  • Will spreading your servers load not just consume more recourses

    I am running a heavy real-time updating website. The amount of recourses needed per user are quite high, ill give you an example. Setup Every visit The application is php/mysql so on every visit static and dynamic content is loaded. Recourses: apache,php,mysql Every second (no more than a second will just be too long) The website needs to be updated real-time so every second there is an ajax call thats updates the website. Recourses: jQuery,apache,php,mysql Avarage spending for single user (spending one minute and visited 3 pages) Apache: +/- 63 requests / responsess serving static and dynamic content (img,css,js,html) php: +/- 63 requests / responses mysql: +/- 63 requests / responses jquery: +/- 60 requests / responses Optimization I want to optimize this process, but I think that maybe it would be just the same in the end. Before implementing and testing (which will take weeks) I wanted to have some second opinions from you guys. Every visit I want to start off with having nginx in the front and work as a proxy to deliver the static content. Recources: Dynamic: apache,php,mysql Static: nginx This will spread the load on apache a lot. Every Second For the script that loads every second I want to set up Node.js server side javascript with nginx in te front. I want to set it up that jquery makes a request ones a minute, and node.js streams the data to the client every second. Recources: jQuery,nginx,node.js,mysql Avarage spending for single user (spending one minute and visited 3 pages) Nginx: 4 requests / responsess serving mostly static conetent(img,css,js) Apache: 3 requests only the pages php: 3 requests only the pages node.js: 1 request / 60 responses jquery: 1 request / 60 responses mysql: 63 requests / responses Optimization As you can see in the optimisation the load from Apache and PHP are lifted and places on nginx and node.js. These are known for there light footprint and good performance. But I am having my doubts, because there are still 2 programs extra loaded in the memory and they consume cpu. So it it better to have less programs that do the job, or more. Before I am going to spend a lot of time setting this up I would like to know if it will be worth the while.

  • Chrome Countdown Extension [migrated]

    I have modified this countdown script to countdown to 4:20pm everyday. I have attempted to create a Google Chrome app that displays the countdown. The javascript is supposed replace a paragraph tag with id of "note" with the time left. It works when I load the page in chrome, but does not work when I load the extension. Example, if I put: <p id="note">asdf</a> I get just the text, "asdf", but when I open the html file I get the countdown.   • How to restore "working folders" upon restart?

    I am not sure I am working the problem correctly but I will try my best. I am newbie to ubuntu and I am using Ubuntu 11.10. On a daily basis but I have a set of 5-10 folders which I need to refer for my work. I am looking for a way if I can create a "workspace" of these folders so that upon restart in a single click all the folders in the workspace can be opened in different tabs. Another option that I right now plan to use us create links of the folders and then select all of them and open in different tabs. Was wondering if there is a cleaner option already provided in ubuntu.

Like I do everything 50/50 or better I spend all time practicing and putting my knowledge in real life things (php, jQuery, AngularJS)? This is a big pain, I learnt jQuery, then Angular, then php, but didn't practice and forget the code, now I watched basic and intermediate tutorials to refresh knowledge, so what do you think what is the best?

  • Is there a Math.atan2 substitute for j2ME? Blackberry development

    I have a wide variety of locations stored in my persistent object that contain latitudes and longitudes in double(43.7389, 7.42577) format. I need to be able to grab the user's latitude and longitude and select all items within, say 1 mile. Walking distance. I have done this in PHP so I snagged my PHP code and transferred it to Java, where everything plugged in fine until I figured out J2ME doesn't support atan2(double, double). So, after some searching, I find a small snippet of code that is supposed to be a substitute for atan2.     I have a pretty awesome firefox set up and spent a lot of time getting it perfect. Is there any way that anyone knows about to convert the entire configuration to portable? Programs like MozBackup are great for backing up the complete set up, but you can't restore a Firefox profile to Firefox portable (maybe there is a workaround to fake it out? or possibly another method?) In case anyone is interested here is the gist of the best add-ons I've found: Autopager (scroll down google and other multi page results without clicking next) Coral IE Tab (IE in firefox - in case a website 'insists' that you use IE) Cyber search (search google straight from the address bar - VERY HELPFUL) Download StatusBar (display progress of downloads in the bottom of ff - no annoying popups FireFTP (erases need for an external FTP client - opens in a tab) Gmail manager (if you use multiple gmail accounts) Session Manager (saving multiple sessions of tabs - ff session recover) Surf Canyon (pull relevant stuff out of the depths of search results - even from craigslist Tab Mix Plus (ESSENTIAL - tab behavior customization - have multiple rows of tabs I also have it set up so you can type 'g test' in the address bar and ff will pull up the google results for 'test'. Similarly have it set up for guitar tabs (tab), facebook (f), wikipedia (w), google maps from my house (gmhome), torrents (tor), ticketmaster (t), rotten tomatoes (rt), craiglist (c) plus about 20 other sites.

    Our system moved from Windows Server 2003(Enterprise SP2) & IIS 6. And new system is Windows Server 2012(Standard) and IIS 6(for smtp mail) & 8.   • Getting error ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 2048 at everything I'm doing in Eclipse

    Hi, whatever I'm doing in Eclipse, I get an error. At start up I get an error at Java tooling initializing. I get an error when I want to open a type. And it's always the same error. For example, when opening a type I get: An internal error occurred during: "Cache refresh". 2048 The error at the start up also prints the error code as 2048. I'm using the most up to date version of Eclipse.   • Ignore non-unicode programs language when installing software

    This is something that is driving me nuts for a while and I haven't been able to find a solution for this problem anywhere. I am running Windows 7 and my "Language for non-Unicode programs" setting is set to Russian. I need for some non-unicode software that has a Russian UI. However, for most of my software I prefer to use the English UI. A lot of software out there is multilingual and is too smart for my liking. When installing, it switches the UI to Russian and the software UI stays in Russian after the installation without an option to change that, besides setting the "non-unicode language" to English. It switches back to Russian once I revert the setting and reboot. Most of the time it is driver software, i.e: Intel, HP, etc. How can force the installation to run English and stay that way after install, ignoring the "Language for non-Unicode programs" setting? Now, I understand this might be specific to the installer: MSI, Install Shield, etc. But any solution will be good, even if I have to apply it for every software installation.   • How to get desired FireFox last tab behavior?

    All tabs should be the same; so if any of the have a 'close' button, they all should, including the last tab. I see no reason that a tab's close button should suddenly vanish simply b/c that tab has become the last one open. If I have N tabs open, and park the mouse over the left-most tab's close button, this vanishing close button trick means now I have to make a large mouse move to get to the app's close button. Unsat. Mouse moves = too many milliseconds wasted. Closing the last tab should NOT take me to my home page, or any other page whatsoever. I want the browser to close with the last tab. I do not expect or want "new tab" behavior when I click a Close button. Now, I've gone into about:config and played with browser.tabs.closeWindoWithLastTab, but this setting oversteps its purpose; while it does make the browser close, for some inexplicable reason, it also suppresses the last tab's close button! I have tried the "last tab close button" add-on, and while this does restore the close button, the add-on oversteps by taking the liberty of turning closeWindowWithLastTab off. Is there some way out of this pickle? Is it too hard to just code things to provide simple, orthogonal actions, so that everybody can config the UI to their liking, and not just to a few pre-fab configurations that the developers think everyone should like? Btw, FF 13.0.1 on ms windows

  • Reasons for Ajax navigation breaking on Coldfusion/Apache when running an app in iOS fullscreen mode? [closed]

    Not sure if this belongs to SO or here. I'm running a webApp using jquery, jquerymobile, requireJS and apache, coldfusion8, mysql 5.0.88 serverside. The app works fine until I try to run it in fullscreen mode on iOS (add icon to homescreen, launch app from there with <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" /> specified). This meta tag will break the Jquery Mobile AJAX navigation. The AJAX request will fail and the requested page will be loaded as a new page, thereby restarting the app on every page change. I have chased this through the whole front end starting from requireJS through Jquery Mobiles AJAX navigation down to the AJAX request being made in Jquery. xhr.send( ( s.hasContent && s.data ) || null ); In regular browser this works no problem. In fullscreen mode, this fails (readystate=0, empty response). I have found this article, which argues that fullscreen mode is like a browser instance with different HTTP strings. On ASP.net this results in the browser not being identified by the server and only basic browser settings being assumed (e.g. no Javascript). I'm a little lost where to start looking for possible reasons serverside. I have not written any server code for handling Ajax page navigation, so this must be something that is handled out of the box by Coldfusion or Apache? Question: Where could I start looking for problable causes of fullscreen mode breaking AJAX navigation if I assume Coldfusion or Apache are the culprits? Is there a setting I'm missing in httpd.config? What else could be the problem? Thanks for inputs!

  • FAQ: Highlight GridView Row on Click and Retain Selected Row on Postback

    A couple of months ago I’ve written a simple demo about “Highlighting GridView Row on MouseOver”. I’ve noticed many members in the forums (http://forums.asp.net) are asking how to highlight row in GridView and retain the selected row across postbacks. So I’ve decided to write this post to demonstrate how to implement it as reference to others who might need it. In this demo I going to use a combination of plain JavaScript and jQuery to do the client-side manipulation. I presumed that you already know how to bind the grid with data because I will not include the codes for populating the GridView here. For binding the gridview you can refer this post: Binding GridView with Data the ADO.Net way or this one: GridView Custom Paging with LINQ. To persist the settings we will use some HiddenFields control to store the data so that when it postback we can reference the value from there. It is also where we set the previous row and rowIndex values in HiddenFields.  The $(function(){}); is a short-hand for the jQuery document.ready event. This event will be fired once the page is posted back to the server that’s why we call the function RetainSelectedRow(). The RetainSelectedRow() function is where we referenced the current selected values stored from the HiddenFields and pass these values to the ChangeRowColor() function to retain the highlighted row.
