  • Server 2008 locks me out when not using the machine for 10 minutes after installing SP2

    I have recently installed Service Pack 2 on my Windows Server 2008 machine (which I use actively for development, and i'm always logged on to). Now, after this installation, when I don't use the machine for some time (let's say, 10 minutes), it locks itself so I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del and log back in. I have already checked the Screen Saver settings, and it's "None", as it always has been. I also looked into power settings and everything looks right (20 mins to turn off monitor, and i haven't found any settings regarding locking me in there). Do you have any idea what I can do so that it won't lock me out after not using the machine for a while? Thanks! Daniel

  • Finding day of week in batch file? (Windows Server 2008)

    I have a process I run from a batch file, and i only want to run it on a certain day of the week. Is it possible to get the day of week? All the example I found, somehow rely on "date /t" to return "Friday, 12/11/2009", however, in my machine, "date /t" returns "12/11/2009". No weekday there. I've already checked the "regional settings" for my machine, and the long date format does include the weekday. The short date format doesn't, but i'd really rather not change that, since it'll affect a bunch of stuff I do. Any ideas here? Thanks! Daniel

  • Iphone SDK dismissing Modal ViewControllers on ipad by clicking outside of it

    Hello, I want to dismiss a FormSheetPresentation modal view controller when the user taps outside the modal view...I have seen a bunch of apps doing this (ebay on ipad for example) but i cant figure out how since the underneath views are disabled from touches when modal views are displayed like this (are they presenting it as a popover perhaps?)...anyone have any suggestions? Since RSS readers are kinda flaky, in my experience, I'd like to test how my feeds look in as many readers as possible. I only use Google Reader.     I have the following data in my database: MemberID | DateTime ------------------------------------- 1 | 31/03/2010 3:45:49 PM 2 | 31/03/2010 3:55:29 PM 1 | 31/03/2010 4:45:49 PM Every time a user is authenticated or un-authenticated this log appears in the database. What I want to be able to do is total the time for a given user and date. Member 1 was online for 1 hour and 37 minutes.     Hi all, A fellow developer on a project I am on believes that doctests are as good as unit-tests, and that if a piece of code is doctested, it does not need to be unit-tested. I do not believe this to be the case. Can anyone provide some solid, ideally cited, examples either for or against the argument that doctests do not replace the need for unit-tests?   • CakePHP: Can I ignore a field when reading the Model from the DB?

    In one of my models, I have a "LONGTEXT" field that has a big dump of a bunch of stuff that I never care to read, and it slows things down, since I'm moving much more data between the DB and the web app. Is there a way to specify in the model that I want CakePHP to simply ignore that field, and never read it or do anything with it? I really want to avoid the hassle of creating a separate table and a separate model, only for this field. Thanks! Daniel

    Hi, I'm trying to read data from a webpage, and I have to do it using JAVA. When I try to do it in Eclipse using JAVA i'm getting time out error: java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect (Using HttpURLConnection) In order to understand where is the problem I tried doing the same task using c# and VS2008, and it worked perfectly fine, no time out at all.   • Plone Active Directory group filter

    I am currently trying to configure the Plone LDAP plugin for Active directory. Thus far all is good and I’m getting users and groups through. The usage is for Cyn.In However the problem I’m facing is thus: The users search has the ability to filter, which is great. I can use the memberOf or department filter to just grab the users I want. However all our groups simply live in one OU, which means I’m getting over 30 pages of groups of which 99% are just not necessary. Sadly I don’t have control over our AD, so can’t just shift the ones I want into their own OU. Is there any way you can think of to also filter groups based on some kind of LDAP criteria?

    I'm having a problem with libvirt. On a system restart all virtual machines (VMs) are started without a problem and keep running. Then at some point in time a set of machines shuts down according to their log. The problem seems to occurs since the last restart, which was due to a number of package upgrades and a kernel upgrade. I tried booting with the previous kernel, the problem persists. I was not able to pinpoint an exact event when the machines fail, they do it at nearly the same time. The last time a duplicity job was running, this was not always the case however.     I've set-up a Linux software raid level 5 consisting of 4 * 2 TB disks. The disk array was created with a 64k stripe size and no other configuration parameters. After the initial rebuild I tried to create a filesystem and this step takes very long (about half an hour or more). I tried to create an xfs and ext3 filesystem, both took a long time, with mkfs.ext3 I observed the following behaviour, which might be helpful: writing inode tables runs fast until it reaches 1053 (~ 1 second), then it writes about 50, waits for two seconds, then the next 50 are written (according to the console display) when I try to cancel the operation with Control+C it hangs for half a minute before it is really canceled The performance of the disks individually is very good, I've run bonnie++ on each one separately with write / read values of around 95 / 110MB/s. Even when I run bonnie++ on every drive in parallel the values are only reduced by about 10 MB. So I'm excluding hardware / I/O scheduling in general as a problem source. I tried different configuration parameters for stripe_cache_size and readahead size without success, but I don't think they are that relevant for the file system creation operation. The server details: Linux server 2.6.35-27-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux mdadm - v2.6.7.1 Does anyone has a suggestion on how to further debug this?

  • Baffling Exchange 2010 issue , Outlook 2003

    Recently we upgraded from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. The Exchange 2003 server is still up and active with a handful of users still there we are planning on migrating. Also we have mobile devices and a Blackberry BES server setup publishing to Exchange 2010 public folders free busy. The unfortunate issue is majority of our clients are still Outlook 2003. The issue seems to be hit and miss but sometime clients cannot view other client’s calendars. They get (cannot refresh free/busy) when they add another user and check their available times. This is also true with booking resources (conference rooms) . One thing we noticed is that the Blackberry BES seems to have created its own free/busy folders, so we have some users who use the BES on free/busy folder and other users who don’t use the BES on other free/busy folders. If any of the clients log-in via “Exchange 2010” web-access or with a Outlook 2007 client they can view the calendaring just fine. Thanks for your help Nick @Toshana

  • Solution to Manage and Monitor (Ubuntu) Machines

    I'm looking for a tool like Canonical (system management and monitoring for Ubuntu) that is Open Source and free. The goal is to manage a dozen or so KVM machines for private testing purposes. I know of puppet and munin or RHQ as separate tools to manage and monitor, but I'd prefer something integrated. Any tips? Basic requirements would be: system package management and update (individual selection for each managed node) configuration of basic system services (Users, NFS, cron, ideally also Apache) monitoring (charting of system resources, disk, io, memory, etc) and alerting, ideally a default configuration with sensible values for alerts

  • Open Source Outlook and Exchange Alternative (for Calendar and Tasks)

    We're using an Exchange Server and Outlook in a private context. Since Exchange is getting more and more of a monster to maintain and is basically the only thing running on a Windows VM Server, I'm looking for an alternative with the following properties: Server based back-end that that can be installed / deployed on my machine and is not dependent on any third party services (e.g. Google Calendar). (Easy) import of existing Outlook calendars, either via some feature of Exchange or by ex- and importing from Outlook. Roughly the basic features of the Outlook calendar (categorizations, series, etc) Synchronization with the iPhone over wireless without a hitch (e.g. double or missing entries) Any recommendations?

  • Windows 8 switch user is very slow

    I recently upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7. One major annoyance is how slow the "switch user" command is. In Windows 7 switching users was fairly fast. I've got an SSD drive with pretty good hardware, so I'm suspecting it's something with Windows 8, either a defect, or the fact that I upgraded from Windows 7 instead of doing a clean install. Anybody have this problem? My wife is complaining enough about Windows 8 and this is one of the biggest complaints.

  • AIIM, Oracle and Keste - Talking Social Business in LA

    We had a great event today in Los Angeles - AIIM, Oracle and Keste presented on how organizations are making social business work. Atle Skjekkeland of AIIM presented How Social Business Is Driving Innovation. Atle talked about a number of fascinating points, such as how answers to questions come from unexpected sources. Atle cited the fact that 38% of organizations get half or more of answers from unexpected sources, which speaks to the wisdom of the crowds and how people are benefiting from open communications tools to get answers to their questions. He also had a number of hilarious examples of companies that don't get it. If Comcast were to go to YouTube and search Comcast, they would see the number one hit after their paid ad is a video of one of their technicians asleep on a customer's couch. Seems when he called the office for support he was put on hold so long he fell asleep. Dan O'Leary and Atle Skjekkeland After Atle's presentation I presented on Solving the Innovation Challenge with Oracle WebCenter. Atle had talked about McKinsey's research titled The Rise Of The Networked Enterprise: Web 2.0 Finds Its Payday. I brought in some new McKinsey research that built on that article. The new article is How Social Technologies Are Extending The Organization. A survey of 4,200 Global Executives brought three conclusions for the future: Boundaries among employees, vendors and customers will blur Employee teams will self-organize Data-driven decisions will rise These three items were themes that repeated through the day as we went through examples of what customers are doing today.  Next up was Vince Casarez of Keste. Vince was scheduled to profile one customer, but in an incredible 3 for 1 deal, Vince profiled Alcatel-Lucent, Qualcomm, and NetApp. Each of these implementations had content consolidation elements, as well as user engagement requirements that Keste was able to address with Oracle WebCenter.
