• How do I add a header to a VB.NET 2008 SOAP request? [migrated]

  I have a VB.NET 2008 program that accesses a Siebel web service defined by a WSDL and using the SOAP protocol. The Siebel web service requires that a header containing the username, password and session type be included with the service request, but the header is not defined in the WSDL. So, when I test the WSDL using the soapUI utility, the request as defined by the WSDL looks like this: <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:lov="http://www.siebel.com/xml/LOVService" xmlns:lis="http://www.siebel.com/xml/ListQuery"> <soapenv:Header/> <soapenv:Body> <lov:EAILOVGetListOfValues_Input> <lis:ListsQuery> <lis:ListQuery> <lis:Active>Y</lis:Active> <lis:LanguageCode>ENU</lis:LanguageCode> <lis:Type>CUT_ACCOUNT_TYPE</lis:Type> </lis:ListQuery> </lis:ListsQuery> </lov:EAILOVGetListOfValues_Input> </soapenv:Body> </soapenv:Envelope> But the above does not work because it contains an empty header that is missing user and session credentials. I have no problem importing the WSDL into Visual Studio 2008, defining the service in VB code and referencing the web service methods. However, I cannot sort out how to define the web service in VB such that the updated header in included in the web service request instead of the empty header. Consequently all my service requests from VB fail. I can define a class that inherits from the SoapHeader class... Public Class MySoapHeader : Inherits System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHeader Public Username As String Public Password As String Public SessionType As String End Class ...but how do I include this header in the SOAP request made from VB?

• I need help with 2D collision response (of stacking rotating polygons, with friction and gravity, for a game)

  Hi I am looking for suggestions on how to write a collision response for game programming purpose (so not a scientific simulation). I am dealing with 2D polygons that are rotating, and I want them to be able to stack. I also want friction and gravity. I have a detection mechanism that returns the separating axis, how long the polygons are overlapping, and up to 2 points of contact. For the response, I am currently using an impulse-based response, which main idea is: find the separating axis, length of overlap, and the point of contact (if there are two, pick a random point between to simulate averaged force. i believe there are better ways than this) separate the object (modifying their positions, taking into account of their masses. i do not separate them completely though, to keep track that they are colliding to reduce jitter) calculate normal force based on the coefficient of restitution as if there is no friction. calculate friction, as if there is no normal force. I also assume that the direction of the friction is the same throughout the collision. apply the two forces (which result in a rather inaccurate result, since each force is calculated as if the other is not present. for non-rotating bodies though, this method is exact) I am aware that this method requires the coefficient of friction to be sufficiently small due to the assumption that the direction of friction stays the same in a collision. Also, the result is visually satisfying if gravity is not present. However, when there is gravity, objects on ground jitter and drift (even with zero coefficient of restitution)! It also happens for stacking objects. Larger coefficient of restitution and gravity increase the jittering. I hope you can help me with this. Some things i would like to know more about is how to handle collision with two point of contacts (how to end up having an object sitting still on the ground?), how to reduce, and prevent if possible, jitter and drift (do people use the most accurate method possible, or is there a trick to overcome this?), and how to handle multiple objects collision (for example, in the case of stacking objects, how do I check collisions between all of them and keep them all stable at every frame so they don't jitter?). A total reformulation of my algorithm is also welcomed, as long as it works. Another thing to note is that I am not making a Physics game, so I only need a visually satisfying response (though a realistic response is preferable, if it is not performance-heavy). But surely jittering and drifting objects on flat ground are not at all acceptable. In addition, I am a Physics student, so feel free to talk about impulse and whatever needed. Finally, I'm sorry for the long post. I tried to be as concise as I can. Thank you for reading it! EDIT It seems what I didn't manage to come up all this time is to separate resting contact as a class of its own and how to solve them. Currently reading the paper suggested by Jedediah. • 'EditItem' is not allowed for this view - databinding issue

  Hi, I am trying to do data binding in WPF on data grid using a cutom list. My custom list class contains a private data list of type List. I can not expose this list however the indexers are exposed for seeting and getting individual items. My custom class looks like this: public abstract class TestElementList<T> : IEnumerable where T : class { protected List<T> Data { get; set; } public virtual T Get(int index) { T item = Data[index]; return item; } public virtual void Set(int index, T item) { Data[index] = item; } ... } The data is binded but when I try to edit it, i get "'EditItem' is not allowed for this view." Error. On doing extensive searching over web, I found that i might need to implement IEditableCollectionView interface also. Can anybody please help me to either give pointers on how to implement this interface or any suggest any other better way to do databinding on custom list. Thanks in advance.

  In Silverlight project I have this exception when I tried to Add a new object to a DataGrid when a button is clicked. In the DomainService class.. I know I have to implement the Add operation for the new Entity I'm putting, but how can I do that? • ASP.NET MVC returning ContentResult using Ajax form - how to preserve whitespace?

  In my application users can enter commands that are executed on the server. The results are added to a session object. I then stuff the session object into ViewData and add it to a textarea. When done with a standard HTML form whitespace is preserved. However, when I swap this out for an ajax form (Ajax.BeginForm) and return the result as ContentResult, the whitespace is removed. • Spring 3.0 making JSON response using jackson message converter

  i configure my messageconverter as Jackson's then class Foo{int x; int y} and in controller @ResponseBody public Foo method(){ return new Foo(3,4) } from that i m expecting to return a JSON string {x:'3',y:'4'} from server without any other configuration. but getting 404 error response to my ajax request If the method is annotated with @ResponseBody, the return type is written to the response HTTP body. The return value will be converted to the declared method argument type using HttpMessageConverters. • Rendering a UIWebView in drawRect with loadHTMLString

  Hello there, I am having a problem with UIWebView. I'd like to render my own html code in it. When I add a webview as a subview and put in some html code it renders just fine. When it gets down to some optimized drawing of tableview cell with the drawRect method the problem pops up. Drawing UIView descendants works pretty well this way. It's even possible to load a URL with the loadRequest method, setting the delegate, conforming to the UIWebViewDelegate protocol and redrawing the table cell with setNeedsDisplay when webViewDidFinishLoad is called. It does show, but when it comes to loadHTMLString, nothing shows up, only a white rect. Due to performance reasons I have to do the drawing in the drawRect method. Any ideas? • Entity Framework 4 Code First and the new() Operator

  I have a rather deep hierarchy of objects that I'm trying to persist with Entity Framework 4, POCO, PI (Persistence Ignorance) and Code First. Suddenly things started working pretty well when it dawned on me to not use the new() operator. As originally written, the objects frequently use new() to create child objects. Instead I'm using my take on the Repository Pattern to create all child objects as needed. For example, given: class Adam { List<Child> children; void AddChildGivenInput(string input) { children.Add(new Child(...)); } } class Child { List<GrandChild> grandchildren; void AddGrandChildGivenInput(string input) { grandchildren.Add(new GrandChild(...)); } } class GrandChild { } ("GivenInput" implies some processing not shown here) I define an AdamRepository like: class AdamRepository { Adam Add() { return objectContext.Create<Adam>(); } Child AddChildGivenInput(Adam adam, string input) { return adam.children.Add(new Child(...)); } GrandChild AddGrandchildGivenInput(Child child, string input) { return child.grandchildren.Add(new GrandChild(...)); } } Now, this works well enough. However, I'm no longer "ignorant" of my persistence mechanism as I have abandoned the new() operator. Additionally, I'm at risk of an anemic domain model since so much logic ends up in the repository rather than in the domain objects. After much adieu, a question: Or rather several questions... Is this pattern required to work with EF 4 Code First? Is there a way to retain use of new() and still work with EF 4 / POCO / Code First? Is there another pattern that would leave logic in the domain object and still work with EF 4 / POCO / Code First? Will this restriction be lifted in later versions of Code First support? Sometimes trying to go the POCO / Persistence Ignorance route feels like swimming upstream, other times it feels like swimming up Niagra Falls.

It seems that there are three steps to accomplish this: Change to in the endpoint's tag Decorate the method with [WebInvoke(ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)] Add an incantation of [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)] to the service contract This is all working OK for me - I can pass in and am being returned nice plain JSON. If I remove the WebInvoke attribute, then I get XML returned instead, so it is certainly doing what it is supposed to do. But it strikes me as odd that the option to specify JSON output appears here and not in the configuration file. Say I wanted to expose my method as an XML endpoint too - how would I do this? Currently the only way I can see would be to have a second method that does exactly the same thing but does not have WebMethodFormat.Json specified. Then rinse and repeat for every method in my service? Yuck. Specifying that the output should be serialized to JSON in the attribute seems to be completely contrary to the philosophy of WCF, where the service is implemented is a transport and encoding agnostic manner, leaving the nasty details of how the data will be moved around to the configuration file. Is there a better way of doing what I want to do? Or are we stuck with this awkward attribute? Or do I not understanding WCF deeply enough?

  I'm trying to use a new class in SqlCe 3.5 SP2 called SqlCeChangeTracking. This class (allegedly) lets you turn on change tracking on a table, without using RDA replication or Sync Services. Assuming you have an open SqlCeConnection, you enable change tracking on a table like this: SqlCeChangeTracking tracker = new SqlCeChangeTracking(conn); tracker.EnableTracking(TableName, TrackingKeyType.PrimaryKey, TrackingOptions.All); This appears to work, sort of. When I open the SDF file and view it in SQL Server Management Studio, the table has three additional fields: __sysChangeTxBsn, __sysInsertTxBsn and __sysTrackingContext. According to the sparse documentation, these columns (along with the __sysOCSDeletedRows system table) are used to track changes. The problem is that these three columns always contain NULL values for all rows, no matter what I do. I can add, delete, edit etc. and those columns remain NULL no matter what (and no deleted records ever show up in __sysOCSDeletedRows). I have found virtually no documentation on this class at all, and the promised MSDN API appears non-existent. Anybody know how to use this class?

  I have several User Controls in a project, and one of them retrieves items from an XML, creates objects of the type "ClassItem" and should notify the other UserControl information about those items. I have created a class for my object (the "model" all items will have): public class ClassItem { public int Id { get; set; } public string Type { get; set; } } I have another class that is used to notify the other User Controls when an object of the type "ClassItem" is created: public class Class2: INotifyPropertyChanged { // Properties public ObservableCollection<ClassItem> ItemsCollection { get; internal set; } // Events public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; // Methods public void ShowItems() { ItemsCollection = new ObservableCollection<ClassItem>(); if (PropertyChanged != null) { PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs("ItemsCollection")); } } } The data comes from an XML file that is parsed in order to create the objects of type ClassItem: void DisplayItems(string xmlContent) { XDocument xmlItems = XDocument.Parse(xmlContent); var items = from item in xmlItems.Descendants("item") select new ClassItem{ Id = (int)item.Element("id"), Type = (string)item.Element("type) }; } If I'm not mistaken, this is supposed to parse the xml and create a ClassItem object for each item it finds in the XML. Hence, each time a new ClassItem object is created, this should fire the Notifications for all the UserControls that are "bind" to the "ItemsCollection" notifications defined in Class2. Yet the code in Class2 doesn't even seem to be run :-( and there are no notifications of course... Am I mistaken in any of the assumptions I've done, or am I missing something?   Hi, It should be possible to add a code behind file for a resource dictionary in Silverlight, but I keep getting the same error, thrown from the InitializeComponent method of my App.xaml constructor: XamlParseException: AG_E_PARSER_BAD_TYPE. The resource dictionary xaml file looks like this: <ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="Celerior.Annapurna.SL.ProvisiorResourceDictionary" x:ClassModifier="public"> ... </ResourceDictionary> If I remove the x:Class attribute everything works fine again (of course, I double-checked the class name and it's correct).
