  Working on a game in the Corona SDK with Lua and I need help so the player animates on the line drawn. Right now he animates at the beggining and the end but not on the line. • Searching Your PL/SQL Source with Oracle SQL Developer

  Version 3.2.1 included a few tweaks along with several hundred bug fixes. One of those tweaks was the addition of ‘ALL_SOURCE’ as a selection for the Type drop down in the Find Database Object panel. Scroll ALL the way down to the bottom Searching the database for your code or objects can be expensive. The ALL_SOURCE view comes in pretty handy when I want to demo how to cancel long running queries or the Task Progress panel – did you know you can manage all of your long running queries here? Yeah, don’t run this I pretty much hosed our demo pod at Open World b/c I ran that same query but added an ORDER BY b.TEXT DESC to the query and blew up the TEMP space and filled the primary partition on the image. Fun stuff. Anyways, where was I going with this? Oh yeah, searching ALL_SOURCE can be expensive. So we took it out of the product for awhile. And now it’s back in. If you select the ‘ALL’ field, it doesn’t actually search EVERYTHING, because that would probably be less than helpful. So if you want to search your PL/SQL objects for a scrap or bit of code, use the ‘ALL_SOURCE’ option in v3.2.1 Double-Click on the search results to go to the code you’re looking for. Be careful what you search for. Just like any query, it could take awhile.

  My boss has been trying to print his e-mails with embedded images, but the images don't print. All we get is a placeholder space where the image should be. Ideally, we'd like to have an option to control whether images get printed or not. I Googled this already and the one solution I found, trying to print the e-mail from the separate window using the print icon, did not work. Edit: also tried the solution here without success. I had him forward a sample e-mail to me, and I printed it fine in my Outlook (same version).

  Hi, I just got a Lexmark x543dn and have some trouble getting my computer to recognize it as a scanner. The printer is working fine from my OS X 10.6 machine, setup was as easy as it gets. I just connected it to my network, gave it a name and added it under that name as a networked printer in OS X. According to the Apple support website, the driver in OS X (I upgraded to the newest drivers already) should also provide scanning capabilities. However when I run the image capture app included in OS X it tells me that there are no scanners available. Can anybody tell me what I have to do to get OS X to recognize the scanner? Thanks, Thomas

  In my opinion the biggest adoption barrier in performance testing on smaller projects is not the tooling but the high infrastructure and administration cost that comes with this phase of testing. Only if a reusable solution was possible and infrastructure management wasn’t as expensive, adoption would certainly spike. It certainly is possible if you bring Visual Studio and Windows Azure into the equation. It is possible to run your test rig in the cloud without getting tangled in SCVMM or Lab Management. All you need is an active Azure subscription, Windows Azure endpoint enabled developer workstation running visual studio ultimate on premise, windows azure endpoint enabled worker roles on azure compute instances set up to run as test controllers and test agents. My test rig is running SQL server 2012 and Visual Studio 2012 RC agents. The beauty is that the solution is reusable, you can open the azure project, change the subscription and certificate, click publish and *BOOM* in less than 15 minutes you could have your own test rig running in the cloud. In this blog post I intend to show you how you can use the power of Windows Azure to effectively abstract the administration cost of infrastructure management and lower the total cost of Load & Performance Testing. As a bonus, I will share a reusable solution that you can use to automate test rig creation for both VS 2010 agents as well as VS 2012 agents. • ubuntu 12.04 not responding after software update

  Yesterday, I did a software update and since then the system became unusable. To be more precise, I login and then I see only the background image without any bars, images etc.. This happened after updating the system. Please find here the relevant part /var/log/apt/history.log. I'm running 64 bit 12.04 distribution on nVidia. The 2-3 first restarts after the upgrade it was complaining about compiz/unity crashes and then the situation is as described above. I would be the most grateful of you could help me on this.   I'm having errors with java left and right, normal java works just fine. It's things that use the internet for certificates and java .jnpl. I've tried Minecraft classic, it gives me a error, canirunit, error, Carnegie learning, error. I've switched browsers and still have these errors. everything is broken I've turned on ask me for unsigned certificates instead of blocking it and it doesn't pop-up.   I recently had a question come up on one of my previous blog articles about downloading a specific video rendition.  When accessing image renditions, you simply need to pass in the 'Rendition=<rendition name>' parameter on the GET_FILE service and it will be returned.  But when you try that with videos, you get the error message, "Unable to download '<Content ID>'. The rendition or attachment '<Rendition Name>' could not be found in the list manifest of the revision with internal revision ID '<dID>'. Through the interface, it exposes the ability to download, but utilizes the Content Basket to bundle one or more videos and download them as a zip.   I had never tried this with videos, but thought they had worked the same way.  Well, it turns out you need to pass in an extra parameter in the case of videos.  So if you pass in parameter of 'AuxRenditionType=media', that will allow the GET_FILE service to download the video (e.g. http://server/cs/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&dID=11012&dDocName=WCCBASE9010812&allowInterrupt=1 &Rendition=QuickTime&AuxRenditionType=media).  And if you haven't seen the David After Dentist video, I'd highly recommend it!

• creating proper vpn tunnel, when both LANs have the same addressing

  I was following this tutorial http://wiki.debian.org/OpenVPN#TLS-enabled_VPN and this one http://users.telenet.be/mydotcom/howto/linux/openvpn.htm to create openvpn connection to my remote LAN. But both examples assumed that both LANs have different addresses (ie 192.168.10.0/24 and 192.168.20.0/24, check out this image i.stack.imgur.com/2eUSm.png). Unfortunately in my case both local and remote lan have 192.168.1.0/24 addresses. I am able to connect directly on the openvpn server (I can ping it and log in with ssh), but I can't see other devices on the remote LAN (not mentioning accessing them via browser which was the point from the first place). And don't know if the addressing issue may be the reason of that? If not - how to define routes, so I could ping other devices in remote LAN?

• Debian Squeeze locale settings

  I have a problem with a slightly customised Debian image that I'm trying to do some headless work on. The problem is that the installed locales list has been reduced to this: C en_GB en_GB.iso88591 en_GB.iso885915 en_GB.utf8 POSIX However, when I log in as root (with an otherwise as-vanilla profile), I find this: ~# set | grep LC_ LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 That's the only LC_ environment variable set, and presumably that means that it's being explicitly set somewhere (and given that /etc/default/locale only contains LANG=en_GB, I can't see any other alternative). However, I can't see where it is being set, and the fact that it's wrong is preventing, for example, postgresql-8.4 from installing. I know I can do an LC_CTYPE=en_GB apt-get install postgresql-8.4 to work around this, but I'd really like to understand where this setting comes from, and I really dislike the idea of installing an otherwise-unnecessary locale to make this go away. So: where does this LC_CTYPE setting come from, and how do I make it go away?

  Hello. I am trying to install the vhds (virtual hard drive image) of IE6 on XP and IE 7 on XP packs available from Microsoft on Virtual Box. Virtual Box will only mount CD/DVD's and/or ISO's. How do I get it to use the Microsoft files? I need this to test web pages in IE6/IE7s. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Is there a way to do this, or another way that will allow me to load XP/IE6 and XP/IE7 in Virtualbox Edit: Ok I got it to work but it says XP must be updated in 3 days due to hardware changes. Microsoft said this would be activated til January 1st 2010. Is there a way to bypass that?

  In a fast-paced multiplayer game I'm working on, there is an issue with the interpolation algorithm. You can see it clearly in the image below.   In an industry segment that nobody is ever 'asleep', I suppose no time is a good time to take SQL Server down for upgrades, and I had forgotten that my host was going to be doing that. Last night about 9pm (Arizona), in the middle of working on a blog post, things started going wonky and I finally realized everything was ok except for SQL Server. I turned in a ticket on it and was reminded about the maintenance schedule... guess I file those away in memory and just assume they'll happen while I'm asleep :) So, looking at the schedule, it appears that SQL Server for SilverlightCream is going to be down tonight. Minimum is 9-12pm Arizona time... mileage and time may vary. Since all the posts are run through SC to get the Skim count, having SQL down sucks, but I'd rather we got maintenance than have to react to a crash because of something that wasn't maintained. I'll try to get the next 'Cream post out early so that the bulk of folks can dig through it prior to the outage. Meanwhile, for those of you in Phoenix, tonight is our Phoenix Silverlight User Group April meeting, and Joel Neubeck is going to be giving us the run-through on Windows Phone 7! We're not as advanced as those MVP rock-stars in California like Victor Gaudioso who streams his user group meeting, so you'll just have to show up for the goodness! At the end of the semester, the PCs will be full of viruses, corrupt system files, all sorts of illegal downloads etc. (everything you can expect from a student environment). At the end of the semester, we would like to wipe out all the systems and do a clean install (WindowsXP + a set of application suites) to get ready for the next batch of students. Because we’re hoping to have some new offerings soon (stay tuned with VoX to see what’s in the pipeline around Fusion Applications design patterns), now is a good time to talk more about what design patterns can do for the individual user as well as the entire company. George Hackman, Senior Director of Operations User Experience, says the first thing to note is that user experience is not just about the user interface. It’s about understanding how people do things, observing them, and then finding the patterns that emerge. The Applications UX team develops those patterns and then builds them into Oracle applications. What emerges, Hackman says, is a consistent, efficient user experience that promotes a productive workplace. Creating design patterns What is a design pattern in the context of enterprise software? “Every day, people use technology to get things done,” Hackman says. “They navigate a virtual world that reaches from enterprise to consumer apps, and from desktop to mobile. This virtual world is constantly under construction. New areas are being developed and old areas are being redone. As this world is being built and remodeled, efficient pathways and practices emerge. “Oracle's user experience team watches users navigate this world. We measure their productivity and ask them about their satisfaction. We take the most efficient, most productive pathways from the enterprise and consumer world and turn them into Oracle's user experience patterns.” Hackman describes the process as combining all of the best practices from every part of a user’s world. Members of the user experience team observe, analyze, design, prototype, and measure each work task to find the best possible pattern for a particular work flow. As the team builds the patterns, “we make sure they are fully buildable using Oracle technology,” Hackman said. “So customers know they can use these patterns. There’s no need to make something up from scratch, not knowing whether you can even build it.” Hackman says that creating something on a computer is a good example of a user experience pattern. “People are creating things all the time,” he says. “On the consumer side, they are creating documents. On the enterprise side, they are creating expense reports. On a mobile phone, they are creating contacts. They are using different apps like iPhone or Facebook or Gmail or Oracle software, all doing this creation process.” The Applications UX team starts their process by observing how people might create something. “We observe people creating things. We see the patterns, we analyze and document, then we apply them to our products. It might be different from phone to web browser, but we have these design patterns that create a consistent experience across platforms, and across products, too. The result for customers Oracle constantly improves its part of the virtual world, Hackman said. New products are created and existing products are upgraded. Because Oracle builds user experience design patterns, Oracle's virtual world becomes both more powerful and more familiar at the same time. Because of design patterns, users can navigate with ease as they embrace the latest technology – because it behaves the way they expect it to. This means less training and faster adoption for individual users, and more productivity for the business as a whole. Hackman said Oracle gives customers and partners access to design patterns so that they can build in the virtual world using the same best practices. Customers and partners can extend applications with a user experience that is comfortable and familiar to their users. For businesses that are integrating different Oracle applications, design patterns are key. The user experience created in E-Business Suite should be similar to the user experience in Fusion Applications, Hackman said. If a user is transitioning from one application to the other, it shouldn’t be difficult for them to do their work. With design patterns, it isn’t. “Oracle user experience patterns are the building blocks for the virtual world that ensure productivity, consistency and user satisfaction,” Hackman said. “They are built for the enterprise, but incorporate the best practices from across the virtual world. They empower productivity and facilitate social interaction. When you build with patterns, you get all the end-user benefits of less training / retraining from the finished product.
