    I want to be a web programmer [when I grow up?] because it's what I like doing, and I really do thoroughly enjoy it (web development in general, actually). I have about 2 years experience with PHP, CSS, and HTML and a few months experiance with JS and jQuery. I've been wondering this for a while -- what languages should I be most familiar with if I want to try and make a career out of web development? I'm only 17, so I've got plenty of time, and I think I've got a decent headstart on things, but it doesn't hurt to ask. If I'm thinking in terms of being able to get hired as a web programmer, what is (or what are...?) the most useful thing I can do now to be able to have an upper hand when it comes to looking for a job. What languages, as a young programmer, should I really focus on? If you were looking to hire a developer, what would you be looking for?

    Is it possible via script/tool to generate authomatically many delete statements based on the tables fk relations, using Oracle PL/SQL? In example: I have the table: CHICKEN (CHICKEN_CODE NUMBER) and there are 30 tables with fk references to its CHICKEN_CODE that I need to delete; there are also other 150 tables foreign-key-linked to that 30 tables that I need to delete first. Is there some tool/script PL/SQL that I can run in order to generate all the necessary delete statements based on the FK relations for me? (by the way, I know about cascade delete on the relations, but please pay attention: I CAN'T USE IT IN MY PRODUCTION DATABASE, because it's dangerous!) I'm using Oracle DataBase 10G R2.   • Web Platform Installer issues deploying Azure SDK 1.4 on refreshed systems.

    Recently I have been doing quite a bit of testing on different means to deploy the Azure SDKs and such. After a very successful couple of systems, I started running into issues last night. Here is the problem, if I go to the Windows Azure Website, and go to Develop, then click on the SDK and Tools, then Get Tools & SDK, it launches the Web Platform Installer.  All seems well at that point, except it will go through the initial process, will find the SDK files for 1.4, but since the tools for Visual Studio are still 1.3, the location throws back a 404, which causes the Installer to fail.  NOTE:If you already had SDK 1.3 and the tools in place, it will go through.   • How do you deal with web designers who are too afraid to read and touch PHP code?

    I've been hired to make a website and am working with a designer (who happens to be the guy who is in contact with the client and hired me, so no, I can't kick his ass out =) ) who's too afraid to touch into the php code, and is too newbie in html and css to give me good enough models, so the work of today will be going through his new html model of a half-programmed page and removing s and changing classes and the such. Is there some kind of tool, or some better workflow in order to make this easier for both of us? maybe I'm dealing with this the wrong way altogether, I'm new to web development, and I don't know enough html/css (and he supposedly does) to have him just give me a graphic mock-up and do the whole thing, so what we're doing is he gives me a static html page that looks like he wants, and I put around it =) can anyone give me some advice on this?

Right now we have an apache server that accepts http requests on port 80 and redirects to the Tomcat instance: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName domain.com ServerAlias domain.com <LocationMatch "/"> Redirect permanent / https://domain.com/ </LocationMatch> </VirtualHost> Tomcat is handling SSL, because there's no proxy, just a simple redirect to the SSL port: <Connector port="443" maxThreads="200" scheme="https" secure="true" SSLEnabled="true" keystoreFile="/app/ssl/domain_com.jks" keystorePass="ourpassword" clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS"/> We want to begin using the apache web server as a proxy and additionally, do per-IP redirects to certain apps that should only be used by hosts on a pre-determined IP range. We would also like to redirect IPs that don't match the pre-determined list to a static html page hosted on the apache server. My first question is: Should I continue to handle SSL on Tomcat's end, or should I use apache with SSL while forwarding to an "unprotected" tomcat port?   • How do you select form elements in JQuery based upon an html table?

    I am working on some ASP.NET web forms which involves some dynamic generation, and I need to add some onClick helpers on the client side. I have a basic outline of something working, except for one huge problem. There are multiple HTML tables, each generated by a different ASP.NET web control. Each table can contain overlapping field names, which is causing a problem with my JQuery click event handlers. The click event handler is linking to unintended form fields in addition to the intended form field. I have provided a simplified sample version of the code below. This code is trying to set the value of textbox box1 when a particular radiobutton is selected in the table with id=thing1. Obviously, the jquery code will be triggered for the form fields in both tables. The tables are dynamically added to the webpage based upon different conditions. It is possible that no tables will be loaded, only 1 table, or both tables might load. In the future, other tables could be added. Each table comes from a different .net web control. Other than renaming the form fields to make sure they are unique across all user controls, is there a way to have JQuery act only on the intended form fields?   • How do I set up a test duplicate of a Django and Postgresql based web application?

    Not sure if this is an excessively broad and newbie-ish question for Stack Overflow but here goes: I paid someone else to build a web application for me and now I want to tweak certain aspects of it myself. I learn best by trial and error – changing stuff and seeing what happens. Obviously that's not a great way to treat a live site, so I need to duplicate the site on some kind of test server which I can play with without fear of the consequences. Unfortunately the closest I've come to programming has been creating ActionScript-based websites. I've never touched a database. So I really don't know where to start with setting up a test server. I would really appreciate any advice about where to start. I am completely ignorant and lost here. The web application is built in python/django using a Postgresql database. I use Mac OS X 10.6 if that makes any difference.

    I am doing some web data classification task and was thinking if I could get the co-ordinates of html elements as they would appear on a web-browser without taking into consideration any css or javascript being referred in the web page. My language of programming is c++ and the need results for a couple million of pages, so it has to be fast. I know there is a Microsoft COM component which renders the page in a web browser control and then can be queried for position of different html tags. But this is not suitable in my case as it first renders the whole page which takes up a lot of time. So as I found out, there are open-source layout engines WebKit, Gecko that can probably be used for this. But that's a huge piece of code and I need someone to direct me to the right classes or right modules to look into or any previous/similar work someone has done previously. Also, please let me know what you guys think is a good choice if I want to customize the existing code for use with multiple threads to make it faster. Thanks

I would like to create a DLL that I drop into the Bin folder instead of writing all my code inside the App_Code directory. Ideally, I want to create a project and reference it from the web site, but I am running into a difficult situation. The DLL will need to reference configuration and other DLLs located inside the bin folder of the website causing a circular reference. How do I get around this issue?

    I have load balanced web servers, that with the existing code base, handles when a user logs into the site. I would like to send a broadcast message to any applications that have subscribed saying 'hey x logged in' ? So have many web servers and many applications subscribing. How does discovery work/configuration work with nservicebus ? Should each application know about each web server and subscribe individually or is this where the distributer comes in, so web servers all send to the 1 distributer and all application subscribe to single distributer and the distributer relays the message ?     I have a Voip Softphone software that I would like to start using on my Ubuntu 14.04 box. Here's the thing. My system sound right now goes through my HDMI to my speaker system so I can play music all day ;-) I have a bluetooth headset connected to the machine as well. What I am wondering is if there is a way to: Auto-mute the music when a call comes in Auto-switch the sound devices when a call comes in, from my hdmi sound device, to my headset Auto-switch back when the call ends, and auto-un-mute the music Or even just an auto-switch to the headset?
