  • Is it a good practice to place the executable on a fileserver?

    Assuming the components like *.dll's, *.ocx's installed and registered on the clients there exists the possibility to place the *.exe and some related files on the fileserver. To start the application there are links on the client's desktops which runs the \fileserver\AppPath\exe. Would you agree with such a layout? What if 'the client' is a terminal-server and 'the clients' means a terminal-server-farm?

  • PHP-CGI Not working on CentOS 5?

    Just started working with CentOS 5 after wanting to leave Ubuntu server for something a bit more industry-standard, and while trying to configure php-cgi, I run into this: [root@~~~~~~~ run]# /etc/init.d/php_cgi start Starting php-cgi: spawn-fcgi: child exited with: 255 [FAILED] Not 100% sure what's happening here, but no Google result returns anything regarding error code 255. I was following this guide: http://bash.cyberciti.biz/web-server/rhel-fedora-php-fastcgi-initd-script/ if it helps. EDIT: Forgot to mention this is with Nginx, not Lighttpd. Many thanks, Elliot

  • How to stop videos on news sites from overriding my speaker mute

    Just recently I have found when clicking on news stories that their advertisement and news videos start up automatically and that if I have set the speakers to mute that it overrides this. I then re-mute the speakers and a few seconds later it is overriden and the sound starts up again. I think this will be a growing common problem as it seems a "new trick" by hungry media sites. Can someone please let me know how to stop it happening?

  • Cant access websites internally but can externally, happened all of a sudden on Windows Server 2008

    Without any type of change I can access sites from within my server, not even Google. I can access them externally. I have no idea where to start. My internet Lan Settings are set to automatic and not to proxy. Nothing was changed on my end, how can I diagnose this issue?     I'm trying to setup an apache http server with mod_wsgi on a windows machine, but when I start the service, it fails to launch. In the Windows Event Log I get the following message: The Apache2 service terminated with the following service-specific error: Incorrect function. In running a Windows 8 - 64 bits machine, with Apache 2.0.64 32 bits Python 2.7.8 32 bits mod_wsgi 3.5 32 bits I looked around the web, but all the problem but everywhere says that it's a problem with the architecture of the software, but I already installed them all with the 32 bits version.

  • Hard Drive Bad Sector marking utility

    I already have Windows XP, During installing Ubuntu(dual boot) the disk drive just stuck up at one place and doesn't seem to move ahead.. Is there a disk bad sector mark utility that just marks these sectors so that the disk doesn't seek them later. I tried running Seagate Seatools on the drive but both the short test and long test fail even before they start even chkdsk /f/r doesn't seem to work as the system locks up at stage four.

  • Different Ip adress range from provider

    I have different ip-range on the network, the dhcp is from the bordaband that says it uses different iprange as balancednetwork. however this causes issue as my nas and other computer gets the otner iprange of 84 and some computer gets iprange start at 94.254. i have use netgear switches gs108v2 but still get the issue with different ip adress. would apriciate answer on how i can get all devies on the same ip-range thanks

  • Is there a unix command to output time elapsed during a command?

    I love using time to find out how long a command took to execute but when dealing with commands that execute sub-commands internally (and provide output that allows you to tell when each of those sub-commands start running) it would be really great to be able to tell after what number of seconds (or milliseconds) a specific sub-command started running. When I say sub-command, really the only way to distinguish these from the outside is anything printed to standard out. Really this seems like it should be an option to time.

  • Authentication between web server and sql server

    So, we're restructuring out development environment. We've installed SQL Server onto it's own server, and we are publishing our internal web applications onto a seperate web server. However, the problem is that for some reason the authentication of the user between the web server and sql server gets lost, resulting in the Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON' error. Where do i start troubleshooting? SQL Server is set up for TCP and remote connections.

  • Is there a better IIS 7 bindings dialog?

    Some of my sites in IIS have 20-30 bindings and the bindings dialog box in IIS 7 is 4 lines, which makes editing bindings a real pain. Are there any replacements/upgrades for the dialog specifically? I realize behind the scenes it is just updating an XML file, but I would prefer not to directly edit the XML file or start writing a separate management application, if possible.

  • How do you splice out a part of an xvid encoded avi file, with ffmpeg? (no problems with other files)

    Im using the following command, which works for most files, except what seems to be xvid encoded ones /usr/bin/ffmpeg -sameq -i file.avi -ss 00:01:00 -t 00:00:30 -ac 2 -r 25 -copyts output.avi So this should basically splice out 30 seconds of video + audio, starting from 1 minute mark. It does START encoding at the 00:01:00 mark but it goes all the way to the end of the file for some reason, ignoring that I want just 30 seconds. The output looks like this.     If I have an image with a table containing several rows, say like the periodic table: Are there any tool I can use to split this into one smaller image with the H He row, another image for the Li Be ... Ne row, etc? The tool does not have to detect the row borders by itself, specifying a start offset + row height in pixels is ok. Manually selecting and cutting/copying in gimp is not an option, I have way to many rows to process.

I'm trying to redirect a client in my router through my desktop PC, so i can dump the traffic and analyze it (its potential source of poisoning the network with malicious packets). However i don't have a second NIC on my hands and i was hoping i can redirect all the traffic from that IP through my PC. In essence to become MITM for the client. Does anyone have any idea where to start: Current state: (localip)-(router)-(internet) And what i want to do: (localip)-(pc)-(router)-(internet)

  • Windows 7 accounts on a 2008r2 DC keep getting locked out randomly

    As the title states, this happens randomly to Windows 7 accounts on our Windows 2008R2 domain controller. We just had this start happening after changing from 123together hosted exchange to Rackspace hosted exchange. Also around this time our passwords on the DC started expiring, but not the exact day, and everyone has different days they need to change it before. It has only affected 10 out of 30 accounts, and I see no link between them. What are some fixes I should run or things to look for?

    Hi I'm writing code in Visual Studio but whenever I want to test the application and press the green arrow for "Start debugging", Visual Studio does not automatically recompile the active solution for me and I have to manually build the solution then debug it.
