  • Process Rules!

    - by Ajay Khanna
One of the key components of a process is “Business Rule”. Business rule takes many forms inside your process definition and in a way is a manifestation of your company’s business policy. Business rules inside the process are used for policy enforcement, governance, decision management, operations efficiency etc. Following are some basic types of rules that can be a part of your process. 1. Process conditions:  These are defined as the process gateways that determine a path process will take depending on the process parameters. For Example, if discount >10% go to approval path : if discount < 10% auto-approve order. 2. Data rules: These business rules are defined as facts in decision table or knowledge base. The process captures all required parameters and submits those to RETE based rules engine. Rules engine processes the data and returns the result back. For example, rules determining your insurance eligibility. 3. Event rules: Here the system is monitoring the various events and events patterns that are emerging inside the process or external to the process. You can define actions or alerts to be triggered when a certain pattern of events emerges over a specified time period. Such types of rules need Complex Event Processing and are used in applications like Credit Card Fraud detection or Utility Demand Response. 4. User Interface Rules: In order to add dynamic behavior to UI or to keep users from making mistakes and enforcing policy, another mechanism available is UI rules. They are evaluated as the end user is filling out the web forms. These may include enabling and disabling of UI as per business policy. An example could be, if the age of a user is less than 13 years, disable credit card field and enable parental approval required checkbox. Your process may include many of such rule types. Oracle OpenWorld provides a unique opportunity to listen to Oracle Business Process Management Experts and Customers.  We will discuss business rules during various sessions in Oracle OpenWorld. Two of the sessions specifically focused on business rules are listed below: Accelerating an Implementation of Complex Worldwide Business Approval Rules Wednesday, Oct 3, 10:15 AM Moscone South – 305 Oracle Business Rules Use Cases Design and Testing Wednesday, Oct 3, 3:30 PM Marriott Marquis - Golden Gate C3   Oracle Business Process Management Track covers a variety of topics, and speakers covering technology, methodology and best practices. • Best practice to identify and kill hanging process, when system hangs and reacts slowly on user input?

    - by NES
Recently when I tried to open a video with VLC, my system slowed down, the open applications webbrowser, VLC and filemanager and others didn't react any longer. The mouse just reacted still very slowly. On a windows machine i would press a keycombi CTRL-ALT-DEL to open the taskmanager, search the process which caused the hang and kill it. Since i'm fairly new with the use of linux i haven't figured out the best practice for solve such a situation in Ubuntu. Which quick and effective way would you recommend to identify the hanging process and close it, when the system already reacts very slowly on user input?

  • Robustly killing Windows programs stuck reporting 'problems'

    - by grrussel
I am looking for a means to kill a Windows exe program that, when being tested from a python script, crashes and presents a dialog to the user; as this program is invoked many times, and may crash repeatedly, this is not suitable. The problem dialog is the standard reporting of a Windows error: "Foo.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and offers a Debug, Send Error Report, and Don't Send buttons. I am able to kill other forms of dialog resulting from crashes (e.g. a Debug build's assert failure dialog is OK.) I have tried taskkill.exe, pskill, and the terminate() function on the Popen object from the subprocess module that was used to invoke the .exe Has anyone encountered this specific issue, and found a resolution? I expect automating user input to select the window, and press the "Don't Send" button is one possible solution, but I would like something far simpler if possible

  • Why calling Process.killProcess(Process.myPid()) is a bad idea?

    - by Tal Kanel
I've read some posts saying using this method is "not good", shouldn't been use, it's not the right way to "close" the application and it's not how android works... I understand and accept the fact that Android OS knows better then me when it's the right time to terminate the process, but I didn't heard yet a good explanation why it's wrong using the killProcess() method?. after all - it's part of the android API... what I do know is that calling this method while other threads doing in potential an important work (operations on files, writing to DB, HTTP requests, running services..) can be terminated in the middle, and it's clearly not good. also I know I can benefit from the fact that "re-open" the application will be faster, cause the system maybe still "holds" in memory state from last time been used, and killProcess() prevents that. beside this reason, in assumption I don't have such operations, and I don't care my application will load from scratch each run, there are other reasons why not using the killProcess() method? I know about finish() method to close an Activity, so don't write me about that please.. finish() is only for Activity. not to all application, and I think I know exactly why and when to use it... and another thing - I'm developing also games with the Unity3D framework, and exporting the project to android. when I decompiled the generated apk, I was very suprised to find out that the java source code created from unity - implementing Unity's - Application.quit() method, with Process.killProcess(Process.myPid()). Application.quit() is suppose to be the right way to close game according to Unity3d guides (is it really?? maybe I'm wrong, and missed something), so how it happens that the Unity's framework developers which doing a very good work as it seems implemented this in native android to killProcess()? anyway - I wish to have a "list of reasons" why not using the killProcess() method, so please write down your answer - if you have something interesting to say about that. TIA

  • TFS API-Process Template currently applied to the Team Project

    - by Tarun Arora
Download Demo Solution - here In this blog post I’ll show you how to use the TFS API to get the name of the Process Template that is currently applied to the Team Project. You can also download the demo solution attached, I’ve tested this solution against TFS 2010 and TFS 2011.    1. Connecting to TFS Programmatically I have a blog post that shows you from where to download the VS 2010 SP1 SDK and how to connect to TFS programmatically. private TfsTeamProjectCollection _tfs; private string _selectedTeamProject;   TeamProjectPicker tfsPP = new TeamProjectPicker(TeamProjectPickerMode.SingleProject, false); tfsPP.ShowDialog(); this._tfs = tfsPP.SelectedTeamProjectCollection; this._selectedTeamProject = tfsPP.SelectedProjects[0].Name; 2. Programmatically get the Process Template details of the selected Team Project I’ll be making use of the VersionControlServer service to get the Team Project details and the ICommonStructureService to get the Project Properties. private ProjectProperty[] GetProcessTemplateDetailsForTheSelectedProject() { var vcs = _tfs.GetService<VersionControlServer>(); var ics = _tfs.GetService<ICommonStructureService>(); ProjectProperty[] ProjectProperties = null; var p = vcs.GetTeamProject(_selectedTeamProject); string ProjectName = string.Empty; string ProjectState = String.Empty; int templateId = 0; ProjectProperties = null; ics.GetProjectProperties(p.ArtifactUri.AbsoluteUri, out ProjectName, out ProjectState, out templateId, out ProjectProperties); return ProjectProperties; } 3. What’s the catch? The ProjectProperties will contain a property “Process Template” which as a value has the name of the process template. So, you will be able to use the below line of code to get the name of the process template. var processTemplateName = processTemplateDetails.Where(pt => pt.Name == "Process Template").Select(pt => pt.Value).FirstOrDefault();   However, if the process template does not contain the property “Process Template” then you will need to add it. So, the question becomes how do i add the Name property to the Process Template. Download the Process Template from the Process Template Manager on your local        Once you have downloaded the Process Template to your local machine, navigate to the Classification folder with in the template       From the classification folder open Classification.xml        Add a new property <property name=”Process Template” value=”MSF for CMMI Process Improvement v5.0” />           4. Putting it all together… using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Data; using System.Drawing; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Windows.Forms; using Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client; using Microsoft.TeamFoundation.VersionControl.Client; using Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Server; using System.Diagnostics; using Microsoft.TeamFoundation.WorkItemTracking.Client; namespace TfsAPIDemoProcessTemplate { public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } private TfsTeamProjectCollection _tfs; private string _selectedTeamProject; private void btnConnect_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { TeamProjectPicker tfsPP = new TeamProjectPicker(TeamProjectPickerMode.SingleProject, false); tfsPP.ShowDialog(); this._tfs = tfsPP.SelectedTeamProjectCollection; this._selectedTeamProject = tfsPP.SelectedProjects[0].Name; var processTemplateDetails = GetProcessTemplateDetailsForTheSelectedProject(); listBox1.Items.Clear(); listBox1.Items.Add(String.Format("Team Project Selected => '{0}'", _selectedTeamProject)); listBox1.Items.Add(Environment.NewLine); var processTemplateName = processTemplateDetails.Where(pt => pt.Name == "Process Template") .Select(pt => pt.Value).FirstOrDefault(); if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(processTemplateName)) { listBox1.Items.Add(Environment.NewLine); listBox1.Items.Add(String.Format("Process Template Name: {0}", processTemplateName)); } else { listBox1.Items.Add(String.Format("The Process Template does not have the 'Name' property set up")); listBox1.Items.Add(String.Format("***TIP: Download the Process Template and in Classification.xml add a new property Name, update the template then you will be able to see the Process Template Name***")); listBox1.Items.Add(String.Format(" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -")); } } private ProjectProperty[] GetProcessTemplateDetailsForTheSelectedProject() { var vcs = _tfs.GetService<VersionControlServer>(); var ics = _tfs.GetService<ICommonStructureService>(); ProjectProperty[] ProjectProperties = null; var p = vcs.GetTeamProject(_selectedTeamProject); string ProjectName = string.Empty; string ProjectState = String.Empty; int templateId = 0; ProjectProperties = null; ics.GetProjectProperties(p.ArtifactUri.AbsoluteUri, out ProjectName, out ProjectState, out templateId, out ProjectProperties); return ProjectProperties; } } } Thank you for taking the time out and reading this blog post. • PyQt: How to Know Progress of a Process Running background

    - by krishnanunni
Hello there. Im in real confusion with the ProgressBar mechanisms. However now i need help on this "Can we know the percentage completion or time remaining of completion of a Process, that has been initiated from a Qt interface like this ` self.process = QProcess() self.connect(self.process, SIGNAL("readyReadStdout()"), self.readOutput) self.connect(self.process, SIGNAL("readyReadStderr()"), self.readErrors) tarsourcepath="sudo tar xvpf "+ self.path1 self.process.setArguments(QStringList.split(" ",tarsourcepath)) self.textLabel3.setText(self.__tr("Extracting.....")) self.process.start()` slots readOUtput just implements the collection of data fron stdout and transferring it to a text browser. I need to know is there any way we could monitor the ongoing process, making to knowpercentage completion, so that i can manage a progressbar for this. Thanks Experts

  • How to tell process id within Python

    - by R S
Hey, I am working with a cluster system over linux (www.mosix.org) that allows me to run jobs and have the system run them on different computers. Jobs are run like so: mosrun ls & This will naturally create the process and run it on the background, returning the process id, like so: [1] 29199 Later it will return. I am writing a Python infrastructure that would run jobs and control them. For that I want to run jobs using the mosrun program as above, and save the process ID of the spawned process (29199 in this case). This naturally cannot be done using os.system or commands.getoutput, as the printed ID is not what the process prints to output... Any clues? Edit: Since the python script is only meant to initially run the script, the scripts need to run longer than the python shell. I guess it means the mosrun process cannot be the script's "son process". Any suggestions? Thanks

  • (C#) How do you de-elevate permissions for a child process

    - by Davy8
I know how to launch a process with Admin privileges from a process using: proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = true; proc.StartInfo.Verb = "runas"; where proc is a System.Diagnostics.Process. But how does one do the opposite? If the process you're in is already elevated, how do you launch the new process without admin privileges? More accurately, we need to launch the new process with the same permission level as Windows Explorer, so no change if UAC is diabled, but if UAC is enabled, but our process is running elevated, we need to perform a certain operation un-elevated because we're creating a virtual drive and if it's created with elevated permissions and Windows explorer is running unelevated it won't show up. Feel free to change the title to something better, I couldn't come up with a good description

  • Linux process management

    - by tanascius
Hello, I started a long running background-process (dd with /etc/urandom) in my ssh console. Later I had to disconnect. When I logged in, again (this time directly, without ssh), the process still seemed to to run. I am not sure what happened - I did not use disown. When I logged in later, the process was not listed in top at first, but after a while it reclaimed a high CPU percentage, as I expected. So I assume dd is still running. Now, I'd like to see the progress. I use kill -USR1 <pid> but nothing is printed. Is there any way to get the output again?

  • automatic IIS worker process recycle fails

    - by Sander Rijken
The server is set to its default configuration to recycle the app pool every 1740 minutes. When this happens the following message is logged: A worker process with process id of '1234' serving application pool 'XX' has requested a recycle because the worker process reached its allowed processing time limit. Directly after logging this message, the web site is unresponsive. The only way to get it back online is by running iisreset manually. Does anyone know a fix for this behavior, other than turning the recycle feature off? Is it a known problem?

  • Monitoring and terminating a hanged process in Linux

    - by Yoav
Hi, I'm writing a script that runs many simultaneous processes that run the "dig" command. Once in a while (relatively rare, but happens in every run since I run dig many times) the dig command hangs with 0% CPU. Therefore, my script never terminates. I've created a monitor process for each dig command I run, which terminates it after a while, but I was wondering if there isn't a simpler and more efficient way to run a process with a pre-determined "expiration date", i.e. if the process runs more then X seconds it gets a signal that terminates it. Thanks!

  • Write to stdin of a running process using pipe

    - by aditya
I am in a similar situation as in this post But I couln't get the solution provided there to work in my situation as the answer seems related to that question only. In particular, I couldnt understand what was the purpose of cat my.fifo | nc remotehost.tld 10000 In my case, I have a process running and waiting for input. how can I send input to that process using named pipes? I've tried echo 'h' > /proc/PID/fd/0 it just displays 'h' on the process' window.

  • top process state column under FreeBSD

    - by Eric DANNIELOU
When running top interactively, I can see various word in the state column : nanslp, biord, select, uwait, lockf, pause, kqread, piperd, sbwait ... Some like nanslp or kqread are self explanatory, others are not. Tried man pages : STATE is the current state (one of "START", "RUN" (shown as "CPUn" on SMP systems), "SLEEP", "STOP", "ZOMB", "WAIT", "LOCK" or the event on which the process waits), C is the processor number on which the process is executing (visible only on SMP systems) Tried search engines : stack overflow mailing lists archives Where may I get a complete list of possible process state under FreeBSD 9, and their meanings?

  • Using Process Monitor to track registry changes

    - by CChriss
It seems many people like using Process Monitor to see what changes are being made to the registry during a process. So I downloaded it. I want to see what changes are made in the registry by some config changes I'm making on my computer so I can write them into a vbs script to do them easily. Can someone tell me how to drive Process Monitor to capture the info? In the Help I don't see how to do it. I'm using Windows 7 home Premium 64 bit.

  • Perl kill(0, $pid) in Windows always returning 1

    - by banshee_walk_sly
    I'm trying to make a Perl script that will run a set of other programs in Windows. I need to be able to capture the stdout, stderr, and exit code of the process, and I need to be able to see if a process exceeds it's allotted execution time. Right now, the pertinent part of my code looks like: ... $pid = open3($wtr, $stdout, $stderr, $command); if($time < 0){ waitpid($pid, 0); $return = $? >> 8; $death_sig = $? & 127; $core_dump = $? & 128; } else{ # Do timeout stuff, currently not working as planned print "pid: $pid\n"; my $elapsed = 0; #THIS LOOP ONLY TERMINATES WHEN $time > $elapsed ...? while(kill 0, $pid and $time > $elapsed){ Time::HiRes::usleep(1000); # sleep for milliseconds $elapsed += 1; $return = $? >> 8; $death_sig = $? & 127; $core_dump = $? & 128; } if($elapsed >= $time){ $status = "FAIL"; print $log "TIME LIMIT EXCEEDED\n"; } } #these lines are needed to grab the stdout and stderr in arrays so # I may reuse them in multiple logs if(fileno $stdout){ @stdout = <$stdout>; } if(fileno $stderr){ @stderr = <$stderr>; } ... Everything is working correctly if $time = -1 (no timeout is needed), but the system thinks that kill 0, $pid is always 1. This makes my loop run for the entirety of the time allowed. Some extra details just for clarity: This is being run on Windows. I know my process does terminate because I have get all the expected output. Perl version: This is perl, v5.10.1 built for MSWin32-x86-multi-thread (with 2 registered patches, see perl -V for more detail) Copyright 1987-2009, Larry Wall Binary build 1007 [291969] provided by ActiveState http://www.ActiveState.com Built Jan 26 2010 23:15:11 I appreciate your help :D For that future person who may have a similar issue I got the code to work, here is the modified code sections: $pid = open3($wtr, $stdout, $stderr, $command); close($wtr); if($time < 0){ waitpid($pid, 0); } else{ print "pid: $pid\n"; my $elapsed = 0; while(waitpid($pid, WNOHANG) <= 0 and $time > $elapsed){ Time::HiRes::usleep(1000); # sleep for milliseconds $elapsed += 1; } if($elapsed >= $time){ $status = "FAIL"; print $log "TIME LIMIT EXCEEDED\n"; } } $return = $? >> 8; $death_sig = $? & 127; $core_dump = $? & 128; if(fileno $stdout){ @stdout = <$stdout>; } if(fileno $stderr){ @stderr = <$stderr>; } close($stdout); close($stderr);

  • Process killing trouble

    - by Aditya Singh
I am trying to program a server software which involves a lot of testing on java / scala platform. Whenever i compile and execute the code. It starts listening on port 80. Sometimes i need to terminate it by Ctrl+C when it hangs. In that case, ubuntu is not freeing the port. So in order to run the process, i have to restart the machine. I see this at ps aux root 1924 0.0 0.0 5796 1660 pts/0 T 05:44 0:00 sudo scala - root 1925 0.2 1.5 491448 40796 pts/0 Tl 05:44 0:03 java -Xmx256M -Xms16M So process 1924 and 1925. I did sudo kill on both these. But then they keep on persisting even after a long time. sudo nmap -T Aggressive -A -v 127.0.0.1 -p 1-65000 Scanning localhost (127.0.0.1) [65000 ports] Discovered open port 80/tcp on 127.0.0.1 It means its still there ! sudo netstat --tcp --udp --listening --program tcp6 0 0 [::]:www [::]:* LISTEN 1925/java tcp6 0 0 ip6-localhost:ipp [::]:* LISTEN 1185/cupsd This means its 1925 - java How to kill it.

  • parent process, and a child process..

    - by icelated
    I am trying to write a program that The parent process will take the arguments to main() and send the characters in them one at a time to the child process through a pipe (one call to write for each character). The child process will count the characters sent to it by the parent process and print out the number of characters it received from the parent. The child process should not use the arguments to main() in any way whatsoever. The child should return normally and not have the parent kill the child. Am i counting the arguments right? am i sending the arguments in one at a time, and am i reaping the child? #include <sys/wait.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <string.h> #define size = 100; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int i, count =0; int c; int fdest[2]; // for pipe pid_t pid; //process IDs char buffer[BUFSIZ]; if (pipe(fdest) < 0) /* attempt to create pipe */ perror( "pipe" ); if ((pid = fork()) < 0) /* attempt to create child / parent process */ { perror( "fork" ); } /* parent process */ else if (pid > 0) { close(fdest[0]); for (i=1; i < argc; ++i) { for (c=0; c < strlen(argv[i]); ++c) { write(fdest[1], &argv[i][c], 1); } } close(fdest[1]); wait(NULL); exit(0); } else { /* child Process */ close(fdest[1]); while (read(fdest[0], &buffer, 1) > 0) { count++; } printf("\nchild: counted %d characters\n", count); } wait(NULL); exit(0); }

  • how to controller (start/kill) a background process (server app) in ruby

    - by rubiii
hey guys, i'm trying to set up a server for integration tests (specs actually) via ruby and can't figure out how to control the process. so, what i'm trying to do is: run a rake task for my gem that executes the integration specs the task needs to first start a server (i use webrick) and then run the specs after executing the specs it should kill the webrick so i'm not left with some unused background process webrick is not a requirement, but it's included in the ruby standard library so being able to use it would be great. hope anyone is able to help! ps. i'm running on linux, so having this work for windows is not my main priority (right now).

  • STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly

    - by christof
I'm encountering such an error after expanding disk space on a virtual machine using Hyper-V. STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of (0x00000000) (0xc000012d 0x001003f0). The virtual server there is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition, which is also Domain Controller. I've tried to repair Windows but there is no restore point, and using the command line. I've tried the sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR /OFFWINDIR command, but I got the error Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

  • COM+ automatic collection of a process dump file and process termination at high call time

    - by immi
hI, I want to configure my machine for automatic collection of a process dump file and process termination as mentioned in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910904. But after setting the registry settings according to the KB article, i am not getting the required behaviour. Only a warning is being logged when call time goes high (which is the default behaviour). i am running Windows Server 2003 with SP2. Is there any thing that i am missing? for example restart any COM+ runtime etc. Regards

  • Adobe Reader process fails when starting second instance

    - by Reddog
In our C# WinForms application, we generate PDF files and launch Adobe Reader (or whatever the default system .pdf handler is) via the Process class. Since our PDF files can be large (approx 200K), we handle the Exited event to then clean up the temp file afterwards. The system works as required when a file is opened and then closed again. However, when a second file is opened (before closing Adobe Reader) the second process immediately exits (since Reader is now using it's MDI powers) and in our Exited handler our File.Delete call should fail because it's locked by the now joined Adobe process. However, in Reader we instead get: There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found. The unusual thing is that if I put a debugger breakpoint before the file deletion and allow it to attempt (and fail) the deletion, then the system behaves as expected! I'm positive that the file exists and fairly positive that all handles/file streams to the file are closed before starting the process. We are launching with the following code: // Open the file for viewing/printing (if the default program supports it) var pdfProcess = new Process(); pdfProcess.StartInfo.FileName = tempFileName; if (pdfProcess.StartInfo.Verbs.Contains("open", StringComparer.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)) { var verb = pdfProcess.StartInfo.Verbs.First(v => v.Equals("open", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)); pdfProcess.StartInfo.Verb = verb; } pdfProcess.StartInfo.Arguments = "/N"; // Specifies a new window will be used! (But not definitely...) pdfProcess.SynchronizingObject = this; pdfProcess.EnableRaisingEvents = true; pdfProcess.Exited += new EventHandler(pdfProcess_Exited); _pdfProcessDictionary.Add(pdfProcess, tempFileName); pdfProcess.Start(); Note: We are using the _pdfProcessDictionary to store references to the Process objects so that they stay in scope so that Exited event can successfully be raised. Our cleanup/exited event is: void pdfProcess_Exited(object sender, EventArgs e) { Debug.Assert(!InvokeRequired); var p = sender as Process; try { if (_pdfProcessDictionary.ContainsKey(p)) { var tempFileName = _pdfProcessDictionary[p]; if (File.Exists(tempFileName)) // How else can I check if I can delete it!!?? { // NOTE: Will fail if the Adobe Reader application instance has been re-used! File.Delete(tempFileName); _pdfProcessDictionary.Remove(p); } CleanOtherFiles(); // This function will clean up files for any other previously exited processes in our dictionary } } catch (IOException ex) { // Just swallow it up, we will deal with trying to delete it at another point } } Possible solutions: Detect that the file is still open in another process Detect that the second process hasn't really been fully exited and that the file is opened in the first process instead

  • Start a thread in a different process in Java

    - by kolm
Hi there, is it possible to start a new thread in a different process in Java? I mean, I'm running a specific process and main thread, issuing ProcessBuilder for creating a new process. Before start() method is invoked, one must provide the command to be run in another process. Is it possible to start a new thread in newly created process? Thank you in advance for the reply. Best regards.

    - by Tomas1
Hi all, I want to run & control a process remotely, I found the best way is the WMI APIs, The WMI gives me information about the remote process but I need more control like waiting it and getting the standard output and errors, how can I do that, and can I get an instance of System.Diagnostics.Process class by instance ID remotely? note: I tried to get an instance of the Process by Process.GetProcessByPID and passign machineName parameter, but and Exception has thrown. Thanks in advance.
