• Unable to commit to Subversion

  I have a client who had to rebuild his automated build server. He checked out his project folder from my subversion server but is now no longer able to commit - he gets this error: Error: Commit failed (details follow): Error: Cannot write to the prototype revision file of transaction '551-1' because a Error: previous representation is currently being written by another process Finished!: I have searched Google but although this error has been often reported there is no clear explanation - does anyone on StackOverflow have a solution? UPDATE: Nobody else commits to that repository, so it was not a transaction stuck (at least not from another user). In the end we found that permissions were not set correctly. Not that you would know it from this message, but that fixed the problem.

• C# console applications all 16bit?

  Hi all, I was reading up about NTVDM.exe as I build a quick test console app and it crashed on a friends machine complaining about this EXE. As I understand it all DOS cmd windows (C# console apps included) run as 16bit not 32bit. Is this true? Does this mean all my works console app back office apps are running as 16bit rather than making the most of the 32bit available? What about Windows services? As I believe we wrote it as a console app then made it run as a windows service? Thanks

• Anyone get mach_inject working on snow leopard?

• Is Eclipse Remote System Explorer broken on Windows?

  I have the following setup on Windows 7 Ultimate x64: Eclipse Indigo 2.7.2 (Build: M20120208-0800) Remote System Explorer 3.3.2 (see screenshot) (Oracle/Sun) Java 1.6 Update 31 (x86) Despite all my best efforts I am unable to connect to a remote system (a Centos 5.6 server on my local LAN) using a Remote System Explorer SSH connection - I've tried both password authentication and using my SSH private key. Here is a screenshot of both the Eclipse error dialogue and what is logged in my /var/log/secure log file: /var/log/secure: Apr 1 12:00:21 nagios sshd[6176]: Received disconnect from 172.16.3.88: 3: com.jcraft.jsch.JSchException: Auth fail When I connect for the first time I do get prompted to verify the authenticity of the remote host and the RSA key fingerprint. But that's as far as things go. Performing the same operation with the same credentials on my Fedora Core 16 box (also running the same version of Eclipse and Java) to the same server is successful. This leads me to believe that RSE SSH support on Windows is either broken or there's some piece of the SSH-on-Windows puzzle I'm missing. Is this the case?

  Is it possible to package PHPUnit tests as a PHAR archive, and run them using phpunit? • Custom Scrollbar for UITableView

  the iTunes song list display is a TableView that has a dotted scrollbar on the right which allows me to jump to a relative position of the list (i.e. if I click the bar at 2/3 down I am scrolled to the 66% position of the list. I want to do the same in my UITableView, but am not sure whether this is standard functionality that I can use (which class?) or whether this is a custom build ... If the latter, has someone got some samplecode that I could use as a template?

• How to calculate real-time stats?

  I have a site with millions of users (well, actually it doesn't have any yet, but let's imagine), and I want to calculate some stats like "log-ins in the past hour". The problem is similar to the one described here: http://highscalability.com/blog/2008/4/19/how-to-build-a-real-time-analytics-system.html The simplest approach would be to do a select like this: select count(distinct user_id) from logs where date>='20120601 1200' and date <='20120601 1300' (of course other conditions could apply for the stats, like log-ins per country) Of course this would be really slow, mainly if it has millions (or even thousands) of rows, and I want to query this every time a page is displayed. How would you summarize the data? What should go to the (mem)cache? EDIT: I'm looking for a way to de-normalize the data, or to keep the cache up-to-date. For example I could increment an in-memory variable every time someone logs in, but that would help to know the total amount of logins, not the "logins in the last hour". Hope it's more clear now.

• Rail 3 custom renderer: where do put this code?

  I'm following along with Yehuda's example on how to build a custom renderer for Rails 3, according to this post: http://www.engineyard.com/blog/2010/render-options-in-rails-3/ I've got my code working, but I'm having a hard time figuring out where this code should live. Right now, I've got my code stuck right inside of my controller file. Doing this, everything works. When I move the code to the lib folder, though, I have explicitly 'require' my file in the controller that needs the renderer or it won't work. Yes, the file gets loaded when it sits in the lib folder, automatically. but the code to add the renderer isn't working for some reason, until I do a require on it. where should I put my code to add the renderer and mime type, so that rails 3 will pick it up and register it for me, without me having to manually require the file in my controller?

  For while now I have been using ezpublish as a framework, and CMS when my web projects are based on PHP, and I must say, I have grown accustomed to it because of its flexibility for most scenarios. However, I've had to build e-commerce sites now and then, and ezpublish includes a webshop that caters for the e-commerce needs of your installation, and of-course with all the tools you need to extend, should you need to. Is it worthwhile and optimal to use the inbuilt webshop for an e-commerce solution, or should I rather go with an all out e-commerce solution like Magento, which has made a significant impact in that sector?

• MacBook Pro Late 2009 SATA Resets, Slowness (Is my motherboard dying on both machines?)

  My MacBook Pro runs slower the longer it's on. I am getting kernel warnings. Some, but not all, resets correlate with AC power connects and disconnects. I don't think the warnings do. (How do I tell?) What are these errors? What causes them? Can this damage the drive or corrupt data? • Quick backup system for large projects

  I've always backed up all my source codes into .zip files and put it in my usb drive and uploaded to my server somewhere else in the world.. however I only do this once every two weeks, because my project is a little big. Right now my project directories (I have a few of them) contains a hierarchy of c++ files in it, and interspersed with them are .o files which would make backing up take a while if not ignored. What tools exist out there that will let me just back things up efficiently, conveniently and lets me specify which file types to back up (lots of .png, .jpg and some text types in there), and which directories to be ignored (esp. the build dirs)? Or is there any ingenious methods out there that people use?

• Is there a way in Sphinx/Pygments to emphasize one or more lines of code in literal includes?

  In some sphinx docs I am writing, I am including code samples from an ancillary file like so: .. literalinclude:: mymodule.py :pyobject: MyClass :linenos: This particular doc is a tutorial, where the classes are build up step by step. What I would like to do is include the entire class or a single method, and emphasize only the lines of interest to that section. That way the context is preserved but the interesting parts are obvious at a glance. Right now I have resorted to just referring to line numbers in the text, which is ok, but far from ideal. Looking at the docs and code for sphinx and pygments I don't find an obvious way to do this. I'm not opposed to patching them or doing something tricky in conf.py, but I wondered if anyone had solved this.

• Random access gzip stream

  I'd like to be able to do random access into a gzipped file. I can afford to do some preprocessing on it (say, build some kind of index), provided that the result of the preprocessing is much smaller than the file itself. Any advice? My thoughts were: Hack on an existing gzip implementation and serialize its decompressor state every, say, 1 megabyte of compressed data. Then to do random access, deserialize the decompressor state and read from the megabyte boundary. This seems hard, especially since I'm working with Java and I couldn't find a pure-java gzip implementation :( Re-compress the file in chunks of 1Mb and do same as above. This has the disadvantage of doubling the required disk space. Write a simple parser of the gzip format that doesn't do any decompressing and only detects and indexes block boundaries (if there even are any blocks: I haven't yet read the gzip format description)

  Hey guys, As a personal project, I'm looking to build a rudimentary DBMS. I've read the relevant sections in Elmasri & Navathe (5ed), but could use a more focused text. The rub is that I want to play with novel non-relational data models. While a lot of E&N was great- indexing implementation details in particular- the more advanced DBMS implementation was only targeted to a relational model. I could also use something a bit more practical and detail-oriented, with real-world recommendations. I'd like to defer staring at DBMS source for a while if I can. Any ideas?

• Inserting non-pod struct into a GHashTable

  Hi there, I'm trying to build a GHashTable of instances of a struct containing ints, a time_t and a few char*'s. My question is, how do you insert an instance of a struct into a GHashTable? there are plenty of examples of how to insert a string or an int (using g_str_hash and g_int_hash respectively), but I'm guessing thatI want to use the g_direct_hash, and I can't seem to find any examples of that. Ideally, my code would look like this: GHashtable table; table = g_hash_table_new(g_direct_hash, g_direct_equal); struct mystruct; mystruct.a = 1; mystruct.b = "hello"; mystruct.c = 5; mystruct.d = "test"; g_hash_table_insert(table,mystruct.a,mystruct); Clearly, this is incorrect as it does not compile.   I'm trying to build a really simple generic toggle functionality where the toggling "switch" has a class of .toggle and then I want it to toggle() the next element that has the class .toggle-content. Example HTML: <p> <a href="#" class="toggle">Toggle the thing</a> </p> <p class="toggle-content hidden">I'm totally hidden right now</p> So right now I'd toggle that with: $(".toggle").click(function() { $(this).parent().next('.toggle-content').toggle(); }); The problem is if the .toggle class is any deeper in the DOM, I have to keep tacking on more parent()'s depending on how deep it is/isn't. So how can I just select the next instance of .toggle-content without having use a bunch of parent()'s and next()'s?

  I'm looking to build a custom view of a Google Maps type of application for providing directions, but I need to blacklist specific roads or sections of roads. I'm not talking just avoiding highways or Toll Roads. I've been looking through the Google Maps and Mapquest APIs but haven't found anything of use yet. Initially I'm just looking to manually blacklist specific roads that I do not want to drive on, but eventually would like there to be some sort of automatic detection or suggestion. Is there built-in functionality to support blacklisting specific roads in Google Maps or Mapquest? Or is there any known way to hack it together?

  I have a table full of bugs. The BugTitle is the page erroring and I also capture the error line. I would like to build an SQL Query that selects the top 10 bugs based on bugtitle and error line. I have this query: SELECT COUNT(BugTitle) AS BugCount, BugTitle, ErrLine FROM Bugs WHERE BugDate >= DateAdd(Day, -30, DateDiff(Day, 0, GetDate())) GROUP BY BugTitle, ErrLine ORDER BY BugCount, ErrLine DESC But I'm not sure if it's correct. I'm pretty sure that my test data only has 1 bug that happens on the same line but that's not showing up with this query. Can anyone help?

• Continuous Integration with Oracle Products

  Hi, I'm currently working on a Datawarehouse project using an Oracle Database, Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle Warehouse Builder and some Jython thrown in for good measure. All of which is held within TFS. My background is .net and prior to this project was seeing a lot of promise in CI. I'm not suggesting that the testing element of CI is feasible in this instance, but I would like to implement a stable deployment strategy. What I'm trying to understand is whether or not I can build some NANT scripts that will allow me to deploy ODI\OWB\Oracle DB code to any given environment at any point. Has anyone tried this before? Are there more appropriate tools out there that lends themselves better to this sort of toolset? Am I just a crazy horse to be evening contemplating this? Any view would be greatly appreciated. • Relative paths in spring classpath resource

  Hi all, I have a bunch of spring config files, all of which live under the META-INF directory in various subpackages. I have been using import like the following... <import resource="../database/schema.xml"/> So a relative path from the source file. This works fine when I am working with a local build outside of a jar file. But when I package everything up in a jar then I get an error that it cannot resolve the URL resource. If I change the above to an absolute path (with classpath:) then it works fine. Is there any way to use relative paths with ".." in when the configs are packaged in a jar or am I restricted to descending relative paths and absolute paths only? Thanks.
