• Is there a way to make the flash[:notice] appear above, or before, the flash[:error] ?

  So, I'd like to be able to display both a flash[:notice] and a flash[:error] on the same action, but I'd like for the :notice to always be displayed above (or before) the error. Is there a way to do this? In my controller, I thought I could just code the flash[:error] before the flash[:notice], so that rails will display it correctly, and it does a vast majority of the time. But every now and then they are randomly switched, and I can't seem to figure out why. So, how can I ensure that a flash[:notice] is always displayed above an :error ?

• CodeIgniter: json_decode array issues

  On my client side I'm sending an ajax request with jQuery in the following matter: $.post(script.php, { "var1":"something", "var2":"[1,2,3]" }, function(data) { }, "json"); On the server side, in the CodeIgniter's controller I'm receiving the values like so: $var1 = trim($this->input->post('var1')); $var2 = trim($this->input->post('var2')); My question is how do I convert the string in $var2 into a PHP array. I tried using json_decode($var2, true) but it returns a null since "[1,2,3]" is not a legal JSON string by itself. Also, if you believe there is a better way for me to read the values on the server-side please show me how. Thank you.

  I have a page that I want to redirect to that requires parameters in the URL: http://www.mysite.com/myController/myAction/param1:val1/param2:val2 I know that there is a Cake PHP redirect function for redirecting that works as follows: $this->redirect(array("controller" => "myController", "action" => "myAction", $data_can_be_passed_here), $status, $exit); How do I add the parameters that I want as part of the url using the above function? I would think that there might be another element that I could add to array so that I can pass along "param1:val1" and "param2:val2". Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  I am working with URL routing , and have some issues. I want my url to be like this: www.domain.com/p/myproduct But I also want to be able to retrieve the ID of the product, without accessing the database. I thought about having a URL like: www.domain.com/p/myproduct/1 But if I could hide the ID it would be better. So, how do I do it the simplest way?   This question is largely based on this one: Link The main difference being that I want to pass in arguments to the closure as well.   I have four UINavigationControllers assigned each to a tab in a UITabBarController. Each UINavigationController manages a UIViewController, which may itself branch out into other UIViewControllers below it hierarchally. My question is, in a case in which a user, under one tab, has navigated to a UIViewController that hierarchally BELOW the main UIViewController managed by the UINavigationController, and then the user pushes a different tab, and then goes back to the original tab, HOW can I make it so that the user is presented with the main UIViewController managed by the UINavigation controller? and not the page where he left off?

  Hello everyone, I have a weird problem with positioning a window on screen. I want to center the window on the screen, but i don't know how to do that. Here's what i've got. The window is created from nib by the main controller: IdentFormController *ftf = [[IdentFormController alloc] initWithWindowNibName:@"IdentForm"]; [[ftf window] makeKeyAndOrderFront:self]; Now the IdentFormController has awakeFromNib() method in which it tries to position the window. For the sake of simplicity i've just tried to do setFrameOrigin(NSMakePoint(0, 0)). What happens is as follows: The first time i create this window, everything works as expected. But if i create it again after releasing the previous, it starts appearing at random positions. Why does it do that?

  I'm trying to use a dummy TempDataProvider for some of my controllers. What I need is to keep the Session opened until the page is rendered, because in my JSP y use the lazy attributes of the object i load from the DB.   I have a NSArrayController bound to a NSTableView. With this I have the typical Add/Remove buttons. While Adding an item is very straight forward (I call a method, create an object with default values and add it) I have problems deleting objects from the controller. I know I can do this the easy way when connecting the button with the remove action from the ArrayController. But this is not what I want. I need to remove the object manually because I have some additional code to process. Anway, removing objects seems far more complcated then I expected. It already tried: NSArray *items = [doToItemsArrayController selectedObjects]; [doToItemsArrayController removeSelectedObjects:items]; or NSIndexSet *iSet = [doToItemsArrayController selectionIndexes]; [doToItemsArrayController removeSelectionIndexes:iSet]; None of them seems to work. How do I remove the selected Object from an NSArrayController with Objective-C code?

• How can I get a rails server to use the same databse that cucumber uses during a test?

  The cucumber test first makes an entry in the database and posts a form to a second server. This second server does some processing in background and then hits the first app (where the test is being run) with some data that the cucumber test needs to know about. I've tried running the main server via script/server and script/server -e test while the cucumber test is running, but I can't seem to force the server to use the same database that cucumber is using when it runs its step definitions. That is, when the second server pushes some data to a controller in the main server, the main server doesn't know about any entries that cucumber has made in the database. How can I get cucumber and the main server to use the same database?

  Hi guys, I am trying to control a media device which has lot of multimedia content that it can play using another device(remote control device) like an ipad connected to the LAN. (UPnP) I want the media device to be able to send the content listing to the remote device so that it will be rendered as a webpage on the remote controller. And actions on the webpages needs to be sent to the the device as commands to execute (like play, pause, next etc). The media device is an embedded device, hence can't have any server side scripting, all has to be done on the client side. I want the page rendered to be HTML5. So, is it possible to generate dynamic HTML5 pages using just client side scripting? Thanks a lot. I am an embedded systems developer hence clueless about the web designing stuff.

I'm building a "rolodex" type application, and this question is about the best way to handle creating an entity along with several relationship entities at the same time. For (a contrived) example: My application will have a Person model, which has_one Contact_Info model. On the create.html.erb page for Person it makes sense for the user of my appliction to create the person, and the contact_info at the same time. It doesn't seem right to include details for creating a contact directly in the create view/controller for person. What's the rails way to handle this?

Now my friends, they want to have a website to present the existing products for their customers. I know, I know they will ask me to do this one day. So in the beginning, I have made the controller name to start with "Admin". But now I am not sure the best way to implement their requirements. Could you advise me? 1.For the security reason, I did not allowed anonymous user to access the website a part from the CSS and image files. My question is the controllers' name are not folders' name, how could I set this up? 2.I'm planning to put the admin section into an "area" and will it be a good way to go?   We will be using custom Silverlight 4.0 controls on our ASP.NET MVC web page to display data from our database and was wondering what the most efficient method was? We will be having returned values of up to 100k records (of 2 properties per record). We have a test that uses the HTML Bridge from Javascript to Silverlight. First we perform a post request to a controller action in the MVC web app and return JSON. This JSON is then passed to the Silverlight where it is parsed and the UI updated. This seems to be rather slow, with the stored procedure (the select) taking about 3 seconds and the entire update in the browser about 10-15sec. Having a brief look on the net, it seems that WCF is another option, but not having used it, I wasn't sure of it's capability or suitability. Does anyone have any experiences or recommendations?

Question: is this a good idea, or is it better to do content-type casting directly within a controller (or other class) method where the type to cast is known? Currently I'm doing this kind of thing everywhere: toJson( i18n("account not found") ) toJson( Map('orderNum-> orderNum) ) while I'd like the toJson/toXml conversion to happen based on accepts header post-request.

  The scenario I want two different protocols interact with each other is as below: A and B is two different protocols. First A will interact with the server and retrieve some values. Only after A finishes retrieving the values , B will start to interact with the server. Now my problem is that is there an elegant way to initial B when A retrieves the values. Currently I just initial B in A's data process function. But i don't think that this is an elegant way. What I mean an elegant way is that the initialization of B is done by a flow controller or something like that, but not another protocol.   For a simple rails application ( 1.86 /2.3.5) , lets say I run a simple scaffold script/generate scaffold blog title:string content:text published:date When I open up the new / edit view for the blog controller in index/new.html.erb , I see that the drop down enabler for date select has a date range of 2005 - 2015 , i.e 5 years +/- I tried to change this default behavior by introducing this code f.date_select :entered, :start_year => 1970, :end_year => 2020 Apparently this has no impact to the behavior mentioned above. How do I increase the date_select range which seems to be default?

  Hi, I'm trying to understand why: NSLog(@"self = %p", self); in awakeFromNib prints a different value than the same NSLog in viewDidLoad? This isn't a huge problem because I don't need the awakeFromNib but I would like to understand how it works.
