  • Reinstalling Mac OS X without original disc

    I've had Mac OS X Lion installed on a mid-2011 iMac. I've erased the main partition and when I try to repair OS installation it connects to the Internet and says that it can't continue and I should contact Apple Support. I don't have original CD which should've come with an iMac. How can I install at least some version of OS X? Update: I've downloaded what looks like an installation app for Mac OS X Lion with a 4.6Gb InstallESD.dmg file but can't open it on Windows. I've tried PowerISO and MagicISO to no effect. Is it possible to create Mac OS installation media on Windows?

    I downloaded garageband from mac app store but something happend with my internet connection - probably connection crashed - and downloading (or installing) stopped. When apps instalation didnt start, then I cklicked on install button at Mac AppStore. In Launchpad was created new icon of garageband which was downloaded again and internet connection crashed again.     I was wondering if there is a way to access a deeply nested shared networked Windows folder on Mac (Lion) like you can on windows with the Run box. say I know the folder I want is on the computer Homer-PC, the G drive, the folder ABC/234/CDE on Windows I can Win+R then \Homer-PC\G\ABC\234\CDE return and it should open that folder directly, Is there something similar on the Mac?     In earlier versions of Mac OS X one could delete a file from the trash by opening a terminal window and typing rm ~/.Trash/file_i_want_to_delete. See this previous post. Unlike earlier versions in Mac OS X Snow Leopard one can "put back" a file from the trash into its original directory. Will the rm trick still work? Testing shows it does delete the file but what happens to the "put back" information that specifies the directory from which the file was deleted?

    So I've got a Mac in the post coming to me, and will probably be doing quite a bit of development on it so I am looking for a text editor (PHP + HTML mainly). I curently use Notepad++ on Windows and I simply cannot live without the function list plugin (It displays all functions in the current PHP file in a box on the right).     A friend of me recently dumped his Mac fpr a PC. He used Microsoft Office for Mac and has several hundred Files (Word, Excel) which were copied over to the new PC using a USB disk. Microsoft Office is now unable to read any of there files. I suspect this is because of little endian vs. big endian. Is there any tool which can converted all theses files automatically, doing this by hand would take ages.

In between, I use bridged option and obtain the the VM's IP dynamically; tried also static assignment from the free addresses but the problem persisted. Any ideas what is wrong?
