  • Zend_Search_Lucene vs SOLR

    - by spacemonkey
Hi, I have recenlty stumbled into Zend Lucene port of Lucene project. I have a little bit experience with SOLR so I would like to know what is the difference between two of them especially from performance and installation side. As much as I know SOLR requires Tomcat serverlet running in web hosting in order to work, what about Zend Lucene library? I am also a bit confused what means "being implemented on the top of Lucene"?

  • RoR: How to prevent Url change after erronous edit?

    - by CharlesS
In a standard generated scaffold project, when you are on an edit page, the URL looks like; /something/3/edit However, when the page doesn't validate, it runs the following code: format.html { :action => "new" } and the page url changes to; /something/3 (no /edit) Why is this is this and how to prevent it, as it looks inconsistent to me and thus confusing. Thanks

  • How to gather arbitrary length list data in ASP.NET MVC.

    - by C. Ross
I need to gather a list of items associated with another item from my user in a ASP.NET MVC project. I would like to have a controller action like bellow. [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Create(int x, int y, IEnumerable<int> zKeys) { //Do stuff here } How can I setup my form to pass data in this way? If data of this particular form can't be provided, what's the next best way to pass this type of information in ASP.NET MVC?

  • How to deploy to Tomcat from NetBeans?

    - by deamon
I've added Tomcat in the "Tools Servers" menu and as you can see it appears in the list of servers: But when I try to run my project, I cannot select Tomcat! The drop-down with servers is empty. I tried it with NetBeans 6.8 and 6.9 Beta. Any idea?

  • Inheriting a Base Form but Paste/Cut Commands Not Captured

    - by ohu812
I created a base form that has a specific size and an icon as a base for all forms created in my project (to be consistent in looks). The problem is, for some reason if I add a Text box to the Child form, I can no longer execute shortcuts like Copy (CTRL+C) etc into the Textbox. What should I do to handle this OTHER THAN writing code to capture those on the KeyUp control? This is also the case for RichTextBox control as well. Thanks

  • Is the WCF REST Starter Kit dead in the water?

    - by Richard Ev
We are looking at switching from using WCF for our service layer in applications to REST. So far we are assuming that the way to do this is to use the WCF REST Starter Kit. However this is still in Preview 2 and hasn't been updated since March 2009. Is this project dead in the water? If so, what alternatives do we have for creating .NET-based REST services? (Some are suggesting using ASP.NET MVC, which we're already using for our UI layer)

  • OpenSource programming-languages in development?

    - by pile of junk
I'm very interested in interpreter and compiler development and because I don't want to continue building mini compilers and interpreters I thought I could help some open-source project. Are there currently open-source projects on compilers/interpreters in early stages seeking developers? I mean yeah.. There won't be much to do for someone like me in Python, Ruby, and so on.

  • Maven and bit-for-bit identical builds

    - by mattjames
If your project requirements for a large application with many 3rd party dependencies included: 1) Maintain a configuration management system capable of reproducing from source bit-for-bit identical copies of any build for 25 years after the original build was run and 2) Use Maven2 as a build tool to compile the build and to resolve dependencies What process would need to be followed to meet those requirements?

  • Linux tool to send raw data to a TCP server

    - by paul simmons
Hi, I am aware that this is not a direct 'development' question but I need that info to test a development project, so I think someone could've hit similar problem. I will test a software that runs a TCP server and according to sent commands replies some answers. I will test the software and do not want to write code if it doesn't work well. So I want to send those commands and test drive the server software. How can I achieve this with a Linux box?

  • .net compliant version control system that can be installed on a shared hosting (with no SSH/root Access)

    - by Farshid
I searched a lot in SO and other websites for a version control system that can be installed on a shared windows hosting that lets me create repositories for putting my project files on it and supply me with version control facilities but I did not find one. I looked to see whether I can install git, Mercurial or TFS in a shared hosting and I did not found any answer. I want to know if you know any system that can be installed on a shared windows hosting and please tell your recommendations if you have had an experience before.

  • Source Code Browser

    - by James Fielding
Hello I'm looking for a piece of relatively simple software to browse large C++ project. What I would like is something that is somewhere between a simple text editor and a full-blown IDE like Eclipse. I would like syntax highlighting, a way to see all classes/methods defined in a file, a way to find where a particular method is called from and where a variable is declared/defined. Any ideas? Thank you!

  • Overinclusion of libraries C++

    - by wyatt
I'm reading about how to put a makefile together, but no-one seems to mention what to do if your files require different sets of libraries, they all seem to use the same set of libraries for each file. Since it seems unlikely that every single file has the same libraries, I take it the list they use must amalgamate all of the libraries required across the project. I just wanted to know if there's any downside to including too many libraries, or if the compiler works out which ones are needed and ignores the rest? Thanks

  • HTML5 elements working in Chrome but not Safari or Firefox?

    - by Chris Armstrong
Hi, I'm using the HTML5 elements and in a project i'm working on (see it here) and the css seems to be working fine in Chrome. However, it doesn't appear to be working in Safari or Firefox (I haven't tested IE, but I'd imagine it's the same), and the page layout is all over the place. Any ideas why this may be? I know Firefox and Safari both support these elements, and Safari is webkit-based like Chrome, so I can't figure out what the problem is.
