  • How do I drop a foerign key in mssql?

    - by mmattax
I have created a foreign key (in mssql / tsql) by: alter table company add CountryID varchar(3); alter table company add constraint Company_CountryID_FK foreign key(CountryID) references Country; I then run this query: alter table company drop column CountryID; and I get this error: Msg 5074, Level 16, State 4, Line 2 The object 'Company_CountryID_FK' is dependent on column 'CountryID'. Msg 4922, Level 16, State 9, Line 2 ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN CountryID failed because one or more objects access this column. I have tried this, yet it does not seem to work: alter table company drop foreign key Company_CountryID_FK; alter table company drop column CountryID; What do I need to do to drop the CountryID column? Thanks.

  • Alter multiple tables' columns length

    - by gdoron
So, we just found out that 254 tables in our Oracle DBMS have one column named "Foo" with the wrong length- Number(10) instead of Number(3). That foo column is a part from the PK of the tables. Those tables have other tables with forigen keys to it. What I did is: backed-up the table with a temp table. Disabled the forigen keys to the table. Disabled the PK with the foo column. Nulled the foo column for all the rows. Restored all the above But now we found out it's not just couple of tables but 254 tables. Is there an easy way, (or at least easier than this) to alter the columns length? P.S. I have DBA permissions.

  • How to check with PHP does a SQL database already have

    - by Dan Horvat
I've tried to find the answer to this question but none of the answers fit. I have two databases, one has 15.000.000 entries and I want to extract the necessary data and store it in a much smaller database with around 33.000 entries. Both databases are open at the same time. Or at least they should be. While having the big database open and extracting the entries from it, is it possible to check whether the value already exists in the smaller database? I just need some generic way which checks that.

  • c# finding matching words in table column using Linq2Sql

    - by David Liddle
I am trying to use Linq2Sql to return all rows that contain values from a list of strings. The linq2sql class object has a string property that contains words separated by spaces. public class MyObject { public string MyProperty { get; set; } } Example MyProperty values are: MyObject1.MyProperty = "text1 text2 text3 text4" MyObject2.MyProperty = "text2" For example, using a string collection, I pass the below list var list = new List<>() { "text2", "text4" } This would return both items in my example above as they both contain "text2" value. I attempted the following using the below code however, because of my extension method the Linq2Sql cannot be evaluated. public static IQueryable<MyObject> WithProperty(this IQueryable<MyProperty> qry, IList<string> p) { return from t in qry where t.MyProperty.Contains(p, ' ') select t; } I also wrote an extension method public static bool Contains(this string str, IList<string> list, char seperator) { if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(str) || list == null) return false; var splitStr = str.Split(new char[] { seperator }, StringSplitOptions.RemoveEmptyEntries); foreach (string s in splitStr) foreach (string l in list) if (String.Compare(s, l, true) == 0) return true; return false; } Any help or ideas on how I could achieve this?

  • What does DataContext.GetTable<TEntry> do?

    - by Bryan
Consider I have a DataContext db, and there is an Entity class User. So when System.Data.Linq.Table<User> table = db.GetTable<User>(); is called for the first time, does it pull the data from the database immediately, does it use deferred execution, or were the data already loaded from database when db was initialized?

  • iBatis how to solve a more complex N+1 problem

    - by Alvin
I have a database that is similar to the following: create table Store(storeId) create table Staff(storeId_fk, staff_id, staffName) create table Item(storeId_fk, itme_id, itemName) The Store table is large. And I have create the following java bean public class Store { List<Staff> myStaff List<Item> myItem .... } public class Staff { ... } public class Item { ... } My question is how can I use iBatis's result map to EFFICIENTLY map from the tables to the java object? I tried: <resultMap id="storemap" class="my.example.Store"> <result property="myStaff" resultMap="staffMap"/> <result property="myItem" result="itemMap"/> </resultMap> (other maps omitted) But it's way too slow since the Store table is VERY VERY large. I tried to follow the example in Clinton's developer guide for the N+1 solution, but I cannot warp my mind around how to use the "groupBy" for an object with 2 list... Any help is appreciated!

  • Deleting partial data from a field in MySQL

    - by Graham
I am trying to remove a specific set of data from a MySQL database field, however I am not sure what the best statement would be for this. For example, if I have a data in a field such as... The use of a secondary password will allow you to gain access to your account from a non-authenticated computer. A non-authenticated computer is any computer that is not your primary computer, an elected authenticated computer or a computer that automatically deletes cookies. <p>This is a test</p> ...and I want to remove <p>This is a test</p> from the field, what statement would be best?

  • How do I choose a database?

    - by liamzebedee
I need a comparison table of some sort for database varieties (MySQL, SQLite etc.). I can't find one. My use case is, I am implementing storage of objects in a distributed hash table. I need a database solution that is: Fast for sorting Simplistic (no users, preferably no additional structures like multiple tables etc.) Concurrent (if possible) Multi-platform File based (not stored in memory primarily) Centralized I will be programming in Go. As I understand, I believe I need what is called a Document Orientated Database, because I am storing objects, identified by keys. EDIT: While I am implementing a DHT, I will also be storing metadata about the objects, such as access counts etc. It would also be preferable to have TLL (time to live)

  • How do I create a multiple-table check constraint?

    - by Zack Peterson
Please imagine this small database... Diagram Tables Volunteer Event Shift EventVolunteer ========= ===== ===== ============== Id Id Id EventId Name Name EventId VolunteerId Email Location VolunteerId Phone Day Description Comment Description Start End Associations Volunteers may sign up for multiple events. Events may be staffed by multiple volunteers. An event may have multiple shifts. A shift belongs to only a single event. A shift may be staffed by only a single volunteer. A volunteer may staff multiple shifts. Check Constraints Can I create a check constraint to enforce that no shift is staffed by a volunteer that's not signed up for that shift's event? Can I create a check constraint to enforce that two overlapping shifts are never staffed by the same volunteer?

  • MSSQL - Select one random record not showing duplicates

    - by Lukes123
I have two tables, events and photos, which relate together via the 'Event_ID' column. I wish to select ONE random photo from each event and display them. How can I do this? I have the following which displays all the photos which are associated. How can I limit it to one per event? SELECT Photos.Photo_Id, Photos.Photo_Path, Photos.Event_Id, Events.Event_Title, Events.Event_StartDate, Events.Event_EndDate FROM Photos, Events WHERE Photos.Event_Id = Events.Event_Id AND Events.Event_EndDate < GETDATE() AND Events.Event_EndDate IS NOT NULL AND Events.Event_StartDate IS NOT NULL ORDER BY NEWID() Thanks Luke Stratton

  • How do I do proximity search in Oracle right?

    - by hko19
Oracle's NEAR operator for full text search returns a score based on the proximity of two or more query terms. For example: near((dog, bite), 6) matches if 'dog' and 'bite' occurs within 6 words. What if I'd like it to match if either 'dog' or 'cat' or any other type of animal occurs within 6 words of the word 'bite'? I tried: near(((dog OR cat OR animal), bite), 6) but I got: NEAR operand not a phrase, equivalence or another NEAR expression Rather than expanding all possible combination into multiple NEAR and 'or' them together, what is the proper way to write such query?

  • jpa join query on a subclass

    - by Brian
I have the following relationships in JPA (hibernate). Object X has two subclasses, Y and Z. Object A has a manyToOne relationship to object X. (Note, this is a one-sided relationship so object X cannot see object A). Now, I want to get the max value of a column in object A, but only where the relationship is of a specific subtype, ie...Y. So, that equates to...get the max value of column1 in object A, across all instances of A where they have a relationship with Y. Is this possible? I'm a bit lost as how to query it. I was thinking of something like: String query = "SELECT MAX(a.columnName) FROM A a join a.x; Query query = super.entityManager.createQuery(query); query.execute(); However that doesn't take account of the subclass of X...so I'm a bit lost. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Query a recordset

    - by Dion
    I'm trying to work out how to move the $sql_pay_det query outside of the $sql_pay loop (so in effect query on $rs_pay_det rather than creating a new $rs_pay_det for each iteration of the loop) At the moment my code looks like: //Get payroll transactions $sql_pay = 'SELECT Field1, DescriptionandURLlink, Field5, Amount, Field4, PeriodName FROM tblgltransactionspayroll WHERE CostCentreCode = "'.$cc.'" AND SubjectiveCode = "'.$subj.'" AND PeriodNo = "'.$month.'"'; $rs_pay = mysql_query($sql_pay); $row_pay = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs_pay); while($row_pay = mysql_fetch_array($rs_pay)) { $employee_name = $row_pay['Field1']; $assign_no = $row_pay['DescriptionandURLlink']; $pay_period = $row_pay['Field5']; $mth_name = $row_pay['PeriodName']; $amount = $row_pay['Amount']; $total_amount = $total_amount + $amount; $amount = my_number_format($amount, 2, ".", ","); $sql_pay_det = 'SELECT ElementDesc, Amount, WTEWorked, WTEPaid, WTEContract, Payscale FROM tblpayrolldetail WHERE CostCentreCode = "'.$cc.'" AND SubjectiveCode = "'.$subj.'" AND AccountingPeriod = "'.$mth_name.'" AND EmployeeRef = "'.$assign_no.'"'; $rs_pay_det = mysql_query($sql_pay_det); $row_pay_det = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs_pay_det); while($row_pay_det = mysql_fetch_array($rs_pay_det)) { $element_det = $row_pay_det['ElementDesc']; $amount_det = $row_pay_det['Amount']; $wte_worked = $row_pay_det['WTEWorked']; $wte_paid = $row_pay_det['WTEPaid']; $wte_cont = $row_pay_det['WTEContract']; $payscale = $row_pay_det['Payscale']; //Get band/point and annual salary where element is basic pay if ($element_det =="3959#Basic Pay"){ $sql_payscale = 'SELECT txtPayscaleName, Salary FROM tblpayscalemapping WHERE txtPayscale = "'.$payscale.'"'; $rs_payscale = mysql_query($sql_payscale); $row_payscale = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs_payscale); $grade = $row_payscale['txtPayscaleName']; $salary = "£" . my_number_format($row_payscale['Salary'], 0, ".", ","); } } } I've tried doing this: //Get payroll transactions $sql_pay = 'SELECT Field1, DescriptionandURLlink, Field5, Amount, Field4, PeriodName FROM tblgltransactionspayroll WHERE CostCentreCode = "'.$cc.'" AND SubjectiveCode = "'.$subj.'" AND PeriodNo = "'.$month.'"'; $rs_pay = mysql_query($sql_pay); $row_pay = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs_pay); //Get payroll detail recordset $sql_pay_det = 'SELECT ElementDesc, Amount, WTEWorked, WTEPaid, WTEContract, Payscale, EmployeeRef FROM tblpayrolldetail WHERE CostCentreCode = "'.$cc.'" WHERE EmployeeRef = "'.$assign_no.'"'; $rs_pay_det2 = mysql_query($sql_pay_det2); $row_pay_det2 = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs_pay_det2); while($row_pay_det = mysql_fetch_array($rs_pay_det)) { $element_det = $row_pay_det['ElementDesc']; $amount_det = $row_pay_det['Amount']; $wte_worked = $row_pay_det['WTEWorked']; $wte_paid = $row_pay_det['WTEPaid']; $wte_cont = $row_pay_det['WTEContract']; $payscale = $row_pay_det['Payscale']; //Get band/point and annual salary where element is basic pay if ($element_det =="3959#Basic Pay"){ $sql_payscale = 'SELECT txtPayscaleName, Salary FROM tblpayscalemapping WHERE txtPayscale = "'.$payscale.'"'; $rs_payscale = mysql_query($sql_payscale); $row_payscale = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs_payscale); $grade = $row_payscale['txtPayscaleName']; $salary = "£" . my_number_format($row_payscale['Salary'], 0, ".", ","); } } } But I get an error on $row_pay_det2 saying that "mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource"

  • Stored procedure with output parameters vs. table-valued function?

    - by abatishchev
Which approach is better to use if I need a member (sp or func) returning 2 parameters: CREATE PROCEDURE Test @in INT, @outID INT OUT, @amount DECIMAL OUT AS BEGIN ... END or CREATE FUNCTION Test ( @in INT ) RETURNS @ret TABLE (outID INT, amount DECIMAL) AS BEGIN ... END What are pros and cons of each approach considering that the result will passed to another stored procedure: EXEC Foobar @outID, @outAmount

  • Best method to search hierarchical data

    - by WDuffy
I'm looking at building a facility which allows querying for data with hierarchical filtering. I have a few ideas how I'm going to go about it but was wondering if there are any recommendations or suggestions that might be more efficient. As an example imagine that a user is searching for a job. The job areas would be as follows. 1: Scotland 2: --- West Central 3: ------ Glasgow 4: ------ Etc 5: --- North East 6: ------ Ayrshire 7: ------ Etc A user can search specific (i.e. Glasgow) or in a larger area (i.e. Scotland). The two approaches I am considering are: keep a note of children in the database for each record (i.e. cat 1 would have 2, 3, 4 in its children field) and query against that record with a SELECT * FROM Jobs WHERE Category IN Areas.childrenField. Use a recursive function to find all results who have a relation to the selected area. The problems I see from both are: Holding this data in the db will mean having to keep track of all changes to structure. Recursion is slow and inefficent. Any ideas, suggestion or recommendations on the best approach? I'm using C# ASP.NET with MSSQL 2005 DB.
