I have developed 3 simple blogging system in PHP/Apache/Mysql, Python/Ngix/Postgresql and in Erlang/Yaws/Mnesia.
How can I measure performance on my server for this 3 different configuration ?
My app needs to process text files during a batch process. Occassionally I receive a file with some special character at the end of the file. I am not sure what that special character is. Is there anyway I can find what that character is so that I can tell the other team which is producing that file.
I have used mozilla's library to guess the file encoding and it says UTF-8.
Eclipse Helios periodically starts running a job which displays "Computing additional info". During this time, Eclipse is very sluggish, bordering on unusable. What does this job do? Can I shut it off?
I just hope that someone in the JDT team comes to sense and gets rid of it, make it go faster, or at the very least change it to something meaningful.
I need to develop a geometry library in python, describing points, lines and planes in 3d space, and various geometry operations. Related to my previous question.
The main issue in the design is if these entities should have identity or not. I was wondering if there's a similar library out there (developed in another language) to take inspiration from, what is the chosen design, and in particular the reason for one choice vs. the other.
Which lesser-known but useful features of Clojure do you find yourselves using? Feel free to share little tricks and idioms, but try to restrict yourselves to Core and Contrib.
I found some really interesting information in answers to these similar questions:
Hidden features of Haskell
Hidden features of Python
Hidden features of Java
Hidden features of C
There are many more "Hidden feature" questions for other languages, so I thought it would be nice to have one for Clojure, too.
It is interesting that some languages do not use semicolons and braces, even though their predecessors had them. Personally, it makes me nervous to write code in Python because of this. Semicolons are also missing from Google's GO language, although the lexer uses a rule to insert semicolons automatically as it scans.
Why do some languages not use semicolons and braces?
What's the best way to organise my personal TODO list?
and what tools are available for organising team TODO lists?
Should I still be thinking in terms of TODO or are there better ways to manage my time and projects?

I built GNU Smalltalk from source on my Mac because I couldn't get it working using fink and I found VMs like Squeak hard to understand. When I run the gst command it works fine, but unlike command line interfaces such the Python and Lua ones, it is hard to use because when I use the left or right arrow keys, I want the cursor to move left or right, but instead it inserts text like "^[[D". I understand why it does this but is there any way to fix it so it is more usable?
As part of a University project, my team and I have to set up automated unit testing with CruiseControl.rb. We chose to use CodeIgniter for the project, and are having some problems getting everything working together. Does anyone have experience setting up such a configuration? Some of the unit testing frameworks we've tried are:
PHPUnit
SimpleTest
Toast
...but we've had no success with any of them.
Hi.
We are a team working on a bunch of SSIS packages, which we share using version control (SVN). We have three ways of saving sensitive data in these packages :
not storing them at all
storing them with a user key
storing them with a password
However, each of these options is inconvenient while testing packages saved and committed by an other developer. For each such package, one has to update the credentials, no matter how the sensitive data was persisted.
Is there a better way to collaborate on SSIS packages?
Can anyone share with me (without fervent evangelism, please) any comparative experiences you might have with regard to ColdFusion and PHP in developing internal enterprise browser-based applications?
Specifically (but not limited to):
1: Do the rapid-development characteristics of ColdFusion compensate for any performance issues resulting from the additional overhead?
2: Is either particularly suited to individual or team development?
3: Is rapidly developing an application in ColdFusion and then porting it to PHP to improve performance a proposition that only a madman or venture capitalist would consider?
hello ..

Are there any features you would like to see added to C++?
Maybe...
A programming construct
An extra operator
A built-in function you think would be useful
I realize questions like this are frowned upon, but I think this one is a genuine programming question that can be answered and the answers will spawn valuable discussion. (And it's community wiki.)
Here is one of mine:
How come C++ has no exponent operator, like Python's **?
Hey everybody,
I am using SVN as my source control with ANKH and TortoiseSVN. I am writing a huge change in a project, and it takes a few days to make the change, but in the meantime I still want to commit once in a while for backup.
But if I commit other team members will get updated with my unfinished work.
Is there a way that I can "commit for backup" without changing the revision (so other won't get updated with my changes)?
Thanks!
I have a 2048 bits public key (asymmetric, RSA) of which I know the Modulus and Exponent and need to encrypt a string.
Ideally, I want to encrypt a small string in c# and later on decrypt it with python.
Hi,
How to go through a list or fetch element from a list in scheme?
How can I name each element (like we do for variables in java) in a list?
Thanks in advance.
I want to compare every point in a list to another point. So, as we do in java or python-
for(int i;i<list.size();i++){
if (list[i]> k){
//do something
}
}
How can I do similar thing in scheme?
I want to develop a website that will allow analysts within the company to run Hadoop jobs (choose from a set of defined jobs) and see their job's status\progress.
Is there an easy way to do this (get running jobs statuses etc.) via Ruby\Python?
How do you expose your Hadoop cluster to internal clients on your company?
Caveat:
I try all the posibilities listed here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/254002/how-can-i-ignore-everything-under-a-folder-in-mercurial.
None works as I hope.
I want to ignore every thing under the folder test. But not ignore srcProject\test\TestManager
I try
syntax: glob
test/**
And it ignores test and srcProject\test\TestManager
With:
syntax: regexp
^/test/
It's the same thing.
Also with:
syntax: regexp
test\\*
I have install TortoiseHG 0.4rc2 with Mercurial-626cb86a6523+tortoisehg, Python-2.5.1, PyGTK-2.10.6, GTK-2.10.11 in Windows
I have a requirement to show a status indicator in the status bar of an Eclipse application. I can't contribute through the ApplicationWindowAdviser (another team owns the core product), but I feel sure that I should be able to contribute through an extension point. Despite much googling, I can't find anything describing how to do this.
Until I can convince others to convert over to Team Foundation Server 2010 (TFS2010), I'm still going to use Visual Source Safe 2005 (VSS2005). I will be upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 (VS2010) soon. What do I need to get VS2010 to work with VSS2005? I understand there is a patch for VSS.
I have two tables, with the same structure, for example: table "first' with columns 'a','b','c' and table 'second' with the same columns. How to find difference betweet those two tables?
Of course, I can make some script on python, that will make set(a)-set(b), but I think there is some way to do it in mysql.
I've always used PHP, but recently I've been reading about why it's bad. I love Python, but I don't know how it works with the web. I've never even seen Ruby... what is worth learning? Should I stick to PHP?
I have taken the idea of "language maintenance" a niche that no one is paying attention to and created a company focused on live conversation with complimentary tools. Looking to create a web 2.0 style social network with an already clearly defined brand identity, design and plan. Already have assembled a team but am looking for a passionate programmer to take the technical lead and create a functional alpha and beta.
Being a development lead has its own set of challenges. You know a lot of stuff that can be considered as a best practice, but to ensure that everyone in your team is following them is one such challenge. How do you overcome this?
