  I have a type Foo with a constructor that takes an Int. How do I define an implicit Arbitrary for Foo to be used with scalacheck? implicit def arbFoo: Arbitrary[Foo] = ??? I came up with the following solution, but it's a bit too "manual" and low-level for my taste: val fooGen = for (i <- Gen.choose(Int.MinValue, Int.MaxValue)) yield new Foo(i) implicit def arbFoo: Arbitrary[Foo] = Arbitrary(fooGen) Ideally, I would want a higher-order function where I just have to plug in an Int => Foo function. I managed to cut it down to: implicit def arbFoo = Arbitrary(Gen.resultOf((i: Int) => new Foo(i))) But I still feel like there has got to be a slightly simpler way.

• Hidden Input Elements in Firefox

  I'm having troubles with fckeditor in Firefox. When the user goes to a page, the html (encoded) is stored in a hidden input element. I call the predefined fckeditor javascript event to populate my editor with the html from the hidden ContentBody element. function FCKeditor_OnComplete( editorInstance ) { editorInstance.InsertHtml(""); var sample = document.getElementById("ContentBody").value; editorInstance.InsertHtml(sample); } This automatically populates the editor with the desired text in IE, but in Firefox it doesn't.   I've got multiple divs, each with an ordered list (various lengths). I'm using jquery to add a class to each list item according to its index (for the purpose of columnizing portions of each list).   We are having some difficulties connecting our Java SE standalone client with the EJB module deployed on a remote GlassFish server. Pointers to how we are supposed to connect our client would be appreciated.   I have a program in C using Solaris with VERY ancient compatibility it seems. Many examples, even here on SO, don't work, as well as lots of code I've written on Mac OS X. So when using very strict C, what is the safest way to pass strings? I'm currently using char pointers all over the place, due to what I thought was simplicity. So I have functions that return char*, I'm passing char* to them, etc. I'm already seeing strange behavior, like a char* I passed having its value right when I enter a function, and then the value being mysteriously gone OR corrupted/overwritten after something simple like one printf() or an malloc to some other pointer. I was thinking maybe declaring a local char[] inside each function, using strcpy() immediately, and then eventually returning a pointer where char *returnval = strdup(localchar[]); This seems...sloppy. Can anyone point me in the right direction on a simple requirement?

  What is the most efficient way to split a string by a very simple separator? Some background: I am porting a function I wrote in C with a bunch of pointer arithmetic to java and it is incredibly slow(After some optimisation still 5* slower). Having profiled it, it turns out a lot of that overhead is in String.split The function in question takes a host name or ip address and makes it generic: 123.123.123.123-*.123.123.123 a.b.c.example.com-*.example.com This can be run over several million items on a regular basis, so performance is an issue.

  I have a PHP script that outputs an array of data. This is then transformed into JSON using the json_encode() function. My issue is I have a date within my array and its is not in the correct javascript format.   I've come up with an alternative for beziers that might be easier to ray-trace, perhaps even though a plain vertex shader. Though there's missing a piece. I need to find the parametric surface equation from the surface normals I have for edge vertices. I also have to know it's peak and valley so I can constraint the depth of my bounding triangle. Image explains the overall idea: I build a bounding-volume from a control triangle. Then apply a function to each parametric coordinate of the triangle (s+t+u=1 where s,t,u = 0) to get the height coordinate for that certain point. Simply put, it produces a procedurally generated height-map for the triangle's surface. I just need to find a function that generates the height-map so I can make it work.

  I'm trying to filter button events based on whether they have a CSS class assigned to them or not. Assume I have a button like this: <button id="save-button" class="ui-state-default ui-corner-all">Save</button> I want to get jQuery to select all buttons that currently do not have a class of "ui-state-disabled". The selector I'm using looks like this: $('#save-button:not(.ui-state-disabled)').click(function() { ... }); When the button is clicked, I'll call a different function, do some stuff and then add the class 'ui-state-disabled' to the button. However the button still continues to accept click events. I'm guessing this is because of two possible causes: The event binder looks only at the initial state when binding the click event and doesn't recognise that a new class has been added later on My filter ['... :not(.ui-state-disabled)] is not correct Any observations?

In C#, if I had a widget definition, say: class widget { public string PrettyName() { ... do stuff here } } and I wanted to allow for easy printing of a list of Widgets, I might do this: namespace ExtensionMethods { public static PrintAll( this IEnumerable<Widget> widgets, TextWriter writer ) { foreach(var w in widgets) { writer.WriteLine( w.PrettyName() ) } } } How would I accomplish something similar with a record type and a collection (List or Seq preferrably in F#). I'd love to have a list of Widgest and be able to call a function right on the collection that did something like this. Assume (since it's F#) that the function would not be changing the state of the collection that it's attached to, but returning some new value.

• IE7 not digesting JSON: "parse error"

  While trying to GET a JSON, my callback function is NOT firing. $.ajax({ type:"GET", dataType:'json', url: myLocalURL, data: myData, success: function(returned_data){alert('success');} }); The strangest part of this is that my JSON(s) validates on JSONlint this ONLY fails on IE7...it works in Safari, Chrome, and all versions of Firefox. If I use 'error', then it reports "parseError"...even though it validates! Is there anything that I'm missing? Does IE7 not process certain characters, data structures (my data doesn't have anything non-alphanumeric, but it DOES have nested JSONs)? I have used tons of other AJAX calls that all work (even in IE7), but with the exception of THIS call. An example data return here is: {"question":{ "question_id":"19", "question_text":"testing", "other_crap":"none" }, "timestamp":{ "response":"answer", "response_text":"the text here" } } I am completely at a loss.   I am building an application where the user browses certain objects by scrolling and zooming. To change the zoom level I have successfully implemented a "dijit.form.HorizontalSlider" object. Every time the user changes the position of the silder, I can catch the "onChange" call and do something with that. However, the user can also zoom-in by double clicking inside the view zone, at which point the slider should change position automatically to reflect the new zoom level. My question is the following: what function or method should I call in my javascript to update the position of a dojo silder ?
