• How to change the default terminal emulator on Windows (cmd)?

  Is it possible to change the default terminal emulator on Windows (7 and 8 in particular) from cmd to, for example, Console2 or ConEmu? In essence, I want all command line tools, whether launched by double clicking, from "Run" or by other processes to use the custom terminal. This is a trivial matter on Linux, is it even possible on Windows? It would be especially helpful if this could be done via a script.

  I have a Windows server that will sometimes reboot into safe mode after updates. I'm working on that issue but what I'd really like to know is how can I check to see if Windows is running in safe mode or not. Ideally I would like to incorporate it into a script that would send a passive check to our Nagios box with the status. Is there some environmental variable I can use or some way to get this information via the command line?

• Need to remove borders from multiple images

  I have a few hundred family images and they were all sent to us with borders that I would like to remove. Thankfully the borders are all the same size of 20 pixels and they are all .jpg so this will probably make things easier but im looking for a way to "batch process" all of them quickly so I dont need to open photoshop for each image and do it individually.   Can anyone recommend a linux command line tool to monitor the number of bytes transferred between the local server and a specified IP address/port. The equivalent tcpdump command would be: tcpdump -s 0 -i any -w mycapture.trc port 80 host google.com which outputs : 46 packets captured 131 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel I'd like something similar that outputs: 54 bytes out, 176 bytes in I'd like it to work on RHEL and be free/open-source. It would be good if there was an existing tool which I was just missing too!

  I would like to run :helptags ~/.vim/doc in vim, but from command line. The purpose is to run the command occasionally with other commands to keep my tools up-to-date (probably in a cron job on my development machine. I looked around man vim, but cannot figure out what option I need to pass. I think this is a general question for vim, but I'm using Mac and Ubuntu for the development.

• recursively delete empty directories in windows

  I have a directory on my Windows 7 machine that has hundreds if not thousands of sub-directories. Some of them have files, some do not. I want to delete all the empty directories. Looking at the del and rmdir DOS command, it does not look like you can recursively do this without deleting all the files. Is there a way to do this from the command line? Or is there a tool that would do it for me?

I'm trying to run command which contains quotes.. example: Shell("cmd.exe") SendKeys.Send("cd "c:\users\abc def" ") <<<<--- this line SendKeys.Send("{ENTER}") there is an syntax error. the problem is that I need to add quotes to some commands as there is a space in folderpath.
