I want to use the connection string App.Config file. Also is it possible to use NHibernate connect to 2 databases (different connection strings) if so how?
Hi folks,
got an new assignment covering Oracle databases. My problem now is that I am completely new to the Oracle system and never worked with it before. I need to develop a concept covering the installation and configuration of the server. Afterwards I need to migrate the old server to the new while ensuring date consistence.
I just wanted to ask if you guys have some useful links for introduction and of course good literature / books on this topic?
Thanks and cheers from Cologne

Is it possible to determine the country of a mobile phone browser?
I've read elsewhere that mobile phone IP addresses frequently change and can be reported as originating from different countries by some IP location databases. 1
In my rails app I am running rake db:create:all in order to create the databases and I am prompted that the collations do not match.
Is there a way to change the default MySQL collation? If not what is the best way around this?
Thanks
Recently I have read a lot about different NoSQL databases and how they are being effectively deployed by some major websites out there. I'm starting a project in which I think the schema-free nature of a database such as MongoDB would be tremendously useful. Everything I have read though seems to indicate that the main advantage of a NoSQL database is scalability. Is choosing a NoSQL database for the schema-free design just as legitimate a design decision as that of scalability?
Hello,
Its regarding QTP
can we create database checkpoints for Web applications
actually while creating database checkpoints we have to create DSN .
So my question is can we create DSN for remote databases hosted on some other server.
Please enlighten me on this.

I am writing a sql query which involves finding if timestamp falls in particular range of days.
I have written that in the postgres but it doesn't works in Oracle and SQL Server:
AND creation_date < (CURRENT_TIMESTAMP - interval '5 days')
AND creation_date >= (CURRENT_TIMESTAMP - interval '15 days')
Is there are common way to compare the timestamp across different databases?
I have 3 databases. 1 links to 2, 2 links to 3. I'd like to query tables in 3, from 1. I tried third_db_tab@3@2 and it did not work. Wondering if this is possible and if so, what the syntax is.
I'm considering optimal open source solution for storing xml documents with further querying on them effectively. Amount of data will be small. As far as I understand native xml databases might form a proper solution for my case. They obviously store xml documents in highly efficient way. It would be great to learn your experience.
Any suggestions on proper solution? Have you got any experience employing xml storage engines in your apps?
I am trying to find out how to modify the Colors / Fonts used in the Schema Compare "Object Definitions" window that appears after a comparison is done between two databases.
The color scheme I have is unreadable, but I cannot seem to find the right settings in the Tools/Options/Environment/Fonts and Colors dialog.
Thanks for any help.

Can someone point me to a good tutorial explaining the Entity Framework using an XML file instead of a database?
I have seen some good tutorials with SQL databases, but I can't make the leap to an XML file.
Thanks!
which database should I use, if my application is going to be in multiple languages (including Chinese, Japanese etc)? In other words, is MySQL better or worse than Postgres to handle unicode etc? (these are the only two databases my hosting company has)
Also, which language is better for handling unicode? PHP or Ruby/Rails?
Hello
I haven't used any database system enough but i believe i know logic of databases and i have learnt little sql so i shouldn't start to learn ORM before learn them well?
Where can i start to learn .NET Entity Framework and which version of framework i have to start 3.5 or 4.0 because i heard that 4.0 has strong support for Entity Framework.I am looking sources web pages,e-books or other else.
On my VDS I use nginx, django and tornado. I had just one project, Now i gonna deploy another one project with a different domain name. I want to use different databases and folders.
I know how to configure nginx for serving static resourses , but what about tornado?
Should i run separeted instance of tornado for each project or is there any better solution?
Is there a tool like phpMyAdmin which can be configured to access only a single MySQL database in a server?
I cannot use phpMyAdmin because it allows access to all databases. A view that can allow a user to create/delete/insert/update tables should do. I remember using a software similar to this but dont remember what it was. It would also be great if its in PHP.
So I installed a trial of SQL Server 2008 enterprise edition while waiting for MSDN licenses to come through - I now want to uninstall the trial and replace it with a developer edition installation.
However, I'd like to first know how long I have left on the trial. Is there a way to do this programmatically with SQL? I looked at create_date in sys.databases, but these give dates that are in 2003 (which is, I guess, when master and model were originally created).
Is it possible to write a plugin or a form for SQL Server Enterprise Manager version 8? I'm doing some simple queries all the time to admin the databases. So wondering if I could write something for it.
Hi
I currently loook after 20 odd databases in SQL server 2005 and need a tool for monitoring the performance and keep me informed if a database is running slow. Is there anything I can run within Managment studio of any other good third party tool (Pref free) that can do the job.
Thanks
I am very new to programming, so please bear with me, and apologies in advance if at first I dont make sense...!
I am doing an undergrad programming project, and need to make some databases within a Java program. I am using eclipse (galilo) to write my program. I have downloaded a connector/J, but havent the foggiest how i should use it!

I want to have a login form on a charity website I am building (it's for a friend, and I'm learning on the go), and I want to know what languages/software should I learn to build databases for user logins and info? Note: it HAS to be secure and relatively simple to learn for someone with moderate programming experience.
Update: I understand that CMSs offer good tools for logins etc. but I want to do this all by myself.
Usually I just dump the database and reimport it with a new name. This is not an option for very big databases. Apparently RENAME {DATABASE | SCHEMA} db_name TO new_db_name; does bad things, exist only in a handful of versions, and is a bad idea overall.
Oh, one more thing - this needs to work with InnoDB, which stores things very differently than MyISAM.
Hi,
I have 2 database:
production and to test.
Production should have the same fields and tables like testdatabase.
is there any software, or script to show difference between this two databases?
Hi, does anyone know of a known method in PHP to auto connect to MySQL db/table in case an app is using multiple databases on multiple hosts?
Question 1: are there scripts around that allow to auto connect to necessary host/DB based on query?
Question 2: if above is not possible, is there a known approach to properly passing host/DB info to make sure app is properly connected before executing the query?
