    I was wondering if there is a tool (automator script or a third party) to generate code for simple scenarios like add another property. I don't like going to two or three places and write the same thing over and over again. instead I want to say "I want a new property of type int with name X" and it generates the lines in .h and .m files for me in one go.

(also I've marked this language agnostic even though my example is C#)

  • Performance: recursion vs. iteration in Javascript

    I have read recently some articles (e.g. http://dailyjs.com/2012/09/14/functional-programming/) about the functional aspects of Javascript and the relationship between Scheme and Javascript (the latter was influenced by the first, which is a functional language, while the O-O aspects are inherited from Self which is a prototyping-based language). However my question is more specific: I was wondering if there are metrics about the performance of recursion vs. iteration in Javascript. I know that in some languages (where by design iteration performs better) the difference is minimal because the interpreter / compiler converts recursion into iteration, however I guess that probably this is not the case of Javascript since it is, at least partially, a functional language.

  • Strong name, Manifest, and Code Signing

    What order should these be done in? I'm doing this from the command prompt for a .Net app. I was able to do just strong name and code signing successfully, but when I tried all three, it doesn't look like it worked (== Vista still trying to run the app with elevated privileges resulting in a prompt, though I set the requestedexecutionlevel at asInvoker) Thanks in advance

    To commemorate the public launch of Stack Overflow, what's the shortest code to cause a stack overflow? Any language welcome. ETA: Just to be clear on this question, seeing as I'm an occasional Scheme user: tail-call "recursion" is really iteration, and any solution which can be converted to an iterative solution relatively trivially by a decent compiler won't be counted. :-P ETA2: I've now selected a “best answer”; see this post for rationale. With multiple cores and/or threads we need to change how we tackle problems in code. Yes we can still continue to write code to perform an action in a top down fashion to complete a task. This apprach will continue to work; however, you are not taking advantage of the extra processing power available. The best way to take advantage of the extra cores prior to .NET Framework 4.0 was to create threads and/or utilize the ThreadPool. For many developers utilizing Threads or the ThreadPool can be a little daunting. The .NET 4.0 Framework drastically simplified the process of utilizing the extra processing power through the Task Parallel Library (TPL). We would like to implement some code analysis as well to track that maintanability at least not getting worse. The user command is used in this format: command -parameter For example, the app can have "Copy", "Paste", "Delete" command I am thinking the program should work like this : public static void main(String args[]){ if(args[0].equalsIgnoreCase("COPY")){ //handle the copy command } else if(args[0].equalsIgnoreCase("PASTE")){ //handle the copy command }/** code skipped **/ } So, it works, but I think it will become more and more complex when I have more command in my program, also, it is different to read.   • No cache and Google AdSense performance

    I'm developing a page where I need to avoid JavaScript caching by browser. I've added this header: <?php header('Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate'); header('Pragma: no-cache'); header('Expires: 0'); ?> After this, browsers didn't cache more JavaScript sorting out the issue, but in the same time I noticed a drop in Google AdSense RPM. Then I removed the added code and now Google AdSense RPM is reaching again a good value. So, how could I avoid JavaScript caching without meddle with AdSense performance?

  • Adding images into source code

    Is there a way (or an editor) that allows me to link an image/files/http links from within a source file (*.java for instance), sort of like a rich text document ? This way, while reading the code I can quickly look at the appended image (augmenting the comments), instead of opening the browser etc.
