  Hey guys, I am grabbing a JSON array and storing it in a NSArray, however it includes JSON encoded UTF-8 strings, for example pass\u00e9 represents passé. I need a way of converting all of these different types of strings into the actual character. I have an entire NSArray to convert. Or I can convert it when it is being displayed, which ever is easiest. I found this chart http://tntluoma.com/sidebars/codes/ is there a convenience method for this or a library I can download? thanks, BTW, there is no way I can find to change the server so I can only fix it on my end...

• GetBytes Issue in Loading External Flash

  I'm trying to debug a gallery section within a site of mine. Currently the section display a number of thumbnails which visitor select one to view. Once selected, the main flash loads in an external swf. To make the process smoother, I have a preloader for this process using normal getbytes codes. However for some reasons, the flash works fine in IE but not in Firefox or Chrome. In these browsers, as soon as you click the thumbnail, the preloader animated away to reveal the holder of the external swf. However as it is still loading, the holder is a blank area. Would appreciate if anyone can shed some light on why this is so.

  I am generating lots of images in java and saving them through the ImageIO.write method like this: final BufferedImage img = createSomeImage(); ImageIO.write( img, "png", new File( "/some/file.png" ); I was happy with the results until Google's firefox addon 'Page Speed' told me that i can save up to 60% of the size if i optimize the images. The images are QR codes, their size is around 900B each and the firefox-plugin optimized versions are around 300B. I'd like to save such optimized 300B Images directly from java. So here my question again: How to save optimized png images with java's ImageIO?

  Hi all, I saw some questions raised about the folder structure of source codes, but I never see the question about folder structure of project documentation. I googled it and still do not see many articles talk about. Here is one http://www.projectperfect.com.au/downloads/Info/info_project_folder_structure.pdf To quote some of its words: "There are two broad approaches: Organize by phase so that each top directory is a phase. For example, you might have directories for Feasibility, Business Analysis, Design etc. or whatever your phases are called. Organize by function so that the top directory level are functions. For example, Risks, Requirements, Scope, Change Control, Development. Most times a mix of both are used..." So any thought about it? I believe this is also an important issue!

  I have a service exposed as WCF via NServiceBus. Ultimately, I'd like to call to this service from silverlight. My WCF Service Interface looks like this: [ServiceContract] public interface ISettingsService { [OperationContract(Action = "http://tempuri.org/IWcfServiceOf_RequestSettingsMessage_SettingsResponseMessage/Process", ReplyAction = "http://tempuri.org/IWcfServiceOf_RequestSettingsMessage_SettingsResponseMessage/ProcessResponse") ] SettingsResponseMessage FetchSettings(RequestSettingsMessage request); } My NSB WCF service is defined as: public class CoreService : WcfService<RequestSettingsMessage, SettingsResponseMessage> { } When I invoke the FetchSettings method on the service, I get an exception: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'NServiceBus.WcfSer vice`2' threw an exception. ---- System.InvalidOperationException: Centerlink.Services.Core.Msg.Settings.SettingsResponseMessage must be an enum representing error codes returned by the server. It seems that the WcfService< class is restricting the return type of a WCF method to be an enum. How can I have my service return something other than an enum? Do I need to create a custom implementation of NServiceBus.WcfService<?

  Writing an iphone app, and I'm getting my data from a REST API that returns JSON. My problem is, some of the data has special characters embedded and Im getting errors. Example: MartÌn Petite-RiviËre-Saint-FranÁois Here is my current code: NSString *jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:receivedData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSMutableArray *tempResults = [[[jsonString JSONValue] objectForKey:@"getRegionResortsLastUpdatedResponse"] objectForKey:@"return"]; Whenever the data has special characters in it "jsonString" return "(null)", otherwise everything works fine. Is this something I can handle on my end, or does the API need to be modified to output the character codes?

  I want to create a token generator that generates tokens that cannot be guessed by the user and that are still unique (to be used for password resets and confirmation codes). I often see this code; does it make sense? md5(uniqid(rand(), true)); According to a comment uniqid($prefix, $moreEntopy = true) yields first 8 hex chars = Unixtime, last 5 hex chars = microseconds. I don't know how the $prefix-parameter is handled.. So if you don't set the $moreEntopy flag to true, it gives a predictable outcome. QUESTION: But if we use uniqid with $moreEntopy, what does hashing it with md5 buy us? Is it better than: md5(mt_rand())

• JQuery JEditable stay in edit mode on error

  I'm successfully using jeditable to submit via a function using jQuery.ajax and the async : false option , but am having an issue aborting if an error is returned. How can I get the edit box to stay activated and / or revert back to the original value if there are errors? I'm returning http status codes. so something like async : false .ajax submit here... if (xhr.status == 200) { return value; else { alert ('returned error'); // keep edit box activated but available for another try, or revert back to original value } I tried not returning a value from the function, which keeps the edit box activated and ready for another submit, but then the ESC key doesn't work anymore and if I click outside the edit area, the edit box stays. I have a problem in my asp.net 3.5 application (C#) when I try to render in my pages characters like 'è' which are shown in a very strange manner (if i'm lucky i get a ? mark in my web page). in fact Expression Web, when i open my web site, substitutes the è char with �... How can I tell asp.net that I want to use a particular charset so that i can write in the html source letters like è without using hexadecimal codes?????? I tried in the web.config this: inside the system.web namespace of the file but nothing works.... Can anyone tell me how to do? THANKS in advance

  Background: I have a short list of strings. The number of strings is not always the same, but are nearly always of the order of a “handful” In our database will store these strings in a 2nd normalised table These strings are never changed once they are written to the database. We wish to be able to match on these strings quickly in a query without the performance hit of doing lots of joins. So I am thinking of storing a hash code of all these strings in the main table and including it in our index, so the joins are only processed by the database when the hash code matches. So how do I get a good hashcode? I could: Xor the hash codes of all the string together Xor with multiply the result after each string (say by 31) Cat all the string together then get the hashcode Some other way So what do people think? (If you care we are using .NET and SqlServer)

  Hi, I'm using the Firefox browser and trying to print out my posts (and replies). The pdf output doesn't include the comments in the posts. How to make sure that everything which is on the page gets printed? Same goes for codes for which are in a window. Only the visible part of the code gets printed. These are not programming questions :) but I hope that someone can suggest how to get proper printouts of the posts. Thanks a lot...

  When auditing, sometimes the before value does not get audited, other times the after value does not get audited, other times both values do not get audited at all. After researching, I found out that only values from a specific codes table get audited. the code was: compareCodesTableInteger(audit, int, int, objectBefore, objectAfter, stringDescription, stringCodesTable); I then changed it to: compareCodesTableInteger(audit, int, int, objectBefore, objectAfter, stringDescription, booleanCheck ? stringCodesTableIfTrue : stringCodesTableIfFalse); Description: if objectBefore AND objectAfter are both from stringCodesTableIfTrue OR from stringCodesTableIfFalse, auditing takes place as expected. The problem is: most of the times, objectBefore is from stringCodesTableIfTrue, and objectAfter is from stringCodesTableIfFalse, or vice-versa. In this scenario auditing fails. How do I go around this? Please assist

  How do I see the actual code for the functions implemented in R packaged. For instance I have loaded the caret package and I would like to see the code used for the function "createMultiFolds". I have gone to where the packages are stored but can't seem to find what I am looking for. For instance folders like Meta in the root folder of the caret package have files with the .rds extension which I can read into R with the gzfile command but I can't still seem to find what I am looking for i.e. the exact for the functions e.g. creatMultifolds. I would like to adapt some of these functions specifically to my research needs by make small changes to the codes to output the results in the way that I want without having to "re-invent the wheel" I will be glad if someone can help me.   Hi, I am developing an application using PHP but I am new to regular expressions, I could not find a solution to my problem. I want to replace all occurences of #word with a link, i have written a preg_match for this: $text=preg_replace('~#([\p{L}|\p{N}]+)~u', '<a href="/?aranan=$1">#$1</a>', $text); The problem is, this regular expression also matches the html character codes like &#039; and gives corrupt output. I need to exclude the words starting with &# but i do not know how to do that using regular expressions. Thanks for your help.

• The ** idiom in C++ for object construction

  In a lot of C++ API'S (COM-based ones spring to mind) that make something for you, the pointer to the object that is constructed is usually required as a ** pointer (and the function will construct and init it for you) You usually see signatures like: HRESULT createAnObject( int howbig, Object **objectYouWantMeToInitialize ) ; -- but you seldom see the new object being passed as a return value. Besides people wanting to see error codes, what is the reason for this? Is it better to use the ** pattern rather than a returned pointer for simpler operations such as: wchar_t* getUnicode( const char* src ) ; Or would this better be written as: void getUnicode( const char* src, wchar_t** dst ) ; The most important thing I can think of is to remember to free it, and the ** way, for some reason, tends to remind me that I have to deallocate it as well.
