• Why is the MaskBit maxed out

  Hi there for some reason the maskbit of my b2FixtureDef is being maxxed out and im not sure why Here is the declaration of the items that are used in the game enum PhysicBits { PB_NONE = 0x0000, PB_PLAYER = 0x0001, PB_PLATFORM = 0x0002 }; Basically what i want is the player to run along a surface is not slow down (i set platform & player friction to 0.0f) I then setup my Contact Listener to print out the connections (currently only have 1 platform and 1 player) Player Fixture Def b2FixtureDef fixtureDef; fixtureDef.shape = &groundBox; fixtureDef.density = 1.0f; fixtureDef.friction = 0.0f; fixtureDef.filter.categoryBits = PB_PLAYER; fixtureDef.filter.maskBits = PB_PLATFORM; Platform Fixture Def b2FixtureDef fixtureDef; fixtureDef.shape = &groundBox; fixtureDef.density = 1.0f; fixtureDef.friction = 0.0f; fixtureDef.filter.categoryBits = PB_PLATFORM; fixtureDef.filter.maskBits = PB_PLAYER; Now correct me if im wrong but these are saying the following: Player Collides with Platform Platform Collides with Player Here is the printout of the fixtures colliding with each other ******** <-- Indicates new Contact Platform ContactA: 2 MaskA: 1 ------ Player ContactB: 1 MaskB: 2 ******** <-- Indicates new Contact Platform ContactA: 2 MaskA: 1 ------ Player ContactB: 1 MaskB: 65535 ******** <-- Indicates new Contact Platform ContactA: 1 MaskA: 65535 ------ Player ContactB: 1 MaskB: 65535 Here is where i am confused. On the second & third contact the player maskBit is set to 65535 when it should be 2 and there are 3 contacts when i am sure at most there should only be 2. I've been trying to figure this out for hours and i can't understand why it is doing this. I would be very grateful is someone could shine some light on this for me UPDATE: **I printed out the class of the contacting objects. For some reason it seems to do the following: First Contact: Correct Result. Second Contact: Player b2Fixture Obtains a new maskBit. Third Contact: Platform b2Fixture appears to be set to the same as the Player b2Fixture. It would seem I have a memory race condition i think**

• What's a good way to get an IT internship? [closed]

  I'm a second year CS student who's worked really hard to build and expand my skills. I've spent the past week now trying to find a place to volunteer (i.e. work for FREE) so I can get a little bit of in-the-door experience with web development. I have a portfolio with several decent projects, a handful of languages and other hard/soft skills that employers constantly say they're clamoring for. I can't even get people to take my calls. This is me offering to work for them for FREE, remember. I'm in a reputable program at a respected school, get decent grades and...yeah, I've worked really hard to be presentable. On the rare occassions I actually get to speak to somebody at a design firm they hedge and do everything they can to get me off the phone. Nobody's ever expressed even the slightest interest in taking me on. The answer to the experience problem is supposed to be "you need to spend a year or two building up a big portfolio of projects on your own" so that employers will be impressed. I've done that. Websites, standalone apps, etc.. Nobody will even look at my resume, though. Question: Why does there seem to be so little interest in taking on upaid interns in the world of IT? Update: Sorry you all think I'm too aggressive or angry. It wasn't my intent to be a jerk to people while asking them for their opinions. That said, how would you feel if employer after employer turned you down cold when you offered yourself to them without asking for remuneration? One can't even get an unpaid job in this economy now, it seems. How am I going about my search? I find web firms in my area and contact them via email with a brief sales pitch of myself and a resume attached. Then a couple of days later I follow up with a phone contact. Nobody--anywhere--is advertising for interns of any kind. If there were I'm sure there'd be about 500 resumes per position, even unpaid. I've had good experiences in the past with cold-calling firms for actual paid jobs in other industries (hiring is a pain in the ass process and a call like this can show initiative while reducing a busy employer's need to do all the hiring overhead work), so I thought volunteering would work at least as well. My skills are pretty good for a CS student and include the usual suspects: HTML/CSS/Javascript, Python, Java, C, C#/.Net etc etc. I made a point on my resume to tie each ability claim to a project as well. Oh, and regarding the "working for free still costs the employer money" argument: that's an excellent point I hadn't though of. But it means...what? I have to pay the employer for the privilege of working there now?

• Did I choose proper career path? [closed]

  I am a C# Junior. My company has it's own enterprise documents-flow system written, my job along with 10 other programmers is to write modules/add-ons for it. I am totally bored of this job, I dont like Microsoft's technologies stack (dont hate me here, just subjective), but it's plain boring, enterprise is boring (subjective again, everyone's tastes differ), days on this work last long and I am tired of it. In short - I dont like my job. In my spare time I am doing PHP-development and I totally like it. I am also doing web-design, so I am LAMP-kind of guy who loves his Ubuntu and does design aswell. I know that most programmers don't do design themselves, so some person is either all about design or all about coding, but I enjoy both and do both. I often get interesting sites orders, I love to make whole websites with all the design, I love the feeling of site completeness, I enjoy talking with customers. I like that PHP is simple and skill cap is lower than one of java, meaning I can become expert in it after some years. But C# (and J2EE also) pay more, and I am doing really good in C#. But I dont like it. I can go for J2EE, platform itself seems more fun to me rather than .NET, but EE development is still boring to me. But it seems higher payed, easier to find job (since PHP is too common for its easiness. But if you are expert in something it doesnt matter, right? Just a higher skillcap.) Question: I want to go on with freelance. I want to have an opportunity to start my own startup in web. Actually I have a browser-game already written by myself, it earns me around 500$ per month which I am really proud of since I am 21 only and still noob in coding. I want to find part-time PHP job. 3 days per week so I can get some stable income, I can work in team and learn from them, social factor matters aswell as ensurance and diversity. I also want my total income (freelance + part-time job + own startup maybe)to be not too much less than one I have working in EE development sector. Maximum of 25% lower, but not more. Is it all possible if I stick with web-development (LAMP + HTML/CSS/JS/Jquery/AJAX)? Or is it easier to reach my goals with EE development?

• To Obtain EPOCH Time Value from a Packed BIT Structure in C [migrated]

We have a binary data file which has following data structure: (It is a 12 byte structure): I need to find out Epoch time value(total time value is packed in 42 bits as described below): Field-1 : Byte 1, Byte 2, + 6 Bits from Byte 3 Time-1 : 2 Bits from Byte 3 + Byte 4 Time-2 : Byte 5, Byte 6, Byte 7, Byte 8 Field-2 : Byte 9, Byte 10, Byte 11, Byte 12 For Field-1 and Field-2 I do not have issue as they can be taken out easily. I need time value in Epoch Time (long) as it has been packed in Bytes 5,6,7,8 and 3 and 4 as follows: (the bit structure for the time value is as follows): Bytes 5 to 8 (32 bit word) Packs time value bits from 0 thru 31 (byte 5 has 0 to 7 bits, byte 6 has 8 to 15, byte 7 has 16 to 23, byte 8 has 24 to 31). the remaining 10 bits of time value are packed in Bytes 3 and byte 4 as follows: byte 3 has 2 bits:32 and 33, and Byte 4 has remaining bits : 34 to 41. So total bits for time value is 42 bits, packed as above. I need to compute epoch value coming out of these 42 bits. How do I do it? • Should the 12-String be in it's own class and why?

  This question is regarding a homework project in my first Java programming class (online program). The assignment is to create a "stringed instrument" class using (among other things) an array of String names representing instrument string names ("A", "E", etc). The idea for the 12-string is beyond the scope of the assignment (it doesn't have to be included at all) but now that I've thought of it, I want to figure out how to make it work. Part of me feels like the 12-String should have it's own class, but another part of me feels that it should be in the guitar class because it's a guitar. I suppose this will become clear as I progress but I thought I would see what kind of response I get here. Also, why would they ask for a String[] for the instrument string names? Seems like a char[] makes more sense. Thank you for any insight. • Differences between a retail and wholesale website, and how difficult would it be to integrate them? [closed]

  I was told to come here for some guidance, I know that my questions can be quite broad, but I just really want some kind of direction to go towards (links, articles, etc). So here it goes: For the past month I have been planning and started implementing a wholesale website, but plans got changed on me and I need to allow both retail and wholesale orders which will also depend on whether the account is a regular customer or also has a seller account. There are various types of products and it has been decided that I would use subcategories as tables to organize them and allow various specific item fields. So here are some of my specific questions: How different is the database structure for each item to be available for both wholesale and retail? Will it just be adding a quantity column and have two different pricing, or much more complicated? I am unaware if there's any price tables but would that be more difficult? They use Quickbooks POS software, how difficult/inefficient will it be to update inventory quantities if they have like 2000-4000 products? And what would be the best ways to extract the information and update the system? I know it export an excel spreadsheet so maybe a suggested php plugin for it? How difficult is this project in your professional opinion, and how big should a team usually be? (At the moment it is just me.) Projected time for planning, implementation, and quality assurance in accordance to team size? I am an entry level developer and I know that I do not have enough knowledge to direct myself on this website...What kind of web developer skills will I need to find to help me? (My company is willing to hire people to get this website done as fast as possible.) Also, what would be some great questionnaires to ask the product stakeholder about what he wants from the website? (He has made it clear he is neither computer or internet savvy...) Sorry for the amount of questions, I'm an entry level web developer and do not have a senior to look up to for guidance. I have knowledge in HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin. I have never used any frameworks like Zend, Magento, etc, and is doing this all from scratch. So far the website is built in an object oriented way, MVC architecture to the best of my abilities, but I have many doubts because I would really want to have this done right.   I've got Django 1.0.2 installed on Ubuntu 9.04. I'd like to upgrade Django, because I have an app that needs Django 1.1 or greater. I'm trying to run a python app called Myro for controlling the Parallax Scribbler2 robot - figured it would be a fun way to learn a bit of Python - but I'm not getting out of the gate here. I've searched out all the Myro help docs but like a lot in-progress open source programs, they are a moving target and conflicting, out of date, or not very specific about OSX. • mod_perl loses STDOUT in middle of request

  Hi, I have been having this weird issue where mod_perl seems to lose STDOUT in the middle of the request. So far I have eliminated everything I could think of. You might have seen this bug related to the following errors in error_log : Apache2 IO flush: (103) Apache2::RequestIO::read: (104) Software caused connection abort They are all the same error. It happens when the perl script running under mod_perl loses STDOUT when trying to print the result back to apache. I only notice this error on my servers running the following: (centos5.4) Perl 5.8.8-27 mod_perl 2.0.4-6 httpd 2.2.3-31 kernel-2.6.18-164.15.1 It's not the code This code has been working for months It's not network related The browser gets the error response from apache. It's not time related I get the error 15 or so seconds after I restart httpd It's not idle httpd related I have tried reducing the min/max SpareServers to 1 It's not load related I get the error even if there are only 10 sessions on httpd It's not related to the "fd < PERLIO_MAX_REFCOUNTABLE_FD" perl 5.8.8 bug I recompiled perl-5.8.8 with the patch mentioned here : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=559832, same error. It appeared sometime between December 2009 and February 2010 sorry I cannot be more specific Anyone has any idea ? Anything that I have not tested ? Really Puzzled!

• "Could not claim interface on camera: -6" when trying to connect usb camera (Kinect)

  I have installed the freenect library from openkinect.org. With that library there is a demo application which you can run from the terminal to test out the Kinect. However when I run this command I get the following output: richard@behemoth:~$ sudo freenect-glview Kinect camera test Number of devices found: 1 Could not claim interface on camera: -6 Could not open device This particular error is thrown by the library libusb by the function libusb_claim_interface and the error -6 corresponds to the LIBUSB_ERROR_BUSY. So my guess is that it has something to do with mounting the usb, rather than specifically the freenect library or the Kinect itself. So my question is how can I find out what resource is using this interface and how can I free it so that I can access it?   I am using Memcached Session Manager to handle Tomcat sessions in non-sticky mode. My deployment in Azure consists of a Worker Role with two instances which connect to an Azure VM running my Memcached server. Everything works pretty well, my session is persisted and retrieved by any of the two instances transparently. The problem arises when the session is idle for about 4 minutes; everything points out that the Azure Loadbalancer is closing the spymemcached connection to the VM after some period of inactivity.   Hi, I have an (old) SMC-001 IPMI device on an (old) X6DVL-EG2 motherboard. My problem is that I cannot access the BMC from LAN. I'm also getting some interesting output from ipmitool. First, the setup. I enable Console Redirection in the BIOS, turn BIOS Redirection after POSt to "disabled". I then modprobe'ed for ipmi_msghandler, ipmi_devintf and ipmi_si. I then found ipmi0 under /dev. So far so good. Since I want console redirection over serial, I modified /boot/grub/menu.lst: http://pastebin.com/YYJmhusQ I then modified "/etc/inittab" as follows: S1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 19200 ttyS1 ansi Networking I set as following, using "ipmitool" ipaddr: 192.168.3.164 netmask: 255.255.255.0 defgw: 192.168.3.1 The above are correct for my environment. To test it I do: ipmitool -I open chassis power off which responds by powering off the machine. • Printer sharing problem (win7 / WinXP): Canon pixma USB printer

  For a friend, I am trying to share a USB Canon pixma ip3000 printer between two computers in his home network. But I can't get it to work due tot a Canon driver problem. The printer is connected to the Windows 7 (64 bit) computer, and we would like to be able to print from a Windows XP computer. 'Normally' it should be no problem to use Windows printer sharing, however, because one machine is 32-bit and the other is 64-bit, installing an extra driver is required. T he driver provided by canon (here) is described as a 'Canon Inkjet Printer Driver Add-On Module'. The problem is that the .inf file contained in the .exe file isn't accepted as a driver when prompted by the Printer Sharing Wizard, I suspect because it is an add-on driver (whatever that may be). I've connected and installed the printer locally on the XP machine first (which works), so that the XP machine would already know the driver when using it as a network printer, but that doesn't work; the wizard still wants a driver file. Anybody suggestions how to get this working? Maybe there is some sort of generic driver (would be OK even with limited functionality)?

  Hello I am trying to setup nginx with stub status so I can monitor nginx requests etc.. with serverdensity.com. However It seems I lost "include" part in my nginx.conf and now none of vhosts in sites-enabled work. • How can I fix my corrupted RAID1 ext4 partition on a Synology DS212 NAS?

  I have two identical 3 TB disks that were in a RAID1 array, where one disk crashed. I replaced the failed disk, but not after the RAID partitions got messed up. I need to figure out how to restore the RAID array and get at my ext4 partition.   So I'm really stuck on this issue. An install process is complaining about write permission on settings.php and sites/default/files/. The folder is created everything is a go.
