• Can not connect to wireless on 12.04 with Intel WiFi Link 5100

  I am having problem in connecting to wifi. I have dual boot (Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04) on my Dell Studio 15. I upgraded to 12.04 quite some time ago (at least one month) from 11.10. Everything was working fine till yesterday. Since yesterday I can see the list of available Wifi connection but does not connect to any or if connects (after hours of trying) then disconnects after few minutes. My wifi interface is Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN. However the problem is on both Windows and Ubuntu. • XFCE ~ Volume Hot Keys Not Working

  Just installed vanilla Xubuntu 12.04 LTS & updated on a ThinkPad E325 with Conexant CX20671 sound card. I notice volume hot keys work under Xubuntu DE but not XFCE. You can summon sound settings under Xubuntu but they are missing under XFCE. Also sound bar is greyed out though sound will still function. Muting/decreasing/increasing volume with hot keys has no effect. Is there a workaround? If not what package would I report a bug against?

• Standby Problem, PC can not enter Standby mode

  I have a problem with the Standby function: My Computer does not enter the Standby mode with Ubuntu 14.04LTS. If I remeber me right it, works with Ubuntu 13.10 but this Version was not long installed on this PC. Now when i press Standby in the menu or on my Keyboard the Display turns black for a few seconds, then some messages appear for a very short moment on the screen. After that, the the log-in screen appear. Two times I was able to enter Standby but the other times it fails. Tecnical Data about my PC: Ubuntu 14.04 with all Updates main storage: 3,8GiBprocessor: Intel® Core™ i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz × 4 graphic: Intel® Sandybridge Mobile graphic board: NVIDA GEFORCE GT 555M CUDA 1GB Dual Boot System with win7 x64Bit Medion P6812 Laptop Here is the message output: Usally I got only a half of the screen filled with messages like that. When I filmed it it was much more. I dont know, maybe this is a Bug.

• Bumblebee : Module bbswitch could not be loaded

  I've upgraded to 12.04 and I had to switch from Ironhide to the latest version of Bumblebee. Now, when I try to run bumblebeed, I get this error: FATAL: Module bbswitch not found. [ERROR]Module bbswitch could not be loaded (timeout?) [WARN]No switching method available. The dedicated card will always be on. I don't really need to use the secondary VGA on Kubuntu, so I would like to find a way to definitely shut the discrete GPU down and avoid wasting battery. I can't disable it from the BIOS because I use it on Windows. My card is an nvidia 540M.

• bash profile works for user but not sudo

  I've modified my .profile to include a folder if a flash drive is plugged in. When running the command as the user it works fine but tells me the scrip must be run by sudo (this is what i want). However, when i try to run it with sudo i get "command not found" I have a symlink (flash) in my /var/www folder pointing to my /media/flash drive. (nevermind this setup since is just for dev) this is my user's .profile : # set PATH so it includes flash scripts if [ -d "/var/www/flash/scripts" ] ; then PATH="/var/www/flash/scripts:$PATH" fi when trying to run as sudo i get: sudo: script: command not found any ideas?

  i installed ubuntu 12.04 and it was working perfectly, but from yesterday i have a problem, when i am pressing left ctrl key it doesn't responding but when i pressed Fn key it works as a ctrl key and loses its own functioning,same with the delete(del) key it works as a pause/break key and pause/break key is working as a delete key.numlock key is working as a print screen key, after that i updated my os but the problem is still happening. pls tell me what to do.

However when we search on google or bing or yahoo using the keyword Vialogues, We are given results of the keyword dialogues and this message “showing results for dialogues, search instead for vialogues”. • Gnome Activity Journal does not show recently used files

  I am running ubuntu 10.10, and installed Gnome Activity Journal. However it does not show any recently used files. I have attached a screenshot below. Please note that gnome activity journal has been installed on the system for quite some time. So it is not that I recently installed and it still has to slowly gather data. Also the zeitgeist-daemon is running in the background. Would reinstalling zeitgeist help solve this problem? If yes could you please provide a ppa where I can find the latest stable release of zeitgeist.

• Picture rendered from above and below using an Orthographic camera do not match

  I'm using an orthographic camera to render slices of a model (in order to voxelize it). I render each slice both from above and below in order to determine what is inside each slice. I am using an orthographic camera The model I render is a simple 'T' shape constructed from two cubes. The cubes have the same dimensions and have the same Y (height) coordinate. See figure 1 for a render of it in Blender. I render this model once directly from above and once directly from below. My expectation was that I would get exactly the same image (except for mirroring over the y-axis). However when I render using a very low resolution render target (25x25) the position (in pixels) of the 'T' is different when rendered from above as opposed to rendered from below. See figure 2 and 3. The pink blocks are not part of the original rendering but I've added them so you can easily count/see the differences. Figure 2: the T rendered from above Figure 3: the T rendered from below This is probably due to what I've read about pixel and texel coordinates which might be biased to the top-left as seen from the camera. Since I'm using the same 'up' vector for both of my camera's my bias only shows on the x-axis. I've tried to change the position of the camera and it's look-at by, what I thought, should be half a pixel. I've tried both shifting a single camera and shifting both cameras and while I see some effect I am not able to get a pixel-by-pixel perfect copy from both camera's. Here I initialize the camera and compute, what I believe to be, half pixel. boundsDimX and boundsDimZ is a slightly enlarged bounding box around the model which I also use as the width and height of the view volume of the orthographic camera. • passwordless ssh not working

  I've tried to setup a password-less ssh b/w A to B and B to A as well. Generated the public and private key using ssh-keygen -trsa on both the machines. Used the ssh-copy-id utility to copy the public-keys from A to B as well as B to A. The passwordless ssh works from A to B but not from B to A. I've checked the permissions of the ~/ssh/ folder and seems to be normal. • Why we do not use PowerConnect to access PeopleSoft Tree

  1. It does not allow you to use parameters to the PeopleSoft connect. It may be changed later. However, it was a big issue when we try to address customer issues. 2. It requires EFFDT as an option. It expect that people change the EFFDT using Mapping Editor. How can a business user does that every month? 3. It asks for a Tree Name. Many PeopleSoft tree structure supports multiple trees. Tree is just a header of the hierarchy. Whenever you add a new Tree, you need to create a new mapping!! It does not make sense to use PowerConnect due to the customer demands. All requirements are from customers. We have no choice but stop using it.

• Why not expose a primary key

  In my education I have been told that it is a flawed idea to expose actual primary keys (not only DB keys, but all primary accessors) to the user. I always thought it to be a security problem (because an attacker could attempt to read stuff not their own). Now I have to check if the user is allowed to access anyway, so is there a different reason behind it? Also, as my users have to access the data anyway I will need to have a public key for the outside world somewhere in between. Now that public key has the same problems as the primary key, doesn't it?

• Auto Login not working unless keyboard is plugged in

  I want to use Ubuntu+Unity(11.10) in a kiosk computer (touchscreen all-in-one pc). I want to use touchscreen for all user input (like ATM). During Installation I have created only one account and enabled auto Login. Auto Login works perfectely when the keyboard connected. I don't have to press any key or use mouse, it logs in automatically. But Its not working when keyboard is not connected. OS boots and stops on login screen. I can't connect keyboard in final kiosk hardware installation.

• Could not apply stored configuration for monitors

  Well this happened when I upgraded to Natty. Not only seems I can't change my resolution to higher than 1024x768 but it appears at the left and using only 70% of the monitor's width. I tried logging in but in ubuntu classic mode, and i was able to change it, but that trick did not work anymore. (May this be a compiz problem?) • Thumbnails for certain formats not appearing in Nautilus

  The following formats do not have an icon in Nautilus: .odt .odb And, some of my older documents are missing their thumbnails, all of which are either .odt or .odp. I just purged and reinstalled LibreOffice today...could this be the reason why? Edit: Sorry about my vagueness I am on Ubuntu 11.10, using LibreOffice 3.4 340m1(Build:402) that comes by default in the repos. Here's a screenshot of what I see for these formats.

• Google is not indexing my entire site despite having a sitemap

  I have an e-commerce website www.beyondtime.in. I have been constantly monitoring Googlebot crawling on my website and my webmaster account. Lately, I have found two issues that I have not been able to understand. 1.) The Google Bots have been only crawling www.beyondtime.in/telecom.php when the URL is not even valid. What needs to be done to let Google crawl other pages of the website as well? 2.) The second question is about the Google Webmaster account, where I've submitted my sitemap with 227 URLs. Out of that, only 156 have been indexed. None of the images of my website have been indexed by Google.

• Prompt not working when logged in as specific user

  Hello I am running ubuntu 11.10 and access it via ssh with putty. My problem is that when I log in I get the prompt [email protected]:~$ and my arrow keys do what the y are supposed to. When I try to login in as another user account I made all I get is this as the prompt it never says the directory or anyting $ Also when ever I try to use the left, right, up or down arrow I get a character like this ^[[A Is this a bug in putty or did I just not set the account up right?

  Gnome 3.2 Menu is not loading. I wanted to add a minimize and maximize to the right of my windows. So I did the following: gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/general/button_layout --type string "menu:minimize,maximize,close" logout and login that it per the instructions of this website: Instructions I logged out and back in and that was it. No menu. Help!!! By the way, there is a fix on this website to restore Gnome. However it did not work. Another odd thing was that Gnome Tweak Tool is black under the Shell Extension tab.
