But sometimes it becomes just sxml: ERROR: failed to parse SXML input (line 32, column 1): `"' expected but `' found ^ This happens if a quote characters is not closed and the parser reaches the EOT. What I would like to see here is (1) what production the parser was in when it expected the '"' (I've multiple ones) and (2) where in the input this production started parsing (which is an indicator where the opening quote is in the input). Does anybody know how I can improve the error messages and include more information about the actual internal parsing state when the error happens (perhaps something like a production rule stacktrace or whatever can be given reasonably here to better identify the error location). BTW, the above "line 32, column 1" is actually the EOT position and hence of no use here, of course.

  • What is a good "Error Checking" Pattern (Java)?

    I'll explain what I mean by input error checking. Say you have a function doSomething(x). If the function completes successfully doSomething does something and returns nothing. However, if there are errors I'd like to be notified. That is what I mean by error checking. I'm looking for, in general, the best way to check for errors. I've thought of the following solutions, each with a potential problem. Flag error checking. If doSomething(x) completes successfully return null. Otherwise, it returns a boolean or an error string. Problem: Side effects. Throwing an exception. Throw an exception if doSomething(x) encounters an error. Problem: If you are performing error checking for parameters only, throwing an IllegalArgumentExceptionseems inappropriate. Validating input prior to function call. If the error checking is only meant for the parameters of the function, then you can call a validator function before calling the doSomething(x) function. Problem: What if a client of the class forgets to call the validator function before calling doSomething(x)? I often encounter this problem and any help or a point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

    I am trying to validate a file that is uploaded by the user using the code below. The error handler checks the top row of the uploaded file for three specific column names. If one or more of the column names is not present, the program should return a prompt to the user notifying them which column(s) are missing from the file that they uploaded and then close the file. There are a couple issues with my current VBA code that I am seeking help with: The prompt doesn't specify which column(s) are missing to the user. Soo... if I ask someone if they are male or female and they would not like to answer, is there a way to disregard this input? Perhaps by placing it squarely in the centre?     We built an app in Zend Framework and have not worked a lot in setting up error reporting and logging. Is there any way we could get some level or error reporting without too much change in the code? Is there a ErrorHandler plugin available? The basic requirement is to log errors that happens within the controller, missing controllers, malformed URLs, etc. I also want to be able to log errors within my controllers. Will using error controller here, help me identify and log errors within my controllers? How best to do this with minimal changes?

    Background: I am customizing an existing ASP .NET / C# application. It has it's own little "framework" and conventions for developers to follow when extending/customizing its functionality. I am currently extending some of it's administrative functionality, to which the framework provides a contract to enforce implementation of the GetAdministrationInterface() method, which returns System.Web.UI.Control. This method is called during the Page_Load() method of the page hosting the GUI interface. Problem: I have three buttons in my GUI, each of which have been assigned an Event Handler. My administration GUI loads up perfectly fine, but clicking any of the buttons doesn't do what I expect them to do. However, when I click them a second time, the buttons work. I placed breakpoints at the the beginning of each event handler method and stepped through my code. On the first click, none of the event handlers are triggered. On the second click, they are triggered. Any ideas?     My goal is to have an error bean returned on a 404 with a descriptive message when a object is not found, and return the same MIME type that was requested. I have a look up resource, which will return the specified object in XML or JSON based on the URI (I have setup the com.sun.jersey.config.property.resourceConfigClass servlet parameter so I dont need the Accept header. My JAXBContextResolver has the ErrorBean.class in its list of types, and the correct JAXBContext is returned for this class because I can see in the logs). eg: http://foobar.com/rest/locations/1.json @GET @Path("{id}") @Produces({MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON, MediaType.APPLICATION_XML}) public Location getCustomer(@PathParam("id") int cId) { //look up location from datastore .... if (location == null) { throw new NotFoundException("Location" + cId + " is not found"); } } And my NotFoundException looks like this: public class NotFoundException extends WebApplicationException { public NotFoundException(String message) { super(Response.status(Response.Status.NOT_FOUND). entity(new ErrorBean( message, Response.Status.NOT_FOUND.getStatusCode() ) .build()); } } The ErrorBean is as follows: @XmlRootElement(name = "error") public class ErrorBean { private String errorMsg; private int errorCode; //no-arg constructor, property constructor, getter and setters ... } However, I'm always getting a 204 No Content response when I try this.   • Trigger Event after values have been commited for validation purposes

    I have a Flex component with a form and on creationComplete, I load some data onto the form textInputs. After the Form TextInputs have got their values, I want to trigger an event so the Parent of the component can validate the values on the TextInputs and based on the validation results, I perform some enable/disable of other interfaces. I have the following dispatch code: this.dispatchEvent(new PersonalDetailsEvent(PersonalDetailsEvent.LOADED_DATA_EVENT)); The event is dispatched and is captured by the parent. But upon performing the validation, some TextInputs always fail the validation. I thought it could be because of a race condition and so I used callLater() with same results. So in the end I am now using a timer to dispatch the event which is not ideal. Does anyone have a solution to this problem. It is really annoying that a timer needs to be used for this scenario.
