  I initiated myself into rails development yesterday. I installed ruby 1.9.1, rubygems and rails. Running gem install mongrel worked fine and ostensibly installed mongrel too. • Open XML SDK 2 Released

• convert.php does not run in a screen session

  I am trying to convert a big forum. At the moment I have to do this via ssh and start convert.php with "php5 -f convert.php -- $OPTIONS". But my internet connection is a bit buggy and so it is often killed. If i start the above working command in a screen session it does not work. Instead php gives me the HTML code of the "convert.php" back. head of the page: X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.12 Set-Cookie: PHPSESSID=6bc4370b2d8d40ff8c3ab23672ff4135; path=/ Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0 Pragma: no-cache Content-type: text/html Does it has something to do with the Sessions? • Want to load jquery dialog from a different web-page

  I'm a bit of a n00b with jquery so this one is probably an RTFM question: I'm writing an application to create a somewhat complex record for my client. Building the record requires doing a couple of server side searches inside a dialog. Right now I have everything framed up in 1 file (asp.net) and it's ok. But I can see as I add the business logic and the communication with the server this is going to get really ugly. I'm alreay putting most of the javascript in external files, but I'd like to move the HTML for the dialogs out too. How do I get the jquery dialog method to load the dialog body from the html files? Something like: getDialogHTML(dialogHolderDiv); <---magic goes here var dialogOptions = { ... }; $("#"+dialogHolderDiv).dialog(dialogOptions); $("#"+dialogHolderDiv).dialog('open'); any help will be apperciated .

• Issues loading SWF with External SWF Files - using SWFObject and ExternalInterface

  I'm having issues with loading a SWF that references external SWF files... The main SWF loads fine if the HTML file is in the same folder as all the SWFs using the following code: <script type="text/javascript" src="../js/swfobject.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var flashvars = {}; var params = { allowScriptAccess: "always" }; params.quality = "high"; params.wmode = "transparent"; var attributes = {id:"IDofSWF", name:"IDofSWF"}; swfobject.embedSWF("event_so_js.swf", "flashContent", "700", "400", "7.0.0", false, flashvars, params, attributes);</script> </head> <body> <div id="flashContent"> <object data="event_so_js.swf" name="IDofSWF" id="IDofSWF" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="700" height="400"></object></div> But as soon as I move the HTML file out of that folder to the root folder and update the links, it doesn't load correctly - it seems that it's having trouble with the external SWF files. I did have it successfully load one of the external SWF files directly, but it's having trouble with the main SWF. All of the SWF files are in the same folder, so I don't know why it's having issues. • Use ASP.Net server control code generation from .ashx

  I'm trying to take an existing bunch of code that was previously on a full .aspx page, and do the same stuff in a .ashx handler. The code created an HtmlTable object, added rows and cells to those rows, then added that html table the .aspx's controls collection, then added it to a div that was already on the page. I am trying to keep the code in tact but instead of putting the control into a div, actually generate the html and I'll return that in a big chunk of text that can be called via AJAX client-side. HtmlTable errors out when I try to use the InnerHtml property (says it isn't supported), and when I try RenderControl, after making first a TextWriter and next an HtmlTextWriter object, I get the error that Page cannot be null. Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions?

• How to compare sqlite TIMESTAMP values

  I have an Sqlite database in which I want to select rows of which the value in a TIMESTAMP column is before a certain date. I would think this to be simple but I can't get it done. I have tried this: SELECT * FROM logged_event WHERE logged_event.CREATED_AT < '2010-05-28 16:20:55' and various variations on it, like with the date functions. I've read http://sqlite.org/lang_datefunc.html and http://www.sqlite.org/datatypes.html and I would expect that the column would be a numeric type, and that the comparison would be done on the unix timestamp value. Apparantly not. Anyone who can help? If it matters, I'm trying this out in Sqlite Expert Personal.

• Prevent anonymous access to form and application pages in SharePoint 2010

  When you create a Publishing site that has anonymous access enabled, you will notice that anonymous users will not be able to access pages that reside in the “_layouts” virtual directory (e.g. http://siteX/_layouts/viewlsts.aspx). This is because the publishing infrastructure activates a hidden feature that prevents anonymous users from accessing these types of pages. However, if you were to create a site collection based of  Blank Site Template, you would notice that these pages are accessible by anonymous users. The fix is quite simple. There is a hidden feature that you would need to manually activate via stsadm. The feature is called “ViewFormPagesLockDown” (and is available in the Features folders in the 14 hive) To activate it: stsadm -o activatefeature -filename ViewFormPagesLockDown\feature.xml -url http://ServerName Once activated anonymous users will be promoted to enter credentials when they try to access form and application pages.   I am trying to have people be able to open HTML widgets by clicking on a button in my Joomla page. All the widgets are different sizes. The code is entered as HTML in Jumi. Currently I have the action set to: "On click open in new window without browser navigation." The problem is this this always opens in a full screen size with the widget showing up in a corner.   When you get the innerHTML of a DOM node in IE, if there are no spaces in an attribute value, IE will remove the quotes around it, as demonstrated below: <html> <head> <title></title> </head> <body> <div id="div1"><div id="div2"></div></div> <script type="text/javascript"> alert(document.getElementById("div1").innerHTML); </script> </body> </html> In IE, the alert will read: <DIV id=div2></DIV> This is a problem, because I am passing this on to a processor that requires valid XHTML, and all attribute values must be quoted. • How do i handle jcupload and no flash?

  I am using http://www.jcupload.com/ (basic) to upload files. I am considering having a friend write a more custom version or to do magic with ajax; so the solution should be able to work without that. With jcupload i include css, a script and write <div id="jcupload_content"></div> in my html and i am done. Problem is, with no flash i get an object box. Instead i would like is an iframe or a html form to upload the file. How do i do this? Should i detect flash from javascript and overload the div myself if no flash is available? How do i detect if flash is available? with jquery i know i can write something like $('#jcupload_content').innerHtml = blah; How do i handle the flash part?

My server is warning me that line 37 will be deprecated, specifically: #Server error: views/projects/index.html.erb:37: warning: Object#id will be deprecated; use Object#object_id #Views/projects/index.html.erb: 6: <% for project in @projects do %> 36: <%= project.id %> 37: <%= Matching.find_all_by_customer_id_and_project_id( @customer.id, project.id).id %> 38: <%= @customer.id %> Here's my confusion. Line 36 project.id isn't raising a warning, so I assume the issue is that I'm calling ID on the Matching model. Why is it the case that only Matching raising an error and not customer or project?   Hi, this code in my plugin used to work just fine: jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0).getVersion(); and in html... <object id="embedded_obj" type="application/x-versionchecker-1.0.0.1"</object Basically trying to get the properties from an embedded object. But it looks like get(0) is returning an html object instead of the actual embedded object. For example, if I do: var launcher = jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0); for(prop in launcher){ alert(prop + ': ' + launcher[prop]); } ... it alerts things like "getElementByNode," "scrollWidth," "clientLeft," "clientTop" etc. Again this worked before Firefox 3.6. Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

• UIViewController not oreintating. Methods not called

  Greetings, This question does seem to be an ongoing saga in the world of iphone SDK... so heres my contribution... Had two separate projects from the same template... one semi-works, the other not at all... Please let me explain my steps... used this basic GL ES template //iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2008/12/opengl-project-template-for-xcode.html had to sort out some of the 'Release' configuration but otherwises has eveything I need to add orientation to a GL ES project. One my first project, did my stuff, then added these methods.... -(BOOL)shouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation ..... -(void)willRotateToInterfaceOrientation .... -(void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation .... -(void)willAnimateRotationToInterfaceOrientation .... And understand what they do (or are trying to do in my case), the (BOOL)should... gets called once when the view controller is created, and returns 'YES'. But after that none of the other methods are called! So I started from scratch with a blank template (GL ES one from above)...and added minimum to support auto rotation. But this time none of the methods get called! So I investigated .... //developer.apple.com/iphone/library/qa/qa2010/qa1688.html as it said, I added the GLViewController.view first, then added the GLview as subviews of the application delegate. Nothing! Then found this //www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/44993-how-determine-ipad-launch-orientation.html which states to enable orientation notifications [[UIDevice currentDevice] beginGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications]; and then subsequently disable them in the view controller... makes sense...did it, nothing... I think the notifications might be on by default though, since I didn't need to enable them in the first project, yet it still try to verify a orientation (i.e (BOOL)shouldAutoRotate... )... If any one could help me out it would be greatly appreciated as this issue is driving me insane. Thanks in advance. P.S iPad device not out where I am so I cannot test on a device yet. Would be nice for it to work on the simulator.

• How can I highlight empty fields in ASP.NET MVC 2 before model binding has occurred?

  I'm trying to highlight certain form fields (let's call them important fields) when they're empty. In essence, they should behave a bit like required fields, but they should be highlighted if they are empty when the user first GETs the form, before POST & model validation has occurred. The user can also ignore the warnings and submit the form when these fields are empty (i.e. empty important fields won't cause ModelState.IsValid to be false). Ideally it needs to work server-side (empty important fields are highlighted with warning message on GET) and client-side (highlighted if empty when losing focus). I've thought of a few ways of doing this, but I'm hoping some bright spark can come up with a nice elegant solution... Just use a CSS class to flag important fields Update every view/template to render important fields with an important CSS class. Write some jQuery to highlight empty important fields when the DOM is ready and hook their blur events so highlights & warning messages can be shown/hidden as appropriate. Pros: Quick and easy. Cons: Unnecessary duplication of importance flags and warning messages across views & templates. Clients with JavaScript disabled will never see highlights/warnings. Custom data annotation and client-side validator Create classes similar to RequiredAttribute, RequiredAttributeAdapter and ModelClientValidationRequiredRule, and register the adapter with DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider.RegisterAdapter. Create a client-side validator like this that responds to the blur event. Pros: Data annotation follows DRY principle (Html.ValidationMessageFor<T> picks up field importance and warning message from attribute, no duplication). Cons: Must call TryValidateModel from GET actions to ensure empty fields are decorated. Not technically validation (client- & server-side rules don't match) so it's at the mercy of framework changes. Clients with JavaScript disabled will never see highlights/warnings. Clone the entire validation framework It strikes me that I'm trying to achieve exactly the same thing as validation but with warnings rather than errors. It needs to run before model binding (and therefore validation) has occurred. Perhaps it's worth designing a similar framework with annotations like Required, RegularExpression, StringLength, etc. that somehow cause Html.TextBoxFor<T> etc. to render the warning CSS class and Html.ValidationMessageFor<T> to emit the warning message and JSON needed to enable client-side blur checks. Pros: Sounds like something MVC 2 could do with out of the box. Cons: Way too much effort for my current requirement! I'm swaying towards option 1. Can anyone think of a better solution?

• Error calling webservice using JSONP + jquery with IE on remote domain

  I have a .Net webservice on my app server that returns data formatted as JSONP. I have an HTML test client on that server which works fine using IE, Firefox, & Chrome. If I copy the same HTML to my workstation or deploy to my webserver it works with Firefox & Chrome but in IE I'm getting two javascript errors. Message: Object doesn't support this property or method Line: 1 Char: 1 Code: 0 URI: http://mydomain/WebServices/LyrisProxy/Services/Lyris/JSONP/Lyris.asmx/AddUser?lyrisInstance="1"&email="[email protected]"&fullName="My Name"&lyrisList="listname"&format=json&callback=jsonp1274109819864&_=1274109829665 Message: Member not found. Line: 59 Char: 209 Code: 0 URI: http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js I'm kind of at loss as to what to do to fix this.

• jQuery .ajax method in IE7 & IE6 not working but working fine in Firefox

• How to detect if a page is an RSS or ATOM feed

  Hello, I'm currently building a new online Feed Reader in PHP. One of the features i'm working on is feed auto-discovery. If a user enters a website URL, the script will detect that its not a feed and look for the real feed URL by parsing the HTML for the proper tag. The problem is, the way im currently detecting if the URL is a feed or a website only works part of the time, and I know it can't be the best solution. Right now im taking the CURL response and running it through simplexml_load_string, if it can't parse it I treat it as a website. Here is the code. $xml = @simplexml_load_string( $site_found['content'] ); if( !$xml ) // this is a website, not a feed { // handle website } else { // parse feed } Obviously, this isn't ideal. Also, when it runs into an HTML website that it can parse, it thinks its a feed. Any suggestions on a good way of detecting the difference between a feed or non-feed in PHP?
