  • Configure EasyBox (Vodafone) with DynDNS

    - by furtelwart
How can I configure an EasyBox A601 WLAN (from Arcor resp. Vodafone) to send the IP always to DynDNS? I entered the following: Dynamic DNS [X] Diensteanbieter (DynDNS.org) Domänenname mysupersecrethost.dyndns.org (as specified in "My Host" section Konto / E-mail myaccountname Passwort mysupersecretpassword The update does not work anymore, so that my IP is not correct. The firmware is the newest available: Firmware Version: 10.02.006 (01.12.2008-11:11:59) Thanks for any hints!

  • Is it possible to make a web browser proxy tunnel with Netcat/Socat?

    - by djangofan
Concerning the Netcat/Socat utility . From the man page, it seems like it is possible to create a secure proxy using netcat by which I could point my web browser to like a proxy server , that could fork/drive my web traffic through the proxy. Is this possible? Any hints on how to do this? Socat on windows is preferrable but netcat on linux is ok. http://www.dest-unreach.org/socat/doc/socat.html

  • SELinux vs. AppArmor vs. grsecurity

    - by Marco
I have to set up a server that should be as secure as possible. Which security enhancement would you use and why, SELinux, AppArmor or grsecurity? Can you give me some tips, hints, pros/cons for those three? AFAIK: SELinux: most powerful but most complex AppArmor: simpler configuration / management than SELinux grsecurity: simple configuration due to auto training, more features than just access control

  • retrieving headers / comment blocks

    - by AnC
I have a number of log files that look like this: /* header arbitrary number of lines */ blah blah blah blah Using simple Bash commands (preferably sed, not awk), how would I retrieve only the header lines (ideally including the comment markers)? I've RTFM and tried googling, also found some hints, but not enough to get me started. Thanks!

  • What do we know about Windows 8? [closed]

    - by Larsenal
Those who have been running Win7 since the early builds (myself included) are eager to know what's coming next. While we may for the time being have little more than hearsay and hints, let's collect our collective SO knowledge on the next consumer version of Windows.

  • SQL Server Management Studio unable to connect to local instance.

    - by Ben Collins
I'm not a DBA, I'm a developer - and I'm having trouble with SQL Server Management studio. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard on Windows 2008 Server R2, and according to Sql Server Configuration Manager, I've got two instances: OFFICESERVERS (for sharepoint) and MSSQLSERVER. When I open SQL Server Management Studio I can only discover OFFICESERVERS. I've checked the protocol configuration for both instances and didn't see anything that indicates to me why this would be. Any hints?

  • Does putting the XFS log on an SSD significantly improve performance?

    - by Paul Wagland
I have a five disk array running XFS in RAID5, and I would like to improve it's performance. I have seen some hints that putting the log onto a separate device can help, does putting the log onto an SSD help dramtically? In theory, it should, but I have not been able to find any case studies where someone has actually done this, and buying an SSD and then having it not work well would be inconvenient at best…

  • OpenDNS-like 404 page in home network

    - by Dmbekker
People who use OpenDNS and go to a non-existing domain are getting a nice fancy search page telling them that the domain doesn't exists instead of the browser error page. Here in my home network we have a Windows 2008 R2 server with the DNS role enabled. Is there any way to make my own fancy looking error page to show up at all computers when they enter a domain not found by the local DNS server and the forwarders / root hints servers?

  • Cannot reset an network interfaces without a reboot

    - by yangchenyun
I have edited the /etc/network/interfaces file and I use the sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart. After restart, the eth1 interfaces don't setup properly. I need a hard reboot to enable this configuration. Meanwhile the command line hints: Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces. Am I using the run command to restart network interfaces? auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 192.168.1.87 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1

  • NBX v3001 new phone account: all incoming calls directly diverted to voicemail

    - by Pitto
That's my problem: I've added a new user in our NBX v3001 3com (now hp) and all the incoming calls are diverted, without ringing, to the voicemail. The phone is a Sip Endpoint Terminal and I really don't have a clue why this is happening since I've installed other identical phones without troubles. I've also tried deleting and re-adding the user and changing the extension: nothing. Any hints to solve?

  • Configure APC for maximum hit rate

    - by Steven De Groote
I'm currently running php5 with APC, the latter with default configuration. However after setting up munin to monitor APC, I'm surprised by the results: apc.shm_size: 30 apc.gc_ttl: 3600 apc.ttl: 0 Used: 14MB Request rate: 100 requests/second Fragmentation: 0 Hit ratio: 80% (dropping to 0 a few times per hour) So the obvious question: how can I adapt the configuration to achieve a higher hitrate. I find it very strange that the available memory is not fully used which the hitratio is still below what I would expect. Thank for any hints!
