We need to write a script that needs to process movies (using C-based ffmpeg) and also update our databases. Also there would be some thread programming to accomplish with a worker-manager design. I am thinking of writing this in Ruby is there any good language to do this, if so what is its primary advantage for choosing?
We are based on the Mac platform.
Thanks in advance.
This is a simple database security & performance question, but I've always used either a special user (eg. mydbuser), or Windows' built-in NETWORK SECURITY account as the owner when attaching databases to my SQL Server instances.
When deploying my database to a production server, is there a specific user I should stick to or avoid? I would think that using an account with a set password could open the database up to a potential security issue.
Transactional Replication on SQL Server 2005 Enterprise x64 (SP3).
I need to add check constraints to a databases that is the target for a replication, but I cannot add the check constraints to the publishing database. The Problem is that the replication process keeps removing my constraints. How do I prevent this?
Say that I have a query of the form
SELECT * FROM MYTABLE WHERE MYCOL in (?)
And I want to parameterize the arguments to in.
Is there a straightforward way to do this in Java with JDBC, in a way that could work on multiple databases without modifying the SQL itself?
The closest question I've found had to do with C#, I'm wondering if there is something different for Java/JDBC.
Hi,
My application uses its own file format (compressed SQLite databases) to store user created data.
1) I would like to know how to provide keywords, tags to Windows so that Vista search function can include my file format when indexing.
2) I would like to provide a properties page like you see when you right click a Microsoft Word document and select properties.
Kindly point me in the right direction.
Thank you.
I wrote a WinForms app using .Net and C#. The app accesses DirectoryServices and SQL databases.
The new Win7 workplaces are not allowed to have local admin users and this app will not run.
How can I identify the actions in the app which need local admin rights?
I want to setup 2 MySQL databases which differ in schema in that, one is normalized and the other is flat for quicker reads and writes. The information being stored in both DBs is the same, but the representation is obviously different owing to the different design approaches.
I need to find a robust solution to sync information in real time from my normalized version to my flatter version.
I am building a django based application and its time to add the DHTML stuff.
One of my fields represent a database field with this format databaseName.tableName.fieldName
I would like to have javascript autocompletion in three levels, say once I type part of the database names I get a list of all matching databases, one that is selected I get a list of all tables, and once that is selected I get a list of all fields in that table, all in the same textfield.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have an archive system that had to be on two sql databases for simplicity
one is
Archive2009
and the other Archive2010
they are both on the same sql server and instance and have identical structures
however I have a page that needs to view the old one and the new one (I can make two seperate pages)
How best would I go about doing this? Dynamically changing the connection string etc?
11g and 10g both have the all_queue_subscribers (and user_, dba_) dictionary tables for listing the subscribers to queues, but this doesn't exist on 9i. Does the same concept of queue subscribers exist on 9i databases, and where can I get this information from?
I am attempting to make a program that will pull data such as OS, IP, Server Name, Websites, Databases, etc. in a server farm. Is there a .Net library that allows you to connect to servers and get information such as this with the proper authentication? I do not really know where to start, thank you.
Most of the servers are 2003 standard/enterprise both x86 and x64.
Good Morning,
I have connected to my SQL 2005 server - and have managed to list all of the databases on that server. Now I would like to run a check on each database to see if I have permission to view that database..
How would I go about this?
Many Thanks,
Joel
I created a Windows Forms Application to which I added a DataGridView and LINQ to SQL Classes from one of my databases. I can successfully bind one of my database's tables to my DataGridView:
var dataSource = from c in _db.NetworkedEquipments
select c;
dataGridView1.DataSource = dataSource;
However, the foreign keys get duplicated, that is, the columns appear twice. How can I prevent this?
I found lot of open source XML databases (TPOX, Timber , DBXML), but they are working on XPath and XQuery, I need a system which is developed for the purpose of "Keyword search on XML documents".
So I want to make a program that allows you to store and search for user names/passwords for online sites there signed up to.
I know C# has some database options but I don't know much about it. I also heard that it can read/write excel files.
Whats do you think is best for storing the data?
ALSO do databases need to be stored online on a sever, or can they reside in the program
files?
I don't know how to copy table data from
one server - database - table
TO
other sever - database - table.
If it is with in the same server and different databases, i have used the following
SELECT * INTO DB1..TBL1 FROM DB2..TBL1 (to copy with table structure and data)
INSERT INTO DB1..TBL1(F1, F2) SELECT F1, F2 FROM DB2..TBL1 (copy only data)
Now my question is copy the data from SERVER1 -- DB1-- TBL1 to SERVER2 -- DB2 --TBL2
I have 2 tables in 2 different databases, one is in a mysql server and one is in an informix server.
Using .net and odbc, is there a way to identify the differences of both tables and merge them?
so that both informix database and mysql database have the same data.
thanks.
I currently have a SQL Server 2008 database in which I am planning to separate out some tables to other databases. I want to be able to replace all references to the separated tables from the original database using views. Is there a better way (other than manually changing all FK and SProc references) to switch all the dependencies to reference the view instead of the table?
When setting up foreign keys in SQL Server, under what circumstances should you have it cascade on delete or update, and what is the reasoning behind it?
This probably applies to other databases as well.
I'm looking most of all for concrete examples of each scenario, preferably from someone who has used them successfully.
Hi, i've recently done a migration from a really old version of some application to the current version and i faced some problems while migrating databases.
I need a query that could help me to compare columns in two tables. I mean not the data in rows, i need to compare the columns itself to figure out, what changes in table structure i've missed.
Hi all:
I am working on a C# application that involves using XML schema file as databases for message definitions and XML file as databases for message data.
I was following the example I found:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.xml.xmldatadocument.dataset%28v=VS.100%29.aspx
I wrote my own xsd and XML file. I used the same approach in the example, read the xsd file and then load
the xml file. But I don't have any "Rows" created for my DataTable. I used debugger to step through my codes. When I am get my DataTable use xmlDataDocument.DataSet.Tables["name of the table"], the Rows property of that tables is 0.
Does anybody know what might cause the DataSet tables not get populated after I loaded the xmlDataDocument with XML file?
Here is a fragment of XSD file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<xs:schema id="test"
targetNamespace="http://tempuri.org/test.xsd"
elementFormDefault="qualified"
xmlns="http://tempuri.org/test.xsd"
xmlns:mstns="http://tempuri.org/test.xsd"
xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
>
<xs:element name="reboot_msg">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:complexContent>
<xs:extension base="header_s">
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="que_name">
<xs:simpleType>
<xs:restriction base="xs:string">
<xs:minLength value="4"/>
<xs:maxLength value="8"/>
</xs:restriction>
</xs:simpleType>
</xs:element>
<xs:element name="priority" type="xs:unsignedShort"/>
</xs:sequence>
</xs:extension>
</xs:complexContent>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:element>
and here is a fragment of the XML file:
<?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>
<test xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" >
<reboot_msg>
<message_length>16</message_length>
<message_type>7</message_type>
<message_sequence>0</message_sequence>
<que_name>NONE</que_name>
<priority>5</priority>
</reboot_msg>
It could be the XML and XSD file I created missed something. Please help.
Thanks
It should be a tool to enable versioning of a database schema and efficiently updating databases with older versions of the schema:
robustness, does it handle all edge cases
support for data migration
command line execution
flexibility, can some data be compared as well
In the answers a breakdown on support for these points (and anything I may have missed) would be appreciated.
I have 2 databases on SQL (identical). I want a table from one database to be copied to the other database. They are both the same name and the original table can be overeritten.
Cheers
