• IE History Tracking, IFRAMES, and Cross Domain error...

  So here's the deal. We have a Flash application that is running within an HTML file. For one page we call a legacy reporting system in ASP.NET that is within an IFRAME. This page then communicates back to the Flash application using cross-domain scripting (document.domain = "domain" is set in both pages. THIS ALL WORKS. Now the kicker. Flash has history tracking enabled. This loads the history.js file that created a div tag to store page changes so the back and forward buttons work in the browser. Which works for Firefox and Chrome as they create a div tag. HOWEVER In Internet Explorer, history.js creates another IFRAME (instead of a DIV) called ie_historyFrame. When the ScriptResource.axd code attempts to access this with: var frameDoc = this._historyFrame.contentWindow.document; we get an "Access is Denied" error message. ARGH! We've tried getting a handle to this IFRAME and inserting the document.domain code. FAIL. We've tried editing the historytemplate.html file that flex also uses to include document.domain... FAIL. I've tried to edit the underlying ASP.NET page to disable history tracking in the ScriptManager control. FAIL. At my wit's end on this one. We have users who need to use IE to access this site. They are big clients who we cannot tell to just use Firefox. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

• Capture keystrokes (e.g., function keys) while a messagebox is up

  We have a large WinForms app, and there is a built-in bug reporting system that can be activated during testing via the F5 Key. I am capturing the F5 key with .Net's PreFilterMessage system. This works fine on the main forms, modal dialog boxes, etc. Unfortunately, the program also displays windows messageboxes when it needs to. When there is a bug with that, e.g., wrong text in the messagebox or it shouldn't be there, the messagefilter isn't executed at all when the messagebox is up! I realize I could fix it by either rewriting my own messagebox routine, or kicking off a separate thread that polls GetAsyncKeyState and calls the error reporter from there. However I was hoping for a method that was less of a hack. • Prevent full table scan for query with multiple where clauses

  A while ago I posted a message about optimizing a query in MySQL. I have since ported the data and query to PostgreSQL, but now PostgreSQL has the same problem. The solution in MySQL was to force the optimizer to not optimize using STRAIGHT_JOIN. PostgreSQL offers no such option. • BN_hex2bn magicaly segfaults in openSSL

  Greetings, this is my first post on stackoverflow, and i'm sorry if its a bit long. I'm trying to build a handshake protocol for my own project and am having issues with the server converting the clients RSA's public key to a Bignum. It works in my clent code, but the server segfaults when attempting to convert the hex value of the clients public RSA to a bignum. • TDD - testing business rules/validation in ASP.NET MVC

  Hi, I am using the sharp architecture so I can easily use mocks etc. in my unit tests and/or during TDD. I have quite complicated business rules and would like to test them at the controller level. I am just wondering how other people do this? For me validation tests business rules at three levels: (1) Property level (e.g. property is required) (2) Intra property level (e.g. start date < end date) (3) Persistence level (e.g. name is unique, parent cannot be child of child) My validation framework also assigns errors to properties. I am just wondering what other people do? Do you write a test for each business rule and check whether the correct error message is assigned to the correct property (i.e. looking at the ASP.MVC ModelState)? I hope my question makes sense. • SubmitChanges doesn't save but removes inserts from change set, no errors

  Hi Everybody, I have a deeper question regarding debug functionality of Linq to Sql SubmitChanges() Function. I want to save a record in a table of a locally cached db (localdbcache: server SqlExpress 2008 client SqlCE). Before calling SubmitChanges I can find the new item via DataContext.GetChangeSet(). After calling Submit Changes, the items to insert have been removed from the ChangeSet. (That's what this function is supposed to do.) There are no Changes Conflicts and no error in the db's log output. No Exception at all. • Using SQL Alchemy and pyodbc with IronPython 2.6.1

  I'm using IronPython and the clr module to retrieve SQL Server information via SMO. I'd like to retrieve/store this data in a SQL Server database using SQL Alchemy, but am having some trouble loading the pyodbc module. • Unable to install Management Studio Express 2008 due to Visual Studio 2008 installation

  I am attempting to install Managment Studio Express 2008 on a Win7 system that already has Visual Studio 2008 installed. I have installed VS 2008 SP1, which results in the About box for Visual Studio giving a version of 9.0.30792.1 SP. When I attempt the Management Studio installation I see a message that tells me that I must install SP1. However, this is already installed. After a fair bit of searching I came across the link below, where someone had commented with a command line option for the installation executable that forced it to skip the check. However, this simply pushed the error to later in the installation process. http://www.thushanfernando.com/index.php/2008/08/10/fix-rule-previous-releases-of-microsoft-visual-studio-2008-failed/. This seems to be a perennial problem for Microsoft. I can't remember a time when I've painlessly installed both Management Studio and Visual Studio. I can't imagine that this is an unusual combination, after all! Anyone had any success in solving this problem before I take on the day-long task of uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Studio and all its associated bits?

• MySQL is running VERY slow

  I have two servers: a VPS and a laptop. I recently re-built both of them, and MySQL is running about 20 times slower on the laptop. Both servers used to run CentOS 5.8 and I think MySQL 5.1, and the laptop used to do great so I do not think it is the hardware. For the VPS, my provider installed CentOS 6.4, and then I installed MySQL 5.1.69 using yum with the CentOS repo. For the laptop, I installed CentOS 6.4 basic server and then installed MySQL 5.1.69 using yum with the CentOS repo. my.cnf for both servers are identical, and I have shown below. For both servers, I've also included below the output from SHOW VARIABLES; as well as output from sysbench, file system information, and cpu information. I have tried adding skip-name-resolve, but it didn't help. The matrix below shows the SHOW VARIABLES output from both servers which is different. Again, MySQL was installed the same way, so I do not know why it is different, but it is and I think this might be why the laptop is executing MySQL so slowly. Why is the laptop running MySQL slowly, and how do I fix it? • SSL certificates: No Client certificate key exhange

  I am trying to access a WCF web service, that is using two way SSL encryption. When I try to call the service I get a System.ServiceModel.Security.SecurityNegotiationException: Could not establish secure channel for SSL/TLS with authority 'XXX.xx'. --- System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel. I have tried activating wire shark, to see what is sent to and from the server: I see a client hello and a server hello. But there is no client response to the server hello. I was expecting a "Certificate. Client key exchange. Change cipher. Encrypted handshake Message" package, but none is sent. I'm thinking it is a problem with the certificate sent by the server, that somehow my client server does not trusy it. Here is what I have already tried: I have created the certificate, through the proper authority, though I could have made a mistake in the certificate request without knowing it. I have added the two root certificates to: trusted root certificates, trusted publishers and trusted people. I have also added the client certificate to trusted people. My colleague has succeded in establishing connection on a win 2008 server (i'm using a 2003, because it is necessary for some odd reason - don't ask). I can't see any differences in our approach, so i'm a bit lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Don't Understand Sql Server Error

  I have a table of users (User), and need to create a new table to track which users have referred other users. So, basically, I'm creating a many-to-many relation between rows in the same table. So I'm trying to create table UserReferrals with the columns UserId and UserReferredId. I made both columns a compound primary key. And both columns are foreign keys that link to User.UserID. Since deleting a user should also delete the relationship, I set both foreign keys to cascade deletes. When the user is deleted, any related rows in UserReferrals should also delete. But this gives me the message: 'User' table saved successfully 'UserReferrals' table Unable to create relationship 'FK_UserReferrals_User'. Introducing FOREIGN KEY constraint 'FK_UserReferrals_User' on table 'UserReferrals' may cause cycles or multiple cascade paths. Specify ON DELETE NO ACTION or ON UPDATE NO ACTION, or modify other FOREIGN KEY constraints. Could not create constraint. See previous errors. I don't get this error. A cascading delete only deletes the row with the foreign key, right? So how can it cause "cycling cascade paths"? Thanks for any tips.

  I developp a Java application using Windows Desktop Search from which I can retrieve some information about files on my computer such as urls (System.ItemUrl). An example of such url is file://c:/users/ausername/documents/aninterestingfile.txt for "normal" files. This field give also urls of mail items indexed from Outlook or Thunderbird. Thunderbird's items (only available using vista and seven) are also files (.wdseml). But outlook's items urls start with "mapi://" like : mapi://{S-1-5-21-1626573300-1364474481-487586288-1001}/[email protected]($b423dcd5)/0/Inbox/???????????????????????? The problem I have is opening the real item from Java in Outlook using this url. If I copy/paste it in the run dialog of Windows, it works ; it also works if I use "start" followed by the copied/pasted url in command line. The url seems to be encoded in UTF-16. I want to be able to write such code : String url = "mapi://{S-1-5-21-1626573300-1364474481-487586288-1001}/[email protected]($b423dcd5)/0/Inbox/????????????????????????"; Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /C start " + url); I doesn't work and I've tried other solutions like : String start = "start"; String url = "mapi://{S-1-5-21-1626573300-1364474481-487586288-1001}/[email protected]($b423dcd5)/0/Inbox/????????????????????????"; FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(new File("test.bat"); fos.write(start.getBytes("UTF16"); fos.write(url.getBytes("UTF16")); fos.close(); Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /C test.bat"); without any success. Using the solution above, the file "test.bat" contains the correct url and the "start" command, but the run of "test.bat" results in the well known error message : '¦' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Has anybody an idea to be able to open "mapi://" items from Java ?

• Indy IdSMTP and attachments in Thunderbird

  Hello! Using the latest snapshot of Indy tiburon on D2010. Looking at the source of the message in Thunderbird, the attachment is there. The only difference I can find between messages send by indy and other clients is that Indy messages have this order: Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="Z\=_7oeC98yIhktvxiwiDTVyhv9R9gwkwT1" MIME-Version: 1.0 while any other clients have the order: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="Z\=_7oeC98yIhktvxiwiDTVyhv9R9gwkwT1" Don't know if THAT is the source of the problem, but if so: is this a bug on Thunderbird or is this a problem with indy which "malforms" the headers of the messages? Is this order a problem? Does that matter anyway?

• Setting custom behaviour via .config file - why doesn't this work?

  I am attempting to insert a custom behavior into my service client, following the example here. I appear to be following all of the steps, but I am getting a ConfigurationErrorsException. Is there anyone more experienced than me who can spot what I'm doing wrong? • Thread resource sharing

  I'm struggling with multi-threaded programming... I have an application that talks to an external device via a CAN to USB module. I've got the application talking on the CAN bus just fine, but there is a requirement for the application to transmit a "heartbeat" message every second. This sounds like a perfect time to use threads, so I created a thread that wakes up every second and sends the heartbeat. The problem I'm having is sharing the CAN bus interface. The heartbeat must only be sent when the bus is idle. How do I share the resource? Here is pseudo code showing what I have so far: TMainThread { Init: CanBusApi =new TCanBusApi; MutexMain =CreateMutex( "CanBusApiMutexName" ); HeartbeatThread =new THeartbeatThread( CanBusApi ); Execution: WaitForSingleObject( MutexMain ); CanBusApi->DoSomething(); ReleaseMutex( MutexMain ); } THeartbeatThread( CanBusApi ) { Init: MutexHeart =CreateMutex( "CanBusApiMutexName" ); Execution: Sleep( 1000 ); WaitForSingleObject( MutexHeart ); CanBusApi->DoHeartBeat(); ReleaseMutex( MutexHeart ); } The problem I'm seeing is that when DoHeartBeat is called, it causes the main thread to block while waiting for MutexMain as expected, but DoHeartBeat also stops. DoHeartBeat doesn't complete until after WaitForSingleObject(MutexMain) times out in failure. Does DoHeartBeat execute in the context of the MainThread or HeartBeatThread? It seems to be executing in MainThread. What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way? Thanks, David

  Hi, I'm trying to configure repication on SQL Server 2005. I can done it using wizard. But when I'm trying to run generated scripts by this wizard the error message appears: Msg 14013, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_MSrepl_addpublication, Line 159 This database is not enabled for publication. Msg 18757, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_MSrepl_addpublication_snapshot, Line 66 Unable to execute procedure. The database is not published. Execute the procedure in a database that is published for replication. Msg 14013, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_MSrepl_addarticle, Line 168 This database is not enabled for publication. Msg 14294, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_verify_job_identifiers, Line 25 Supply either @job_id or @job_name to identify the job. It's a bit strange, because when I'm running this query on database where I clicked and then removed publication, everyting is going well. The problem is when I'm using my query on new database. What is more I'm using sp_replicationdboption stored procedure. When I'm tryin to run it, it says: The replication option 'publish' of database 'ReplicationTest00' has already been set to true. Please help me resolve this issue.

• WPF Background Thread Invocation

  Maybe I'm mis-remembering how Winforms works or I'm overcomplicating the hell out of this, but here's my problem. I have a WPF client app application that talks to a server over WCF. The current user may "log out" of the WPF client, which closes all open screens, leaves only the navigation pane, and minimizes the program window. When the user re-maximizes the program window, they are prompted to log in. Simple. But sometimes things happen on background threads - like every 5 minutes the client tries to make a WCF calls that refreshes some cached data. And what if the user is logged out when this 5 minute timer triggers? Well, then the user should be prompted to log back in...and this must of course happen on the UI thread. private static ISecurityContext securityContext; public static ISecurityContext SecurityContext { get { if (securityContext == null) { // Login method shows a window and prompts the user to log in Application.Current.Dispatcher.Invoke((Action)Login); } return securityContext; } } So far so good, right? But what happens when multiple threads hit this spot of code? Well, my first intuition was that since I'm syncrhonizing across the Application.Current.Dispatcher, I should be fine, and whichever thread hit first would be responsible for showing the login form and getting the user logged in... Not the case... Thread 1 will hit the code and call ShowDialog on the login form Thread 2 will also hit the code and will call Login as soon as Thread 1 has called ShowDialog, since calling ShowDialog unblocked Thread 1 (I believe because of the way the WPF message pump works) All I want is a synchronized way of getting the user logged back into the application...what am I missing here? • ASP.NET MVC 4 async child action

  I have an ASP.NET MVC 4 application targeting .NET 4.5. One of our child actions makes a call out to a web service using HttpClient. Since we're blocking on IO waiting for the HttpClient response, it makes a great deal of sense to convert the code to the async/await pattern. However, when MVC 4 attempts to execute the child action, we get the following error message: HttpServerUtility.Execute blocked while waiting for an asynchronous operation to complete. At first glance, it appears as though MVC 4 does not support async/await within a child action. The only remaining option is to run using synchronous code and force a "Wait" on the async task. As we all know, touching .Result or .Wait() on an async task in an ASP.NET context will cause an immediate deadlock. My async logic is wrapped in a class library, so I can't use the "await blah.ConfigureAwait(false)" trick. Remember, tagging "async" on the child action and using await causes an error, and that prevents me from configuring the await. I'm painted into a corner at this point. Is there any way to consume async methods in an MVC 4 child action? Seems like a flat out bug with no workarounds.

But when I did an edit to a file and then do a 'git commit -a -m "test"' and then do a git push. • Simulating aspects of static-typing in a duck-typed language

  In my current job I'm building a suite of Perl scripts that depend heavily on objects. (using Perl's bless() on a Hash to get as close to OO as possible) Now, for lack of a better way of putting this, most programmers at my company aren't very smart. Worse, they don't like reading documentation and seem to have a problem understanding other people's code. Cowboy coding is the game here. Whenever they encounter a problem and try to fix it, they come up with a horrendous solution that actually solves nothing and usually makes it worse. This results in me, frankly, not trusting them with code written in duck typed language. As an example, I see too many problems with them not getting an explicit error for misusing objects. For instance, if type A has member foo, and they do something like, instance->goo, they aren't going to see the problem immediately. It will return a null/undefined value, and they will probably waste an hour finding the cause. Then end up changing something else because they didn't properly identify the original problem. So I'm brainstorming for a way to keep my scripting language (its rapid development is an advantage) but give an explicit error message when an an object isn't used properly. I realize that since there isn't a compile stage or static typing, the error will have to be at run time. I'm fine with this, so long as the user gets a very explicit notice saying "this object doesn't have X" As part of my solution, I don't want it to be required that they check if a method/variable exists before trying to use it. Even though my work is in Perl, I think this can be language agnostic.
