  Azure Storage Explorer –  an another way to Deploy the services on Cloud Azure Storage Explorer is a useful GUI tool for inspecting and altering the data in your Azure cloud storage projects including the logs of your cloud-hosted applications. All three types of cloud storage can be viewed: blobs, queues, and tables. You can also create or delete blob/queue/table containers and items.   Has anyone got any ideas on where we should be adding our SEO metadata in a Web Forms project? Why I ask is that currently I have two main Masterpages, one is the home page and the other one is every other page, they both have the same metadata that’s just a generic description and set of key words about my site. The problem with that is search engines are only picking up my home page and my own search engine displays the same title and description for all results.   I am currently learning to use Git by reading Pro Git. Right now I'm learning about branching and tags. My question is when should I use a branch and when should I use a tag? For example, say I create a branch for version 1.1 of a project. When I finish and release this version, should I leave the branch to mark the release version? Or should I add a tag? If I add a tag, should I delete the version branch (assuming that it is merged into master or some other branch)?

• Why do browsers leak memory?

  A colleague and I were speaking about browsers (using a browser control object in a project), and it appears as plain as day that all browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE, Opera) display the same characteristic or side-effect from their usage and that being 'Leaking Memory'. Can someone explain why that is the case? Surely as with any form of code, there should be proper garbage collection? PS. I've read about some defensive patterns on why this can happen from a developer's perspective. I am aware of an article Crockford wrote on IE; but why is the problem symptomatic of every browser?   As I am developing database api for a project. I am developing commands for getting data from database. e.g. i have one gib table so command for that is getgib name alias limit fields if user pass the name e.g. getgib rahul than it will return all the gib data whose name is like rahul. if alias is given than it will return the all the gib owned by the user whose alias(userid) given . So i want to design the commands. limit : is to limit the record in query, fields : is the extra fields i want to add in the select query . so as now commands are set but now Question 1 : i want the gibs by the gibid , so how to make this or any suggestion to improve my command is welcome. Question 2 : if user don't want to specify the name , and he want only the gibs by providing alias then at this what separator at the place of name i should used.

• Microsoft Codename Houston

  On one of the final talks about SQL Azure in Day 3 of PDC09, David Robinson, Senior PM on the Azure team, announced a project codenamed ‘Houston’ which is basically a Silverlight equivalent of SQL Server Management Studio. The concept comes from the SQL Azure being within the cloud, and if the only way to interact with it is by installing SSMS locally then it does not feel like a consistent story. From the limited preview, it only contains the basics but it clearly lets you create tables, stored procedures and views, edit them, even add data to tables in a grid view reminiscent of Microsoft Access. The UI was based around the standard ribbon bar, object window on the left and working pane on the right. As of now this tool is still pre-alpha and it seems like a basic tool that will facilitate rapid database development on cloud. When asked about general availability, no dates were given but calendar 2010 was indicated as the target.   I see the term "enterprise" being thrown around software developers and programmers a lot and used loosely it seems. en·ter·prise/'ent?r?priz/ Noun: A project or undertaking, typically one that is difficult or requires effort. Initiative and resourcefulness. Can someone please clarify what this term actually encompasses? "At an enterprise level", "enterprise scale"? There are even "enterprise editions" of things. What exactly does it mean? It obviously doesn't make sense judging by the above definition so more specifically to software what does one mean when using the word enterprise? EDIT: To add a spin on this - how does this term then fit into phrases such as Enterprise Framework Model? What does data access and data context have to do with company-wide descriptions?

• Why aren't we all doing model driven development yet ?

  I am a true believer in Model Driven Development, I think it has the possibility to increase productivity, quality and predictability. When looking at MetaEdit the results are amazing. Mendix in the Netherlands is growing very very fast and has great results. I also know there are a lot of problems versioning of generators, templates and framework projects that just aren't right for model driven development (not enough repetition) higher risks (when the first project fails, you have less results than you would have with more traditional development) etc But still these problems seem solvable and the benefits should outweigh the effort needed. Question: What do you see as the biggest problems that make you not even consider model driven development ? I want to use these answers not just for my own understanding but also as a possible source for a series of internal articles I plan to write.

• Eloqua API Full Code Example in JAVA

  Is there anyone out there who has mastered to retrieve some data programmatically from Eloqua? First of all, I'm more or less a newbie, as far as JAVA. I can follow tutorials, take directions and will Google till my fingers bleed. I understand the basics and am slightly familiar with OOP. My main problem is that I have a Friday deadline (and tomorrow is Thanksgiving). At any rate, all the Eloqua code snippets (that I've been able to find) illustrate one aspect of a specific issue, and that's it. In my case, I would greatly appreciate a JAVA project of some sort, with all the necessary files to do web services (WSDL, SOAP and perhaps WSIT) and the main class and all that included. No, I don't want you to do my work for me! Just give me enough to find my way around, enter the information I need to retrieve and all that. I'll take it from there. Any pointers, links or suggestions?

  I need your suggestions guys regarding the project I'm planning to create. I want to create a kiosk software/application that is capable to access database in a server. (So, there's a networking here..)Because the information that will be displayed in a Kiosk screen will be coming from a database in other computer. So my problem here is, I don't know which programming language is the best for this kind of application. I'm thinking about using Visual Basic 6.0 since my group is comfortable using this programming language, but I also want to consider the design. I don't like a plain button. • How to backup BOINC

  I have BOINC Manager installed from the PPA, version 6.10.17, and I am about to upgrade my Ununtu install with a clean install. I would like to know how I can backup my work done on BOINC so I don't loose what I have already done and have to start from scratch again. For example I am running the Climate Prediction project and it runs for a year or so, I'm at 30% work done so I want to backup that 30% work done. Also as an addition to this, can someone advise me the best way to upgrade BOINC when new versions are released on their website but are not available on the PPA yet. I know you can install BOINC anywhere, but I want to install it to the same place the PPA install does so all my settings and work done is recognised. Thanks in advance.

• Annoying mistake when create web template in SharePoint 2010

  I get the error    Error occurred in deployment step ‘Add Solution’: Exception from HRESULT: 0x8107026E when deploying my web template project. It turns out that your name for the Web template name has to match the name of you WebTemplate section in the element.xml file. Please see the screenshot below, the highlighted two needs to be the same. It took me so long to figure out and I will keep here in case everybody else struggle. • Linux multiplayer server, need some help.

  I need to write a server for a game, which is closer to action type game, so needs fast communication. There must be only one server, I'll just split the world in zones, but this is not the question. Client will be written in java using jMonkeyEngine. In my opinion I should write the server in java. I don't want to implement any low level features such as communication, reliable udp, etc. Can you suggest any java libraries that already implement this? Or maybe there is more suitable languages to implement this project (must run on linux)?

• How do I do TDD on embedded devices?

  I'm not new to programming and I've even worked with some low level C and ASM on AVR, but I really can't get my head around a larger-scale embedded C project. Being degenerated by the Ruby's philosophy of TDD/BDD, I'm unable to understand how people write and test code like this. I'm not saying it's a bad code, I just don't understand how this can work. I wanted to get more into some low level programming, but I really have no idea how to approach this, since it looks like a completely different mindset that I'm used to. I don't have trouble understanding pointer arithmetics, or how allocating memory works, but when I see how complex C/C++ code looks compared to Ruby, it just seems impossibly hard. Since I already ordered myself an Arduino board, I'd love to get more into some low level C and really understand how to do things properly, but it seems like none of the rules of high level languages apply. Is it even possible to do TDD on embedded devices or when developing drivers or things like custom bootloader, etc.?

  I am looking for an engine or library to develop a game for iOS on Linux. High level, low level, GUI, no GUI, does not matter too much. I am really looking for anything. I'm not actually talking about deploying to iOS from Linux or anything like. I just want to do the bulk of the work on Linux, with minimal changes required to run it on iOS. Edit: YES, I do have access to a Mac, but it is limited. So I want to be able to work on the project on my regular Ubuntu box. Also, I am in the paid developer program, so I can deploy to iOS devices from the Mac.

• Good Atom Based Tablets that run Ubuntu?

  I'm starting a software project for a company that will deploy on tablet computers. They want to stick with Intel processors so they are looking for a good tablet that runs on an Atom processor. MY requirement is that it needs to also be able to run Ubuntu. It doesn't have to come with Ubuntu, I just need to be able to install it with no hassle. • Getting a solid understanding of Linux fundamentals

  I'm delving into the Linux world again as a diversion from my Microsoft-centric day job, and every time I tackle a new project I find it a frustrating exercise in trial and error. One thing that I always try to do when learning something new is figure out what the big pieces are and how they work together. I haven't yet come across a resource that explains Linux at this level. Resources seem to be either aimed at the barely computer literate crowd (Linux doesn't bite. Promise!) or the just compile the kernel and make your own distro crowd. I'm looking for a "JavaScript: The Good Parts" type of road map that doesn't necessarily answer all my questions so much as help me understand what questions I need to be asking. Any suggestions?

  I am in the beginning phase of create a mobile MMO with my team. The server software will be written in JavaScript using NodeJS, and the client software in Lua using Corona. We need a tool to auto-generate documentation for both the server-side and client-side code. Are there any tools which can generate documentation for both Lua and Javascript? And as a bonus: we are hosting our project on Bitbucket and the Bitbucket Wiki uses the Creole markup language. So if it's possible I want the tool to export to Creole.

• Which hosted ecommerce solutions allow customization?

  Following my previous question, I'm now evaluating the possibility of using a hosted platform for the ecommerce project I have to implement. Before I start "playing" with each one of them, I'd like ask if anybody knows which ones allow a good degree of customization. At the moment I'm looking at BigCommerce, but it seems that customization is limited to templates, while I need additional features which require PHP Coding. Also, I'd need to be able to import additional product data into the system, and I'd need to do this via code; I had a look at some integrations, but they gave me the impression that they all run on the rendered page via JavaScript. For example, if I want to show Facebook Reviews on a product, I'll have to add some JS that will fetch it and show it on the page. This is not optimal, as I must cater for people with JS disabled, therefore I'd need to run my own PHP code. Thanks again for all the opinions.
