Hi,
I have a raster file (basically 2D array) with close to a million points. I am trying to extract a circle from the raster (and all the points that lie within the circle. Using ArcGIS is exceedingly slow for this. Can anyone suggest any image processing library that is both easy to learn and powerful and quick enough for something like this?
Thanks!

If you don't care about minifying your code, is there a way to get started using the Google Closure library without having to set up a subversion client and use the compiler? The Notepad sample program on Google's website refers to
<script src="closure-library/base.js" > </script >
Can you simply download closure-library/base.js somewhere and start playing with the UI examples? The Closure Lite quick-start version doesn't appear to include goog.ui
Is there an efficient, quick and simple example of doing differential b/w image compression? Or even better, some simple (but lossless) streaming technique which could accept a number of frames as input?
I have a simple b/w image (320x200) stream, displaying something similar to a LED display, which is updated about once a second using AJAX. Images are pretty similar most of the time, so if I subtracted them, result would compress pretty well (even with simple RLE). Is something like this available?
Quick question, is it possible to have an input field in a form use a non-system font in html5 and css3? So if someone types in the form field the text could be something like gotham?
What is a quick, elegant way of using MatLab to form a subarray around a particular element? Element are selected randomly from the data, so you can't take a subarray in the normal way (it has to be generalized for the elements that are selected). What I mean is, forming an array for example 5x5 or 7x7 or something, where the middle element is the one you want.
I would like to validate an embedded form field before it gets saved in the database. Currently it will save an empty value into the database if the form field is empty. I'm allowing empty fields, but I want nothing inserted if the form field is empty.
Also quick question, how to alter field values before validating/saving an embedded form field?
$this-form-getObject works in the action, but $this-embeddedForm-getObject says object not found
Hey just a quick question for any experts out there. I have a site that lets users interact through messages and to sign up you just make a username and password, verify your age, and optionally, add an email. There isn't really any sensitive information I suppose. Is it worth using https. Will it prevent session hi jacking and will it hinder performance?
This is a simple one. I want to replace a sub-string with another sub-string on client-side using Javascript.
Original string is 'original READ ONLY'
I want to replace the 'READ ONLY' with 'READ WRITE'
Any quick answer please? Possibly with a javascript code snippet...
Hi all,
I have a rather large database that has alot of decimal columns in alot of tables, the customer has now changed their mind and wants all the numbers (decimals) to have a precision of 3 d.p. instead of the original two. Is there any quick way of going through all the tables in a database and changing any decimal column in that table to have 3.d.p instead of 2 d.p?
The db is on sql 2005.
Any help would be great.
Is there a quick and easy way to backup both SQL Server 2008 and MySQL, all their databases?
Right now I have a batch script that runs, but I have to manually add a database each and every time, and I'm sick of maintaining it. So I want to set it up to backup all SQL Server and then all MySQL, I dont care if its two different solutions, just want the ability to backup all the databases without having to type them in.
Thank you.
I noticed some people don't bother having the usual incremented number as ID but instead simply generate a GUID. The advantages include:
Quick and easy
No need to keep track of previous IDs
Guaranteed to be unique even across machines without knowledge of each other
Some disadvantages are:
Possibly performance bottleneck
Uses a large number of bytes
My understanding is that using a GUID is beneficial in most cases, except if optimization for time or space is an issue. Did I miss something? Or do you agree with this idea?
Hi all,
I am wondering what is the kind of object that shows up when in the Contact application, you hit search option, what is it ? a Custom Quick Search Bar, a custom notificaction bar, other idea ...
An image of what I am talking about is available here : http://www.developpez.net/forums/attachments/p60921d1270798944/java/general-java/java-mobiles/android/cet-objet-image-jointe/screen-shot-2010-04-09-at-9.37.38-am.png/

Okay this has been lingering in my head for quite a while now.
In ruby on rails unit testing there is an exclamation mark with the assert method. Here is an example
test "No empty values to be inserted" do
product = Produce.new
assert !product.save
end
Let me know the function of the exclamation mark. Quick replies appreciated. Thanks.
By default, printf() seems to align strings to the right.
printf("%10s %20s %20s\n", "col1", "col2", "col3");
/* col1 col2 col3 */
I can also align text to the left like this:
printf("%-10s %-20s %-20s", "col1", "col2", "col3");
Is there a quick way to center text? Or do I have to write a function that turns a string like test into (space)(space)test(space)(space) if the text width for that column is 8?
Quick question playing with PL SQL it seems that the tables column was named as the data type NUMBER so trying to perform a query fails since the column is being recognized as a datatype instead of a column name. Anyone know how to get around this without modifying the schema?
If my applications run on a same computer or even on different computers in a same LAN and need intense and quick communication, it seems illogical for me to use text-encoded web services and HTTP. I could possibly use IP/TCP/UDP sockets and invent my own protocols, but believe there is a standard way for .Net applications to send/receive object instances (and, maybe, even sharing an object by reference?). Can you tell me what's that standard way? I am only interested in .Net Framework 4 applications and don't need to support legacy frameworks.
Dear All:
I am battling with Ivy (I tried maven but had an event more difficult time setting up the JBoss repository for Hibernate).
Quick question - I am using this wonderful package:
http://ooweb.sourceforge.net/index.html
Unfortunately, the JAR is only available through Sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ooweb/files/ooweb/0.8.0/ooweb-0.8.0-bin.tar.gz/download
Is there a way to get Ivy to download a specific JAR?
For that matter, is it possible to do with Maven?
Thank you!
Misha
Hello,
I have two quick questions:
When do two file descriptors point to the same open file ?
When do two open files point to the same inode ?
Also, if you happen to have some good documentation with graphs explaining this, i'll be very grateful if you show me the link to it :)
Thanks!
Hi,
I'm trying to connect to a server that the user inputs. When the server doesn't exist, I'd like to give a quick feedback to the end-user so he can correct what he's typed.
Is there any way to test if a server exists before trying to connect ?
Thanks
A quick question.
How many copies of the same movie are kept in a video server (a video streaming server)? Suppose a particular video is at max requested by 1000 users at the same instant of time, how many copies would be sufficient so that parallel streams can be provided to each user? Ideally 1 copy would solve the purpose, but what is the optimum number keeping the bandwidth and simultaneous access in mind?
Hey guys,
I've been reading about the new native client support for chrome and I was wondering what are the advantages/disavantages compared to writing Java applet with a certificate?
Quick note: A java applet with a security certificate can execute code on the user machine and "by-pass" the Java Security Manager.
Thanks,
