  • Associated models in Rails?

    - by dannymcc
Hi Everyone, In my rails application I have two models called Kases and Notes. They work in the same way comments do with blog posts, I.e. each Kase entry can have multiple notes attached to it. I have got everything working, but for some reason I cannot get the destroy link to work for the Notes. I think I am overlooking something that is different with associated models to standard models. Notes Controller class NotesController < ApplicationController # POST /notes # POST /notes.xml def create @kase = Kase.find(params[:kase_id]) @note = @kase.notes.create!(params[:note]) respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to @kase } format.js end end end Kase Model class Kase < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :jobno has_many :notes Note Model class Note < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :kase end In the Kase show view I call a partial within /notes called _notes.html.erb: Kase Show View <div id="notes"> <h2>Notes</h2> <%= render :partial => @kase.notes %> <% form_for [@kase, Note.new] do |f| %> <p> <h3>Add a new note</h3> <%= f.text_field :body %><%= f.submit "Add Note" %> </p> <% end %> </div> /notes/_note.html.erb <% div_for note do %> <div id="sub-notes"> <p> <%= h(note.body) %><br /> <span style="font-size:smaller">Created <%= time_ago_in_words(note.created_at) %> ago on <%= note.created_at %></span> </p> <%= link_to "Remove Note", kase_path(@kase), :confirm => 'Are you sure?', :method => :delete, :class => 'important' %> </div> <% end %> As you can see, I have a Remove Note destroy link, but that destroys the entire Kase the note is associated with. How do I make the destroy link remove only the note? <%= link_to "Remove Note", kase_path(@kase), :confirm => 'Are you sure?', :method => :delete, :class => 'important' %> Any help would, as always, be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Danny

  • How to change the class of an object dynamically in C#?

    - by codemonkie
Suppose I have a base class named Visitor, and it has 2 subclass Subscriber and NonSubscriber. At first a visitor is start off from a NonSubscriber, i.e. NonSubscriber mary = new NonSubscriber(); Then later on this "mary" subscribed to some services, and I want to change the type of "mary" to Subscriber. What is the conventional way to do that?

  • When would you put a semicolon after a method closing brace?

    - by froadie
I've been programming in Java for a while, and I've just come across this syntax for the first time: public Object getSomething(){return something;}; What's interesting me is the final semicolon. It doesn't seem to be causing a compiler error, and as far as I know isn't generating runtime errors, so it seems to be valid syntax. When would I use this syntax? Or is it just something that is allowed but generally not used?

  • Context Free Language Question (Pumping Lemma)

    - by Maixy
I know this isn't directly related to programming, but I was wondering if anyone know how to apply the pumping lemma to the following proof: Show that L={(a^n)(b^n)(c^m) : n!=m} is not a context free language I'm pretty confident with applying pumping lemmas, but this one is really irking me. What do you think?

  • How can a new hire/intern make a good impression?

    - by Tristan
In a week I start at my first real programming internship for a multinational company, I want to know, aside from "hard work" what can I do to prepare for this? How do I be a good new employee? (FYI, my first assignment is to help the team with "enhancements to our test driver to automate our regression testing" on an air traffic control system written in ADA)

  • How do I destruct data associated with an object after the object no longer exists?

    - by Phineas
I'm creating a class (say, C) that associates data (say, D) with an object (say, O). When O is destructed, O will notify C that it soon will no longer exist :( ... Later, when C feels it is the right time, C will let go of what belonged to O, namely D. If D can be any type of object, what's the best way for C to be able to execute "delete D;"? And what if D is an array of objects? My solution is to have D derive from a base class that C has knowledge of. When the time comes, C calls delete on a pointer to the base class. I've also considered storing void pointers and calling delete, but I found out that's undefined behavior and doesn't call D's destructor. I considered that templates could be a novel solution, but I couldn't work that idea out. Here's what I have so far for C, minus some details: // This class is C in the above description. There may be many instances of C. class Context { public: // D will inherit from this class class Data { public: virtual ~Data() {} }; Context(); ~Context(); // Associates an owner (O) with its data (D) void add(const void* owner, Data* data); // O calls this when he knows its the end (O's destructor). // All instances of C are now aware that O is gone and its time to get rid // of all associated instances of D. static void purge (const void* owner); // This is called periodically in the application. It checks whether // O has called purge, and calls "delete D;" void refresh(); // Side note: sometimes O needs access to D Data *get (const void *owner); private: // Used for mapping owners (O) to data (D) std::map _data; }; // Here's an example of O class Mesh { public: ~Mesh() { Context::purge(this); } void init(Context& c) const { Data* data = new Data; // GL initialization here c.add(this, new Data); } void render(Context& c) const { Data* data = c.get(this); } private: // And here's an example of D struct Data : public Context::Data { ~Data() { glDeleteBuffers(1, &vbo); glDeleteTextures(1, &texture); } GLint vbo; GLint texture; }; }; P.S. If you're familiar with computer graphics and VR, I'm creating a class that separates an object's per-context data (e.g. OpenGL VBO IDs) from its per-application data (e.g. an array of vertices) and frees the per-context data at the appropriate time (when the matching rendering context is current).

  • Using Google Common Collection in GWT

    - by Jeeyoung Kim
This is a simple problem, but I'm having problems with it... I'm trying to use Google common collection's Objects.equal() method in a GWT client code, but I'm keep getting the error "20:12:10.001 [ERROR] [gwt_regex] Line 39: No source code is available for type com.google.common.base.Objects; did you forget to inherit a required module?" Tried to Google for the answer, but couldn't find any answer regarding this - everyone just said "Google collection should work off the box with GWT".

  • Naming selenium grid nodes. Spawning a specific node

    - by ???? ????
I'm trying to implement a kind of default queues in selenium hub. There is a possibility to specify node's name (actually its environment, smth like "firefox on ubuntu" or "chrome on windows"). Selenium grid itself has a default queue, it works according to 'First In, First Out' principle. But I want to prioritize some of my tasks given to selenium server. I have no possibility to introduce custom queue (seems like there is no API for that), that's why I decided to separate queue's logic from selenium server. I'll only call a specific node with specific name (environment) for example "firefox important node" or smth like that. So, I want to know how to directly tell selenium which node to use for my task? And generally, am I thinking in a right way? Here are my configs: hubConfig.json.erb { "host": null, "port": <%= node[:selenium][:server][:port] %>, "newSessionWaitTimeout": -1, "servlets" : [], "prioritizer": null, "capabilityMatcher": "org.openqa.grid.internal.utils.DefaultCapabilityMatcher", "throwOnCapabilityNotPresent": true, "nodePolling": <%= node[:selenium][:server][:node_polling] %>, "cleanUpCycle": <%= node[:selenium][:server][:cleanup_cycle] %>, "timeout": <%= node[:selenium][:server][:timeout] %>, "browserTimeout": 0, "maxSession": <%= node[:selenium][:server][:max_session] %> } nodeConfig.json.erb { "capabilities": [ { "browserName": "firefox", "maxInstances": 5, "seleniumProtocol": "WebDriver" }, { "browserName": "chrome", "maxInstances": 5, "seleniumProtocol": "WebDriver" }, { "browserName": "phantomjs", "maxInstances": 5, "seleniumProtocol": "WebDriver" } ], "configuration": { "proxy": "org.openqa.grid.selenium.proxy.DefaultRemoteProxy", "maxSession": <%= node[:selenium][:node][:max_session] %>, "port": <%= node[:selenium][:node][:port] %>, "host": "<%= node[:fqdn] %>", "register": true, "registerCycle": <%= node[:selenium][:node][:register_cycle] %>, "hubPort": <%= node[:selenium][:server][:port] %> } } And my Driver class: ... def remote_driver @browser = Watir::Browser.new(:remote, :url => "http://myhub.com:4444/wd/hub", :http_client => client, :desired_capabilities => capabilities ) end def capabilities Selenium::WebDriver::Remote::Capabilities.send( "firefox", :javascript_enabled => true, :css_selectors_enabled => true, :takes_screenshot => true ) end def client client = Selenium::WebDriver::Remote::Http::Default.new client.timeout = 360 client end ... I still don't know how to use specified node for my task. If I try to start a driver adding :name => "firefox important node" and extend nodeConfig.json.erb's configuration with environments: - name: "firefox important node" browser: "*firefox" - name: "Firefox36 on Linux" browser: "*firefox" selenium just starts random firefox browser on a random node. How can I control it?

  • Is there a user provisioning API, and/or account migration/transition tool for Gmail on Google Apps?

    - by Olaseni
I've decided to move all the mail accounts in my domain to Google Apps: Is there a subtle migration tool that can make the transition painless, since I want all the mail history and folders to be intact. I'm also looking to duplicate the user provisioning API with Google Apps Users alternative. Are my goals realistic? Are there any tools out there that already make this task simpler?

  • Recursion with an Array; can't get the right value to return

    - by Matt
    Recursive Solution: Not working! Explanation: An integer, time, is passed into the function. It's then used to provide an end to the FOR statement (counter<time). The IF section (time == 0) provides a base case where the recursion should terminate, returning 0. The ELSE section is where the recursive call occurs: total is a private variable defined in the header file, elsewhere. It's initialized to 0 in a constructor, elsewhere. The function calls itself, recursively, adding productsAndSales[time-1][0] to total, again, and again, until the base call. Then the total is returned, and printed out later. Well, that's what I hoped for anyway. What I imagined would happen is that I would add up all the values in this one column of the array and the value would get returned, and printed out. Instead if returns 0. If I set the IF section to "return 1", I noticed that it returns powers of 2, for whatever value time is. EG: Time = 3, it returns 2*2 + 1. If time = 5, it returns 2*2*2*2 + 1. I don't understand why it's not returning the value I'm expecting. int CompanySales::calcTotals( int time ) { cout << setw( 4 ); if ( time == 0 ) { return 0; } else { return total += calcTotals( productsAndSales[ time-1 ][ 0 ]); } } Iterative Solution: Working! Explanation: An integer, time, is passed into the function. It's then used to provide an end to the FOR statement (counter<time). The FOR statement cycles through an array, adding all of the values in one column together. The value is then returned (and elsewhere in the program, printed out). Works perfectly. int CompanySales::calcTotals( int time ) { int total = 0; cout << setw( 4 ); for ( int counter = 0; counter < time; counter++ ) { total += productsAndSales[counter][0]; } return total0; }

  • What is the most elegant way to validate the presence of ONLY one out of two attributes using Rails?

    - by marcgg
class Followup < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :post belongs_to :comment end This model needs to only have either a post or a comment, but only one of the two. Here's the rspec for what I'm trying to do: it "should be impossible to have both a comment and a post" do followup = Followup.make followup.comment = Comment.make followup.should be_valid followup.post = Post.make followup.should_not be_valid end I can see a bunch of ways of doing this, but what would be the most elegant way of doing this?

  • App dies on startup but not crash report

    - by brettr
I've given an ad hoc version of my app to some users. Two of them have the app die on start up while one user has no issues. I can also install the ad hoc without issue...but that is always the case for me. One user sent the info below from the Xcode Organizer Console. They didn't find any crash logs. I don't know what to make of the info below. The one thing that stands out is "Permission denied". I place the provisioning and myapp.app files in a dropbox folder. The user then retrieves the files from the same location. I've run codesign against the .app file in the dropbox and get valid output: codesign -vvvv myapp.app myapp.app: valid on disk myapp.app: satisfies its Designated Requirement Any one have some ideas how I can figure out why the app doesn't work for this user? • Programmatically add IP(s) or domain(s) to Relay Restrictions in SMTP Virtual Server on IIS 6

    - by RJ
I have been given a task to create an admin page to programmatically add IPs or domains to a SMTP Relay Restrictions using C#. I spent some time researching this since yesterday and finally traced this down to a few posts on several website that use the System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntr class. Using the examples I found, I can add or deny IPs or domains under Connection control but not Relay Restrictions. What would be the commands in C# to add IPs to the Relay Restrictions? Below is a pic of the GUI in IIS for reference.-

  • C# OOP File Structure?

    - by Soo
Hey SO, I just started programming with objects recently and am trying to learn good habits early on. The way I plan to structure my application is to have two files: 1: Program.cs - This file will contain the main logic for the application 2: Class.cs - This file will contain all of the class definitions Pretty simple. What I'm wondering if I should have any more files for ... well, you tell me. Any help would be appreciated.

  • long vs. short branches in version control

    - by Vincenzo
I wonder whether anyone knows some research done with the question "What is good/bad in long/short branches in version control?" I'm specifically interested in academic researches performed in this field. My questions are: What problems (or conflicts) long branches may produce and how to deal with them How to split a big task onto smaller branches/sub-tasks How to coordinate the changes in multiple short branches, related to the same code Thanks in advance for links and suggestions!

Hi I have been tasked to either find an off the shelf solution or to build inhouse some software that can maintain a list of all of the applications within our business, assign them to the different business areas that use them and list all the servers, documents, knowledge base etc that relate to the app in question. Does anyone know of any existing software that can do this ? Regards
