Is it OK? Should i save points separately?

  I'm pretty new to Android development. Trying to accomplish something fairly simple -- change some displayed text when a timer ticks. Here's the potentially relevant code: CountDownTimer currentTimer; Resources res; TextView timerText; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_exercise); res = getResources(); timerText = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.timer_text); } @Override protected void onStart() { super.onStart(); //"Get ready" countdown currentTimer = new CountDownTimer(5000, 1000) { @Override public void onTick(long millisUntilFinished) { timerText.setText("" + (int)Math.ceil(millisUntilFinished / 1000.0)); } @Override public void onFinish() { ... } }; currentTimer.start(); } This works fine on an emulated 4.2.2 device, but on a 4.1.2 device (both physical and emulated), the changed TextView appears as such while the countdown proceeds: If you can't tell, that's the numbers 5,4,3 overlayed. So, when I set a new string for the TextView, the new string is displayed but without replacing the old string. Any other TextViews used in my app behave in the same way. Any ideas what the problem is and how to fix it?   I am trying to write a generic one-size-fits-most repository pattern template class for an Entity Framework-based project I'm currently working on. The (heavily simplified) interface is: internal interface IRepository<T> where T : class { T GetByID(int id); IEnumerable<T> GetAll(); IEnumerable<T> Query(Func<T, bool> filter); } GetByID is proving to be the killer. In the implementation: public class Repository<T> : IRepository<T>,IUnitOfWork<T> where T : class { // etc... public T GetByID(int id) { return this.ObjectSet.Single<T>(t=>t.ID == id); } t=t.ID == id is the particular bit I'm struggling with. Is it even possible to write lamba functions like that within template classes where no class-specific information is going to be available?

• Android Apps not working in emulator

  None of my apps work in the emulator. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and everytime I try to access my UI, the app crashes. All I get is an "Sorry! The application ... has stopped unexpectedly". • How to call a C# DLL from InstallerClass overrides?

  I have a setup and deployment project. In it I have an Installer.cs class, created from the basic Installer Class template. In the Install override, I have this code taken from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/d9k65z2d.aspx. public override void Install(IDictionary stateSaver) { base.Install(stateSaver); System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://www.microsoft.com"); } Everything works when I install the application, but the problem arises when I try to call anything from an external C# class library that I also wrote. Example: public override void Install(IDictionary stateSaver) { base.Install(stateSaver); System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://www.microsoft.com"); MyLibrary.SomeMethod(); } The problem is, I don't believe the library call is actually happening. I tagged the entire process line by line, with EventLog.WriteEvent()s, and each line in the Install override is seemlingly 'hit', putting entries in the event log, but I do not receive any exceptions for the library call SomeMethod(), yet the EventLog entries and other actions inside SomeMethod() are never created nor any of its actions taken. Any ideas?

  Give a base class "Base", I want to write a method Test, like this: private static bool Test(IEnumerable enumerable) { ... } such that Test returns true if the type of o implements any interface of IEnumerable where X derives from Base, so that if I would do this: public static IEnumerable<string> Convert(IEnumerable enumerable) { if (Test(enumerable)) { return enumerable.Cast<Base>().Select(b => b.SomePropertyThatIsString); } return enumerable.Cast<object>().Select(o => o.ToString()); } ...that it would do the right thing, using Reflection. I'm sure that its a matter of walking across all the interfaces of the type to find the first that matches the requirements, but I'm having a hard time finding the generic IEnumerable< among them. • refactor LINQ TO SQL custom properties that instantiate datacontext

  I am working on an existing ASP.NET MVC app that started small and has grown with time to require a good re-architecture and refactoring. One thing that I am struggling with is that we've got partial classes of the L2S entities so we could add some extra properties, but these props create a new data context and query the DB for a subset of data. This would be the equivalent to doing the following in SQL, which is not a very good way to write this query as oppsed to joins: SELECT tbl1.stuff, (SELECT nestedValue FROM tbl2 WHERE tbl2.Foo = tbl1.Bar), tbl1.moreStuff FROM tbl1 so in short here's what we've got in some of our partial entity classes: public partial class Ticket { public StatusUpdate LastStatusUpdate { get { //this static method call returns a new DataContext but needs to be refactored var ctx = OurDataContext.GetContext(); var su = Compiled_Query_GetLastUpdate(ctx, this.TicketId); return su; } } } We've got some functions that create a compiled query, but the issue is that we also have some DataLoadOptions defined in the DataContext, and because we instantiate a new datacontext for getting these nested property, we get an exception "Compiled Queries across DataContexts with different LoadOptions not supported" . The first DataContext is coming from a DataContextFactory that we implemented with the refactorings, but this second one is just hanging off the entity property getter. We're implementing the Repository pattern in the refactoring process, so we must stop doing stuff like the above. Does anyone know of a good way to address this issue?

I am using the same repository and context throughout the process I have a booking entity and a userExtension Entity Below is my image i then get my form collection back from my page and create a new booking public ActionResult Create(FormCollection collection) { Booking toBooking = new Booking(); i then do some validation and property assignment and find an associated BidInstance toBooking.BidInstance = bid; i have checked and the bid is not null. finally i get the user extension file from the Current IPRINCIPAL USER as below UserExtension loggedInUser = m_BookingRepository.GetBookingCurrentUser(User); toBooking.UserExtension = loggedInUser; The Code to do the getUserExtension is : public UserExtension GetBookingCurrentUser(IPrincipal currentUser) { var user = (from u in Context.aspnet_Users .Include("UserExtension") where u.UserName == currentUser.Identity.Name select u).FirstOrDefault(); if (user != null) { var userextension = (from u in Context.UserExtension.Include("aspnet_Users") where u.aspnet_Users.UserId == user.UserId select u).FirstOrDefault(); return userextension; } else{ return null; } } It returns the userextension fine and assigns it fine. i originally used the aspnet_users but encountered this problem so tried to change it to the extension entity. as soon as i call the : Context.AddToBooking(booking); Context.SaveChanges(); i get the following exception and im completely baffled by how to fix it Entities in 'FutureFlyersEntityModel.Booking' participate in the 'FK_Booking_UserExtension' relationship. 0 related 'UserExtension' were found. 1 'UserExtension' is expected. then the final error that comes to the front end is: Metadata information for the relationship 'FutureFlyersModel.FK_Booking_BidInstance' could not be retrieved. Make sure that the EdmRelationshipAttribute for the relationship has been defined in the assembly. Parameter name: relationshipName.. But both the related entities are set in the booking entity passed thruogh PLEASE HELP Im at wits end with this

• Deserialize generic collections - coming up empty

  I've got a settings object for my app that has two collections in it. The collections are simple List generics that contain a collection of property bags. When I serialize it, everything is saved with no problem: XmlSerializer x = new XmlSerializer(settings.GetType()); TextWriter tw = new StreamWriter(@"c:\temp\settings.cpt"); x.Serialize(tw, settings); However when I deserialize it, everything is restored except for the two collections (verified by setting a breakpoint on the setters: XmlSerializer x = new XmlSerializer(typeof(CourseSettings)); XmlReader tr = XmlReader.Create(@"c:\temp\settings.cpt"); this.DataContext = (CourseSettings)x.Deserialize(tr); What would cause this? • Syncronization Exception

  Hi I have two threads, one thread processes a queue and the other thread adds stuff into the queue. I want to put the queue processing thread to sleep when its finished processing the queue I want to have the 2nd thread tell it to wake up when it has added an item to the queue However these functions call System.Threading.SynchronizationLockException: Object synchronization method was called from an unsynchronized block of code on the Monitor.PulseAll(waiting); call, because I havent syncronized the function with the waiting object. [which I dont want to do, i want to be able to process while adding items to the queue]. How can I achieve this? • Flex - Flash Builder Design View not showing embedded fonts correctly

  Tools: Air 2, Flex SDK 4.1, Flash Builder, Halo component set (NO Spark being used at all) Fonts work perfectly when running the appliction, but not in design view. This effectively makes design view WORTHLESS because it's impossible to properly position components or labels without knowing what the true size is (it changes depending on font...) ... CSS included in root component like so: <fx:Style source="style.css"/> CSS file: /* CSS file */ @namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"; global { font-family:Segoe; font-size:14; color:#FFFFFF; } mx|Application, mx|VBox, mx|HBox, mx|Canvas { font-family:Segoe; background-color:#660000; border-color:#222277; color:#FFFFFF; } mx|Button { font-family:Segoe; fill-colors:#660000, #660000, #660000, #660000; color:#FFFFFF; } .... Interestingly (or buggily?), when I try pasting the style tag into a subcomponent (lower than the top level container), I get a bunch of warnings in the subcomponent editor view stating that CSS type selectors are not supported in.. (all the components in the style sheet). Yet, they do work when the application is executed. Huh? Now some of the examples I found says we should do something like if (!$this->getUrls()->contains($url)) { // add url } but this doesn't work as this compares the element values. As the $url doesn't have id value yet, this will always fail and $url will be dublicated. So I'd really appreciate if someone could explain how I can add an element to the ArrayCollection without persisting it and avoiding the duplication? I don't think this is efficient as there might be thousands of urls per user.

  I have a MessageHandler with a dependency declared as: public IRepository<Person> PersonRepository {get;set;} I set up my Unity container with: IUnityContainer container = new UnityContainer(); container.AddNewExtension<Interception>(); container.RegisterType(typeof(IRepository<Person>), typeof(Example.Data.InMemory.Repository<Person>)); container.Configure<Interception>() .AddPolicy("PersonAddAdvice") .AddMatchingRule(new AddMatchingRule()) .AddCallHandler(new PersonAddedEventPublishingCallHandler()); container.Configure<Interception>() .SetInterceptorFor<IRepository<Person>>(new InterfaceInterceptor()); Then I Init my endpoint with: class EndpointConfig : IConfigureThisEndpoint, AsA_Publisher, IWantCustomInitialization { public void Init() { NServiceBus.Configure.With() .Log4Net() .UnityBuilder(ContainerConfig.LoadContainer()) .XmlSerializer(); } } (ContainerConfig.LoadContainer() returns the pre-configured IUnityContainer) the problem is that the IRepository dependency in my MessageHandler is not resolved (it's null when handling the messages). If I remove the interception configuration from the Unity container, and simply do this: IUnityContainer container = new UnityContainer(); container.RegisterType(typeof(IRepository<Person>), typeof(Example.Data.InMemory.Repository<Person>)); It works as expected, and the MessageHandler has an instance if IRepository resolved.

  I have a DAO that I'm trying to inject into a couple different places: @Repository public class FooDAO { @Autowired private HibernateManager sessionFactory; @PostConstruct public void doSomeDatabaseStuff() throws DataAccessException { ... } } And my application-context.xml is a fairly simple context:component-scan: <beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:context="http://www.springframework.org/schema/context" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans-2.0.xsd http://www.springframework.org/schema/context http://www.springframework.org/schema/context/spring-context-2.5.xsd" default-init-method="init" default-destroy-method="destroy"> <context:component-scan base-package="top.level"/> </beans> The DAO is accessed from a couple servlets in my application server through @Autowired properties. As far as I understand, anything annotated with @Repository should default to being a singleton and thus doSomeDatabaseStuff() should only be called once (as is my intention). The problem is that I'm seeing doSomeDatabaseStuff() called multiple times. What's going on here? Have I set something up incorrectly? I'm using spring 3.0.0. Thanks for the help.

  Looking to parse the following text file: Sample text file: <2008-10-07text entered by user<2008-11-26additional text entered by user I would like to parse the above text so that I can have three variables: v1 = 2008-10-07 v2 = text entered by user v3 = Ted Parlor v1 = 2008-11-26 v2 = additional text entered by user v3 = Ted Parlor I attempted to use scanner and useDelimiter, however, I'm having issue on how to set this up to have the results as stated above.   Using the following Java code to compress/decompress bytes[] to/from GZIP. Also I noticed that in the standard C# function that BitConverter reads the first four bytes and then the MemoryStream Write function is called with a start point of 4 and a length of input buffer length - 4.
