What I'm looking for, is info on what is contained in the server 2008 system state backup. It is incredibly large (10+ G), and annoying to backup remotely. is there a way to take a full system state, and then do like a weekly incremental?
I know the wbadmin tool, but its options are limited.
I'm also looking for the option to remove the 2nd or 3rd oldest backup.

Is there any new information about Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 release date? Will it be in April with Visual Studio 2010 release on in May separately?
So I have some custom VPS which route emails via MX record in DNS. And I need to setup gmail interface via Google Apps - this step and previous are clear. But how can I insert some middle layer, to check emails messages for special words/etc., so something like spam assasin proxy, but custom product.
The question is:
How could i setup proxy mail from my server = to proxy server(or application) = to gmail servers?
Thank you, for any help!
I'd like to use window server 2012 VPN on a AWS VPC EC2 instance. The VPC has one public subnet and the EC2 instance has one network adapter. I've taken the following steps, but have been unsuccessful; am I missing a step or configuration? Thanks.
Configured an elastic IP for the VPC
Enabled protocols 47, 50, & 51
Added the RRAS role to the (EC2 instance) server
Configured the RRAS for vpn only.
Note: I'm able to RDP to the EC2 instance, but not able to ping the external IP.
I have a windows server 2008 R2 standard edition. The system suddenly stopped accepting remote desktop connections. When I tried to connect directly to the console, I am unable to start any applications. I got errors "The page file is to small to complete the action". Under takmanager in performance the system shows "Commit(GB) 127/127". What does this imply?
The system has 32 GB ram, 5 raid disks each 150 Gb
We've a lot of Volume Licences left, but the License Server apparantly
doesn't use them. Instead it issues Temporary Per Device CAL's. Which is a bit odd off course...
There are two licensing servers installed on terminal servers, not on a domain controller (these are pushed by SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\LicenseServers registry setting)

In most benchmark tests the Quad core isn't always ahead and frequently behind (tomshardware CPU Charts etc)
BUT the test cases are primarily orientated towards the desktop/game rig.
AS a Dedicated Server for a Database driven website. Should I consider more cores over speed?
Quick question:
I have a situation where I need to let multiple people on different PCs log into one server 2008 machine as administrator simultaneously over remote desktop. I have the CALs for it, it's just not set up correctly. When one user tries to log in, it boots the other out. What I need is to present to them a different session, just each as logged in as admin. Sorry for the slightly rambling post, I'm new here. Thanks!
I am trying to access IIS through web but unable to do so. Basically I have a router (which functions as router and modem) that is given by ISP and I have another router connected to the router given by ISP. My ISP's router can be visited through 192.168.0.1 and the router that I connected to ISP's router can be visited through 192.168.1.1
Please see my ISP's router:
As you can see I have DMZ enabled for my router of 192.168.1.1
Now please see my router of 192.168.1.1:
As you can see I added a virtual server for port 80 where 192.168.1.125 is my private IP.
I rebooted both of my modems an tried to visit my IP from: http://www.whatsmyip.org/
and after doing so, when I type my live IP I still see my router of 192.168.0.1 instead of my IIS. What am I missing?
Note: I have disabled Firewall on both of the routers.
Any help would be appreciated.
I installed Windows 2008 server R2 standard from the CD (english), applied updates and now I need to Install the Dutch language interface. It is provided on the DVD, but refuses to install, telling me it is incompatibel with this version of Windows.
Where can I get the right version ?
Hi, is there a query to list database user access and related source IPs on SQL Server 2000 and 2005? Please note that reporting service is not installed.
Thank you all for help.
We are tring to install SQL Server 2005 Standard on Windows 2008 Standard both 64 bit. Have done this before with no problems.
This time we get an error during the installation of client tools:
There was an unexpected failure during
the setup wizard
Link Id 20476, message ID 50000
There are no errors in the event log.
Anybody have any ideas what could be wrong?
We are trying to use new IIS7 (32bit, Classic Mode) webs in addition to our IIS6 webs with one SQL State Server for ASP.NET Session Handling. Unfortunately the number of transactions per seconds in the State Servers spikes (10 times+) as soon as we add the new IIS7 web to the farm.
Are there any known issues with the described setup?
I have a SQL Server 2008 R2 cluster on Windows Server 20008 R2. There are 2 nodes node1 and node2 in the cluster. When I start node1 and node2, I get the following statue information from them:
From node1:
C:\>cluster node
Listing status for all available nodes:
Node Node ID Status
-------------- ------- ---------------------
node1 1 Joining
node2 2 Down
C:\>
From node2:
C:\>cluster node
Listing status for all available nodes:
Node Node ID Status
-------------- ------- ---------------------
node1 1 Down
node2 2 Joining
C:\>
I tried to use the cluster manager to investigate, but it seems it just can't connect to the cluster. How to investigate this issue? Thanks.
I setup my router to forward port 80 to the PC hosting my web site. As a result, I am able to access this url (Don't bother clicking on it, it's just an example):
http://my.url.com/
When i click on this link, it works:
http://localhost:8080/tfs/web/
I also forward port 8080 to the same web server box
But when I try to access this url I get the eror "Page Cannot be displayed:"
http://my.url.com:8080/tfs/web/
I fwded port 8080 the same way I fwded port 80. I also turned off Windows Firewall, in case it was blocking port 8080.
Any theories why port 80 works but 8080 does not?
I setup the tomcat7 as a service as below:
c:\Program Files (x86)\Tomcat7\apache-tomcat-7.0.32\bin>service.bat install
Installing the service 'Tomcat7' ...
Using CATALINA_HOME: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tomcat7\apache-tomcat-7.0.32"
Using CATALINA_BASE: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tomcat7\apache-tomcat-7.0.32"
Using JAVA_HOME: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_09"
Using JRE_HOME: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_09\jre"
Using JVM: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_09\jre\bin\server\
jvm.dll"
However, when I try to start the service, I Get the error below:
c:\Program Files (x86)\Tomcat7\apache-tomcat-7.0.32\bin>tomcat7.exe
%1 is not a valid Win32 application.
Failed to run service as console application
This is the file I downloaded from apache: apache-tomcat-7.0.32-windows-x64.zip. I am able to successfully start tomcat on port 8080 as a standalong thing. Meaning I go to command prompt and type startup.bat and it starts up successfully.
Question
How can I resolve this and what are the things I should be troubleshooting for?
I have a weird issue here.
I notice about once a week the web server restarts itself. This would be only a minor issue if we were not planning on implementing an IP failover.
I have checked the event logs. I don't see anything that indicates a reason for the restart.
I need some help diagnosing the reason the server restarts. It happened last night at 5:00AM
Last even in the log was 1 hour before the unexpected shutdown.
Here is the Log for the shutdown event. Any help is much appreciated. I know there isn't much to go on yet.

I've set up an account "SQLBOX" thats on the a network, but not connected to the domain.
I have installed an instance of SQL Server 2008 and am trying to connect to it from another machine on the network but am getting "Cannot connect to "SQLBOX"".
From the "SQLBOX" i can connect to sqlservers on the domain, but not vice-versa.
Any help would be grately appreciated. Sorry if the description isn't great.
