• handling java exception

  This questions is related to java exception, why are there some cases that when an exception thrown the program exits even though the exception was caught and there was no exit() statement? my code looks something like this void bindProxySocket(DefaultHttpClientConnection proxyConnection, String hostName, HttpParams params) { if (!proxyConnection.isOpen()) { Socket socket = null; try { socket = new Socket(hostName, 80); } catch (UnknownHostException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } try { proxyConnection.bind(socket, params); } catch(IOException e) { System.err.println ("couldn't bind socket"); e.printStackTrace(); } } } and then I call this method like this: bindProxySocket(proxyConn, hostName, params1); but, the program exits, although I want to handle the exception by doing something else, can it be because I didn't enclose the method call within a try catch clause? what happens if I catch the exception again even though it's already in the method? and what should I do if i want to clean resources only if an exception occurs and otherwise I want to continue with the program? I am guessing in this case I have to include the whole piece of code until I can clean the resources with in a try statement or can I do it in the handle exception statement? some of these questions are on this specific case, but I would like to get a thorough answer to all my questions for future reference. thanks

• File transfer eating alot of CPU

  I'm trying to transfer a file over a IHttpHandler, the code is pretty simple. However when i start a single transfer it uses about 20% of the CPU. If i were to scale this to 20 simultaneous transfers the CPU is very high. • Why can't the 'NonSerialized' attribute be used at the class level? How to prevent serialization of

  I have a data object that is deep-cloned using a binary serialization. This data object supports property changed events, for example, PriceChanged. Let's say I attached a handler to PriceChanged. When the code attempts to serialize PriceChanged, it throws an exception that the handler isn't marked as serializable. My alternatives: I can't easily remove all handlers from the event before serialization I don't want to mark the handler as serializable because I'd have to recursively mark all the handlers dependencies as well. I don't want to mark PriceChanged as NonSerialized - there are tens of events like this that could potentially have handlers. Ideally, I'd like .NET to just stop going down the object graph at that point and make that a 'leaf'. So why can't I just mark the handler class as 'NonSerialized'? -- I finally worked around this problem by making the handler implement ISerializable and doing nothing in the serialize constructor/ GetDataObject method. But, the handler still is serialized, just with all its dependencies set to null - so I had to account for that as well. Is there a better way to prevent serialization of an entire class?

  I've got a small bit of DRY going on in code I and others have written that I'd like to reduce but I'm failing to figure out how to get it done. This is legacy COM code but it's interfering with the readability. I can't think of any reasonable solution without having to write a bunch of template specializations totally defeating the point in the first place. Is there a way to write ANDMAGICHAPPENS?

• Connecting to SFTP service via Java Runtime process

  Under my project, I have a Java class file, inside of which I have a routine which executes the following external SFTP script file: #!/bin/sh echo "cd AV/OASIS" >> sftp echo "put $1 $2" >> sftp echo "get AV/OASIS/$2 $3$2" >> sftp echo "bye" >> sftp /usr/local/bin/sftp -b sftp id@domain cat /dev/null > sftp exit 0 The Java code which executes the script file is as below: String script = "full path of script"; Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(script + " " + param1 + " " + param2 + " " + param3); However, I'm not sure why, but the log generated by the class file always shows the error "Host key verification failed. Connection closed." I'd isolated that line in the script which connected to the remote machine, and ran it on the local machine (where this class file and script file are stored), and the command executed successfully I'd manually run the command which the Java class file will execute and it also tested okay: $ script.sh param1 param2 param3 I'd tried to look up the error message on the Internet, and apparently it seems to have something to do with known_hosts. Could this be the reason, or is there something else I'm missing? Thanks so much!

  I'm trying to have a UIPickerView slide from the bottom of the screen (over the top of a tab bar) but can't seem to get it to show up. The actual code for the animation is coming from one of Apple's example code projects (DateCell).   Complete and utter neophyte to Objective-C and the entire Mac platform so don't flame me please =). Basically I'm trying to create a simple game. The game has a board which I've created a class for and a board is comprised of squares which I also created a class for (board and square respectively). In my view controller I'm trying to instantiate a board and add boardSize^2 squares to said object. board contains an NSMutableArray *squares. I've also created a convenience method which sets an NSNumber *boardSize called initWithDimension. In my touchesBegan handler I have the following: board *game_board = [[board alloc] initWithDimension:10]; int size = [game_board.boardSize intValue]; for(int i = 0; i <= size; i++) { square *s = [[square alloc] init]; [game_board.squares addObject:s]; [s release]; } NSLog(@"%i", size); NSLog(@"%@", [game_board.squares objectAtIndex:0]); ...and I'm getting 10 (as expected) and then (null). This is probably glaringly obvious to an experienced developer, I've just struggled for an hour trying to solve it and have given up. I've tried it without the [s release] as well, same result. I've also imported square.h and board.h. Any ideas what's wrong here? Any other comments on what I'm brutalizing? Thanks.

  in my project there's a service that listens for changes in the connectivity. When wifi is switched off to on then it gets called. The problem it's that i'm using a fragment and inside a fragment there's a button with the setonclicklistener(); and onclick(); SOMETIMES when i touch the button then the service receives an intent that the connectivity has changed (the method gets called without any reason...). The clients of our service are Silverlight 3.0 clients using PollingDuplexHttpBinding which is the only binding available for Silverlight. We have been running fine for ages, but recently have been doing a lot of data binding, and this is when the issues started. Any help with this is appreciated as I am personally stumped at this time.

  I've been successful in creating a simple trigger with a PHP script. The problem comes when I have to use "DELIMITER" in my trigger creating because I have nested if/then statements. For example, the following DOES work: $sql = 'CREATE TRIGGER `database`.`detail` BEFORE INSERT on `database`.`vibez_detail` FOR EACH ROW set @a=new.realtime_value'; $junk = mysqli_query($link, $sql); However, if I need to use "DELIMITER" I get errors galore.   I have two columns, the second column depends on the content on the first column. By default, the second columns is readonly. When I enter some valid value, I want the second column to become editable. To achive this, I created a cell template and cell edit template on the second column where back ground and read only bound to the first column. On load, the first column is null so my second columns comes correctly as read only.   I am working with Flex, and I need to take a relative URL source property and convert it to an absolute URL before loading it. The specific case I am working with involves tweaking SoundEffect's load method. I need to determine if a file will be loaded from the local file system or over the network from looking at the source property, and the easiest way I've found to do this is to generate the absolute URL. I'm having trouble generating the absolute URL for sound effect in particular. Here were my initial thoughts, which haven't worked. Look for the DisplayObject that the Sound Effect targets, and use its loaderInfo property. The target is null when the SoundEffect loads, so this doesn't work. Look at FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication, at the url or loaderInfo properties. Neither of these are set, however. Look at the FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.systemManager.loaderInfo. This was also not set. The SoundEffect.as code basically boils down to var url:String = "mySound.mp3"; /*>> I'd like to convert the URL to absolute form here and tweak it as necessary <<*/ var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url); var loader:Loader = new Loader(); loader.load(req); Does anyone know how to do this? • mySQL removes first digit

  I have a series of (say) boxes on the screen in a row, all subviews of my main view. Each is a UIView. I want to shift them all left and have a new view also enter the screen from the right in lockstep. • Flex 3 - Saving an image of a component

  Im currently trying to work the imageSnapshot function in flex. Ive been looking hard but I cant seem to find a solution to my problem. I wish to take a screenshot of one of my components, to capture the final output of my program, since a plain "printscreen" cuts off some of the output due to it scrolling. My current code looks like - <mx:ApplicationControlBar dock="true"> <mx:Button label="Take snapshot of Profile" click="takeSnapshot();" /> </mx:ApplicationControlBar> Which when called does - private function takeSnapshot(even:Event=null):void { var imageSnap:ImageSnapshot = ImageSnapshot.captureImage(viewstack1); Now i think this is taking the image of the viewstack which I want... But Im stumped on what to do from here! Is it not possible to now just copy the image to the clipboard, or produce a new window in my browser with the entire image inside? If anyone has any other way to do this, suggestions would be wonderful. Thank you for your time.
