sense that if it reads it into memory and unzips then the first one would be faster but if it doesn't then the second one would be faster. Does anyone know how gzip uncompresses data?

Start Viewer + Connect + Enter Password (three steps) Since I've already figured out that I can automate the last step with the -password argument, I'm down to two steps: Start Viewer + Connect (two steps) How can I tell the UltraVNC viewer to automatically connect?
