  I'm trying to setup apache in front of the tomcat embedded in railo. • Getting Internal Name of a Share Point List Fields

  Over the last 2 weeks i was developing a tool to migrate Lotus notes data base to Share point. The mapping between Lotus notes schema and share point list schema was done manually in an xml file for out tool. To map the columns we wanted internal names of each field. There are quite a few ways to achieve this, have explained few below. If you want internal names for one or 2 columns you can do so by navigating to the list setting and clicking on the column name. Once you are in column's details, you can check the query string of the page. The last item in the query string would be field's internal. Replace all "%5f" with '_' will give you the field internal name. In my case there were more than 80 columns. I used power shell to get the list of columns with details. Open windows Powershell and paste the following script after modifying the url and list name. All the site content will be listed at the left hand side, expand the list, right click and select generate wrapper class.

• Using json as database with EF, how can I link EF and the json file during DbContext initialization?

  For a personal testing-project I am considering to create a SPA with the following technologies: ASP.NET MVC + EF + WebAPI + AngularJS. The project will make use of small amount of data, so I was thinking I could use just a .json file as storage. But I am not sure about how to proceed with the link between EF and the json file in the initialization of the DbContext. I found a stackoverflow related question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13899342/can-we-use-json-as-a-database I know the basics of edit files and store data inside. What I tried is to get the data from the json file in the initilizer method and create the objects one by one. This is more a doubt about how this works if I save/update an object in the dbcontext, do I need to go through all the elements and add/update it manually? Is it better to rewrite the complete file? According to this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7895335/append-data-to-a-json-file-with-php it is not a good practice to use json/XML for data wich will be manipulated. Anyone has experience with anything similar? Is this a really bad idea and I should use another kind of data-storage?

• Introduction to Extended Events

  For those fighting with all the Extended Event terminology, let's step back and have a small overall Introduction to Extended Events. This post will give you a simplified end to end view through some of the elements in Extended Events. Before we start, let’s review the first Extented Events that we are going to use: -          Events: The SQL Server code is populated with event calls that, by default, are disabled. Adding events to a session enables those event calls. Once enabled, they will execute the set of functionality defined by the session. -          Target: This is an Extended Event Object that can be used to log event information. Also it is important to understand the following Extended Event concept: -          Session: Server Object created by the user that defines functionality to be executed every time a set of events happen.   It’s time to write a small “Hello World” using Extended Events. This will help understand the above terms. We will use: -          Event sqlserver. error_reported: This event gets fired every time that an error happens in the server. -          Target package0.asynchronous_file_target: This target stores the event data in disk. -          Session: We will create a session that sends all the error_reported events to the ring buffer. Before we get started, a quick note: Don’t run this script in a production environment. This Extended Objects actions get executed before events are published (stored in buffers to be transferred to the targets). Currently they are used additional data (like the TSQL Statement related to an event, the session, the user) or generate a mini dump.   -          Predicates: Predicates express are logical expressions that specify what predicates to fire (E.g. only listen to errors with a severity greater than 16). This are composed of two Extended Objects: o   Predicate comparators: Defines an operator for a pair of values. Examples: §  Severity > 16 §  error_message = ‘Hello World!!’ o   Predicate sources: These are values that can be also used by the predicates. They are generic data that isn’t usually provided in the event (similar to the actions). §  Sqlserver.username = ‘Tintin’ As logical expressions they can be combined using logical operators (and, or, not).  Note: This pair always has to be first an event field or predicate source and then a value         Let’s do another small Example. We will trigger errors but we will use the ones that have severity >= 10 and the error message != ‘filter’. • GlassFish Server 3.1.2.2 Maven Coordinates

  GlassFish Server 3.1.2.2 was released a few weeks ago. This micro release fixed a couple of important bugfixes - one in JAX-WS (JAX-WS-1059) and another one related to JK listener with Apache + mod_ajp_proxy (GLASSFISH-18446). This release is already integrated in NetBeans 7.2 and you can download separately from here. Maven coordinates for this build are now also described on the download page. The following fragment in your pom.xml will allow you to invoke embedded-glassfish:run, embedded-glassfish:deploy, and other similar commands. <dependency>    <groupId>org.glassfish.embedded</groupId>     <artifactId>maven-embedded-glassfish-plugin</artifactId>     <version>3.1.2.2</version> </dependency> GlassFish Embedded Server Guide provide more details about setup etc. Similarly full platform or Web profile implementation of GlassFish can be included as a single JAR using <dependency>    <groupId>org.glassfish.main.extras</groupId>    <artifactId>glassfish-embedded-web</artifactId>    <version>3.1.2.2</version></dependency> Of course, you need to replace "glassfish-embedded-web" with "glassfish-embedded-all" to get complete platform.  The download page provide more details different bundles and complete maven coordinates. • JPEG images not loading on PlayBook (Marmalade + iwgame)

  I'm using iwgame on a test project and I was trying to render different resolutions of JPG and PNG images. Everything works fine on the Marmalade Simulator, however once I deploy the game to our PlayBook and run it, only the PNG images are shown. I have declared the images in the MKB file and on a XML file iwgame's using to load the images. I've checked the deployments folder and all images are present in the intermediatefiles/native folder. We're currently using a BlackBerry only license, so we can only test this on the PlayBook, but we do intend to get a Community license and deploy to iOS and Android devices eventually (I'm not sure if this is a problem exclusive to the PlayBook). I really don't know if this is a Marmalade or a iwgame issue. I have a different test project without iwgame and it simply won't run with jpg images (I get the error: 'Could not find handler for extension "jpg"'). While searching for a sollution, I've seen people talking about using libjpg, but I've also found that Marmalade supposedly has integrated native jpeg support (and because of that iwgame has abandoned their jpeg loading support since v0.340), so I don't know what to think. I'm currently using the most recent versions of both Marmalade and iwgame, I believe: Marmalade 6.1.2 and iwgame 0.400. Also, please let me know if there's an easier or better way to do this, such as linking libjpg or something (I'm not exactly sure how to do this). I really would appreciate some help with this, there's a huge difference in size for the images we're planning to use, from a ~500kb jpg file to a ~3.5mb png file. Thanks, guys.

• Using Teleriks new LINQ implementation to connect to MySQL

  Last week Telerik released a new LINQ implementation that is simple to use and produces domain models very fast. Built on top of the enterprise grade OpenAccess ORM, you can connect to any database that OpenAccess can connect to such as: SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Azure, VistaDB, etc. Today I will show you how to build a domain model using MySQL as your back end. To get started, you have to download MySQL 5.x and the MySQL Workbench and also, as my colleague Alexander Filipov at Telerik reminded me, make sure you install the MySQL .NET Connector, which is available here.  I like to use Northwind, ok it gives me the warm and fuzzies, so I ran a script to produce Northwind on my MySQL server. There are many ways you can get Northwind on your MySQL database, here is a helpful blog to get your started. I also manipulated the first record to indicate that I am in MySQL and gave a look via the MySQL Workbench. Ok, time to build our model! Start up the Domain Model wizard by right clicking on the project in Visual Studio (I have a Web project) and select Add|New Item and choose Telerik OpenAccess Domain Model from the new item list. When the wizard comes up, choose MySQL as your back end and enter in the name of your saved MySQL connection. If you dont have a saved MySQL connection set up in Visual Studio, click on New Connection and enter in the proper connection information. *Note, this is where you need to have the MySQL .NET connector installed. After you set your connection to the MySQL database server, you have to choose which tables to include in your model. Just for fun, I will choose all of them. Give your model a name, like NorthwindEntities and click finish. That is it. Now lets consume the model with ASP .net. I created a simple page that also has a GridView on it. Weaver, titled “Expressing the UI for Enterprise Applications with JavaFX 2.0 FXML, Part One,” shows developers how to leverage the power of the FX Markup Language (FXML) to define the UI in enterprise applications.As Weaver explains, “JavaFX 2.0 is an API and runtime for creating Rich Internet Applications (RIAs). JavaFX was introduced in 2007, and version 2.0 was released in October 2011. • Custom 403 Error page not showing

  I want to restrict access to certain folders (includes, xml and logs for example) and so I've given them 700 permissions, and all files within them 600 permissions. Firstly, is this the right approach to restrict access? I have a .htaccess file in my root that handles rewriting and error documents. There are two pages in the root - 403.php and 404.php - for 403 and 404 errors. And I have these rules added to my .htaccess file: ErrorDocument 404 /404.php ErrorDocument 403 /403.php Now, the 404 page works just fine. The 403 page does not show when I try to access the 'includes' folder - I get the standard apache 403 error page instead, saying 'Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.' However, when I try going to the .htaccess file (in the web root) in my browser, I get my custom 403 error page. Why is this happening?

• How to prevent mod_proxy from rewriting redirects into absolute URLs?

  I have: nginx (port 80) reverse-proxying to apache2 (port 88) reverse-proxying to a web app (port 5001). However, when the web app responds with a redirect like Location: /foo, apache2 rewrites this into Location: http://host.com:88/sub/foo, even though port 88 is publicly inaccessible. I'd like it to just redirect to the relative URL Location: /sub/foo. Any ideas? I have set up SSL on the Apache Webser...I can hit it with https:// localhost When I try to access my application at ...https://localhost/app I get a directory not found error. Catch is when I go regular http... I can hit it fine... http:// localhost/app What do I have to edit for this connection to work? I have uncommented the AJP connector in server.xml I have added my virtual host to httpd.conf What am I missing? Thanks in advance. Jared

• Authenticating your windows domain users in the cloud

  Moving to the cloud can represent a big challenge for many organizations when it comes to reusing existing infrastructure. For applications that drive existing business processes in the organization, reusing IT assets like active directory represent good part of that challenge. For example, a new web mobile application that sales representatives can use for interacting with an existing CRM system in the organization. In the case of Windows Azure, the Access Control Service (ACS) already provides some integration with ADFS through WS-Federation. That means any organization can create a new trust relationship between the STS running in the ACS and the STS running in ADFS. As the following image illustrates, the ADFS running in the organization should be somehow exposed out of network boundaries to talk to the ACS. This is usually accomplish through an ADFS proxy running in a DMZ. This is the official story for authenticating existing domain users with the ACS.  Getting an ADFS up and running in the organization, which talks to a proxy and also trust the ACS could represent a painful experience. It basically requires  advance knowledge of ADSF and exhaustive testing to get everything right.  However, if you want to get an infrastructure ready for authenticating your domain users in the cloud in a matter of minutes, you will probably want to take a look at the sample I wrote for talking to an existing Active Directory using a regular WCF service through the Service Bus Relay Binding. You can use the WCF ability for self hosting the authentication service within a any program running in the domain (a Windows service typically). The service will not require opening any port as it is opening an outbound connection to the cloud through the Relay Service. In addition, the service will be protected from being invoked by any unauthorized party with the ACS, which will act as a firewall between any client and the service. In that way, we can get a very safe solution up and running almost immediately. To make the solution even more convenient, I implemented an STS in the cloud that internally invokes the service running on premises for authenticating the users. Any existing web application in the cloud can just establish a trust relationship with this STS, and authenticate the users via WS-Federation passive profile with regular http calls, which makes this very attractive for web mobile for example. The UserAuthenticator implementation is just a wrapper around the LogonUser Win Api. • Pythonic use of the isinstance function?

  Whenever I find myself wanting to use the isinstance() function I usually know that I'm doing something wrong and end up changing my ways. However, in this case I think I have a valid use for it. I will use shapes to illustrate my point although I am not actually working with shapes. I am parsing XML configuration files that look like the following: <square> <width>7</width> </square> <rectangle> <width>5</width> <height>7</height> </rectangle> <circle> <radius>4</radius> </circle> For each element I create an instance of the Shape class and build up a list of Shape objects in a class called the ShapeContainer. Different parts of the rest of my application need to refer to the ShapeContainer to get certain shapes. Depending on what the code is doing it might need just rectangles, or it might operate on all quadrangles, or it might operate on all shapes. I have created the following function in the ShapeContainer class (the actual function uses a list comprehension but I have expanded it here for readability): def locate(self, shapeClass): result = [] for shape in self.__shapes: if isinstance(shape,shapeClass): result.append(shape) return result Is this a valid use of the isinstance function? Is there another way I can do this which might be more pythonic?

• Excel crashes when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer

  I have been running into some issues when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer, generally the first document or two will open fine but after that trying to open a file will cause Excel and Internet Explorer to crash to the desktop without any notifications being given. This doesn't happen for users who are running Excel 2007, but for users with Excel 2003 it may or may not happen to them. The files in question are Excel XML files and Internet Explorer 6 and Excel 2003 are being use. At this time it would not be possible to upgrade Internet Explorer, but it would be able to upgrade to Excel to version 2007 if that would resolve the issue. Overdue Update: We recently upgraded to Firefox at the office which has rendered this error a non-issue; however, it is still unresolved from the standpoint that we haven't been able to come up with an explanation to the issue. Since IE6 is still installed on the systems, a fix to the problem (or explanation of why it's happening) would be appreciated.

• What would cause Google Music Manager to report different amounts of music between iTunes and My Music?

  If I set Google Music Manager to scan iTunes, it reports that there are 3997 songs (which is also indicated if I were to open iTunes and look at my collection). However, if set Google Music Manager to scan My Music folder, it detects 3999 songs. I even deleted all of my songs from iTunes and reimported my My Music folder. iTunes is still reporting 3997 songs. Is there an easy way to find out what is causing the difference between the two counts? I could probably add all of my songs to a playlist, export the playlist into a text or XML file using iTunes, and compare that list against everything in My Music folder to see if iTunes is missing music. However, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this before I did that...

• Debugging Node.js applications for Windows Azure

  In case you are developing a new web application with Node.js for Windows Azure, you might notice there is no easy way to debug the application unless you are developing in an integrated IDE like Cloud9. For those that develop applications locally using a text editor (or WebMatrix) and Windows Azure Powershell for Node.js, it requires some steps not documented anywhere for the moment. I spent a few hours on this the other day I practically got nowhere until I received some help from Tomek and the rest of them. The IISNode version that currently ships with the Windows Azure for Node.js SDK does not support debugging by default, so you need to install the IISNode full version available in the github repository.  Once you have installed the full version, you need to enable debugging for the web application by modifying the web.config file <iisnode debuggingEnabled="true" loggingEnabled="true" devErrorsEnabled="true" /> The xml above needs to be inserted within the existing “<system.webServer/>” section. The last step is to open a WebKit browser (e.g. Chrome) and navigate to the URL where your application is hosted but adding the segment “/debug” to  the end. The full URL to the node.js application must be used, for example, http://localhost:81/myserver.js/debug That should open a new instance of Node inspector on the browser, so you can debug the application from there. • help with Outlook Exchange server and curl

  I work on a mac in a building full of PCs, and the IT department here doesn't have IMAP access turned on on the exchange servers. So I miss a lot of meetings because I don't get reminders because I access my mail via Outlook Web access. I had written a script to scrape my Outlook Web Access calendar and turn it into iCal format, so I could get my reminders via thunderbird or iCal.app. It basically downloaded the calendar page via curl, parsed the HTML and reformatted all the appointments as ical. it wasn't elegant, but it worked. Then they changed to outlook 2007, and it doesn't work any more. I have a sketchy knowledge of curl, and almost zero knowledge of how outlook works. Can anyone point me towards a reference for getting calendar info out of an exchange server without using outlook? If I can configure curl to get the HTML I will be happy, but if there's a more elegant way, such as getting the calendar info as XML I'll be delirious.

• JEE frameworks, a road map to learn? and should I learn them?

  Background Information I have been into programming since past 1 years professionally, my day to day work includes writing BIRT reports, designing and validating forms using JEE (struts/spring, hibernate). I don't have a comp Sci 4 year degree (Electronics), so I have very Limited experience in comp Sci. Question JEE frameworks (struts1/2, spring, hibernate etc) are hot nowadays, however java world have a tendency of building A4j, B4J... mayway4J kind of stuff (and I am tired of it). AFAIK, frameworks are nothing but bunch of XML config files and hundreds of classes built to cram (by developer). And sooner then later a new framework come into picture that says I am the best among all. So My Question is - 1.What will you do to learn a framework (many frameworks) considering that it can be obsolete till you'll be master in it (Learning frameworks can take significant amount of time)? 2.Considering early into your career, will you give a damn that how well someone knows framework (knowing frame work is important but still..) and why/how should I learn a framework knowing I have to (un)learn it in order to learn other one (plenty of of 4Js....)? I am just trying to get a big picture, that, if you're in place of me, what would be your learning/cramming strategy (Road map)? I am not intended to start a holy war between A versus B, (frameworks are more or less essential).
