  • How to prevent Google Analytics from adding a second slash between domain and page specific URL when viewing a page?

    - by Jeromy Anglim
I have a blog http://foo.tumblr.com. I sometimes go to Site Content - All Pages on Google Analytics and then navigate to page listing and then click the icon to take me to that page on my blog. However, instead of opening http://foo.tumblr.com/post/1234/blah.html Google Analytics is opening http://foo.tumblr.com//post/1234/blah.html (i.e., it is adding a second slash between the domain the page specific component of the URL). How can I stop Google Analytics from doing this?

  • Microsoft Azure News: Capturing VM Images

    - by Herve Roggero
Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/hroggero/archive/2014/05/21/microsoft-azure-news-capturing-vm-images.aspxIf you have a Virtual Machine (VM) in Microsoft Azure that has a specific configuration, it used to be difficult to clone that VM. You had to sysprep the VM, and clone the data disks. This was slow, prone to errors, and stopped you from being productive. No more! A new option, called Capture, allows you to easily select a VM, running or not. The capture will copy the OS disk and data disks and create a new image out of it automatically for you. This means you can now easily clone an entire VM without affecting productivity.  To capture a VM, simply browse to your Virtual Machines in the Microsoft Azure management website, select the VM you want to clone, and click on the Capture button at the bottom. A window will come up asking to name your image. It took less than 1 minute for me to build a clone of my server. And because it is stored as an image, I can easily create a new VM with it. So that’s what I did… And that took about 5 minutes total.  That’s amazing…  To create a new VM from your image, click on the NEW icon (bottom left), select Compute/Virtual Machine/From Gallery, and select My Images from the left menu when selecting an Image. You will find your newly created image. Because this is a clone, you will not be prompted for a new login; the user id/password is the same. • How to enable and connect to RDP on a Windows Azure Web Role Instance?

    - by Enrique Lima
We all know there have been some updates to Windows Azure, and one of the biggest I would say is the capability of being able to remote into the “OS level” of the image running a role.  And I am not talking about VM Role, I am talking about a Web Role for example. As developers we use Visual Studio, and when we are getting ready to deploy a project, we have the option of enabling this. Here is how: 1.  We publish our Project 2. On the Deployment dialog, provide all the details for your account, and before clicking OK, click on Configure Remote Desktop connections. 3.  Enable connections and the rest of the configuration.  Now, here is where there is an extra set of steps.  The first thing to know: The certificate used here is different from the other certs you have in place.  I created a new one, the went into certmgr.msc, then to Personal, then I selected the cert I just created.  Did a right-click, then All Tasks > Export.  Because what is needed is a pfx package, make sure when exporting you select to export the private key. 4. Click OK, on the Remote Desktop Configuration screen, now before you click OK on the Deployment, you will need to visit the Azure Portal. And perform the following: Go to your hosted services. Then with the service available, select the Certificates folder location. Then, select Add Certificate from the toolbar (more like Azure Portal Ribbon) Provide the details to upload the recently create pfx file. That will create the Certificate. Click OK on the deployment dialog, this kick off the deployment process. 5. Now, we need to go to the Windows Azure Portal.  Here we will select the Web Role deployed and Configure RDP. 6. Time to test.  Click on the Instance (not the role), this will make the Remote Access Connect Button available.  A file will start the process to be downloaded too 7. You will then be prompted for the credentials you configured. 8.  Validate connectivity … 9. Open IIS Manager … From here on, this is a way to manage and work with your Instance.

  • How would one build a relational database on a key-value store, a-la Berkeley DB's SQL interface?

    - by coleifer
I've been checking out Berkeley DB and was impressed to find that it supported a SQL interface that is "nearly identical" to SQLite. http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/bdb-sql/dbsqlbasics.html#identicalusage I'm very curious, at a high-level, how this kind of interface might have been architected. For instance: since values are "transparent", how do you efficiently query and sort by value how are limits and offsets performed efficiently on large result sets how would the keys be structured and serialized for good average-case performance

  • Chrome trims the last <li> element in a row [closed]

    - by Paul
Ok guys, I give up. Here's the code I'm struggling with: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" /> <title>Blah</title> <style type="text/css"> #container { margin: 0 auto; width: 350px; border: 1px solid #ccc; } ul { list-style-type: none; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: center; } ul li { display: inline; padding: 5px; margin: 0 1px; background-color: lime; line-height: 2em; /* border: 1px solid red; */ } </style> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <ul> <li>Element A</li> <li>Element B</li> <li>Element C</li> <li>Element D</li> <li>Element E</li> <li>Element F</li> </ul> </div> </body> </html> Why the heck does Chrome trim the right side of "Element D" (even though there is enough space to display whole item), while Firefox and even Internet Explorer render this code properly? It becomes more visible when we apply the commented border. In other words, is there a way to tell the browser that I want every single <li> element to be autonomic, and thus to move it to the next row if it doesn't fit entirely in the previous one? Can't wait to see the solution, thanks in advance.

  • SEO and JavaScript since Google admits JS parsing

    - by schlingel
We're planning on building a HTML snapshot creation service to provide the Google crawlers with static HTML of our JS driven single page application. Is this still necessary and/or encouraged since Google openly admits it is parsing JS now? How should I tackle this evaluation? Are there tools to provide data on when it's needed to provide snapshots and when google has sufficent parsing? Is it better because it would be much faster in comparison to the JS incremental rendering?

  • Get selected object from TreeView

    - by GoGoDo
I've been working on a minor (first time) app with quickly and hit a hurdle - how do I get the selected row (the data) from a TreeView? The data to the TreeView is passed from a list of files in a directory, and I need to know which rows were selected (and thus which files were). What is the best way to do that? Here's the current code: self.treeview = self.builder.get_object("treeview") select = self.treeview.get_selection() select.connect("changed", self.on_tree_selection_changed) def on_tree_selection_changed(selection): model, treeiter = self.treeview.selection-get() if treeiter != None: print "You selected", model[treeiter][0]
