  • Why is using OPENQUERY on a local server bad?

    I'm writing a script that is supposed to run around a bunch of servers and select a bunch of data out of them, including the local server. The SQL needed to SELECT the data I need is pretty complicated, so I'm writing sort of an ad-hoc view, and using an OPENQUERY statement to get the data, so ultimately I end up looping over a statement like this: exec('INSERT INTO tabl SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(@Server, @AdHocView)') However, I've heard that using OPENQUERY on the local server is frowned upon. Could someone elaborate as to why?

    Hello, I am using vim with fugitive extension http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=2975 It has :Gdiff command which brings you into vimdiff mode, but what is the right/quick way to close/quit vimdiff mode? i.e. let's say I am editing file FooBar.txt under git repository, then firing up :Gdiff, review my changes in vimdiff and want to get back and continue editing FooBar.txt or any other file :) Thanks.

    I am working on an application with a few other people and we'd like to store our MySQL database in source control. My thoughts are two have two files: one would be the create script for the tables, etc, and the other would be the inserts for our sample data. Is this a good approach? Also, what's the best way to export this information? Also, any suggestions for workflow in terms of ways to speed up the process of making changes, exporting, updating, etc.

All I need is to confirm that a given filename matches against compatible filetypes.

  • Is there a way in PHP to keep a file open and process each line and subsequent lines?

    I want to write a php script that keeps the apache_log file open and "listen" to the log and deal with each log entry as it happens. I'm thinking that I need to open a file, get the number of lines, then do this again in a loop - and when the size is different, read the new lines and process them. Am I barking up the wrong tree, or is there a silly easy solution that I have missed? Chris

    It seems that I have more trouble getting standard Unix things to run on Snow Leopard than any other platform--including Windows cygwin For the past couple of days, I've been trying to get ImageMagick to run on Snow Leopard. I need the datagrid to parse the input and place the data in the correct rows and columns of the datagrid. flow: click on a date in the tree and it makes a server request for batch information in xml form. However this is not very comfortable way for doing this. Is it possible to configure Eclipse to use gdb (I guess gdbserver) for debbuging android native applications?     I'm using mod_wsgi apache2 adapter for a django site and I like to call some bash process within a view, using the usual ... p = subprocess.Popen("/home/example.com/restart-tomcat.sh", shell=True) sts = os.waitpid(p.pid, 0)[1] ... This code works perfectly from within a usual python shell but does nothing (I can trace right now) when called within django. Am I missing some wsgi constraints?   • Whats happening to my HTML?

    I am making changes to my website, and I just noticed that things look different. In IE, the content doesnt center, theres a margin on my content, and the font looks bigger in chrome.. I ran it through Yahoo's HTML validator and the error I get is line 1 - Error: character "" not allowed in prolog. I believe that there may be some sort of whitespace being sent before the DOC TYPE, but I cant seem to fix it. The HTML looks fine in my text editor (Notepad++) so I dont know what the problem is. Im using a strict DOC Type. Everything was fine before I made any changes, but I cant pinpoint what caused the change. If it helps, I'm using a Framework (Kohana). My initial thought was that something was being sent to the browser by an echo or something, but I couldnt find any echo statements. I dont know what could be causing this...   • XML Postback issue

    I have a script that is designed to parse XML postbacks from Ultracart, right now just dumps it into a MySQL table. The script works fine if I point it to a XML file on my localhost but using 'php://input' it doesn't seem to grabbing anything.     Hi, I'm using CurvyCorners to make my corners curvy in IE, only thing is that when it reads the CSS it takes all the webkit properties and shows me an alert curvyCorners.alert("No object with ID " + arg + " exists yet.\nCall curvyCorners(settings, obj) when it is created.");.
