  • version control on large files

    We happily use SVN for SCM at work. Currently I've got our binary assets in the same SVN repository as our code. SVN supports very large files (it transmits them 'streamily' to keep memory usage sane), but it is SLOOWWWWW. What asset management software do you recommend, for about a GB (and growing) worth of assets? We would prefer branching and merging (different assets & config files go to different customers).

  • Autofac in web applications, where should I store the container for easy access

    I'm still pretty new to using Autofac and one thing I miss in the documentation and examples is how to make it easy to get to the configured container from different places in a web application. I know I can use the Autofac controller factory to automatically resolve constructor injected dependencies for controllers, but how about the other stuff you might need to resolve that is not injected yet. Is there an obvious pattern I am not aware of for this? Thank you!

  • VB.NET WebBrowser control not navigating to a local document

    I have this code set up to navigate to a certain .html document depending on what's selected from a ListBox: Private Sub FileList_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles FileList.SelectedIndexChanged HelpWindow.Navigate(System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory & "help\" & fileArray(FileList.SelectedIndex, 1)) End Sub The problem is, when I first select something in the ListBox, it successfully navigates to that file and displays it. But when I select something a second time it doesn't change. All of the paths it's trying to navigate to are correct. I've checked this 1000 times. Anyone have any clues why this isn't working?   • When is onBind or onCreate called in an android service browser plugin?

    I have adapted the example plugin of the android source and the browser recognises the plugin without any problem. Here is an extract of AndroidManifest.xml: <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name" android:debuggable="true"> <service android:name="com.domain.plugin.PluginService"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.webkit.PLUGIN" /> </intent-filter> </service> </application> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="7" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.webkit.permission.PLUGIN"></uses-permission> The actual Service class looks like so: public class PluginService extends Service { @Override public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0) { Log.d("PluginService", "onBind"); return null; } @Override public void onCreate() { Log.d("PluginService", "onCreate"); // TODO Auto-generated method stub super.onCreate(); AssetInstaller.getInstance(this).installAssets("/data/data/com.domain.plugin"); } } The AssetInstaller code is supposed to extract some files required by the actual plugin into the /data/data/com.domain.plugin directory, however wether onBind nor onCreate are called. But I get lot's of debug trace of the actual libnpplugin.so file I'm using. So the puzzle is when and under what circumstance is the Service bound or created in case of a browser plugin. As things look the service seems to be a dummy service. Having said that, is there another intent that can be executed at installation time probably? The only solution I see right now is installing the needed files from the native plugin code instead. Any ideas? I know this is quite a tricky question ;)

  • MS Access Force report footer to bottom of page

    I am trying to make a report for a proposal. I would like to keep a professional look and always force the terms section to the bottom of the page. I could use the page footer but I only want the terms to show on the last page. My idea is somehow with VBA to set the height of a dummy group such that it forces the report footer to the bottom. The problem is that you can't explicitly set the height of a section. Anyone else out there with another idea (That works)? :-) Thanks, Jeff

    Hello, I am trying to terminate an openvpn task, spawned via NSTask. My question: Should I send ctrl+c (SIGINT) to the input NSPipe for my NSTask? inputPipe = [NSPipe pipe]; taskInput = [inputPipe fileHandleForWriting]; NSString dataString = @"\cC"; [taskInput writeData:[dataString dataUsingEncoding: [NSString defaultCStringEncoding]]]; Alternatively, I was thinking about using kill( pid, SIGINT ); but it would be much more complicated since the process ID has to be determined via a detour ([task processIdentifier] does not help here) - the original NSTask calls: /bin/bash -c sudo -S | mypassword .... That's not nice, I know but it is only called once and the sudo password has been entered in that case already. thanks for any suggestions/opinions/etc. Ron

    Hi all: I have 2 tables: "products" and "pieces" PRODUCTS idProd product price PIECES id idProdMain idProdChild quant idProdMain and idProdChild are vinculated with the table: "products". Other considerations is that 1 product can have some pieces and 1 product can be a piece. Price product equal a sum of quantity * price of all their pieces. EXAMPLE: TABLE PRODUCTS (idProd - product - price) 1 - Computer - 300€ 2 - Hard Disk - 100€ 3 - Memory - 50€ 4 - Main Board - 100€ 5 - Software - 50€ 6 - CDroms 100 un. - 30€ TABLE PIECES (id - idProdMain - idProdChild - Quant.) 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 2 - 1 - 3 - 2 3 - 1 - 4 - 1 WHAT I NEED? I need update the price of the main product when the price of the product child (piece) is changed. Following the previous example, if I change the price of this product "memory" (is a piece too) to 60€, then product "Computer" will must change his price to 320€ How I can do it using queries? Already I have tried this to obatin the price of the main product, but not runs.   • SVN Source control issues when merging changes

    I have seen where changes have been made on one code file by two developers code like this: x++ End up like this: x++ x++ where due to carriage returns being inserted/removed (I think) one line has become silently merged as two lines of the same code (no conflicts) Everything compiles but suddenly tests are failing and weird behaviour ensues. Should this be possible? How do I guard against it?

  • Struggling to create correct relationships in MS Access

So for example: the unit 'Advanced Software Engineering' maybe a core unit for the award 'Software Engineering BSc' but only an optional unit for the course 'Web Technology BSc'. I've used flags for that purpose. A student is enrolled on an award so I need to get a complete list of core and optional units (bearing in mind that a student chooses 1 out of many possible optional units). Also, these units have events, e.g, a lecture, workshop or seminar, etc. and those events have sessions or instances of events where students enrolled on that particular unit are required to attend, and those attendances are stored in a separate table to form a register. So I need a hierarchy of expanding the tables something like this I guess: Awards - Students - Units - Sessions - Attendances Any help with this would be appreciated... It's blowing my mind and I'm really close to going insane! My tutor didn't spot I'd got it wrong when I showed my original data model to him and it's due in next week! Thank you :D

    When you branch some code, finish working with the branch, and merge it back to the trunk, what do you do with the branch? Delete it from the repository? Keep it for reference? It seems like you would keep it for reference, but I imagine the /branches directory could get pretty cluttered. (If this isn't something people generally agree on, please comment and I'll make it a community wiki.)

    I have a couple of mdb files with the exact table structure. I have to change the primary key of the main table from autonumber to number in all of them, which means I have to: Drop the all the relationships the main table has Change the main table Create the relationships again,... for all the tables. Is there any way to export the relationships from one file and importing them to all the rest? I am sure this can be done with some macro/vb code. Does anyone has an example I could use? Thanks.
