• Error opening .wmv file

  I tried to open a .wmv file in Thunderbird. I was asked to download files in order to have it accessible. At the end of the installation An error occurred - Location not found. error message displayed with just the OK button available. Now when I press the Play button just the error message displays so I am not sure which packages need to be installed/uninstalled. I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 (32-bit) with open-jdk-7. Error was generated when installing: GStreamer ffmpeg video plugin It seemed that it took a while to have the process completing all steps of the download / install before the error message displayed.

• Error when setting Piwik analytics

  I've uploaded the latest version of Piwik unto my web server, which is hosted by go daddy.com, on a linux hosting plan. I'm setting it up (accessing it from my browser as instructed) and I have the "Piwikinstallation" page open on step 3 (database set-up ) of 9. I don't know what to imput in the field "database server"... the default is the number 127.0.0.1 When I leave that input as is, and click "Next" leaving the gives the error: "Error when trying to connect to database server: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2013] Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111" and changing that input to "localhost" gives me another error: "Error when trying to connect to database server:SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)"

• 2013 U.S. GAAP Financial Reporting Taxonomy Available for Public Review and Comment

  FASB recently released the proposed 2013 U.S. GAAP Reporting Taxonomy. Comments are due October 29, 2012 to be finalized and published early 2013.  The proposed 2013 U.S. GAAP taxonomy and instructions on how to submit comments are available at the FASB’s XBRL page. In previous blog entries, I talked about how Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management supports the latest taxonomy, enabling financial managers to easily comply with the latest filing requirements. The taxonomy is a list of computer-readable tags in XBRL that allows companies to annotate the voluminous financial data that is included in typical long-form financial statements and related footnote disclosures. The tags allow computers to automatically search for, assemble, and process data so it can be readily accessed and analyzed by investors, analysts, journalists, and regulators. You do not have to have Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, used for consolidating financial results, to generate XBRL. You just need Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management to generate XBRL instance documents from financial applications, such as Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle PeopleSoft, Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, and Oracle Fusion General Ledger. To generate XBRL tags and complete SEC filings using your existing financial applications with Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management, here are the steps: Download the XBRL taxonomy from the SEC or XBRL Website into Hyperion Disclosure Management to create a company taxonomy. Publish financial statements from the general ledger to Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word. Create the SEC filing in the Microsoft programs and perform the XBRL tag mapping in Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management. Ensure that the SEC filing meets XBRL and SEC EDGAR Filer Manual validation requirements. Validate and submit the company taxonomy and XBRL instance document to the SEC. • Koans, now available in Python flavor

  Recently a Python developer friend with whom I was pair programming with suggested that I show him how to write a little Ruby. I responded by telling him to check out Ruby Koans as a starting point. However I wanted to try that in reverse at the same time with me learning some Python. I did a bit of googling, and sure enough someone had started writing some Python Koans. It just needed finishing... So, a few weeks later Python Koans is now complete and ready for action! It is available through Mercurial on Bitbucket: http://bitbucket.org/gregmalcolm/python_koans/wiki/Home It is also mirrored on Github: http://wiki.github.com/gregmalcolm/python_koans/ Converting it was fairly easy. Aside from the differing philosophical approaches behind the two languages, Ruby and Python are fairly similar. We had to come up with completely new material for a few subjects like multiple inheritance and decorators, but for most features in Ruby there is something roughly comparable in Python. I highly recommend writing tests (or koans) as a means to lean a new language or framework. I've learned a lot from doing this.

• Visual Studio 2010 Keyboard Shortcut Posters Available

  I’m a firm believer in the productivity gains you experience when using keyboard shortcuts in Visual Studio. If you’re not using keyboard shortcuts while coding then your productivity is suffering. Some of my favorites (omitting the obvious ones like F5 to start debugging) as are: Ctrl+K, C – Comment section of code Ctrl+K, U – Uncomment section of code Ctrl+K, D – Format the current document (indentation, etc.) Shift+Alt+C – Add new class to a project Shift+Alt+A – Add existing item to a project Ctrl+Shift+A – Add new item to a project The good news is all of these and a TON of others are all documented in the Visual Studio Keyboard Shortcut Posters (available as PDFs). The only problem is there are so many you need a printer capable of printing on larger paper because while you can read them all on 8 1/2 x 11 paper in landscape mode, for them to be a valuable quick reference on your cubicle wall you’re going to need to print them on large paper. If you don’t have a printer capable of producing large sized printouts head down to Office Depot, Staples, FedEx Office, or your favorite print shop and have them print one for you. Oh and one last thing, I’d really like Microsoft to take those people’s picture off them. Really? Do we need to look at these people when trying to improve our productivity? Have a day. :-|

• Packages are not available under 13.04?

  I have a small problem with installing packages under Ubuntu 13.04. Yesterday I wanted to install "pdfshuffler" (https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/raring/pdfshuffler/). If I go to the Ubuntu Software Center and look for "pdfshuffler" there is one item in the list (the package I want to install). When I click once on this item, the install button does not appear. If I then on furter information a error message appears telling me that there is no package called pdfshuffler in my package sources. I tried to install other packages like Eclipse or Supertux but nothing works. Why can't Ubuntu find these packages? Best regards, Sven...

  13 days ago I wrote a blog post entitled Introducing sp_ssiscatalog (v1.0.0.0) in which I first made mention of sp_ssiscatalog, an open source stored procedure intended to make it easy to query the SSIS Catalog. I have been working on some enhancements since then and hence v1.0.1.0 is now available for download from Codeplex.   after having installed ubuntu 13.04 i can not connect to the internet wirelessly or wired? can only connect to internet by using "try ubuntu" via ethernet cable, ive tried seeking help in so many different ways yet getting no positive outcome at all, will someone please explain why i can only connect with ethernet while i have the cd in the tray? ive also tried downloading b43 drivers to connect to the internet but apparently i dont have enough disk space, what is going on here? i have the disk in the tray now at the screen where you can either try or install, if someone could give me a step by step from here it would probably cut out all this hassle of me not knowing whats going on

• AutoVue for Agile 20.2.2 Now Available!!

  We are happy to announce that AutoVue for Agile 20.2.2 is now available via the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud.   AutoVue for Agile 20.2.2 is a minor release within the 20.2 product family that is specifically targeted for users of Agile PLM 9. AutoVue 20.2.2 brings a number of improvements, including support for SolidWorks 2013, AutoCAD and Inventor 2014, SolidEdge ST5, and Cadence Allegro 16.6.   It also includes support for Adobe Illustrator CS4 and up.   Another improvement involves bringing our support for Oracle Linux and Java Virtual Machine versions in-line with Agile's support. Please see our previous post (https://blogs.oracle.com/enterprisevisualization/entry/autovue_20_2_2_is) for more details on the specifics introduced in AutoVue 20.2.2. • Error when compiling bochs

  I'm trying to compile bochs. Here is my configure command: ./configure --enable-fpu --enable-3dnow --enable-x86-64 --enable-a20-pin --enable-cdrom --enable-debugger --enable-debugger-gui --enable-disasm Then I enter the "make" command and it compiles for some time. But then comes an error. /usr/bin/ld: gui/libgui.a(gtk_enh_dbg_osdep.o): undefined reference to symbol 'pthread_create@@GLIBC_2.2.5' //lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0: error adding symbols: DSO missing from command line collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [bochs] Error 1 Can anybody help me with this error? • WHMCS Fatal error: Out of memory while View Invoice PDF

  I can log into WHMCS & can access everything I should be able to access, but if i try to click View PDF Invoice, the following error will occur, Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 67633152) (tried to allocate 76 bytes) in /home/xxxx/public_html/whmcs/includes/classes/class.tcpdf.php on line 8419 I have already set the allocated Memory limit to 256MB, but the error still occurs. At that time of the error, the process memory is exceeding the allocation I set. • Problem installing skype on ubuntu 12.10 : Error in sound packages

  I tried to install Skype on my ubuntu 12.10 via command line $ sudo apt-get install skype I received this error : The following packages have unmet dependencies: libasound2-plugins:i386 : Depends: libasound2:i386 (>= 1.0.25) but it is not going to be installed skype-bin:i386 : Depends: libasound2:i386 (>= 1.0.23) but it is not going to be installed E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution). • nagios3 Error: Could not read object configuration data!

  I have a brand new install of nagios3 on ubuntu 12.04. After I log in to the web interface and click any link I get the error: Error: Could not read object configuration data! Here are some things you should check in order to resolve this error: Verify configuration options using the -v command-line option to check for errors. Check the Nagios log file for messages relating to startup or status data errors. I ran it with the -v option and it reported no errors: Total Warnings: 0 Total Errors: 0 Things look okay - No serious problems were detected during the pre-flight check The nagios log and apache error log and debug log all have nothing regarding this. Does anyone know how to turn on logging that will give me some kind of useful error? Or if anyone knows how to fix this specific problem without additional logging, I guess that's okay too. Thanks!

• How to fix "error: unknown file system" on all available partitions

  I've had a running problem with removing Linux from my Windows 7 laptop. Initially, it was installed as a dual-boot, and worked well. To remove, I deleted the partitions on my laptop. This removed grub, and I was left with needing to enter: set root=... set prefix=... insmod normal normal each restart. I didn't restore the Windows boot-loader and have since re-partitioned my drive. Now, upon reaching the command prompt screen, an ls query showshd0, with three partitions, but none of them have a recognizable boot-loader as each returns with error: unknown file system. Booting from a Windows 7 rescue disk doesn't seem to work, as it sends me to the same command prompt terminal. All I'm looking to do is restore the boot-loader, either grub or Windows 7. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As the next step, in order to enable timely delivery of our releases to you, we are pleased to announce the support for automatic download and install of StreamInsight 1.1 release via Microsoft Update starting this week.
