  • Android internet connectivity check problem

    - by Chaoz
Hello, I'm new to Android development and working on an Android application that requires the phone to be connected to the internet, through either Wifi, EDGE or 3G. This is the code that I'm using: public static boolean isConnected() { ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE); return cm.getActiveNetworkInfo().isConnectedOrConnecting(); } I've also set these permissions in the manifest file: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE" /> This works fine in the emulator running version 1.5 of Android when 3G is enabled, but it crashes when I disable the 3G connection. My application throws a null pointer exception when I call isConnectedOrConnecting(). Hope that anyone knows the solution to this. Thanks in advance!

  • MVVM Tutorial/Example Code with internet connectivity

    - by SpikeX
I understand the View and ViewModel portions of MVVM, but what I'm still really fuzzy on is how you connect your application to data sources on the Internet (say you're grabbing some XML or JSON from the web), and specifically, where that code goes in your application. Can someone provide or link to some example code or a tutorial that walks you through setting up a simple WPF (or Silverlight) application that fetches data from the Web?

  • outlook calendar connectivity with java web service

    - by Isisagate
We currently have a java/jsp online web service that includes it's own custom calendar. I am trying to do some research into the possibility of connecting it to a users outlook. Our basic needs that are most simple is some way to sent the person a meeting request that can be added to their outlook from our service. I know the ideal solution is to sync back and forth but simply being able to import the data from our calendar into someone's outlook would be sufficient. Does anyone have any resources they can point me to that might help with information gathering, or any example/comments?

  • data parameter is nil error when checking internet connectivity

    - by JSA986
    When launching my app it checks if user is subscribed. If it dosent detect an internet connection it crashes with the error: Failed to retrieve subscription with error 'The Internet connection appears to be offline.' and responseString: (null)*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'data parameter is nil' .m [self getPath:path parameters:parameters success:^(AFHTTPRequestOperation *operation, id responseObject) { if (![responseObject isKindOfClass:[NSDictionary class]]) { failureBlock(@"Invalid response received"); return; } NSDictionary *subscriptionDict = (NSDictionary *)responseObject; if (subscriptionDict[@"error"] == nil) { DebugLog(@"Successfully retrieved subscription"); successBlock(subscriptionDict); } else { failureBlock(responseObject); } } failure:^(AFHTTPRequestOperation *operation, NSError *error) { DebugLog(@"Failed to retrieve subscription with error '%@' and responseString: %@", error.localizedDescription, operation.responseString); id responseObject = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:operation.responseData options:0 error:nil]; failureBlock(responseObject); }]; }

  • Outlook 2007 unable to connect to exchange server

    - by mattwarren
I came into the office a week ago and outlook has refused to connect ever since, it just says "Disconnected" in the bottom right-hand corner. I've tried restarting it, rebooting Windows etc. I'm the only one if our office who is having this problem, so it's not a general problem with the server. Things I've tried Pinging the server via IP address and host name, both work fine Connecting via OWA, this works using the same machine name Connecting to Exchange via HTTP ("Outlook Anywhere") doesn't work None of the suggestions in this question helped, http://serverfault.com/questions/21755/can-ping-exchange-server-cant-connect-outlook-to-it Disabling Windows firewall on my laptop also has no effect. There are no items in the event viewer that indicate that anything it up. Also no permissions have changed on the server since when it worked. Update: I've just tried logging onto a completely different PC, using my domain controller user-name/password. When I setup outlook on there it also fails, so the problem isn't specific to 1 pc/outlook it's something about my particular user name, but not when using OWA? What else can I do to diagnose this, any suggestions?

  • Mac OS X 10.6 issues connecting via vpn to Microsoft server

    - by chris hough
I am currently running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and trying to use the native vpn client to connect to our Microsoft vpn server. If I route all traffic via the vpn connection I am able to connect to our servers, however, external traffic to i.e. google or stack overflow is blocked. If I uncheck the checkbox to route all traffic via the vpn I can connect to the vpn, however, I can not connect to my servers, external traffic to google or stackoverflow works though. Is this a vpn client issue, do I need to purchase Mac OS X vpn software instead of the native client, or is there a Microsoft vpn server setting that has to be checked. I am not familiar with the server software, but I wanted to post this question here to help out our network admin with the Mac OS X machines.

  • Queston about torrents

Why do my torrents go at rate 25/30 kb/s and my regular http downloads rate up to 300 kb/s .. is my ISP to blame for this, I meant torrents have like thousand seeders and again its very slow. How are they blocking torrent speed, can I bypass it? @gekkz Results : * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all downloads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP download on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 392 Kbps while a TCP download on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 223 Kbps. You can find details here. * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all uploads at port 6881. • Cannot access Tomcat application remotely, but can access Apache applications

    - by David Keaveny
I am installing Atlassian's Confluence 4.2 on a clean Ubuntu 12.04 server. Confluence runs on Tomcat 6, and uses PostgreSQL 9.1 as its datastore. I've installed and configured phpPgAdmin to manage PostgreSQL, and Zentyal to manage the server generally. Both these applications use Apache. The problem that I am experiencing is that while I can access phpPgAdmin and Zentyal without problem from a remote PC, I can only access Confluence when running locally (either specified by localhost, IP address or host name). Instead I get an HTTP 502 Connection Failed error. By way of experimentation, I also installed Ajenti, which appears to use lighttpd rather than Apache or Tomcat, and it too works fine when connected to locally, but gives me the same HTTP 502 error when connected to remotely. So applications served from Apache work fine, but applications served from other services do not - does that ring a bell with anyone? It's been over 10 years since I last sysadmin'ed a Linux box, so I'm more than a little rusty!

  • Why does Chrome choke more often than IE 8 and Firefox?

    - by Jian Lin
On my system, Chrome chokes quite more often than IE 8 or Firefox -- it searched for the website for 20 seconds and then said website not found. I wonder if it could be due to DNS issue or different browsers use different method to connecting to the internet (as Fiddler works for some browser and not for some)? any method to fix it? (the ISP here is AT&T u-verse, if it matters). thanks.

  • Connect bluetooth headphones both to PC and phone at the same time

    - by Sergiy Byelozyorov
I have recently bought Philips SHB6110. Extract from the 13th page of manual: Therefore you can connect your Bluetooth stereo headset. with a Bluetooth stereo enabled phone to both listen to music and lead calls, or with a Bluetooth phone that does not support Bluetooth stereo (A2DP) to lead calls and at the same time to a Bluetooth audio device (Bluetooth enabled MP3 player, Bluetooth audio adapter etc.) to listen to music. Make sure to pair the phone first with your Bluetooth headset, then turn both the phone and headset off to then pair the Bluetooth audio device. With the SwitchStream feature you can listen to music and monitor your calls at the same time. Even while listening to music, you will hear a ring tone when receiving a call and can switch to the call simply by tapping the button. The manual however doesn't specify how do I connect to both device at the same time. I use Toshiba Satellite Pro P300-1CG laptop with Belkin Mini Bluetooth Adapter and Nokia N95 phone. Operating system is Windows 7 64-bit and I have Skype installed. Both phone and compute can be used for listening to music and talking on the phone (on PC via Skype). Best solution would be if I could connect to PC and phone as the same time and monitor calls both mobile and Skype calls while listening music from Winamp. If that is not possible, then I would like at least to be able to listen music from PC, while monitoring calls from mobile. So, please tell me how do I connect both PC and phone to headphones?

  • Wifi network undetectable on a Lenovo G470

    - by Rex
I have a WPA2 secured network with a visible SSID at home that works perfectly fine with a Dell laptop,a HP netbook and sundry mobile phones. When I try connecting my sister's Lenovo G470, it refuses to detect the wifi network no matter what, but shows up the neighbors' networks. The Lenovo also works correctly at her office. Both laptops run Windows 7. Already tried/checked the following: Manually configure wifi network settings (copied over from the Dell) Ensure there is no MAC address filtering on the router. Ensure router DHCP server is not running out of addresses to assign (I have set it to allocate upto 10). Reboot laptop, router etc. Is this a known problem, and is there anything else one could try? Update - The problematic Lenovo uses Windows 7 Home Basic while the Dell that works uses Home Premium and the HP netbook uses Starter edition - if that makes any difference. Further update - It is able to connect if I reboot into safe mode with networking. However in 'normal' mode it shows up the network sporadically, and then says there was an error connecting to it. All the network parameters, password, encryption, etc etc are EXACTLY the same as they are on the Dell.

  • What are the steps to set up a Hyper-V solution with one NIC

    - by Cameron Aziz
    I have successfully installed centos on a virtual machine via Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2. This server has one NIC. I have created a virtual NIC, and virtual subnet, and within the virtual machine (via console) I can ping the gateway. But not google. Is there certain steps I am missing, I feel like I'm one setting away. Im not sure what other information would be useful. Here is the ipconfig of the host: Ethernet adapter vNIC losangeles1_1: Connection-specific DNS Suffix .. : IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.10.0.1 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: Connection-specific DNS Suffix .. : IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 72.51.43.43 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.192 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 72.51.43.1

  • Windows Server 2008 R2, weird intermittent outgoing connection issues, & Hyper-V Virtual Network

    - by brizz
My provider says that they run an 'unfiltered' network, so it's not a network issue. Not entirely convinced...but they aren't being very helpful. Basically two days ago started having issues with DNS completely stop working for anywhere between 2-20minutes. This happens roughly every 1-2 hours at least once. I later then found that I am unable to ping ANY external IP address when this is going on. So it's not a DNS issue. Whats even more odd is when this is going on, I STAY connected via RDP, and I can access webpages, etc that are on the server when I access from my home computer. Have tried disabling the firewall--no fix. Have checked Event viewer, the only thing that is there is a warning that DNS has stopped working. I have made no changes/updates to the server. The only thing I have done is add an IP address (don't think it has anything to do with the problem, but wanted to mention everything). Any help/insight/suggestions on how to go about debugging would be much appreciated! update: I am also running Hyper-V, and a virtual network. I just tried pinging (when I have issues), from a Hyper-V machine--and it works, when the main server doesn't.

  • Can't connect to MS SQL Server database using SSMS

    - by Charles
I have a database on line with Godaddy (who uses SQL Server 2005). They provide basic management tools, but tell you that for more advanced tools you can connect directly using SSMS. I followed their instructions to ensure my online database will accept remote connections, and can apparently log in using SSMS with success (after giving my hostname and access data). However: Now from in SSMS, when attempting to expand the "Databases" folder tree, I get the following error: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc) An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) The server principal "cmitchell" is not able to access the database "3pointdb" under the current security context. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 916) The irony is that 3pointdb isn't my database. It is just another in a long list of databases that show up when I access my Godaddy backend. From SSMS, I selected the default database to be the name of my database, which it did locate on the list when I browsed. Still same error message. It is trying to connect to a database that isn't mine! :( Godaddy support, after a bit of testing, said the problem isn't on their end. it's on mine. – Charles

  • I can't connect to my network, except in safe mode

    - by eidylon
My laptop cannot connect to my network all of a sudden except in safe mode. When it boots, it will show the networks available in the tray popup, but if I click connect on any, it says "Unable to connect" and the troubleshooter is useless. Shortly thereafter all the networks disappear. I have tried removing IPv6 support as I have seen that cause problems. No joy. I've also tried removing the wireless network adapter in Device Manager and reinstalling it, also no joy. I've also tried attaching a USB wireless adapter, and it has the same problem. If I boot in safe mode, then it has no problems at all. Three other devices in the house connect fine, so I am pretty sure it is nothing to do with the router. Any ideas what to check next? I am running Win7 Ultimate on a 2GHz Quadcore with 8GB RAM with a Broadcom 802.11n wireless card. EDIT: RE wired connections: What is very weird is that if i plug in a wired connection, then not only does it connect via the wired connection, but the wireLESS also starts working perfectly. And a soon as I unplug the wire, then the wireLESS stops working again! So it seems the wireless is right now working only in safe-mode, or when a wired connection is also plugged in.
