  • Why does my code fail to create a directory in "C:\Program Files" under Windows 7?

    I am using Windows 7 and I have to run one program in that windows but that program working in Windows XP. This is a Visual C++ program and I am using Visual Studio 2008 for this. When I am running my application, it does not throw any errors, but it does not create a directory in "c:\program files\". So can anyone help me to create directory and exe file?   • Pushing an array into a vector.

    I've a 2d array, say A[2][3]={{1,2,3},{4,5,6}}; and I want to push it into a 2D vector(vector of vectors). I know you can use two for loops to push the elements one by on on to the first vector and then push that into the another vector which makes it 2d vector but I was wondering if there is any way in C++ to do this in a single loop. For example I want to do something like this: myvector.pushback(A[1]+3); // where 3 is the size or number of columns in the array. I understand this is not a correct code but I put this just for understanding purpose. Thanks

    I'm working on a research problem out of curiosity and I don't know how to program the logic that I've in mind. Let me explain it to you : I've 4 vectors say for example, v1 = 1 1 1 1 v2 = 2 2 2 2 v3 = 3 3 3 3 v4 = 4 4 4 4 Now what I want to do is to add them combination-wise. i.e v12 = v1+v2 v13 = v1+v3 v14 = v1+v4 v23 = v2+v3 v24 = v2+v4 v34 = v3+v4 Till this step it is just fine. The problem/trick is now, at the end of each iteration I give the obtained vectors into a black box function and it returns only few of the vectors say v12, v13 and v34. Now, I want to add each of these vectors one vector from v1,v2,v3,v4 which it hasn't added before. For example v3 and v4 hasn't been added to v12 so I want to create v123 and v124. similarly for all the vectors like, v12 should become : v123 = v12+v3 v124 = v12+v4 v13 should become : v132 // this should not occur because I already have v123 v134 = v13+v4; v14,v23 and v24 cannot be considered because it was deleted in the black box function so all we have in our hands to work with is v12,v13 and v34. v34 should become : v341 // cannot occur because we have 134 v342 = v34+v2 It is important that I do not do all at one step at the start like for example I can do (4 choose 3) 4C3 and finish it off but I want to do it step by step at each iteration. I've asked a modified version of this question before (without including the black box function) and got answers here. Can anybody tell me how to do it when the black box function is included ? A modification of the previous answer would also be great. Thanks in advance.

    Amit Agarwal of Labnol reported couple of days ago that Gizmodo would have made $150,000 from the iPhone 4G scoop that revealed  all the secrets about iPhone 4G. But the reality seems to be entirely different. Gawker Media owner Nick Denton says that "There were no immediate revenue benefits whatsoever — in fact, only costs,"(via businessinsider) Gizmodo paid $5,000 to get hold of iPhone 4G which was lost by an Apple Engineer at a bar after his birthday party. Plus an additional amount of $7000 is spent on keeping the servers up to server 23 page views attracted by the iPhone 4G blog posts. Irrespective of whether Gizmodo made profits or not, they got huge publicity. But at the same time Apple should be very angry with Gizmodo for derailing it’s planned unveiling of the product.   • The current state of a MERGE Destination for SSIS

    Hugo Tap asked me on Twitter earlier today whether or not there existed a SSIS Dataflow Destination component that enabled one to MERGE data into a table rather than INSERT it. Its a common request so I thought it might be useful to summarise the current state of play as regards a MERGE destination for SSIS. Firstly, there is no MERGE destination component in the box; that is, when you install SSIS no MERGE Destination will be available. That being said the SSIS team have made available a MERGE destination component via Codeplex which you can get from http://sqlsrvintegrationsrv.codeplex.com/releases/view/19048. I have never used it so cannot vouch for its usefulness although judging by some of the reviews you might not want to set your expectations too high. Your mileage may vary.   In the past it has occurred to me that a built-in way to provide MERGE from the SSIS pipeline would be highly valuable. I assume that this would have to be provided by the database into which you were merging hence in March 2010 I submitted the following two requests to Connect: BULK MERGE (111 votes at the time of writing) [SSIS] BULK MERGE Destination (15 votes) If you think these would be useful feel free to vote them up and add a comment.   • Comparison of Extreme Programming (XP) to Traditional Programming Methodologies

    The comparison of extreme programming (XP) to traditional programming methodologies can find similarities between the historic biblical battle between David and Goliath. Goliath of Gath is a Philistine warrior renowned for his size, strength and battle tested skills. Much like Goliath, traditional methodologies are known to be cumbersome due to large amounts of documentation, and time consuming do to the time needed to gather all the information. However, traditional methodologies have been widely accepted by the software development community for years because of its attention to detail regarding project development and maintenance. David is a male Israelite teenager, who was small, fearless, and untrained in any type of formal combat. In a similar fashion, extreme programming focuses more on code over documentation so that time is spent on developing the project and not on cumbersome documentation of a project. Typically, project managers and developers are fearless when they start this type of project because they usually start with little to no documentation, and they expect to be given changes to be implemented at the start of every new project iteration. Because of the lack of need or desire for documentation in extreme programming projects they appear to act as if there is no formal process involved in developing an extreme programming project.  This is a misnomer, because of the consistent development iterations and interaction with clients and users the quickly takes form because each iteration allows the project to be refined as the customer needs and desires change. Ravikant Agarwal and David Umphress documented a new approach to extreme programming called personal extreme programming (PXP) at the ACM Southeast Regional Conference in 2008. PXP is the application of extreme programming core concepts in a single developer team environment.  PXP focuses on how to adjust the main concepts and practices of extreme programming that is typically centered in a group environment and how they can be altered to be beneficial for a single developer environment. Suzanne Smith and Sara Stoecklin are both advocates of extreme programming according to the Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges and in fact they feel that it should receive more attention in introductory programming classes to allow students to better understand the software development process. Reasons why extreme programming is a good thing: Developers get to do more of what they love, Develop. Traditional software development methodologies tend to  add additional demands on a project by requiring all requirements and project specifications to be fully defined prior to the start of the implementation phase of a project.   • Oracle WebCenter: Composite Applications & Mash-Ups

    We’ve talked in previous weeks about the key goals of the new release of WebCenter are providing a Modern User Experience, unparalleled Application Integration, converging all the best of the existing portal platforms into WebCenter and delivering a Common User Experience Architecture.  We’ve provided an overview of Oracle WebCenter and discussed some of the other key goals in previous weeks, and this week, we’ll focus on how with the new release of Oracle WebCenter you can create composite applications and mashups.We recently talked with Sachin Agarwal, Director of Product Management of Enterprise 2.0 at Oracle around the topic of Composite Applications and Mashups. Oracle WebCenter provides a rich set of tools and capabilities for pulling in content, applications and collaboration functionality from various different sources and weaving them together into what we call Mashups. Mashups that also consists of transactional applications from multiple sources are specifically called Composite Applications. With the latest release of Oracle WebCenter one can develop highly productive tasked based interfaces that aggregate a related set of applications that are part of a business process and provide in context collaboration tools so that users don’t have to navigate away to different tabs to achieve these tasks. For instance, a call center representative (CSR), not only needs to be able to pull customer information from a CRM application like Siebel, but also related information from Oracle E-Business Suite about whether a specific order has shipped. The CSR will be far more efficient if he or she does not have to open different tabs to login into multiple applications while the customer is waiting, but can access all this information in one mashup.Oracle WebCenter Suite provides a comprehensive set of tooling that enables a business user to quickly aggregate together a mashup and wire-in different backend applications to create a custom dashboard. Not only does Oracle WebCenter supports a wide set of standards (WSRP 1.0, 2.0, JSR 168, JSR 286) that allow portlets  from other applications to be surfaced within WebCenter, but it also provides tools to bring in other web applications such as .Net Applications  as well as SharePoint webparts. The new Business Mash-up editor allows business users to take any Oracle Application or 3rd party application and wire the backend data sources or APIs to a rich set of visualizations and reuse them in mashups.  Moreover, Business users can customize or personalize any page using Oracle WebCenter Composer’s on-the-fly visual page editing features. Users access and select different resource components available in Oracle WebCenter’s Business Dictionary in order to add new content to the page. The Business Dictionary provides a role-based view of available components or resources, and these components can include information from a variety of enterprise resources such as enterprise applications, managed content, rich media, business processes, or business intelligence systems.
