  • Speaking - Red Gate's SQL in the City

    - by AllenMWhite
The great folks at Red Gate have invited me to join the festivities at the SQL in the City events in both Chicago on October 5, and in Seattle on November 5. In both cities I'll be presenting a session entitled Automated Deployment: Application And Database Releases Without The Headache . Here's the abstract: Ever since applications were first created, the deployment of updates and changes has been a headache, with the potential of disruption of the application at best and data corruption at worst....(read more)

  • How would one build a relational database on a key-value store, a-la Berkeley DB's SQL interface?

    - by coleifer
I've been checking out Berkeley DB and was impressed to find that it supported a SQL interface that is "nearly identical" to SQLite. http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/bdb-sql/dbsqlbasics.html#identicalusage I'm very curious, at a high-level, how this kind of interface might have been architected. For instance: since values are "transparent", how do you efficiently query and sort by value how are limits and offsets performed efficiently on large result sets how would the keys be structured and serialized for good average-case performance

  • How do I make a rich menu for an appindicator?

    - by Erigami
I'm adding menu items to an appindicator in pygtk. I don't want them to behave like ordinary menu items: I want them to have normal appearance, but not to respond to mouse hovers and mouse clicks. The way I imagine the new sound menu will behave. In other words, I want to prevent the MenuItem selection that's going on below: How do I go about doing that? What events should I swallow, or is there a better way?

  • Can I show a table of one custom variable against another?

    - by Simon
    We have a number of custom variables set up in google analytics. We'd like to show a table of event occurrences broken down by two custom variables, e.g. if variable one can be A, B, or C and variable two can be J, K or L: Events | A | B | C | -------+-----+-----+-----+ J | 345 | 65 | 12 | K | 234 | 43 | 7 | L | 123 | 21 | 4 | -------+-----+-----+-----+ How do I get the information in that format?

  • UML Receptions and AcceptEventActions

    - by Silli
What shall be the relationship between the receptions of a class (was classifier before Aadaam correction) and the AcceptEventActions in the activity describing the behavior of its instances? I understand the former is related to signals reception of the type while the latter is related to runtime ReceiveSignalEvent events of the class instances (objects). But it is not totally clear to me how to express consistency among these constructs.

  • Collecting the Information in the Default Trace

The default trace is still the best way of getting important information to provide a security audit of SQL Server, since it records such information as logins, changes to users and roles, changes in object permissions, error events and changes to both database settings and schemas. The only trouble is that the information is volatile. Feodor shows how to squirrel the information away to provide reports, check for unauthorised changes and provide forensic evidence.

  • A completely free and open programming language

    - by XGouchet
With Oracle vs Google trial, it seems that Java is not entirely Open and free (as free software) as I expected. Although there exists completely free/open JVM, it's hard to know what is a copyright infringement with Java, and what is not. So I'd like to know if there is a completely Open and free language with open and free IDE (Eclipse-like) out there, Object Oriented if possible, and able to make window-based applications for the main OSs (Linux, Mac, Windows).

  • I have data that sends in "bursts" of 100 records with a significant delay. How do I structure my classes for multithreading?

    - by makerofthings7
My datasource sends information in 100 batches of 100 records with a delay of 1 to 3 seconds between batches. I would like to start processing data as soon as it's received, but I'm not sure how to best approach this. Some ideas I've been playing with include: yield Concurrent Dictionary ConcurrentDictionary with INotifyProperyChanged Events etc. As you can see I'm all over the place, and would appreciate some tested guidance on how to approach this

  • How to filter a funnel by product?

    - by Ryan
Let's say I'm tracking a conversion like the following: View product > Customize > Finish order When I push the the above events, I also push a product ID and name attached to it, hoping that I could segment by that, but I can't figure out how. I want to view the conversion per product, not generally. Does anyone know if this is possible with Google Analytics? If not, please suggest other solutions.

  • La fondation Eclipse utilise Hudson pour construire les binaires de ses projets, vers la fin de l'autre projet d'usine logicielle Jenkins ?

  • LAG function – practical use and comparison to old syntax

    - by Michael Zilberstein
Recently I had to analyze huge trace – 46GB of trc files. Looping over files I loaded them into trace table using fn_trace_gettable function and filters I could use in order to filter out irrelevant data. I ended up with 6.5 million rows table, total of 7.4GB in size. It contained RowNum column which was defined as identity, primary key, clustered. One of the first things I detected was that although time difference between first and last events in the trace was 10 hours, total duration of all sql...(read more)
