• postgres store with composite value type, or a better way of attributing an inverted index

  can't seem to figure out the syntax for populating a hstore with a value of composite type -- note: I do not want to convert a record to a hstore. select hstore('hello => ROW(1,2)'); I know it's something simple; However, google is not my friend today. use case : custom inverted index. The data is modelling an inverted index of lexemes, the composite data types are various probabilities related to the lexemes which I will use to implement document clustering. Does anyone know a better way of doing this ? I'm open to using an external system if it allows attaching attributes to key-posting pairs in the inverted index. I'd use something external if it had solid support for what I am trying to do, I suspect that sticking 3-10k lexemes per tuple and then doing batch processing on them is gonna be nasty as the whole hstore will have to be parsed and converted .

• Accessing E4X nodes having special characters in name without breaking binding chain in flex.

  I am using E4X to bind some values from xml in flex 3. There is a problem when xml tag's (or attribute's) name has special character in it: having xml content var xml:XML = <tag> <special-name att="val" /> </tag> special-name could not be accessed using xml.special-name.@att because it is interpreted as subtraction, on the other hand using square bracket notation xml['special-name'].@att breaks binding chain. Is there an elegant way to solve this (like special language syntax) without writing custom binding setters and listeners?

I currently have a .sdf database on my C:\ drive and want to connect to it in C#. I added the database as a data source and now need help figuring out how to get data from the database in my C# application. • Getting javascript mouse position relative to website prefferably without jQuery

  I've found this snippet on Ajaxian, but I can't seem to use the cursor.y (or cursor.x) as a variable and when the function is called as such it does not seem to work.   Hi, I know theres hundred of questions and answers out there, but cant find one to specifically answer this. I need a web editor that will let me choose a dark themed editor. I understand gvim is one, but im not totally ready to let go of my mouse. I would like something like sublime text editor for windows, but open to other suggestions. The less bloat the best. I dont need a full IDE like eclipse, but willing to compromise, as long as the themes can easily be added. I've tried bluefish, kompozer and not happy with them. Just need a basic text editor that will highlight php syntax on a dark background.

• Rack::ResponseHeaders in rackup for Sinatra

  I think this is a very easy one, but I can't seem to get it right. Basically, I'm trying to use Rack middleware to set a default Cache-Control header into all responses served by my Sinatra app. It looks like Rack::ResponseHeaders should be able to do exactly what I need, but I get an error when attempting to use the syntax demonstrated here in my rackup file: use Rack::ResponseHeaders do |headers| headers['X-Foo'] = 'bar' headers.delete('X-Baz') end I was able to get Rack::Cache to work successfully as follows: use Rack::Cache, :default_ttl => 3600 However, this doesn't achieve exactly the output I want, whereas Rack::ResponseHeaders gives fine-grained control of the headers. FYI, my site is hosted on Heroku, and the required Rack gems are specified in my .gems manifest. Thanks! Update: After doing some research, it looks like the first issue is that Rack::ResponseHeaders is not found in the version of rack-contrib (0.9.2) which was installed. I'll start by looking into that.

  I have multiple client databases that I need to hit on the fly and I am having trouble getting the code I have to work. At first I was just storing a connection string in a clinet object in the db, pulling it out based on logged-in user, and passing it to linq data context constructor. This works fine in my development enviorment but is failing on the Winhost server I am using. It is running SQL 2008. I am getting a "The current configuration system does not support user scoped settings." error. Any help or guidance on this issue is greatly appreciated. Greg

• Python del() built-in can't be used in assignment?

  I noticed a problem when I was trying to use del in a lambda to thin out a list of threads to just those running: map(lambda x: del(x) if not x.isAlive() else x, self.threads) Ignore for a second that this doesn't do anything, I'm just fooling around with map, reduce, and lambda. This fails with a syntax error at del(x). With some messing around, I think the problem is del() doesn't return a value. For example, this fails with the same error: b = 5 x = del(b) This doesn't, however: def rmThis(x): del(x) Which means I'm using this workaround: map(lambda x: rmThis(x) if not x.isAlive() else x, self.threads) So is the limitation just because del() doesn't return a value? Why not? I'm using python 2.6.2

I do not really know if this is scientifically proven, but I've read in a book (It was a relatively modern AI book by Peter Norvig) that secon-order logical programming could be more expressive than existing first-order languages. The question is: Is it statistically/symbolically proven that higher-order predicate logics exceed first-order predicates in their expressive power? Or they just bring the modularity/convenience/maintainability to your knowledge bases? Additionally: If there is some kind of firm direction in which I could go seeking more expressive power than I have (I mean exactly the descriptive potential of the symbols I write in given semantics/syntax) - then I would be glad to hear just almost everything :) Thank you.

Consider the following example, which prints "Inner" and then "Child". class Outer { class Inner { Inner() { System.out.println("Inner"); } } } public class Child extends Outer.Inner { Child(Outer o) { o.super(); System.out.println("Child"); } public static void main(String args[]) { new Child(new Outer()); } } I understand that instances of Inner always have to be associated with an Outer instance, and that that applies to Child too since it extends Inner. My question is what the o.super() syntax means - why does it call the Inner constructor? I've only seen a plain super(args) used to call the superclass constructor and super.method() to call the superclass version of an overridden method, but never something of the form instance.super().

  I've created a class in Javscript using the prototype Class.Create complete with the initialize function and a few other functions. However, in one of my functions I want to reference another function in the same class, but cannot seem to get the syntax correct. e.g. var sampleClass = Class.create({ initialize: function(){ //do the init work here }, functionA: function(){ //do some more stuff here } functionB: function(){ //Do some stuff functionA() } } I've tried calling functionA() , this.functionA() but nothing works I just get errors. I know how to call the functions externally when the class has been instantiated, but not reference a function from within the class itself. Thanks

• Better to use constructor or method factory pattern?

  I have a wrapper class for the Bitmap .NET class called BitmapZone. Assuming we have a WIDTH x HEIGHT bitmap picture, this wrapper class should serve the purpose of allowing me to send to other methods/classes itself instead of the original bitmap. I can then better control what the user is or not allowed to do with the picture (and I don't have to copy the bitmap lots of times to send for each method/class). My question is: knowing that all BitmapZone's are created from a Bitmap, what do you find preferrable? Constructor syntax: something like BitmapZone bitmapZone = new BitmapZone(originalBitmap, x, y, width, height); Factory Method Pattern: BitmapZone bitmapZone = BitmapZone.From(originalBitmap, x , y, width, height); Factory Method Pattern: BitmapZone bitmapZone = BitmapZone.FromBitmap(originalBitmap, x, y, width, height); Other?   I'd like to have Ant automatically include or import resources matching a particular pattern, but I'm really struggling with the syntax. Here's what I've tried: <import> <fileset dir="${basedir}" includes="*-graph.xml" /> </import> However, I just get the error message import requires file attribute or at least one nested resource The documentation for import (and include) both say that you can use a nested resource collection, and the documentation for resource collections says <fileset> is a resource collection. I've Googled and can't find any useful examples at all. I'm using Ant 1.8.1 (verified with ant -version)

• WinForm - WPF integration; Piece by Piece

  I have a medium sized WinForm App (1 Form that hosts 40 user controls) that we use in house. I want to migrate over to WPF but I cannot do a Mass ReRelease. My idea was, for now, to recreate the App 1 User Control at a time in WPF and have that hosted in the existing WinForm App. I would make them look nearly identical, at this point, so there would be no need for mass retraining. My question is more to the point of, has any one else tried this and how does the data portion work. I have recreated one of the WinForms User Controls as a WPF user Control. Do I need to publish that as a User Control Library? How, then, would I access the DAL for that UC? I use a Linq to Sql data layer.
