  • Getting 0x80070043 error when accessing Samba share from Windows 7

    I created a Samba share on my new Ubuntu 10.04 machine. When I try to access it from a Windows 7 client, I get network error 0x80070043 (The network path not found). However, I get this error when I click on the share in the Windows Explorer, so it seems that Windows does find the path. I already enabled NTLMv1, disabled 128bit security and made sure that NetBIOS is running. I briefly disabled the Windows firewall, it didn't make a difference. What could be the problem?

    I'm having a problem with pulseaudio. My machine crashed, and when I rebooted and ran pavucontrol, I got a "Connection Failed: Connection refused" dialog. I installed the preview which is available in Ubuntu 9.10 repositories using sudo apt-get install gnome-shell gnome-shell --replace However I can't figure out how to launch Ubuntu Software Center using it. It just appears to be missing. The software center appears fine in normal gnome. How do you launch the Ubuntu Software Center from Gnome Shell. For those of you who are getting confused, Gnome Shell is the next generation user interface for gnome, it is planned for inclusion as default in Gnome 3.0, there is a preview of it in the Ubuntu 9.10 repositories. I am not interested in how to launch Ubuntu Software Center from the terminal or in how to launch it from the normal gnome interface.

  • Selling Solutions, Not Products

    When I think about next-generation retailers, the names that come to mind are Apple, Whole Foods, Lulu Lemon, and IKEA.  They may not be the biggest retailers, but they are certainly growing fast. Success is never defined by just one dimension, and these retailers execute well across many dimensions, but the one that stands out for me is customer experience.  These stores feel...approachable...part of the community...local.  Customers are not intimidated to ask questions, and staff seem to go out of their way to help. What's makes these retailers stand out in the industry?  These retailers aren't selling products -- they're selling solutions.  Think about that.  You think you're going to the Apple store to buy a phone, but you're actually buying a communications solution that handles much, much more.  If you carry an iPhone, your life has changed.  The way you do things is different.  The impacts go much beyond a simple phone. Solutions start with a problem, which is why these retailers greet customers with "what brought you in today," or "can I answer any questions for you?"  Good retailers establish a relationship, even if it lasts only a few minutes. You don't walk into Whole Foods looking for cans of soup.  You are looking for meals: healthy snacks, interesting lunches, exotic dinners.  Its a learning experience where you might discover solutions to problems you didn't know you had.  Mention what foods you like, and you'll get a list of similar items you had not considered.  I didn't know I needed a closet organizer until I visited an IKEA and learned about all the options.  They were able to customize the solution to meet my needs, and now I'm much more organized. One of the differences between selling products and selling solutions is training.  Visit any of these retailers' sites and you'll see a long list of in-store events for the benefit of customers.  You can buy exercise clothing from Lulu Lemon, and also learn new yoga techniques, meet like-minded people, and branch off to other fitness regimes via their ambassadors.  You can visit the Geek Bar at Apple, eat lunch at IKEA, and learn to cook at Whole Foods. These retailers are making an investment in a relationship with their customers.  They are showing loyalty to their customers before asking for it back.  In the long-run, this strategic approach will outlive any scan-and-bag mentality.

  • Problems during an update of cPanel / WHM

    I ordered a Master WHM account with the couple CentOS / cPanel. whm-cpanel.eu.pn The installation is a fresh update of the basic services was necessary (had: WHM 11.15.0 cPanel 11.17.0 WHM X v3.1.0, Apache 1.3.37, PHP 4.4.7, MySQL 4.1.22). 1 / I started to update cPanel / WHM via the command: / scripts / upcp. Everything went well until the middle of installing the server stopped responding (or ping, or ssh). The installation appears to have continued alone to the end and after some time everything is back to normal (I do not know if there was a reboot) and my interface was updated (cPanel 11.24.4-R36167 - WHM 11.24.2 - X 3.9). 2 / Then I updated via the MySQL interface tweak this in WHM then the command: / scripts / mysqlup. Here everything went fine, no problem. 3 / Finally, I wanted to upgrade Apache 2.2 / PHP 5 and I used this command: / scripts / easyapache. After selecting all the packages and modules installation is started but the same as for point 1: the server did not answer more and this time the installation did not go through. Apache 2.2 is well spent (after the second try) but PHP has remained at 4. I tried several times the same operation without success. I do not think this is a memory problem, a free-m shortly before losing communications gave nothing alarming. By cons CPU time seemed to rise up. I reinstalled the machine again the trick, same problem! Whether via the WHM interface or by Shell, the installation stops short, for 15 minutes the machine is not responding and then everything returns to normal, but no update is done in PHP. Is there a known bug in this version of cPanel / WHM? Someone he met the same problem? If I compile Apache / PHP manually, without using the script easyapache is what I might encounter problems with cPanel later? Thank you!

When I do screen /dev/ttyUSB0 9600 I get the error: bash: /dev/ttyUSB0: Permission denied So I went looking in the file permissions. ls -l from the /dev folder reports: crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 0 2011-04-26 15:47 ttyUSB0 I added my user lars to the dialout group. When I use the commands groups under lars it shows that I'm in the group. Though I still recieve the permissions denied error, as lars, and as root. I'm trying to connect to a console cable to configure some Cisco switches. My OS is OpenSuse 11.3 x86_64 with kernel version 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop.

    I get mysql diskspace error Can't create/write to file '/tmp/#sql_777_0.MYI' (Errcode: 28) mainly because my ngnix server is writing file into the tmp folder which doesn't get clean up.. i added this command as per instructions on the nginx manual to the crontab but doesn't seems to be doing the trick, (i don't understand what it does too) 0 */1 * * * /usr/sbin/tmpwatch -am 1 /tmp/nginx_client then i had to do this commands mannually cd /tmp/nginx_client find -name * | xargs rm i need to know what should i do to automate this clean up ? is there way to increase the /tmp/ - /var/tmp/ size without reformatting or doing any dangerous things ? Can i change the location of the MYSQL - TMP files ?

  • XenServer 5.6.1-fp1. Can't get network working

    I have a PC where XenServer 5.6.1 fp-1 has been successfully installed. I've manually set the network settings: 192.168.1.50 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 but it's set to xenbr0 iface. While eth0 is empty. When I click on "Configure Management Inteface" it shows that eth0 is connected. But when I ping a default gateway (which is 100% should be accessible) it fails. I used to another shell (Alt+F3) and logged as root. I also failed to ping. with both: ping -I eth0 192.168.1.1 and ping -I xenbr0 192.168.1.1 Be assured that: Cable works Ethernet adapter is 100% functional (prev OS was Ubuntu it was working) There is no firewall rule to deny anything. (everything is allowed)

    I currently have two ubuntu servers running Heartbeat and DRBD. The servers are directory connected with a 1000Mbps crossover cable on eth1 and have access to an IP camera LAN on eth0. Now, let's say that one node is down and the remaining functional node is booting after having been shut down.   • Rsync from godaddy to OS X

    I would like to use rsync to backup my website to my local computer (OS X). I started of with this guide and got pretty far. I use the following rsync-line: rsync -PzrlptgD --del --delete-excluded -r --rsync-path=~/bin/rsync user@server:~/ /local/backup/folder/ I wanted to use the -a option (same as rlptgoD) but it crashes as soon as I use the -o flag. receiving file list ... rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (8 bytes received so far) [receiver] rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at /SourceCache/rsync/rsync-42/rsync/io.c(452) [receiver=2.6.9] If I skip the --owner flag it copies the files but I'm not really sure what difference it makes (I've tried to read up on it but found nothing) Should I just skip using the --owner flag?     I had set up a newly purchased HP F4488 using HPLIP, I installed it on my Fedora 10 desktop and it worked fine for the past 2 days. Suddenly, it is failing to print. The scanner works and the photocopier works. When a print job is initialized there is an error and the printer gets disabled. What is the problem? Is there anything that I should fix additionally to make it work?

  • Problems migrating software RAID 5 to new server (linux)

    I have a CentOS setup with sw RAID5 that holds my data. Well, the server died, so I bought another box to migrate my drives to. Only thing is, I cannot get the RAID array rebuilt (not even sure it needs rebuilding, might just need the /dev/md0 mapping created... but I don't even know how to determine what I need!) Some details: RAID5 software (used mdadm) 4x 250GB drives (2 are SATA, 2 are EIDE -- would this matter? It worked fine in the other box...) latest CentOS distro built using mdadm I've got a decent amount of experience with standard linux stuff, but the hardware level stuff runs me in circles. I've spent some time googling and elsewhere here on SF, so please be kind for my newbie questions :). My question is this: how can I diagnose the problem? For all I know, I'm using the wrong device blocks when I try to rebuild the array, but I can't find the command to display only the devices that have some physical attachment. Is there some simple way for me to run mdadm, having it scan over all my physical drives, and say "hey, drives 2,5,6,7 are a software array, want me to mount it?" I basically just took the drives from my old box and put it into my new one. They show up in the BIOS. What steps do I need to take in order to get the array up, running, and mounted?     How am I supposed to pass a password to ldapsearch using the -y <password file> option? If I write the password in the password file in plain text, I get this error: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) additional info: 80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C0903AA, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 52e, v1772 The same happens if I use the -w <password> option. Am I missing something?

  • How can I make check_nrpe wait for my remote script to finish executing?

    I have a python script that's being used as a plugin for NRPE. This script checks to see if a process if running on a virtual machine by doing an SSH one-liner with a "ps ax | grep process" attached. When executing the script manually, it works as expected and returns a single line of output for NRPE as well as a status based on whether or not the process is running. When I attempt to run the command setup to execute this script (from my Nagios server), I instantly get the output "NRPE: Unable to read output", however when I run the script manually it takes about a second before it returns output. Other commands run just fine, so it would seem like NRPE needs to wait a second or two for output rather than instantly failing, but I've been unable to find any way of accomplishing this; any tips? Thanks PS: The virtual machines are not accessible from anywhere other than the host machine, hence the need for the nrpe plugin to ssh from the host into the VM to check the process.
