  • Automounting AFP Share For OpenDirectory Users (Mac Lion Server)

    We're moving all our Mac's from local logins to OpenDirectory logins in an effort to keep everything secure and to also solve issues we have with a Tiger server buggering permissions on an AFP shared drive. To cut it short, I want users to be able to login to their OpenDirectory account and I then want the AFP share point to mount using the credentials they just logged in with. Firstly, is this possible (I assumed it was) and secondly how might I go about doing it? Cheers, Dave

  • Windows Datacenter 2008 recovery ISO

    Hello, I am using virtualBox with windows datacenter to play around with some web development. The last time I had to shut down the computer, it installed an update and shut down normally. When I rebooted, it started doing a checkdisk and processed a bunch of files (from hard poweroffs before mabey). Now when I start, I get a bluescreen of death every time it loads (Safe mode,etc) I have googled around for a boot / recovery disk, but can't seem to find one for datacenter. Cheers -Will

    I was almost set on getting a Samsung - SyncMaster 2343BW PIVOT, due to the high resolution, pivot and uber-cheapness. But after reading the comment on this SU question, I was bummed to realize it's a TN screen, which apparently would be a pain for my inteded use ; i.e. portrait mode for reading/coding. Do you know of a comparable model that is "IPS or PVA/MVA", but won't break the bank ? cheers

    I am wondering will it affect my server if I upgrade to the latest version. Anything I should be careful about? Also, im wondering what is an intelligent way to update a ubuntu server normally. Would you update every week for instance? also would you have lots of errors to handle with scripting systems like perl/cpan modules etc, since these are always tough to install anyway with compatibility issues?   • juniper j2300 console connection?

    I've been given a Juniper Networks J2300 router, but I've never used a juniper device before and no idea where to begin on how to connect to the console of the device. I have a serial to RJ45 cable but not sure on how to connect to the device. Do I use specific software or just use something like minicom (linux hyperterminal alternative)? I've had a look on the juniper website and couldn't find anything :( Any help would be truly appreciated, cheers

    Bit of a newb using *nix (I'm actually using a bash shell in OS X 10.5) and I wondered what the probably very simple answer is to this... When I write a script (called, say, my_script) and I've saved it to the current directory, why do I have to put a period and a forward slash in front of its name to run it? Like this: ./my_script Can't the shell tell that I want to run it from the current directory? Windows seems to handle that situation. Cheers Ben

    Hello, What would be the best way to deal with large streaming media content in Intranet. We have a 50 MB file that is to be loaded to our Intranet site. Currently we have just pointed it to a file location instead of using a Data Streaming Server. This will download to each client when selected and is obviously not a good approach to accessing streaming media when accessing from overseas offices. Any suggestions? Cheers, Magic

  • NetBeans remote synchronization : failed to save file

    Hi, I'm using NetBeans in a project, making use of remote sync to save both locally and to a FTP server. This feature works in other projects, but this time is failing when trying to save the file to the remote server. The IDE log tells me that had occurred a unknown error, as well as this : Upload failed: org.netbeans.modules.php.project.connections.TransferInfo [transfered: [], failed: {index.php=Cannot upload file index.php (unknown reason).}, partially failed: {}, ignored: {}, runtime: 61136 ms] Cannot logout from server The version of the IDE is 6.8.   • SQL Server 2000 -- Log Shipping reliability?

    I've been asked to look into log shipping for SQL Server 2000 (yes, 2000): something in my memory tells me that I looked at this years ago and there were question marks over it's reliability. I'm trying to google stuff, but given the age of 2000 now I've put pulled up anything to confirm this -- most seem to say they're using it without problem, so just want confirm whether I'm just being delusional, or whether there were problems, but with a fully patched SP4 box these don't exist any more.   • Group Policy fault - Students force

    Work at a school and we've got a scenario. We block F8 on all computers so students cannot access Safe Mode to bypass Group Policy... But students are logging into their accounts using AD, and they are turning them off half way through. Then they are claiming that when they login next time, they have Local Administrator accounts. Is this right, but we have blocked F8 and Startup repair, so wondering how they actually did it. Cheers Richard

    Skype got stuck, and Windows was unable to kill the process even when the UI had disappeared. I had to restart the computer to get Skype again working.   • How can I preserve share paths when moving a share to a new server?

    Hi guys, I have 2 servers and I just moved most of the shares from server1 (SBS 2003 server) to server2 (Server 2003 Standard). However, in sharepoint there are a lot of links that refer to the old server by name, ie, \\server1\accounts.   • cpu fan keeps getting faster after removing battery

    Hi all, I have recently pulled the battery out of the motherboard on an old Acer desktop to reset the bios, but when I put the battery back in after about 3-4 hours, and start it up, the cpu fan just keeps getting faster and faster, like it won't stop at all.     I wish to use vagrant and possibly VeeWee to construct and maintain virtual machines to automate some testing of servers etc. I am having problems getting them up and running on windows.   • Squid Log Rotation and Sarg

    We have just setup squid as our proxy, and i was going to use Sarg to analyze the log files. I had initially set the Squid logs to rotate everyday so they dont get huge. The problem is i cant see an option in the squid config to read a folder full of squid log files (say *.log). Is there an easy way to do this or am i going to have to write a bash script or something to process them all into one before i get squid to read it? Cheers Luke

    looking at the things which can be done with the Parallel deployments in Tomcat 7, I wonder how new or changed configuration could be provided to these various versions of the application. In a nutshell - what parallel deployment offers is that pushing a new version of a war file to the webapps dir (with filenames like "App##01.war, "App##02.war") and ever user with a new session will get the newer version, all others stay with the old version. So how could one provide different or additional configuration (properties) to the various versions? Cheers.

  • Why would my 15" MacBook Pro suddenly ask me to Hard Quit while I was in a browser?

    I was in Firefox looking at a search I had performed in eBay and all of a sudden, the screen grayed out starting from the top down. In the middle of the screen was a box with about 5 different languages saying I had to hard quit my computer. I tried other keys on my computer and nothing was working so I hard quit and restarted.     I have added a install for Silver light to my MDT server, so it can get installed when the image gets deployed. When I boot them machines it is asking me to install the applications, how can i get it to auto install the apps without prompting.   • Corrupt tar (Resulting folder smaller than packed file)

    Hi everybody, I have an issue with a tarball created on a SuSe 10.3 Server version. The .tar file has a size of 6.5 GB but if I untar it under Ubuntu 9.10 the resulting folder only has a size of 1.5 GB. commands used: tar cvf for packing, tar xvf for unpacking. Perhaps somebody knows how this can be fixed, would be great, cheers
