Upgrading Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.x to 11.1.1.4

This is a follow on from my previous post where we upgraded 11.1.1.2 to 11.1.1.3. The instructions I provide here will work for Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.3 wanting to upgrade to 11.1.1.4. In this example I’m just upgrading SOA Suite on OEL 64bit but the steps will be the same, some of the downloads may be different based on your environment. To upgrade to 11.1.1.4 you need to have access to http://support.oracle.com as this is where the downloads reside. Oracle provides 11.1.1.4 as a standalone download so you can do a fresh install if required using OTN downloads (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/downloads/index.html). The high level steps to upgrade are as follows: Download software Shutdown you SOA Environment Upgrade WLS to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade SOA Suite to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade OSB to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade MSD Schemas Identify the downloads you require for your install. You will need the WebLogic Server Upgrade and the additional product downloads. If you are using 64bit then use the generic version. The downloads are found from the following location - http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/E18749_01/download_readme.htm#BABDDIIC For the purpose of this post I downloaded the following patches 11060985 – WLS Server Generic 11060960 – SOA Suite 11061005 – OSB Suite You must also download the 11.1.1.4 RCU tool to upgrade the DB schemas. It is available via OTN, or, Oracle Support, I have provided the link from Oracle Support. 11060956 – RCU Make sure you have set the Java executable in your PATH e.g. export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH Make sure all your WebLogic environment has been shut down before performing the upgrade. Extract the WLS patch 11060985 to a temporary directory and start the installer java –jar wls1034_upgrade_generic.jar Please note if you are not running 64BIT then the upgrade executable will be just a bin file which you can execute directly. Chose the right Oracle home for your WebLogic Server install. In the Register for Security Updates you can enter your details or just click Next. If you do not enter details confirm that you don’t want to receive these updates Select the products you want to upgrade and select next. It is recommended that you accept the defaults. Confirm the directories that will be upgraded Upgrade of WLS ahs been completed Extract your both SOA downloads to a temporary directory and run the installer found in Disk1 ./runInstaller -jreLoc /java/jdk1.6.0_20/jre Please note that the java location and version may be different for your environment Skip the Software Updates Ensure your system meets the prerequisites Set the Oracle home for your SOA install. You will be asked to confirm that you want to upgrade, click Yes Choose your application server. Since you are upgrading from 11.1.1.x you will be on WebLogic Start the Install Installation Upgrade of SOA Suite completed accept the default to finish. In my environment I have OSB installed so I need to upgrade this next. If you don’t have SOA Suite you can go straight to completing the DB Schema updates at Step 24. Extract the OSB upgrade files to a temporary directory and execute the installer found in the Disk1 folder. ./runInstaller -jreLoc /java/jdk1.6.0_20/jre Skip the software updates Select the Oracle home for your environment Accept the warning to continue the upgrade Point to the location of your WebLogic Server installation Install the OSB upgrade Upgrade has been completed accept the defaults Change directory to $MW_HOME/oracle_common/bin where the Patch Set Assistant is installed Execute the following command to update the MDS schema. Please not for my examples I have the context set to DEV. your may be different. This means that all my schemas are prefixed by DEV. ./psa -dbType Oracle -dbConnectString 'localhost:1521:xe' -dbaUserName sys -schemaUserName DEV_MDS You will be asked you passwords for sys and the schema Enter the database administrator password for "sys": Enter the schema password for schema user "DEV_MDS": Change directory to $MW_HOME/Oracle_SOA1/bin to where the Patch Set Assistant is installed for SOA Suite. Execute the following command to update the SOA and BAM schemas ./psa -dbType Oracle -dbConnectString 'localhost:1521:xe' -dbaUserName sys -schemaUserName DEV_SOAINFRA To check that you have the installed correctly run the following SQL as sysdba. SELECT owner, version, status FROM schema_version_registry; OWNER VERSION STATUS ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ----------- DEV_MDS 11.1.1.4.0 VALID DEV_SOAINFRA 11.1.1.4.0 VALID Don’t stress if the versions are not all sitting at version 11.1.1.4 as not all schemas need to be updated. How to create a new Team Project Collection in TFS2010:

TFS 2010 has introduced the notion of Team Project Collection (TPC). I have already discussed about TPC in my earlier post, you can check it out here. In this post, I will demonstrate how to create a new Team Project Collection in TFS2010. First, you have to open the TFS Administration Console (Start à All Programs à Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010 à Team Foundation Server Administration Console), expand the Application Tier node in TFS Administration Console and click on Team Project Collection. Here you will see the TPC’s which are already exist, I am having only one TPC named New Collection and I’m going to create a new TPC called Demo Collection. To create a new Team Project Collection, you need to click on Create Collection; it will open the Create New Team Project Collection window. Under the Name tab, you have to enter the name of Collection which you want to give for your new TPC (I naming it as Demo Collection). You can also provide some description about your TPC in Description tab which is optional and click next. Here, you need to enter the name of SQL Server Instance where you want your new TPC data to reside. You have the option either to choose the creating a Database for this TPC or use the already existing empty database and then click next. In next screen, you have to choose SharePoint configuration. Here you have the options to either configure SharePoint Site for TPC at default collections or you can specify the your existing SharePoint site and you can also choose not to configure the SharePoint for this collection, if you choose last option then you cannot configure the Share Point sites for the all the Team Projects under this Project Collection. You also have the flexibility to create a Share Point site for this TPC later on, then if you need you have to configure SharePoint site for the existing team projects manually. In next screen, you will have the Reports configuration. Here you have the options to either configure the Reports for TPC at default path or you can specify the path for at existing Reports folder, you can also choose not to configure the Reports for this collection, if you choose last option then you cannot create the Reports for the all the Team Projects under this Project Collection. Here also you can enable reporting for this TPC later on. The next screen is related to Lab Management Configuration, Lab Management is the new feature in TFS2010 which enables the users to create and manage virtual test environments where you can deploy and test your application. There are no options available here as I don’t have the Lab Management configured for my Team Foundation Server. The next screen is Review Configuration window, which will show up all the configuration settings you have specified, so that you can review the configurations before creating the Team Project Collection. If you want to make any changes to the configurations then you can go back to the previous windows and can make the changes. After Reviewing the configuration settings, you can click on verify button. Which will verify that if you’re Team Project Collection is ready to be created or not, it will show up the errors and warning (if any) which can make your Team Project Collection fail. You can then choose to create the Team Project Collection if the verify option doesn’t throw any warnings and errors. If the verify option throws any errors, then it is strongly suggested that you have to first rectify the issues then only go for TPC creation especially in case of warnings as it is a common practice to overlook the warnings. If you choose the create TPC option, then it will start the process of creating a Team Project Collection and once its completed you can check the status of configuration different components during Team Project Collection. You can see in below screen that all the components are configured successfully. In next screen, you can find the location of log file created for this Team Project Creation, this log file is really important in case of Team Project creation failure because it will help you to find the root cause for the failure. Now, you can see that the New Team Projection (Demo Collection) which was created is now available in Team Foundation Collection tab and its status is Online. You can now try to connect to this Team Project Collection from Team Explorer. Choose the newly created Team Project Collection and click on connect. This Team Project Collection is empty because no Team Projects are created yet. Now, you can create the new Team Projects and start working.

Posting from ASP.NET WebForms page to another URL

Few days ago I had a case when I needed to make FORM POST from my ASP.NET WebForms page to an external site URL. More specifically, I was working on implementing Simple Payment System (like Amazon, PayPal, MoneyBookers). The operator asks to make FORM POST request to a given URL in their website, sending parameters together with the post which are computed on my application level (access keys, secret keys, signature, return-URL… etc). So, since we are not allowed nesting another form inside the <form runat=”server”> … </form>, which is required because other controls in my ASPX code work on server-side, I thought to inject the HTML and create FORM with method=”POST”. After making some proof of concept and testing some scenarios, I’ve concluded that I can do this very fast in two ways: Using jQuery to create form on fly with the needed parameters and make submit() Using HttpContext.Current.Response.Write to write the form on server-side (code-behind) and embed JavaScript code that will do the post Both ways seemed fine. 1. Using jQuery to create FORM html code and Submit it. Let’s say we have ‘PAY NOW’ button in our ASPX code: <asp:Button ID="btnPayNow" runat="server" Text="Pay Now" /> Now, if we want to make this button submit a FORM using POST method to another website, the jQuery way should be as follows: <script src="http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.5.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function () { $("#btnPayNow").click(function (event) { event.preventDefault(); //construct htmlForm string var htmlForm = "<form id='myform' method='POST' action='http://www.microsoft.com'>" + "<input type='hidden' id='name' value='hajan' />" + "</form>"; //Submit the form $(htmlForm).appendTo("body").submit(); }); }); </script> Yes, as you see, the code fires on btnPayNow click. It removes the default button behavior, then creates htmlForm string. After that using jQuery we append the form to the body and submit it. Inside the form, you can see I have set the htttp://www.microsoft.com URL, so after clicking the button you should be automatically redirected to the Microsoft website (just for test, of course for Payment I’m using Operator's URL). 2. Using HttpContext.Current.Response.Write to write the form on server-side (code-behind) and embed JavaScript code that will do the post The C# code behind should be something like this: public void btnPayNow_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string Url = "http://www.microsoft.com"; string formId = "myForm1"; StringBuilder htmlForm = new StringBuilder(); htmlForm.AppendLine("<html>"); htmlForm.AppendLine(String.Format("<body onload='document.forms[\"{0}\"].submit()'>",formId)); htmlForm.AppendLine(String.Format("<form id='{0}' method='POST' action='{1}'>", formId, Url)); htmlForm.AppendLine("<input type='hidden' id='name' value='hajan' />"); htmlForm.AppendLine("</form>"); htmlForm.AppendLine("</body>"); htmlForm.AppendLine("</html>"); HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear(); HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(htmlForm.ToString()); HttpContext.Current.Response.End(); } So, with this code we create htmlForm string using StringBuilder class and then just write the html to the page using HttpContext.Current.Response.Write. The interesting part here is that we submit the form using JavaScript code: document.forms["myForm1"].submit() This code runs on body load event, which means once the body is loaded the form is automatically submitted. Note: In order to test both solutions, create two applications on your web server and post the form from first to the second website, then get the values in the second website using Request.Form[“input-field-id”] I hope this was useful post for you. 302 & 503 for temporary site down page: what to use for 'retry-after'?

If I want to temporary take down a website but the timeframe could be from 1 day to 1-2 weeks, I know that a 302 redirect (to a down.html page for instance) is best in order to preserve the existing SEO value of the site. I've also read that one should return a 503 status code for these types of situations but they seems to require setting a 'retry-after' time period. How to run developer team meetings?

Our team of 10 developers meet weekly. The meetings are rather boring and not particularly useful. What format/agenda do you utilize to have good meetings? We meet weekly in the conference room with pizza provided. The format is we go around the room and list the status of various tasks we are working on and discuss tasks for the next week. Managers will provide an overview of upcoming projects and priorities for the coming months and year ahead. Update The goal of these meeting is more or less - general team building, to share the knowledge of what everyone is working on, and to keep everyone aware of shifting company initiatives. It is not to formally 'hand out' work assignments (that is done via other means).

FAT Volume and CE

Whenever we format a disk volume, it is a good idea to name the label so it will be easier to categorize. To label a volume, we can use LABEL command or UI depends on your preference. Windows CE does provide FAT driver and support various format (FAT12, FAT16,FAT32, ExFAT and TFAT - transaction-safe FAT) and many feature to let you scan and even defrag the volume but not labeling. At any time you format a volume in CE and then mount it on PC, the label is always empty! Of course, you can always label the volume on PC, even it is formatted in CE. So looks like CE does not care about the volume label at all, neither report the label to OS nor changing the label on FAT.So how can we set the volume label in CE? To Answer this question, we need to know how does FAT stores the volume label. The first sector of a FAT Volume (it is not necessary to be the first sector of a disk.) is a FAT boot sector and BPB (BIOS Parameter Block). And at offset 43, bgbsVolumeLabel (or bsVolumeLabel on FAT16) is for storing the volume lable, but note in the spec also indicates "FAT file system drivers should make sure that they update this field when the volume label file in the root directory has its name changed or created.". So we can't just simply update the bgbsVolumeLabel but also need to create a volume lable file in root directory. The volume lable file is not a real file but just a file entry in root directory with zero file lenth and a very special file attribute, ATTR_VOLUME_ID. (defined in public\common\oak\drivers\fsd\fatutil\MAIN\fatutilp.h) Locating and accessing bootsector is quite straight forward, as long as we know the starting sector of a FAT volume, that's it. But where is the root directory? The layout of a typical FAT is like this Boot sector (Volume ID in the figure) followed by Reserved Sectors (1 on FAT12/16 and 32 on FAT32), then FAT chain table(s) (can be 1 or 2), after that is the root directory (FAT12/16 and not shows in the figure) then begining of the File and Directories. In FAT12/16, the root directory is placed right after FAT so it is not hard to caculate the offset in the volume. But in FAT32, this rule is no longer true: the first cluster of the root directory is determined by BGBPB_RootDirStrtClus (or offset 44 in boot sector). Although this field is usually 0x00000002 (it is how CE initial the root directory after formating a volume. Note we should never assume it is always true) which means the first cluster contains data but not like the root directory is contiguous in FAT12/16, it is just like a regular file can be fragmented. So we need to access the root directory (of FAT32) hopping one cluster to another by traversing FAT table. Let's trace the code now. Although the source of FAT driver is not available in CE Shared Source program, but the formatter, Fatutil.dll, is available in public\common\oak\drivers\fsd\fatutil\MAIN\formatdisk.cpp. Be aware the public code only provides formatter for FAT12/16/32 for ExFAT it is still not available. FormatVolumeInternal is the main worker function. With the knowledge here, you should be able the trace the code easily. But I would like to discuss the following code pieces dwReservedSectors = (fo.dwFatVersion == 32) ? 32 : 1; dwRootEntries = (fo.dwFatVersion == 32) ? 0 : fo.dwRootEntries; Note the dwReservedSectors is 32 in FAT32 and 1 in FAT12/16. Root Entries is another different mentioned in previous paragraph, 0 for FAT32 (dynamic allocated) and fixed size (usually 512, defined in DEFAULT_ROOT_ENTRIES in public\common\sdk\inc\fatutil.h) And then here memset(pBootSec->bsVolumeLabel, 0x20, sizeof(pBootSec->bsVolumeLabel)); It sets the Volume Label as empty string. In FAT12/16, the dwRootSectors is calculated as the sectors we need for the root entries (512 for most of the case) and in FAT32 it just zero out the one cluster. Please note that, if it is a TFAT volume, it initialize the root directory with special volume label entries for some special purpose. Despite to its unusual initialization process for TFAT, it does provide a example for how to create a volume entry. With some minor modification, we can assign the volume label in FAT formatter and also remember to sync the volume label with bsVolumeLabel or bgbsVolumeLabel in boot sector.

How to get 32 bit version of libraries on Ubuntu 64 bit?

I'm trying to compile a program which uses Google's V8 library (which is 32 bit). Therefore any library I use within my program also has to be 32 bit. Where can I download the 32 bit version of libraries on Ubuntu 64 bit? More specifically, I'm looking for the libnotify 32 bit version. UPK Content State

State is an editable property for communicating the status of a document in the UPK library. This is particularly helpful when working with other authors in a development team. Authors can assign a state to any document using the values that are defined in the master list. The default master list of State values includes Not Started, Draft, In Review, and Final (in the language installed on the server). Administrators can customize the list by adding, deleting, or renaming the values as well as sequencing the values as they will appear on the assignment list from the Properties pane. Let us know if or how you are using UPK Content States in your development efforts!

How can I get ddclient to work with freedns?

I use the dynamic DNS service at freedns.afraid.org for my 12.04 server. I had assumed that the protocols would be standardised and that ddclient would just work, but apparently not. I get this message in /var/log/syslog: ERROR: Invalid update URL (2): unexpected status () I tried to use the updated version of ddclient from the alternative PPA described in this answer, but then I hit this error: FATAL: Error loading the Perl module Digest::SHA1 needed for freedns update. FATAL: On Debian, the package libdigest-sha1-perl must be installed. And when I try to install that package, I get this: E: Unable to locate package libdigest-sha1-perl Which leads me to this bug report, which apparently has no solution. How to proceed?

can't load big files to server with php [closed]

Hi all! I can't load big files to server. The problem is in that file $_FILES["filename"]["tmp_name"] is empty if file a little more bigger then 2mb. I tried to change variables in php.ini upload_max_filesize = 700M post_max_size = 16M but not working to. Also tried to add this variables to my .httaccess file - but 500 error appears. Error code while uploading=1. UPLOAD_ERR_INI_SIZE Value: 1; The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini. Here is my uppload.php page, please anwer what I doing wrong? Neste tutorial, iremos aprender a criar um componente para o Content Server. O nosso primeiro componente, embora não seja tão simples, será feito apenas com recursos do Content Server. Em um futuro tutorial, iremos aprender a usar classes java como parte de nossos componentes. Neste tutorial, vamos desenvolver um recurso de Favoritos, aonde os usuários poderão marcar determinados documentos como seus Favoritos, e depois consultar estes documentos em uma lista. O serviço recebe os parâmetros de entrada, executa a query e retorna o ResultSet (no caso de um SELECT). Os serviços podem ser executados através de templates, páginas IDOC, outras aplicações (através de API), ou diretamente na URL do browser. Neste exercício criaremos serviços para Criar, Editar, Deletar e Listar os favoritos de um usuário. - Template: Os templates são as interfaces gráficas (páginas) que serão apresentadas aos usuários. Por exemplo, antes de executar o serviço que deleta um documento do favoritos, quero que o usuário veja uma tela com o ID do Documento e um botão Confirma, para que ele tenha certeza que está deletando o registro correto. Esta tela pode ser criada como um template. Neste exercício iremos construir templates para os principais serviços, além da página que lista todos os favoritos do usuário e apresenta as ações de editar e deletar. Os templates nada mais são do que páginas HTML com scripts IDOC. So far so good. Adding the Behavior Add a reference to the Behavior project and add the using entry in the test class. In this case I used a ServiceBehavior. To add an Endpoint behavior you have to add it to the endpoints. 1: host.Description.Endpoints[0].Behaviors.Add(new MyEndpointBehavior()) To add a contract or an operation behavior a custom attribute should work on the service contract definition. I haven’t tried that yet. All the code provided in this blog and in the following files are for sample use. Improvements I don’t like to instantiate a client and a service to test my behaviors. But so far I have' not found an easy way to do it. Today I am passing a type of endpoint to the host creator and it creates the right binding type. This allows me to easily switch between bindings at will. I have used the same approach to test Mex Endpoints, another post should come later for this. Enjoy !

Add attractive visuals with minimal effort. 2) HTML Host - Render HTML and arbitrary URI content from within Silverlight. 3) Chart3D - Create 3D surface charts with options for contour levels, zones, a chart legend and more. 4) PDFViewer - View PDF files in Silverlight! This brings me to the second part of the giveaway. XAP Optimizer – Is designed to reduce the size of your XAP File. It also includes built-in obfuscation and signing. With my personal project, I decided to use the XAP Optimizer by ComponentOne. It was so easy to use. You basically give it your .XAP file and it provides an output file. If you prefer to prune unused references manually then you can prune your XAP file manually by selecting the option below. I went ahead and added Obfuscation just to try it out and it worked great. You may notice from the screenshot below that I only obfuscated assemblies that I built. The other dlls anyone can grab off the net so we have no reason to obfuscate them. You also have the option to automatically sign your .xap with the SN.exe tool. So how did it turn out? Well, I reduced my XAP size from 2.4 to 1.8 with simply a click of a button. So, with 2 button clicks, I reduce my XAP file and obfuscated my assembly. What else can you want? Well, they provide a nice HTML report that gives you an optimization summary. So what if you don’t want to launch this tool every time you deploy a Silverlight application? Well the official documentation provided a way to do it in your built event in Visual Studio. Click the Build Events tab on the left side of the Properties window. Enter the following command in the Post-build event command line: $Program Files\ComponentOne\XapOptimizer\XapOptimizer.exe /cmd /p:$(ProjectDir)$(ProjectName).xoproj In the end, this is a great product. Out of disk space - /boot at 100%

My /boot is at 100%. When I run aptitude search ~ilinux-image I'm getting loads of unused images. When I try to delete one of them (after checking which one is currently in use by doing uname -r), e.g apt-get autoremove linux-image-3.2.0-44-generic I get: Reading package lists... Importing data from text file to specific columns using BULK INSERT

Bulk insert is much faster than using other techniques such as SSIS. However, when you are using bulk insert you can’t insert to specific columns. If, for example, there are five columns in a table you should have five values for each record in the text file you are importing from. This is an issue when you are expecting default values to be inserted into tables. Let us say you have table as below: In this table, you are expecting ID, Status and CreatedDate to be updated automatically, so your text file may only have FirstName LastName values as below: Dinesh,Asanka Saman,Liyanage Ruwan,Silva Susantha,Bathige Jude,Peires Sanjeewa,Jayawickrama If you use bulk insert to this table like follows, You will be returned an error: Bulk load data conversion error (type mismatch or invalid character for the specified codepage) for row 1, column 1 (ID). To avoid this you will need to create a view with the columns you are expecting to fill and use bulk insert against it. If you check the table now, you will see table with values in the text file and the default values.
