Hi there:
What does the word "dead beef" mean? I read it from a interview question. It has something to do with ipv6. I figured it could be a random hex number used for examples, like "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog".
Is my understanding correct? Or it has more significant meaning?
Thanks!
I have a large (40 Mo) SDF database.
Some queries are very long, but can become quick after some time.
I would like to try to tidy up my indexes but I only find information for SQL Server and not for SQL CE.
I'm running that method in quick succession as fast as I can, and the faster the better, so obviously if CGDataProviderCopyData() is actually copying the data byte-for-byte, then I think there must be a faster way to directly access that data...it's just bytes in memory. Anyone know for sure if CGDataProviderCopyData() actually copies the data? Or does it just create a new pointer to the existing data?
I was reading ICU documentation and came across this fine advice:
For common tasks like this there are
libraries of freely available regular
expressions that have been well
debugged. It's worth making a quick
search before writing a new
expression.
To which libraries of well-debugged regular expressions do you commonly refer?
I'm not much taken with http://regexlib.com where the expressions don't seem all that well debugged. It appears to have no QA process besides user comments and ratings.
Quick question, my data model is a singleton object and it contains a list of names I want archive. My idea is to make the model responsible for loading / saving this data. The ModelLoad will then be called by the ViewControllerviewDidLoad and the ModelSave by ViewControllerapplicationWillTerminate. I could do the load / save directly within the ViewController, but this would be messy as the list of names are on instance variable of the model.

Looking for a quick way to type an enter or return key in Selenium. Unfortunately the form I'm trying to test (not my own code so I can't modify) doesn't have a submit button. When working with it manually, I just type enter or return, and just need to know how to do that with the Selenium "type" command
I need a quick jump start for using Spring and Hibernate together and I was looking for some sample code to modify and extend. Bonus points for Struts2 and Spring Security integration.
We had an outsourced engineer work on a quick feature DELETING items listed in our database. He says that the code is difficult because the "controller" is missing. Is there a pre-loaded controller for every function like that in cake, or is it weird that he is expecting a controller to be there for a feature we didn't have yet.
Hello guys,
A quick question: how do I programatically select the text fragment of the page in FireFox? For example, there's a paragraph of text, user clicks the button and symbols from 10-th to 15-th are selected as if user dragged a mouse in a regular way.
Quick question.
I have a js function which gets called on the page every few seconds. It's an ajax update thing.
Being a function, I declare local variables. I don't want to use closures or global variables for various reasons.
I'd never considered this, but do I need to release/clear the variables at the end of the function to release memory or will js do this for me automatically ?
Thanks
I can already see that I'm not going to enjoy the experience, but I have to do some sql cleanup on this 1000 file asp classic web-app, and before I get to hacking away at it I'd like to be aware of any major gotchas to watch out for with asp classic/sql parameter preparing/asp whitespace altering. What are some good quick overview resources, and what should I watch out for?
I have a job interview coming up next week and I understand there is an open book test with some quick technical questions.
I've never done a open book test and I'm unsure as to what it involves.
How could I let a user jot a quick hand-written note on an iPad using a Pogo-like stylus? (Or by using their finger, some kind of stylus makes it more legible feasible.)
Initial thoughts:
1) Open GL canvas?
2) Store the output as a .png/.jpg snapshot of the openGL screen (by taking a screenhot of the iPad?
3) Would the note be limited to one screenshot, could there be a scrollable area notepad to write out a long note?
I want to know , What is the advantage of Lucene searching and indexing ?
Is searching with Lucene as fast as other searching algorithm like Quick Search?
What about indexing ?
I want to know more about advantage of Lucene rather that others .
thanks .
Hi,
This is a quick question. I have the following ruby code, which works fine.
def add_zeros number, zeros
number = number.to_s
zeros_to_add = zeros - number.length
zeros_to_add.times do
number = "0#{number}"
end
number
end
But if I replace
number = "0#{number}"
With
number.insert(0, "0")
Then I get TypeError: can't modify frozen string, does anyone know why this is?
I was re-reading Joel's Strategy Letter II: Chicken and Egg problems and came across this fun quote:
In fact, WordStar was ported to DOS
by changing one single byte in the
code. (Real Programmers can tell you
what that byte was, I've long since
forgotten).
I couldn't find any other references to this with a quick Google search. Is this true or just a figure of speech? In the interest of my quest to become a "Real Programmer", what was the single byte change?
Hello there,
I'm hoping someone could help me with a quick point in the right direction. ALL I NEED is the Outlook folder browser dialog call. I am developing some plugins for Outlook using C# and this is a crucial part for both plugins. Hopefully, it is like a standard DialogResult that passes back folder information (selected folder) so that I can use this info for further processing. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
im moving from a c# VS2008 world into the mac world and I just wanted to know how I can create a quick little command line based application so that I can write many little objective-c apps without worrying about creating an iPhone app or whatever.
Which projects do I create in xcode? I can see the Command Line Tool under "Mac os x" but the only options for the type is "C", "C++", "Core Data", "Core Foundation", "Core Services" and "Foundation"
but no simple objective c project?
Thanks
Hello fellow stackoverflowers, quick question. I'm using C# 3.5 and I have a date that comes in as string in the following format:
Tue Jan 20 20:47:43 GMT 2009
First question, what is the name of that format? Second question, what's the easiest and clearest way to convert this string into a datetime? I would love to be able to use a .net API/Helper method if possible.
Thanks a bunch...
I have a quadcore processor and I would really like to take advantage of all those cores when I'm running quick simulations. The problem is I'm only familiar with the small Linux cluster we have in the lab and I'm using Vista at home.
What sort of things do I want to look into for multicore programming with C or Java? What is the lingo that I want to google?
Thanks for the help.
Hello,
I am new to SVN. I want to check out a very large project over a slow connection which takes ages to download. I have zipped versions of project on both remote server and my local which are identical. Is there an easy and quick way to sync my local project with remote server without a full checkout?
Thanks
Hi,
I have a lot of experience in C and Python, but I'd like to pick up some Java. I was curious if there was a "quick and dirty" guide tailored for people with previous CS background. I'd prefer free online resources but appreciate any suggestion.
Thanks,
Brian
I'm working on a quick setup program in VS2005 and wanted to change the banner bitmap. Anyone know off-hand what the ideal (or req'ed) dimensions are for the new banner image? Thanks.
I am looking for an example which does a file upload with a progress bar, in Django.
I have been trying djangp-uploadify for quiet sometime, but have not been able to get it working.
I have been trying something similar to that given in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2821612/djangouploadify-dont-working/2887831 and also in http://wiki.github.com/tstone/django-uploadify
Quick Help would be great
