  • Collect consumers' information

    - by Yongwei Xing
Hi all When we install some applications in Winodws, we would get a dialog ask us if we want to attend the some consumer program, and send some system/applcation information to the company. Or when the Window server meets failure, it would also send error report to MS. I want to know, how can a application send information from client to report? Best Regards,

  • How to automatically monitor and limit resource of process on Windows

    - by Nat
On Linux, normally I use ptrace function to trace all syscall, and kill the process if the it tries to do anything harmful to my machine, such as system("shutdown -s -t 00") or so. Is there a way for me to do this on Windows? EDIT: I want to write Sandbox program to limit time and memory usage of its child that can work on both Windows and Linux, and now it can only run on Linux via ptrace

  • In node.js slow readable stream attached to a faster pushing message queue eats up memory

    - by Vishal
    In my node.js program I have a response stream attached to a message queue (zeromq) delivering data at a very high rate. Due to slow network connection the response stream and its underlying implementation is unable to consume data at that pace thus occupying a lot of memory. Do you have any suggestion to solve this problem. For reference please see the code snippet below: zmq.on("message", function(data) { res.write(data); // End response on some event });

I need to use C# to get data from database(sql) and the data in database is updated every few seconds. So do I have to make a loop or there is a better way to do that? Is it possible that when database is updating, the program can wait until it finishes updating? thx!

  • Visual Studio Generating Code in Release mode

    - by bball
I am using Visual Studio to compile some C++ Code. When I compile my program in Debug mode it works perfectly, but when I try compiling it in Release mode, VS halts when Generating Code (ie: took 20 mins and still didn't finish). After I forced VS to stop the build process, the executable generated was huge 2MB while it should be about 304KB. Please can you help figure this out. How should I setup the configuration parameters for Release mode to work? Thanks,

  • Does variable name length matter for performance C#?

    - by MadBoy
I've been wondering if using long descriptive variable names in WinForms C# matters for performance? I'm asking this question since in AutoIt v3 (interpreted language) it was brought up that having variables with short names like aa instead of veryLongVariableName is much much faster (when program is bigger then 5 liner). I'm wondering if it's the same in C#?

  • Problem with setting text into a uneditable JTextField

    - by The Z
I have a tabbed pane with a couple of uneditable JTextFields which I want to fill in with information from a database. However, when I set the text in the text fields to anything, it doesn't show up when I run the program. When I get the text and print it out, it does show. What could be the problem here?

  • Does variable = null set it for garbage collection

    - by manyxcxi
Help me settle a dispute with a coworker: Does setting a variable or collection to null in Java aid in garbage collection and reducing memory usage? If I have a long running program and each function may be iteratively called (potentially thousands of times): Does setting all the variables in it to null before returning a value to the parent function help reduce heap size/memory usage?

  • Get-ChildItem to Move-Item - path not found

    - by Filburt
I try to move my old logfiles to a yyyy\MM\dd folder structure by Get-ChildItem . -Recurse -Include *.log | Move-Item -Dest {"D:\Archive\{0:yyyy\\MM\\dd}\{1}" -f $_.LastWriteTime, $_.Name} -Force but i get a path-not-found error. update I suspect the problem originates from the fact that the source path contains Program Files. sub question: Could the same be done without Get-ChildItem?

  • applescript for sqlite

    - by user1212108
I have a Windows app called via Shell from MS Word that reads and writes to Sqlite. I'm porting it to Mac. On windows I have a batch file: SQLite3.exe pathtodb\databasename <sqlitecommands.txt This batch calls the Sqlite command line program, attachs the database, and reads the command from sqlitecommands.txt. The sqlitecommands is dynamically modified(by Word VBA) to read (Select) Write (Update) to/from the database. What is the format of an applescript to do the same thing in Mac OSX?

  • Using USB PS2 hand controller in C#.NET

    - by rross
I'm attempting to create a program that takes input from a usb ps2 hand controller, translate and passes the info to a rs232 device. I already have everything working for the rs232 device. The problem is interfacing with a usb controller. There doesn't seem to be any good documentation out there and on top of that .NET3.0/3.5 doesn't have any libs to help you out. How would one even get started?

  • How do I put a listing of files into a menu?

    - by PandaNL
I have a folder with .txt files in it. How can i make my menuitem get those .txt files and put the filenames in the menuitem, so that it creates a list of all .txt files in that folder. So when i put a .txt in the folder the program automatically creates the menu item. Does someone knows how to do this, or perhaps an example?

  • Does a lazy-programmer "document template" with tags exist for Windows?

    - by Anthony Forloney
I was wondering (if possible) if there was a program/tool/utility that when I create a new file and provide it with an extension that it creates the tags automatically? For example, a new file I create called index.php would have the appropriate tags auto-generated inside: <?php ?> I hope you get the idea. Does one, or could one, exist, preferably Windows based? Any information regarding this would be helpful.
